This place is definitely racist. Bouncer’s very condescending, and told me I couldn’t get in because of my shoes (Jordans) Just like most black folks on here with a review. We wear Jordans… They know that. Sad they use that as the reason, when it’s obvious they just don’t want black people in there. Every white person in there had on some sort of sneaker and they didn’t have a problem with it. Something needs to be done about this… Run your business how you want but when it’s shut down, know exactly why. You suck… Exactly like racism. Count your days. Hate never wins

My favorite spot of the places my family and I went to downtown. It was a little slower and I was able to hold a conversation without the music drowning me out. Definitely a fun little environment that's not going overboard. Not shoulder to shoulder and not terribly loud. Great views a nice staff.

Who ever are the owners of not just this bar but other bars in midtown that won’t let you in because of dress code they should of known better that here in Houston we wear Jordan sneakers. Don’t know why it’s such a big deal, it’s just a bar. Who cares how people dress. Just putting this out there it’s ridiculous to have such a unnecessary policy of denying customers because of their shoes. There’s plenty of other places way better then those bars in midtown combined. Midtown is not recommended.

Visited 12/10/22 just before midnight as this was one of the stops on our SantaCon 2022 Pub crawl route. Attempted to get in through the Bagby entrance but the the white guy with the beard denied my entry because I was wearing red Timbalnd boots, which was part of my outfit. I was with about 50 plus people dressed in Santa Outfits, holiday wear, and so on. I've always heard the stories in midtown about profiling and for that reason I always chose to stay away. But this was an organized event, the bars knew we were coming and nowhere on their website was there any reference to dress code. Anyhow my friends said try the other entrance on McIlhenny street which we did and guess what? The guy there let me in with no problem. I honestly did not want to be there after the first impression from the guy at the first entrance but our time there was short. The bar staff was great, the crowd was diverse and I did notice casual wear throughout the venue from athletic apparel to sneakers of all walks, boots and so on. I won't say this establishment is racist because of one person's opinion about my dress attire, because that is a blanket statement and from what I could see this was not the case. However I would recommend more training for the staff that work the doors, that way everyone is on the same page and there is a level of consistency when operating for business. And most importantly, if you are going to have discrepancies in dress code, address it on your website please. That way everyone is aware beforehand what to expect when visiting your establishment. Will I be back? Probably not.

It's a great midtown bar with good food and music. I came here to hear JB sing and enjoy tostada night. A few whiskey and sodas outside in midtown are not a bad way to spend the evening. The upstairs area is very neat. It was closed on a Tuesday, which makes sense if it's not busy enough to pull double staff and floors. If you're in the area or reasonably close by, The Dogwood is a must visit. I keep seeing these people with less than 5 reviews claiming they were profiled, I haven't seen anything like that. We have black and hispanics in our party regularly and never caught even a whiff of attitude. I'm guessing some folks acted foolishly, got called out and don't like it.

This was a neat classy bar in midtown. First time going, I liked the easthetic, music was not loud and the rooftop has a great view to the Houston Skyline. Not crowded when I visited on a Friday. Service was fast and they got a good selection of beers. Limited parking like pretty much anything in the area.

DO NOT GO! If I could give 0 stars I would. The sorry excuse for a bar has a “no Jordan’s” (referring to the popular shoe brand among African-Americans) policy. Incredibly racist and despicable. I will be filing a civil suit with the state to refute this racist policy and I encourage anyone who is committed to civil justice to boycott this embarrassment and stain on the city of Houston.

I regret to give even 1 star! About 10 friends and I visited this bar. To my disbelief the this place is unapologetically rude and racist. I saw people of color get kicked out. A friend in my group got kicked out. I ordered drinks for my friends and I and as I’m waiting at the bar neither the female or male bartender said anything. Literally over looked us until there was no one else to serve. Just looked at me not a single word when I ordered my drink. As I am waiting on the drinks I was talking with my friends, when the drinks were ready the bartender first words were “you need to hurry up and give me your card, I have people to serve” I was absolutely astonished at how rude he was. I informed him that I will not be accepting the drinks from him. He threw the drinks out called the security to have us put out. The female bartender was so damn nasty. As we were walking away she swatted at us! Absolutely disgusting racist people!

This place was bad and I'm only going to give it a 2 is because the "street tacos" weren't half bad. The service absolutely horrendous. Tried getting the bartender attention to get a drink even though he mad eye contact on several occasion and being right by the register. Kept getting ignored and he serviced other customers who walked right up next to me first.

This place has incredibly racist policies in regards to dress code. My friend got turned away for wearing very fashionable and stylish adidas track pants at this OUTDOOR, PATIO bar. This is not some indoor, high-class club where everyone is in suits and ties. I legit will never be coming back here. Meanwhile, there were men in flip flops and shorts here...

Absolutely ridiculous, would not allow me in due to wearing “sweats”. I was wearing patterned regular shorts. Friend was let in wearing the EXACT SAME PAIR of shorts. Have also worn what I am wearing here before too. Also, when waiting on my friends to gather and leave from the place was told that I was blocking the exit ramp. The ramp in question is 5’ long. 0/5 stars if possible, take your business elsewhere.

I had an excellent time here at this facility. Ronnie the bartender had excellent hospitality and he made sure to follow up with us throughout the night. He definitely made a lot of tip money off of me and my friends, but I will be honest and say each penny was well worth spent. Excellent work brother.

Racism is real here. We watched people walk through the door without being ID'd, not to mention that the website doesn't indicate that there is an age policy. My party was absolutely of age and black and Hispanic. Well dressed and despite being well over the age to enter we were turned away and told to go up the block to On the Kirb where we could be served. When I mentioned the others not being id'd I was told they were older than me and he knew them. I'm in my 40's mind you. I was checking the place out to potentially have a birthday party. I absolutely will not be returning and I'm disgusted at the treatment to say the least.

I ordered 3 Crown and Sprites. The upstairs male Bartender poured 3 but 1 of the drinks was visibly lighter in color that other 2. I suspect less Crown. I pleasantly asked bartender to splash the glass that was less filled because it looked lighter in color. Bartender had negative attitude, questioned if I tasted drinks, and claimed he poured well... So Well, with that much attitude, we won't go back!!! There's too many other places that appreciate one's business - avoid these guys like the plague!

This place is straight up racist. Bouncer let like three girls in uggs in ahead of me and one guy with cowboy boots but found an excuse to not let me in saying my shoes were “too urban” cause they are timbs. Tonight us Halloween and it’s part of my costume. So, cause black men wear timbs in music videos this bar specifically disallows it. Go here and you support racist ways in my opinion. Silence is all evil needs to prevail.

I love going here with my friends when we go out for the weekend. The atmosphere is always great and the people here actually like to dance and have a good time. The drinks are good and you’re bound to make some new friends either upstairs or downstairs. The music is great and you get a variety of so many different genres.

Very solid bar. Great location in Midtown with a nice view of the city from the second story deck. Drinks are decent and the bartenders are nice. Always worth a stop!

Racist place. They're kicking people out, while their friends are at the bar and simply looking for the restroom. Like they obviously don't want business if your skin tone doesn't match what they're looking for. I'm sure not all the employees are bad but the lady managing that night was awful she knows how to run a business to the ground

My husband asked for Crown and it wasn’t Crown. My husband is an avid Crown drinker and can tell the difference and the bartender said I was attacking her when we questioned her. When ordering you better ask for a beer, that’s probably the only thing they can’t falsify.

0 Stars* My husband got turned down from entering the establishment because his kicks were not up to their standards. I do feel that they were racially profiling us as we're Hispanic.

It’s always a fun time at Dog Wood! Especially when I bring my dog. Love that this is a Dog friendly bar. Love that Houston offers places like this, unlike NY.

It’s been over a year and I still can’t get over the traumatic experience I had here. Please be aware of your surroundings and be careful with your drinks, including those handed by the BARTENDERS themselves. Can’t trust anyone now a days, including employees. Be aware and be safe. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I’ve never stepped foot in here ever since and I never will again.

It does look like a pretty cool place to hang out and when I went there for a social event, I found that this place was not to my liking at all. The music was way too loud, making conversations difficult with people and I could see that others were having a hard time talking to each other. It took forever to get my beer after ordering one from a waitress, since the bartenders were swamped with people asking/waiting for their drinks. And the place got pretty crowded to the point where you had to navigate through a bunch of people if you needed to go to the restroom or another spot at this place. After finishing my beer, I decided it was time to go. I never went back, and I won't be back.

We ordered three beers, bartender took our order quickly and efficiently. There was one issue that can be concerning I believe they are over serving alcohol to their customers. I had to go to the ladies room and it was extremely crowded like many bars, so I politely was trying to squeeze thru to make it to the back. Of course there maybe some minor pushing and shoving but if you see someone is trying to get thru and ask politely then all you have to do is let them go thru. Well in this case a girl bumped into me (which she told me sorry) which I then bumped into a group of extremely intoxicated men and they immediately turned around and started running their mouth. Any other day I would argue back but not with someone who is heavily intoxicated. Yes, I told them sorry but they didn’t care. They were acting as if I owned them an apology for for an accident that could have not been prevented because it was so crowded. Or maybe they shouldn’t have people hang out at the bar. A few minutes before we headed out another group tried to make their way to the bar and the heavily intoxicated group tried to fight them. This all happened on the first floor in front of security (which they did not seemed bothered) and the group was also standing in front of the bar. My advice to this bar stop serving alcohol to customers who are already intoxicated. It is best to loose a customer or two then allowing them to leave intoxicated and putting themselves or others in danger. This place can be shut down and everyone loose their jobs/license over something that could have been prevented. Yes, I can tell the difference when someone needs to be cut off and when someone is just dumb/silly drunk. Other than that the bar was nice (less people upstairs & believe restrooms too) and volume of music did not bother me so maybe I’ll give them another chance.

Imagine getting upset over a short glass request as a bartender lol. I'd probably get a new job. Poor her, she had to repour my drink into a short glass. Hard day in the office it seems. Tipped her out of pitty. Not going back Next time you try to talk bad about a customer, dont make it so obvious and wait till I'm gone.

Good spot to kickoff bar hopping in the area. Usually pretty spacious and not shoulder to shoulder with people. Even better that it has a decent patio area for fresh air. Prices are reasonable ($9-11) for mixed tequila drinks.

Love the Dogwood. Plenty of standing / sitting space even on busy nights. The vibe is a typical midtown bar scene. Plenty of bathrooms on both floors. Food is pretty good too during the day. Bartenders are very nice.

They don’t even deserve 1 star. DON’T GO HERE! they have SOOO many complaints about being racist and it’s for a reason! the bar manager that acts like she owns the bar, is a disgusting human being. She treated me so badly and called me the N word with the hard R at the end! all because I was stating how rude her bartenders were being to us. I was so taken back. I actually couldn’t believe this place is ran by such an evil person.
