Nope, never again! Food was bland! Dressing resembled cat food. No spices, onion, bell peppers, meat, nothing! Just a brownish colored clump of nothing. Candied yams looked and tasted like they came straight out of a can. Fried fish was fried, dyed and laid to the side (light pink in some spots on the inside 🤮). Cabbage was way undercooked and tasteless. My doberman caught the cornbread muffin in mid-air as I threw it his way (He's still playing with it as we speak. The peach cobbler... well... just pray for it 🤦🏾‍♀ "This Is It" use to be the #1 soul food spot back in the day, not sure what happened, but "this ain't it" today! 🥺😕😢

THIS IS NOT IT!! FULL VIDEO ON TIKTOK @ms. ckeyes2 I ordered two dinners. Oxtails - Chicken 3 sides each: Beans, Baked Mac n Cheese, Yams, Cabbage, Mashed potatoes. I ordered soul food so my Korean friend could taste the culture. Well aren't I embarrassed 😳 The oxtails cooked to death with the taste and consistency of overcooked pot roast The chicken was meh, however he rest of the food was such a disappointment that it didn't take much to be better There is a difference in taste as well as consistency in homemade potatoes and instant, these were instant potatoes. The Mac n cheese were billed as baked Mac n cheese, wasn't baked, barely any cheese, runny. I'd have to add cheese for this to be almost as good as Velveeta Mac n cheese. The cabbages were sweet and not soft, suppose they threw caution to the wind, threw them in a pot with a little sugar. Won't even bother to eat the dessert. $71.20 & tip for me to trash this.

I heard amazing things about this restaurant, so I decided to try it for myself. However I am greatly disappointed. The the baked macaroni and cheese was just boiled noodles there was NO cheese and this is the most pathetic excuse for peach cobbler that I have ever seen. They’re so cheap they use dollar store fruit cups not even canned peaches this is the sorriest dessert I have ever had they NEED TO TAKE PEACH COBBLER OFF THE MENU! Don’t bother with the sweet potato pie either, it’s not as horrible as the cobbler but it has no flavor. I guess the ran out of Nutmeg and cinnamon. 🤦🏾‍♀️ I gave them 2 stars because the yams were decent and the catfish was seasoned well. Anyway if your from anywhere in the South outside of TEXAS ie: Louisiana, Georgia or Mississippi PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY at this establishment. I guarantee you will be sorely disappointed.

This restaurant was on my list of places to visit... and I wasn't disappointed. The line was long upon entering the restaurant but the team worked fast to fill orders and take care of the customers. Everything looked so good and tasted even better! Put this spot on your list too!

Food was decent - Loved the yams, but didn't get excited over the cabbage. Fried chicken was decent but one of my pieces was really over cooked. The server was kind enough to give me a replacement piece plus one! My cocktail - a strawberry margarita (in styrofoam cup) was great. The tea cakes were very good (full of flavor & my favorite item of the day! Make sure your food is hot when you make your request cos some of mine was cold by the time I sat down to eat.

Zero stars if I could. I ordered beef tips today and I received 90% fat. The Mac and cheese has no flavor and is watery. Disgusting. If you are from South Louisiana, like myself. Save yourself the trouble. This isn’t soul food, it’s more diner food.

Friendly customer service. Great food. The "Ride for Freedom" bike riders at Tom Bass went here after our bike ride for lunch. The employees were very accommodating and give us a private room. I had the Friday special of fried catfish with 2 veggies for $10. Great bargain for a yummy meal and great customer service.

Was in town visiting my daughters & we came here. I’ve always said if you go to a restaurant & you can walk straight to the counter meaning there’s no line, LEAVE! I should’ve followed my own advice but I was trying to support black businesses. The food was just as nasty as the customer service. I ended up some roughly $150 just for my family & I not to like ANYTHING & have to go somewhere else. I had the ox tails for $30 & got nothing but bones & gravy. The macaroni was bland. The yams tasted like they came out a can. 1 daughter had ribs & they were thick & tough. I could go on & on but I’ll just say this save your money & go somewhere else or cook at home

This was my first visit. I was really wanting some home-cooked food or like home cooked food so we decided to try. I was pleasantly surprised to learn of the restaurants history. While we were in line selecting our sides, the older lady waiting behind us told us the yams were delicious. Personally I don't care for any candied yams in general but my husband did try them and liked them. I had the smothered chicken with gravy. When eating out I generally do not order a lot of starches, which is just my preference so for my sides I chose pinto beans, string beans and cabbage. They were all seasoned well yet not salty. I enjoyed my meal and will definitely try them again.

We came with friends after church. There is no service. None. The best service we had was from the older gentleman busing tables. Folks behind the counter wouldn’t look at us or speak, the young lady behind the register said “what you want” when we asked for dessert and rolled her eyes the entire transaction. I mean HORRIBLE attitude for absolutely no reason, even when we tried to joke with her to make her smile - despite the service she was giving. We thrive on giving others grace, but this just made no sense. All while gospel was playing in the background. Took the top off my dessert and let me just say - never in my life have I had peach cobbler soup, but that’s exactly what I got. Water, with sparse soggy breading and canned peaches (that’s probably why there was so much water in it). It’s nice that rice and bread are included with all meals and then you get two additional sides but the dressing was gritty and salty, black eyed peas unseasoned. Cabbage was tasty. Fish was crispy, but lacked seasoning. And we paid $70 for two people. I hate to put down a black establishment, but the service on top of everything just made for a bad experience. Maybe only regulars get good service, which is unfortunate because we could have become exactly that.

The food was decent...I've had better, but the staff was friendly and attentive. This place just had a nice down home vibe. My husband and my friend had the oxtails and said they were good, but needed to cook a little longer for that fallin-off -the-bone-affect.

If you like being served like your in elementary school lunch line, then this is the place to be! The food didn't have flavor or enough seasoniong. It looks better than it taste. If you can't have/eat alot of seasonings, this is the place for you!

Houston’s This Is It soul food restaurant located in the shadows of Texas? Southern University is a staple of the community for more than 60 years. I must admit. I’ve been enjoying the delicious meals for 40 of those 60 years. What I can say is the quality of the food in terms of selection, seasoning, freshness, and portions haven’t changed that entire time. in recent years, they added a daiquiri machine and maybe a television but for the most part in their current location you can still select ox tails, turkey,l wings, fried fish, collards, mac & cheese, black eyed peas, etc. has maintain a level of quality for a very long time. I might add that I feel people of all ethnicities and all races could come here enjoy a meal and I feel very comfortable going in and out of the restaurant and in the restaurant itself.

Grabbed takeout it was good soul food in Houston. Service was quick and it wasn't busy but I went when it was pouring outside. Lots of parking and friendly staff.

These meals deserve no stars at all. Not only was the gravy the wrong color, the food was not seasoned. Pork chops were okay. Sweet potatoes were flavorless. Cornbread was okay. The chicken gravy was, undercooked, like flour and water was mixed but not heated to the correct color / temp.

We went for soul food and that is exactly what we got! Everything was on point except the cornbread was not sweet enough for us. We went right when they opened and the food was fresh and delicious. Definitely recommend and I would go back.

Omg I'm so full that was so delicious 🤤 I ordered the smothered chicken plate which comes with 3 sides I got cabbage candied yams and Mac and cheese . The portions were very generous the only thing I regret getting what a piece of white meat as one of the 3 pieces, it was not anything compared to the dark meat which was juicy and full of flavor I also got the banana pudding but I wasn't a fan it was a little two watery for my liking but I would definitely eat here again and probably just get a different dessert there's so many to choose from so I do not feel like that was any points lost on their part. All in all I give them five stars because the food was very flavorful all the way through The portions were so big me and my son both at off a plate and we did not even finish it and on a big girl so I can eat lol but it is worth the eat and the prices is not bad at all

I frequent the Humble location of " This Is It Soulfood Restaurant" and i need to tell you about this Shining Star of Restaurants located in the Little H (Humble TX). The edifice itself is super clean and all the food is great! Smothered chicken , fried chicken , smothered pork chops , fried catfish candy yams that taste like sweet potato pie, gravy just like it should be and so much more on the menu! Generous portions!!!!! Not the place to go if you,re on a diet. I stand behind this post. Tell Thad Wesley " that Rick " The Golden Voice " Godfrey , the stadium Voice of the Prairie View A& M University Panthers sent you!

Googled soul food, they came up! Glad I had this experience. Made me feel back at home! Best sides are green beans, sweet potato’s, mashed potatoes & gravy. I had the smothered pork chops and they were excellent. I wasn’t too fond over the corn bread, cabbage, or stuffing, but that’s just me. My bf loved the Mac and cheese and the ox tails. So.... Definitely worth trying for yourself. It was two of us and we spent $50. But it definitely worth it. Great atmosphere. Definitely a vibe for lunch or dinner.

The oxtail plate is certainly not worth 30 dollars, though it had a decent flavor. They were pretty skimpy on the gravy too. Mac and cheese was good and I was grateful the cabbage and greens were without pork. Service was hood at best. 60 dollars for 2 plates

The restaurant had a line which made me believe the food was great since I was visiting from AZ. All I can say is the sides were GREAT! My smothered pork chops were formidable, like they hadn't had time two simmer in the gravy, but the flavor was good. The portion size wasn't big as I expected since the customers before me had huge portions. The lady who fixed my plate wasn't friendly; she acted like I was a problem when I greeted her. Not only didn't she reply to my hello, but she also had a mean look on her face. Once I got to the register, the gentleman was friendly and polite. The older gentleman, who appeared to be the owner, smiled and greeted me as they sat at the table in the restaurant, which helped ease the frustration of the server and my small portion size. I would return and try something else.

This was by far the worst food I’ve ever ate. Traveling from Louisiana and we wanted some soul food, well this was NOT the place for it. I bought 3 plates and 3 drinks worth $65 and we all wanted to throw our entire plate in the trash. Run down on the food we had Cabbage was still crunchy and spicy and I love spice I’m from Louisiana but this wasn’t a good spice it was so spicy you could even taste the cabbage, the same with the mixed vegetables. The fried catfish wasn’t seasoned at all, the tartar sauce came in a squeeze package and the prayers tasted like they came straight from a box just add water. My sister had rice and gravy which had no flavor and the rice was hard, hamburger steak that was so well done it was dry and the spicy cabbage with spicy pinto beans. My friend had the spicy cabbage also, yams had to be from a can, no nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla extract nothing, and fried chicken that was flavorless just chicken. The large cup of kook aid tasted like watered down soda, the only thing that I can say was good was the 2 mini pieces of bread we got.. I could’ve went to Taco Bell and had a better meal, that say allot. Again This is Not It, if you want some decent soul food, we’ll just did period

A bit on the pricey side but It was good. Wasn’t a fan of the Mac cheese but the green beans are the bomb. It’s was the best thing on my plate 🤤 my daughter had smoother chicken. That was good too.

If you leave hungry it is your fault 😅 Different menu each day. Food was wonderful...You pick 3 sides and one main dish. I had candied yams, green bean mixed vegetables and cooked cabbage. Had a bite of my husband's mac and cheese which was delicious. Our main courses were smothered chicken and fried fish. Took half of mine home to enjoy later. Wished I had seen their college special because you really do get a lot of food. Super super service 🤗

Great value and huge portions. The oxtails were well done and we're so meaty , the yams weren't too sweet . The cabbage was okay. The pork chops werent tough at all and the gravy was delicious. I could literally put it on everything. We ended up here because the breakfast klub line was bananas

I'll give 3 star because the food was good and tastefu and had it doordashed. I'm from Mississippi but live in TexasI had the Turkey Wings meals, with sides of Black Eyed Beans, Sweet Potatoes and Greens. The presentation of the meal was not impressive. You have slots for 2 sides but the beans should've been in a separate container. I also order the peach cobbler and I would rate it 2 star. It has the taste but the crust was extremely soft like dough and it was watery.
