Located
within
a
congregation
of
apartment
complexes
and
surrounded
by
black
iron
gates
sits
one
of
the
most
unHousual
museums
in
Houston.
The
National
Museum
of
Funeral
History,
or
NMFH,
takes
a
detailed
look
at
the
funeral
customs
of
the
present
and
past
from
all
around
the
world.
You
can
take
a
detailed
stroll
through
the
faux-marble
halls
of
the
"Vatican"
detailing
the
internment
of
a
Pope,
then
pivot
to
the
process
of
cremation,
and
finish
your
visit
off
glancing
through
the
methods
loved
ones
used
to
say
goodbye
to
some
of
the
brightest
stars.The
museum
sprawls
across
35,000
square
feet
and
is
packed
with
detailed
exhibits
and,
most
extensively,
glorious
antique
methods
of
transporting
the
dead.
The
inarguable
star
of
the
museum
is
the
enormous
collection
of
hearses,
both
motorized
and
horse-drawn,
but
there
is
so
much
to
peruse
through.
One
of
my
personal
favorites
was
the
exhibit
on
Ghanian
artistic
coffins,
though
the
ornamental
Japanese
hearse
was
a
close
second
favorite.
NMFH
costs
only
$10
for
adult
entry
and
is
most
certainly
worth
every
cent.
There
is
at
least
3
hours
worth
of
displays
to
wonder
through,
so
plan
to
spend
a
good
while
within
this
winding
and
wonderful
building.
