Sam Houston Statue & Visitor Center

Tourist attraction Historical landmark Visitor center

👍👍 A neat little spot for a dose of Americana. It's a good photo opportunity, and the grounds are pretty cool to stroll through. There is plenty of seating and things to look over. A good leg stretch if you're heading through Huntsville. People often mention Houston, stop, statue, center, information, shop, area, cool, history, time,

Wow, talk about an awesome staff! When we pulled in a lady actually walked outside just to greet us and say hello! Talk about a nice, clean, and friendly environment! Everything was well kept, walkways we're all perfect, picnic areas were immaculate, and all the information markers looked brand new. I had no idea how big the statue really was until I stood in front of it. I'm glad my Familiar suggested we should go check this place out. The little amphitheater was dope. There is this gigantic head of Sam Houston there so picture opportunities are endless lol. If you're looking for a little spot to stop and chill, maybe have a little picnic, you should for sure park your self here for a little while and check it out. Lots of info available about the area and surrounding parks along with a knowledge staff that is more than willing to help. A+ for sure!

This is pretty fantastic really Houston is the fourth largest city in America and the Huntsville area kind of marks the beginning of its very large metro!!! Sam Houston was a General a soldier a governor a leader amongst men and has left a lot of history for all of us to learn to say the least!!!! Just to put it into perspective this thing is almost as large as the Statue of Liberty at 77 feet it stands!!! Beautifully i must say!!! There's a wonderful Visitor Center that begins your visit that have people that are more than willing to help you with the history and your visit!! I highly recommend grabbing something from the gift shop and 100% make this a must-visit if you're anywhere in the Houston area!!! And of course it's 100% free!!!

Towering over the surrounding area at 67 feet tall, this is an impressive landmark! Public restrooms, along with a small museum and gift shop. Nice break spot with well maintained trails, picnic tables and shade. Even on a hot day the shade keeps the temp bearable. Lots of interesting plaques and information around the visitors center and the statue. Dropped by on a road trip, which was a fun way to break up the drive.

It's worth a stop, and more impressive in-person than driving by. The visitor center was still closed the morning we were there, so it'd probably be better during business hours. Still a nice place to walk around.

This place is a must see! Oh and their restrooms are very clean. Their gifshop sells a lot of cute souvenirs and everything Huntsville. Oh, and they sell ice cream too! Come and visit this place. You won't regret it!

Pretty cool and super clean! It’s such a cute and quick little pit stop after you get out of the craziness of Houston. They also had ice cream which was perfect for my kids and lots of cute souvenirs and locally made things that were honestly not that expensive!

My 9 year old grandson was working on a major grade and he was given Sam Houston. We went to the statue to gather information. The Young ladies that were working were so helpful. He got enough info on Old Sam to score a 105 on his project! Way to go!!

Mr. Sam Houston was the first President in Texas. His large statue has been found in Houston. It is a wonderful place to visit.

I'm rarely up this way, but me and my son decided that we'd swing in to have a look. It is very much a stop in friendly kind of place. I had absolutely no issue finding the place and parking with absolutely no prior planning. The monument is massive and impressive. The grass needs love and they're renovating the building near by, but that didn't take away from the awe factor at all. It was a good time and a good random memory. I'll definitely stop in with the family in the future.

Super cute area and visitor's center. It was dark when we visited, so we didn't get an opportunity to go inside. Very cool to see in person though! We will come back by during open hours next time to check out the shop and interpretive center.

It’s free to go in and has a cute little gift shop. The statue is impressive. And there are some nice walking trails to stretch your legs

Looking for a place to stretch out and learn a little on your travels? Catch some shade under the nature trails while you're there too. It's just a nice place to walk around if you're on your way through. You might even meet a furry friend!

Great piece of history. Land is well maintained. Statue is seen from the road but it's a wonderful experience to see it close. The entire park is very peaceful.

We pass the Sam Houston Statue all the time we travel up and down I45 but never realized there was a visitor center directly behind the statue nestled in a nice wooded area. The visitor center was closed for lunch but we were able to walk thru the center and follow the trail to the front of the statue. There is plenty of parking at the visitor center as well. There are a few signs along the trail with interesting information about the statue and brochures to take to read. We highly recommend this place to visit.

A spontaneous stop off that was well worth the time and experience. With a short little walk from the gift shop and information building, that contains a few artifacts of Sam Houston's, you will find a trail of donator names etched into brick leading you to an incredible display of artistry. The artist, even added Houston's wedding band. The staff is well versed in Sam Houston's life and the history surrounding him. They will direct you to other places to obtain more information and see more sites. *Ask about the 'Big Sam's Honor Club. Plenty of spots for a picnic under the shades of trees, and activities like playing the games on the porch, enjoy the company of Boghi the cat or enjoy scavenger hunts and color sheets. There are vending machines on spot and restrooms. Jams and ice creams for sale inside, novelty items and This great for a stop off on a trip or day drive.

Great stop. When we see Houston walking out of the woods, we know we are home.

Sweet Jesus, that was a lot of mosquitoes. We hadn't been in the trail to the statue for 2 minutes and I had been bit at least 14 times. Still, it's super cool to get a picture with the face and the rest of the statue.

First time traveling to Houston, it was mandatory to stop! Such a cool place with so much history! I grabbed one of the magazines they’ve got out that tell little bits of history as well as what else is in the area. If you’ve got a minute, definitely stop and take a look. Really clean bathrooms as well!

Have driven past BIG Sam many times. This ti.e we stopped. It was cool to see up close, but even cooler was the information in the actual center. There is a gift shop too, but we not have time... Maybe next time. PS. Definitely worth a stop.
