When I booked this hotel, I thought this was going to be one of the nicest I ever stayed at. I should have read the reviews. The REAL reviews. I'm trying to figure out how they are considered a 4 star hotel, with limited staff, poor service, molding rooms with little to no air working, peeling tubs, and moisture filled air ducts. When you arrive, you see lots of nice cars and assume, "oh it must be the place to be". WRONG. there was one person working the counter as my husband and I stood waiting for almost 10 minutes for the woman to finish chatting. They charge $100 per night for incidentals and I don't know why. The bellhop escorted us to our room and immediately you could smell the mold and feel the moisture in the room. I don't think I have ever been so disappointed. After looking over the room and moved to the bath room which is only partially renovated, I went to the front counter for a refund. As I spoke to the person at the counter. I informed them that not only were we wanting our money back but we had 4 other rooms being checked into and they also weren't staying. You know you have issues at your hotel when you are giving away $100 hotel credits to keep guest at your establishment. The staff didn't even flinch when I complained because sadly they hear this everyday. The parking garage is so nasty and smells like urine. The first 5 floors are reserved for valet, however they were only ever 20 cars valeted at any point. We ended up staying simply because one of our friends booked through a third party and could not get a refund. They had issues with the HVAC in their rooms and were moved several times. On top of all that, the keys to the old rooms were never deactivated. Clearly no stays here and they shouldn't. Please read reviews before booking your hotels. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. Oh and when you are looking online and don't see anything but the bath sinks, it's because the tubs are filthy!

This hotel is horrendous. Do not book this hotel if you’re looking for a luxury stay. The pictures they post are CATFISH. They had baby roaches in the bathroom, the ceiling had that old nasty popcorn look. The bathtub looked like it’s barely cleaned! We were scared to even sleep here. I’d give this place 0 stars if I could. We spent $350 just for a motel 6 basically. Matter of fact, I’ve been to motel 6s cleaner and nicer than this hotel.

This place is advertised as a luxurious and chic hotel, however I have stayed at cheaper hotels that are far nicer than this! All around we were incredibly disappointed in this hotel and would never stay there again! Upon arrival we were told to park anywhere on the parking garage and it would be fine, we park and we were not told that we would have to pay for parking…then upon entering our room, it was humid, the toilet water was running and restroom mirror had mold stains around the wall area… the ceiling has water damage as there were stains… I sat on the bed and it was super uncomfortable the pillows were as if they were filled with sheets… I felt something on my arm at night and when I looked it was a lash strip from a previous persons stay!!! So disappointed and disgusted at how unkept the rooms are for what is being advertised. They also are not transparent about fees until check in… why would I have to pay 17.98 a day for pool service, gym and food??? That should come complimentary with what I PAID when I booked the stay. I spent over $500 at this hotel for only a 2 night stay… I wouldn’t have cared to pay that much if what was pictured was actually what I experienced! You definitely don’t get what you pay for at this place. I would not recommend this hotel at all!

I was thrilled to have booked my room after hearing countless raving reviews and reading that they have exceptional cleaning services. Entering this establishment had me and my s/o excited for our stay. It seems like a lavish hotel in the middle of River Oaks! Entering our room was disappointing. Immediately the room smelled and all the air vents were filthy and moldy. The couch in the bedroom looked filthy with stains. The restroom had terrible water pressure and requires renovation. The shower/tub combo had the faucet separating from the wall. The shower head was also coming loose from the wall. The plumbers tape and caulking was completely exposed. The worst was the towels. I couldn't even tell my s/o about the towel I saw. It was as if someone sewed in human hair into it. The valet service is slow due to limited staff ( I'm assuming). The staff is nice but, the stay was disappointing. For what I paid, I would have preferred to stay at a Hamptons Inn.

The pictures are deceiving. There was only one pool table and the chalk for it looked like flour. The bar did not have an assortment of choices ( sweeter drinks, etc). The pool was not at all what the pictures looked like. The pillows were super flat and not fluffed. There was an odd hole in our bathroom ceiling that made us feel uncomfortable so we put a tissue in it. The wait for clean linens and toilet paper was too long. I shouldn’t have to call more than once, twice, or thrice. We were unaware that electric vehicle charging was free and we paid for it. I needed to charge the electric vehicle and the maintenance denied me access after I express that I was a guest. It was not until I went to the front desk and talked to the clerk who granted me access. She was the best part of the entire experience. The location was the best part of the stay. And despite the flat and unfluffed pillows, the bed was comfortable. Overrated, but in a good central area.

Though pictures online make this hotel appear cute and chic, it was anything hut. As you walk in, it is very dark. The rooms are clearly old but they try to cover it up with bright colors like orange fabric. The shower is horrible, with the faucet very loose and a very small rainshower head. Oh, you don't have a door for the bathroom. I shared the room with a friend but privacy is important. Instead if a door, it's a sliding door on a track but it's not flush with the wall. We could totally see the shower when each of us was in there. So cheap. And there are only sheer curtains with no blackout behind it to keep the blinding daylight out when morning comes. We had a drink in the bar and the bar was not air conditioned. It felt very warm. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel. Stay elsewhere.

This is my first review ever! The staff is super friendly and nice. The room was so terrible. I’m so afraid to touch anything at this hotel. I’m sure Alexander the Great stayed at this old and outdated hotel. My apologies I mean motel. Wait Motel 6 is actually cheaper and nicer. So many bad reviews the hotel establishment not even commenting. If I could stand at the door and catch my round with the owner I would feel much better. This hotel is so hyped up for no reason at all. This hotel feel like the movie 1408. There are examples of things I grew in my Petri dish when I was in middle in the restroom. I’m sure rats from the black plagued ran through here passing viruses and what not. I’m going to sleep angry because it’s midnight and I already paid. I have no idea how this hotel is open. Please look at my photos. These photos don’t do any Justice!

This hotel is very outdated and rooms feel dirty. It should be significantly cheaper than all other options in the area, and even then I’d rather look farther out rather than stay here. Won’t be returning. After turning on the shower and realizing there was a ball of hair, I walked out of the room and down the street to the Holiday Inn Express (which was cheaper! And had better service!), never to return to Hotel Derek.

Horrible! If I could rate zero stars I would. Rooms are so dated, stink, not cleaned, thrown beer sticky on walls. Fingerprints on walls. Molded vents. AC barely works. I wish I would have read the reviews... Dumb me! Don't make my mistake!!

I booked this hotel, this past weekend for a staycation. I googled top 10 hotels in Houston and Hotel Derek was one of them. Due to it being close to a restaurant I wanted to try, I figured this would be a great hotel to stay at. To say I was WRONG, would be an understatement!!! I booked a balcony view suite that was suppose to give a skyline view of downtown. When I was told my room was on the third floor, I was a bit confused but I went with it. Sure enough when I arrived to my room, the view was a wall, the balcony door wouldn’t open, and the ice machine on the floor didn’t work. I was highly dissatisfied and went to talk to the front desk. I figured with this being one of the top 10 hotels in Houston, my needs would be met with no problem. WRONG again!! I was given a hard time by the manager and a back and fourth before I was moved to a different room on a higher floor. Although I was moved to a skyline view suite, I wasn’t given a refund of the difference due to it being cheaper than what I had originally booked. I tried to call the front desk to ask for extra towels and when I didn’t get a dial tone, I realized the phone wasn’t connected and the wires were exposed! The pool area was dirty and had broken glass all over the floor. Not sure why this hotel charges $100 for incidentals. Not to mention it was an incident right out front and police and caution tape were everywhere. You get a free drink at the bar with your stay, but of course the downstairs restaurant was closed! Highly disappointed with my stay! Would not recommend this establishment to ANYONE! If you’re looking for nice hotel to stay at, this is definitely not one of them! Not worth the price at all!

First time in Houston and we decide to stay here because of how hyped up this hotel was. We check in the gentleman in the front told us free parking. Another lady said no nothing is free around here. I still haven't received my receipt. As soon as I walked in I wanted to check out immediately. I couldn't do that due to my children already traveling 10 1/2 hrs on the road and I felt bad trying to find something late at night. The view was AMAZING. The layout of the room is TINY!! Mind you I read double beds as queen size beds, no they were full size. we barley fit on these beds! The restroom smelled like rust! The bath tub was peeling. I was on the 15 floor, no ice machine on any floor I was told to go to the restaurant and get some at 10:30 at night. The snack bar prices are RIDICULOUSLY HIGH! $5 for a sprite can that was very FLAT! A large water for $7! Also on the website I read breakfast at 8-11AM. We'll the restaurant is separate from the hotel so you have to pay for that separately!! The hallway and elevator smelt like straight up WEED, even though it states no smoking on the premises. The business center had NO COMPUTER/PRINTER nothing!! it was basically a empty room!! 1/10 rating, WOULD NOT RECOMMEND STAYING HERE!!!! Unless you want to feel scammed. :)

Went to celebrate our anniversary for the weekend. We payed for two nights. Once we checked in the conditions of the room were horrible. When we raised our initial concern they were willing to move us to another room. We grab our things and checked in to that room. The room was worse!! At that point we had to get our money back, they offered another room but couldn't guarantee the condition of it. Once again we were there to celebrate our Anniversary. This was a very disappointing experience.

I was very disappointed with this hotel level of cleanliness. I was suppose to have a great relaxing birthday stay, but I had to check out early due to the condition of my room. It felt unclean. The toilet had urine on it, the sofa had unclean scent and one of the towels that was hung up had a light make up smudge.. I dont think the room was cleaned properly. I brought Mt concerns to management, she sent someone to clean, but it was a sloppy job and he used no gloves touch the urine on the toilet then proceeded to clean with a towel which he never rinsed but wiped the next toilet with that same towel. The lamps were leaning, and the decor was dated. My original room and reservations was apparently lost when we arrived, so the manager was nice to offer me the" penthouse " suite for the inconvenience, but it was not clean to my standards so I was not impressed. The best thing was the balcony, view and space.. but this hotel is not it! Not at all 4 star quality from my experience. We called and confirmed everything to be perfect for my birthday including selecting champagne upon arrival, and the said we would be all set, but when I got there it wasn't anything set..and they said I have to get the champagne next day because the kitchen closed on Sunday, why wasn't that explain to us just the day before when my daughter called to verify everything.. I'm so disappointed. My husband and I got up early to check out, I could not bare to stay, I didn't feel comfortable all night. The lady at check out only deducted $60 for my inconvenience, but added most of it back in taxes so that wasn't much help, I waisted $319. Period. And I was not gonna stay the full time and waist more money on a hotel like this. It's very dark in lighting, gives the effect of hiding cleanliness or something.. they definitely need to upgrade the place, we heard this was a nice hotel which is why we booked but it wasn't to me. And for that to be the penthouse it wasn't nice enough.. you can even see extension cords hanging which is tacky. My birthday arrival and stay was nothing like I imagined. If you desire a clean , luxury hotel, please go somewhere else.

Do not book this hotel. The hotel room itself is very average nothing spectacular about it. The hotel staff was nice but not very resourceful. Let’s get into why I checked out early, there was more than 5 car break-ins between the hours of 4:00-5:30 p.m. the car parked next to mine was hit. I asked the desk clerk could we move our car and she stated yes but I would have to pay again, the hotel is not affiliated with the parking garage, Valet is not safe either there was a break-In with them also. I asked about checking out and I was told there was not a manager on duty. Needless to say that night was ruined because I literally walked out to check on my car all night. I asked the 2 ladies at the front desk does this happen often, they gave me the blank stare and responded they both were new. The next morning I spoke with the same lady and she talked to her manager and checked me out early. No apology and the GM never came out his office to address the issue. Trip ruined

The hotel lobby is modern, and the front desk was very friendly. I stayed in their King Suite, and the view was great. The Suite is clean but needs maintenance, like a coat of paint and a draining shower. The mattress and pillows should feel less like a board, and the thread count should be higher for linens for a good night's rest. That is my preference. The hotel bar is nothing fancy, with a basic menu. It may fulfill your needs if you don't want to leave the hotel. Overall, the hotel is in a great location, near fine dining and shopping in the Galleria, with easy access off of Westheimer. If you are looking for clean accommodations with reasonable prices, this may serve your purpose. This is the view from the King Suite.

Horrible!! Reserved for 2 adults. One wash rag in the bathroom. Shower head barely lets out water. Low water pressure. The knob constantly moves and the concrete that holds the tub knob is hanging on by a thread. Lamps are cracked and damaged. No ice on every floor. One bottle of complimentary water. For close to $200/night this was an upgraded motel 6 experience. Never staying here again. And it stinks like mold.

The hotel was not at all what we were expecting. we book a junior sweet king size bed jacuzzi tub and all according to the web site we booked through. There was no tub only a tiny shower and the room was about as plain as any motel 6 I've ever stayed in. And now I have a bunch of extra charges on my card several for 40 to 45 dollars and one for 168 dollars we called to find out what the deal was and were told that they would have accounting check into but nothing would be done at this time. This hotel was definitely not worth the money. We were expecting a nice place to stay for my wife's birthday and basically ended up getting robbed.dont waste your money people.

Don’t be fooled. All that glitters isn’t gold. I booked a stay here for my birthday and was sorely disappointed. Valet is spotty. I guess that depends on whether or not they have an employee that day. & You have to pay for parking, either way. They don’t offer room service, or any of the other amenities they advertise on their website. & Now over 60 days later, I still haven’t been refunded my incidental fees. Which for my stay should’ve been $100. BUT, instead they charged me an incidental fee for each night stayed. & They’re trying to blame my financial institution for the delay. I’ve called numerous times to no avail. I’m either rerouted or talk to someone who has no earthly idea what’s even going on. They said they have my account marked and that someone would get back to me. Yet, I’m still waiting. Houston has numerous different & amazing boutique hotels. Save your time & money. Go somewhere else, anywhere else!! Lesson learned, for sure!! I won’t ever stay here again nor will I recommend anyone else stay here. Absolutely awful!!

This hote a lot nicer online than it is in person. The quality definitely does not represent the price on my opinion. Self parking was $28…and you have to walk around the outside of the build along the Main Street to get to the hotel entrance with all your luggage. The pool was closed for maintenance the day we arrived (we came to spend time at pool specifically), so we asked the concierge if the hotel is accommodating people for the missing amenity, and she said no. We took our business elsewhere.

My usual choice, Hotel Derek, hasn't lived up to expectations lately. The rooms are disappointingly dirty with stains on the carpet, and the bathroom, particularly the floor, seems neglected and dusty. Despite acknowledging Houston's dust, a more frequent cleaning schedule would be appreciated. Additionally, I want to mention that when I checked in around 10 PM, the elevator in the parking garage was out of service. As a solo female traveler, using the stairs, whether going up or down, felt unsafe. It's crucial for elevators to be accessible, especially for solo travelers. Moreover, being charged for parking when the area is consistently dirty, and unsettling with elevators out of service is not ideal.

I did a staycation for my birthday and it was lovely experience. I booked with a 3rd party and they over booked the hotel and I could not get the room, I wanted. But the staff did above thier duty to extend a pleasant experience and have me a great deal to make up for my room. The location is near great restaurants and clubs. Very nice, I think I will do it again next year.

Before you finalize any booking, take a moment to visit ʜᴏᴛᴇʟᴅᴜʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏᴍ It turned my almost-expensive trip into a budget-friendly escape. I had the incredible opportunity to spend a week at Hotel Derek with my fiancé, and I must say it was an absolute delight. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the luxurious experience it offered. The outdoor pool was a refreshing oasis, perfect for relaxing and unwinding. The room service was impeccable, ensuring our every need was met with promptness and a smile. The attention to detail in every aspect of our stay was truly remarkable. Hotel Derek provided us with a week of pure indulgence and relaxation, making our time there absolutely unforgettable. Without a doubt, this is a five-star destination that exceeded all expectations.

This place is horrible! My wife and I went to stay here for our Anniversary and it was all a disaster! Valet swings your open almost before your car can stop and asks for your keys. The desk attendant lied about the room we paid for and requested and put us on a lower level. We were not happy but took it anyway. When we finally get to the room, we realized that the light didn’t work as well as the refrigerator! We also paid for a city view, not a CVS view. I could’ve saved my money if I wanted see people do donuts in a closed drugstore parking lot. Thi was a horrible experience! DONT GO HERE!!

I would never stay here again. The pictures on the website are very misleading. Upon check in the manager who stands in the middle had horrible customer service. She was rude and had a nasty attitude. Was quick to say someone else could help me check in. I had to switch rooms because the first room had an awful smell, there was writing on the wall, stains on the wall, stains on the thermostat, full handprints on the ottoman, the bed frame looked as if someone chewed the corner of it, there was a crack in the shower wall, stains on the carpet, and stains all around the tub. The second room was no better with a leaking tub, stains still on carpet, crumbs on the carpet on side the bed. They have the nerve to charge daily for valet and for general parking (never stayed somewhere you had to pay to park at) plus an amenity fee and a $200 deposit. It’s overrated and overpriced. The pool area had rusted fixtures. The valet was generous though to help us after our car had been broken into while we had dinner 10 minutes away. For the price the rooms should be kept up better than that to call it a deluxe room. Overall this hotel does not care about cleanliness and the upkeep of their rooms and that is disgusting. I am highly disappointed with this stay will never book again if I had the option I’d rate a zero.

I am truly distraught after my most recent experience here. Hotel Derek used to be my absolute favorite place to stay. In fact, I would sometimes book a night stay just to enjoy the atmosphere. I am sad to say that time has passed. For years, I have fondly remembered the wonderful scent of this hotel. I was appalled that when I arrived, it no longer had it's signature scent. Now, the hotel smells like dust and old carpets. What was fun and colorful decor is now drab and unkempt. The staff member, Jamesha, was rude and incorrectly booked us (which meant we were nearly overcharged until she finally listened to what I was saying). The room's A/C was set to 68⁰, but it felt like 75⁰. According to others in the elevator, we weren't the only ones with that issue. Unfortunately, this hotel is now very overpriced for the sub-par service it provides. I wouldn't recommend visiting.

Hotel Derek needs a lot of work and renovations. I stayed here 3 years ago in a Suite and it was nice, so decided to book for a night. We stayed there this past weekend for a night and was moved three times due to room conditions. Every room bathroom we were in was horrible. All the tubs had hair in them. The very last room the toilet was horribly stained. We thought someone urinated in it before we came but it was stained. We had a concert to get to and decided to just stay cause it was only one night for a couple of hours. This was the second worst Hotel I have stayed in. The one star is for the front desk. They were kind. 1/10 wouldn’t recommend though. Update: was charged 60 bucks and don’t know why and no one is picking up the phone to explain why. I’m beyond livid!

The most disgusting place I have ever stayed. Cockroaches. Dirty vents. Wet carpet and the entire hotel smelled like weed after a long speech from front desk about no smoking in hotel. We also asked for change so we could tip accordingly and both the front desk and bar said they can’t break any change and we should Cash App people?! … After showing our pics as proof that it was terrible, the Director of Rooms, Dennis Crawford (who on Linked In is actually the Front Desk Manager) still didn’t care and offered no reimbursement DO NOT STAY HERE!! Save your money and experience and stay elsewhere

The rooms are nice and well appointed, clean and great views, especially in the side facing the Galleria. However... The pool area is obviously neglected, the restaurant is not accommodating at all, and we were ignored for 10 minutes. We went and ate somewhere else for the evening. Breakfast was surprisingly good! They do charge for almost everything, so whatever the room rate was, plan on adding at least $55 to your complete cost. Beds were very comfortable.

  • 3/5 Barbara J. 7 months ago on Google
Service was not great the only person helpful was the cashier for breakfast. Our lunch didn't arrive for one of our conference days and it took 30 minutes to get a salad without nuts. The meeting rooms were average and front desk staff pleasant but things just didn't go to plan. Location wasn't bad but a shuttle to airport would have been nice it was expensive taking Lifts to go to Hobby.

As a business traveler don’t expect any extras and don’t expect to use the hotel amenities that they are happy to charge you for. It’s Monday (Monday night football) and the bar is closed? The pool area is small and the gym was less than desired.

Where do I start? Hotel is raggedy! The rooms are dusty, unclean, plumbing issues, non working lamps, broken bathroom knobs, broken closet door handle. Inaccessible wall charging plugs, and old showers. Plus No housekeeping this weekend. This was the worst hotel stay EVER! We only booked cause it was listed as 4 Star Hotel, which most 4 Stars hotels are fine and meet my expectations. This one, NOT so much. Valet guys were awesome! Restaurant works were fine also. It’s just those 1965 looking rooms that dampened my stay. Don’t book here if you’re used to luxury and clean hotels. This ain’t it! Spend your money elsewhere.

I came here last night. I love the place! It's full of class and has such beautiful ambience. The valet guy was professional as well as the front desk lady Mrs laymond. She was super helpful, kind and friendly! The place is definitely welcoming and has good vibes! The only thing I dislike is that the entrance is right by the light. Leaving there is easy as is on the opposite side of the hwy but the entrance can be a pain getting in when traffic is ridiculous.

Went to Hotel Derek for drinks. The hotel has a unique concept which is really fun. Had cocktails on the bar. Our barman, Johnny, was not only a great cocktail maker but fab host and provided excellent service. I look forward to visiting again the next time I’m in town. I recommend the boozy lemonade 🍸

Nice hotel, room was spacious, but a little outdated. Pool was quite small. Hotel bar was lovely great drinks. Only issue I had was at check in, had to pay for parking to park at hotel. Then at check out extra fees were added which was not disclosed at check-in which made it where I couldn't get my 100 incidental deposit back even though didn't touch mini bar or no incidents.
