1st room- the smell of musty mildew hit us in the face as soon as we walked in. The room was very dirty. The bathroom baseboards had layer of dirt and dust all around them. They had not been cleaned in several weeks, at least! There was dirt on the floors. Stuff on walls that was easy to wipe off. I cleaned the bathroom myself with wet wipes I had as best I could. They gave us aerosol spray to cover the scent of mildew. I slept with mask on as I already had breathing issues before arrival and feared it would become worse. The front lights didn’t work and plug ins beside bed didn’t work also. The next morning, we found we only had hot water. We could barely run enough to shower and not be burnt. The shampoo and bath gel bottles they furnish were never refilled. So we only had conditioner. We demanded something to be done and was told they would try to find us something that would meet our needs and call us. We were able to move to an upgraded room, a king suite. It still had a smell. Not as bad as the one before but like fish scales. It still was not as clean as a room would be expected to be. I wiped down the bathroom again. We realized at this point that we probably wouldn’t get a better room as this appeared to be a trend so we just tried to deal with it. We had 2 more nights to get through and vowed that would be our last nights there ever. They comped us for the 1st night due to all of our issues. We did not request but most certainly accepted as no one should have to pay to sleep in this kind of filth and disrepair! My husband slept on the side closest to the register so I wouldn’t have to breathe in whatever we smelled. There were no vent in the bathroom so if you shut the door to use it, you would quickly get hot and sweaty as there was no air movement. The next morning, we found we did not have hot water. They said they would fix it and it was warm enough to shower within 1-2 hours. Every time we went to shower, we got the same results and had to notify the front desk who would take an hour or two and then tell us it was fixed. The last morning, it never was fixed so we took cool showers. Any other people who stayed there that we talked with stated they all had issue with hot water. Lamp shades & carpets were stained and smelled, and the bathtub fiberglass had holes in it. The tv was old, remote back missing, and very few channels like they just couldn’t afford more then basic channels. Room temperature was inconsistent and varying. The last morning, they gave us letter stating we were gonna be given 300 points on our account or 30% off a future stay there. We took the points as we will never return! The rooms in this hotel have space and could be upgraded, maintained, cleaned and be fine! The problem here is no one seems to care. Management, maintenance, housekeeping. This is a very poor representation of an IHG hotel and certainly not up to the usual standard. They do have free parking, a good breakfast, and great dining staff! That’s all the positives I got!

I would've rated this hotel a 5 star if it weren't for them 1. Placing a hold on my card for $136 instead of $50. 2. Doubling that amount to $272.00 after discussing the previous hold error with a front desk representative who assured me that the amount would drop off and it was their mistake. The stay was awesome! Loved the breakfast, Jacuzzi and pool. The room was clean and comfortable and the employees personalities were Great! It is however not a small thing to make charging errors on customer accounts that can cause financial disruption and simply say" Oops,l! don't worry, it'll drop off" The reality is the time it takes can be the difference Lights on or off in a person's home. There is a reason why people pay in advance for a stay. So this aspect has to change and quickly!

Oh how I wish I would have read the reviews prior to booking. I was so excited to see how close it was to the Toyota center. The lobby was nice and the front desk was helpful. But that’s where it ends. I switched rooms because the first smelled so awful of mildew I immediately felt sick. The second room wasn’t much better. Water in the bathroom never warmed up much. There was mold and mildew in the bathroom. The windows have tarp over them so you can’t see anything. The kicker was that the deadbolt was broken. I felt very unsafe. And there is a club with music playing so loud all night long. For the price, you do Not get your moneys worth. I would expect much more. At least no mildew. We won’t be back. If it weren’t for the helpful staff and the convenience of the walking distance I would give one star.

I thought I was staying in a motel 6. I've stayed in better motels than this hotel. The parking lot in the back looked scketchy had a bunch of people smoking and hanging out. I brought my family here, and we stayed on the 4th floor. The first sight we get on our floor is a huge tarp across the wall. Place looked like a construction site. We came here specifically for the indoor pool and hot tub. The hot tub did not work. The water in the hot tub was colder than the water in the pool. There is no room service and no bar, and the place is charged per night like it's an upscale hotel far from it. I should have read the reviews before paying over 200$ for a room. The room is basic as they get. The tub looks so old and dirty. Not worth it.

Steer clear of this hotel! It may seem convenient because of its location and free parking but I would much rather pay for parking than stay here again. First off the rooms smell of mildew really bad. The walls are super dirty and the floors feel like they are coming apart. You walk in certain parts of the room and it's uneven, we were on the third floor as well. We had to move rooms once because the AC didn't work in the first room. The second rooms AC was much better but the state of the room was worse. The seal on the front door fell off when entering the room. The worst part about the stay was the club across the street that went on until 4 am. The curtains were bad and didn't block out the flashing lights of the club. I know this isn't their fault it's just location but it would have been nice to have a heads up about it. The music was so loud it was impossible to sleep through. And lastly, the employees were probably the rudest I have ever had to deal with. They were very confrontational and didn't seem to care about any issues we had. Like I said, it's a great location but not worth the headache. You will not sleep well here.

Good price for the location and in comparison to nearby hotels. Somewhat clean but not completely. Good breakfast. Turned in timely request for housekeeping service but they did not show so had to go to front desk to get towels.

The room we were in our first night smelled of mold and mildew, the light switches did not work, and we only had extremely hot water, many of the electrical receptacles did not work, and the shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner bottles were completely empty. We asked to be moved to another room. They gave us a free upgrade and comped our first night. The King Suite we were moved to, had a hole in the side of the bath tub, every morning and every evening the water was cold and we would have to ask them to fix the water heater. The lamp shades showed many stains, the room smelled, and was not as clean as you expect for a Holiday Inn Express. We talked to many other people that were there for the convention and they were complaining about it too. The hotel has not been updated in many years, and it shows. Do NOT stay here, it is not clean and will leave you with possible respiratory issues among other things.

Strong odors in the Escalators and common areas. Thankfully I didn't have that odour in my room. But most of the lights were out in my room. Only bed side lights were working. There is one club on the back side of the building, during the weekend ,music all the night actually disturbed my sleep. Worst breakfast. Please ask them to check twice the access cards before getting into the room, I had to go down to get it activated again. Never going to book this hotel again. Overall rating 1/5.

Very convenient for events at the rockets stadium - only a two block walk through very well lit and policed areas. I felt safe with my 12 year old, walking to the stadium and back after the event. Decent complimentary breakfast. Rooms were clean, although our bathroom sink drained slower than it should. Very friendly staff. Would stay again.

Excellent service. Check in fast and courteous. Rooms clean and perfectly arranged. Wifi fast and easily accessible. Lovely inviting pool near the lobby. Lighted parking. Very close to lots of downtown areas. Way affordable for the Houston area. Will plan to stay again.

Nice location and wonderfully friendly and competent staff and nice breakfast service. Hotel is currently beginning renovations which are probably 5 years overdue. Variety of aromas throughout..none were pleasant! Cobwebs in ceiling corners, etc. This was our 5th Express stay in last month. Will come back when renovations are complete if we pass thru Houston. Food & Drinks at the Rustic 2 blocks away we're great.

What a nice place very clean, well organized and everyone was so helpful. INES was a huge help and got us a ride for when and where we needed. Checked our bags so we could finish our classes and come back to pick them and the car up at lunch time. We will definitely stay here again! Indoor pool and hot tub great breakfast as well.

Great location with up front parking for diamond elite members, which was VERY nice. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was on time and had extensive options. Great value, and will return for the accomodations.

I booked a week's stay at this hotel for an event at the convention center. A month before the event started, I called the hotel to take one night off of my fully modifiable 7 night reservation. The hotel had me talk to a central reservation center, and after 30 minutes on the telephone, I was not able to modify my reservation and was not given a reason why. I reached out to the hotel directly and was told that there was a minimum stay so I could not modify my reservation only cancel it. I wrote back and asked what the minimum number of nights was, and why was I not told about the minimum number of nights when I made the reservation? This question was ignored, so I called the hotel. I was told that only the general manager could answer my question, so I asked to speak to the general manager. I was told the GM was unavailable so I left my telephone number. The GM did not call me back. A week later, I sent another e-mail asking what the minimum number of overnights is and why wasn't I told about this when I made the reservation. Two days later no response. Notably, 5 days after the response from the owner to this review, I still have not received any contact from the Holiday Inn or explanation of the minimum number of overnights.

I was there for the past weekend for an event. The problem with my room is the bathroom floor, feels like I'm about to fall in. The chair has a seat cover, revealing a very wear and tear seat(Not worried). Door needs to get fix because it doesn't close all the way, had to push it until it clicks. Only positive side is the breakfast. Generally this hotel needs a renovation. Remodel this place.

The building is old. Looks like they tried to do patch work and a paint job to cover things up in the room. I was hit with a strong smell of mold in the first room. I asked for a different room because of the smell and the second room was just the same. Both rooms were humid despite the A/C being on. The A/C had no option to turn off and sounded like a helicopter flying overhead. By far the worst hotel I’ve stayed at in my travels.

The management here was very nice and was aware of some property defects, however, if I knew the rooms were in this condition I certainly would not have reserved it. The first room we were given had a foul wet smell and spots on the ceiling. We were able to get the room changed but it was only slightly better (pics attached). We would have switch hotels but everything that weekend was overpriced or sold out because of a major concert in town. Again, the manager apologized and explained the 4th floor is being renovated (the start) but the entire build was in the same unacceptable condition (smell, appearance, etc). I want to make others aware before this happens to them and they book this room with family members (or themselves) possessing health concerns like we have. I would not recommend this hotel for any length of stay until the entire building is remodeled or the dampness throughout is addressed.

Unfortunately, not a good experience. A/C smelled musty/of mold. Mold on ceiling. Spent one night and requested maintenance check it out and were moved to a different room while we were at MD Anderson appt. When we got back, the new room was the exact same plus the unit was shaking and very loud. We checked out and had to move to a new hotel location entirely. Not something I wanted to have to manage or worry about while my mom was undergoing enough already.

The staff at HIE were super helpful and nice. We had a few issues with our room and they were great about addressing them. Front desk staff were very sweet. Was a great hotel for housing volunteers for our big gathering.

Both rooms we stayed in were stuffy and humid. There was an overwhelming smell of cigar smoke on the 3rd floor. Security did not do their job and lock the parking gate after 1am and the catalytic converter was stolen from our vehicle over night. Management was not helpful at all through this situation. They acted as though this was normal. I would definitely not be staying here again. This is not a safe location to stay.

Best affordable option in downtown Houston. There are other cheaper hotels but you really don’t even want to consider. Budget friendly, great location, good service and basic amenities any hotel should have. I never stayed here but whenever i have business visits i always recommend this hotel because of the feedback i have gotten.

Within walking distance to The Toyota Center and free parking, which is almost unheard of in the downtown Houston area. Also for safety, the parking lot in the back is gated. The only concern I have is the vent in the bathroom needs to be thoroughly cleaned! Room 212! I was impress with the free breakfast options. Most hotels offer very little for breakfast post pandemic. Here there were scramble eggs, egg white omelets, pork sausage patties, turkey sausage patties, biscuits and gravy all on the bar. There was a variety of oatmeal, fresh fruit, coffee, juices, milk!

Stayed recently and the stay was less than ideal. First impressions of the hotel were mostly positive however, check-in was unexpectedly long. I was next in line and there were several people behind me. The clerk behind the desk was taking a very long time checking a group into their two rooms. I ended up waiting nearly 20 minutes before another staff member finished the personal conversation he was having and decided to come help. Once he assisted me my check-in went quick, just a couple minutes. The hotel on the hotel has a nice appearance, but you can tell it is an old hotel that has had a lot of very minor improvements over the years, things like paint and furnishings. Overall though it felt dated. On My floor the carpet was old and worn, the hallway felt dark and smelled like Marijuana the entire time we were there. Our room was slightly better, except it smelled like mildew and the carpet was stained. The shower curtain rod in our room was improperly installed and it seemed like it could fall to the floor at anytime. The TV was outdated by 10 years and the channel selection was not what I’d expect for a hotel in this price point. The breakfast was ok. However, the night before we stayed at a Holiday Inn express near the Galleria. It was $50 cheaper and the food and service was top notch. For being a more expensive hotel I would expect similar if not better offerings than a cheaper location. Parking was interesting. This is the only hotel in the area which offers free parking. This is a plus and one of the reasons I stayed here. The downside is most of the parking is behind the hotel in a “gated” area. The gates aren’t automatic but they look like they may have been at one point. During the day they are chained open, and a sign says they close and lock the gates during the middle of the night. I like that there is some sense of security. However, given the number of random people I saw hanging around next to the property, I think next time I’d spring for paid parking.
