Best tamales in Houston for any occasion. We go here once a year to pick up 15 plus dozens for friends and family. We always go hand rolled versus machine made. This year we paid $15.99 a dozen. Service was really fast even though there was a very long line. Multiple order takers we're taking orders in line to speed up the process.

My sister-in-law assured me that this was a great place for tamale lovers. She was right! They offer an assortment of handmade and machine-made tamales and other regional dishes. (Some types of tamales they only sell on weekends.) I didn't necessarily like that they sell them by the dozen or half-dozen only, but that just meant there were more for me. I also enjoyed the decor. The giant dolls? statutes? near the entryway provide a perfect photo op.

I ordered to go because I was heading out of town. The Barbacoa was delicious and juicy. Better than anything I've found in Dallas. The Pork Tamales were a medium size, but had a decent amount of meat in them and great flavor. The rice and tortillas were also very good. I was very impressed by the Barbacoa. There's also a Panaderia in the same building. They have a great selection to choose from.

The menudo was ok nothing special very blend. The tamales were nothing special as well I tried the pork & chicken. They tasted store bought not hand made if you ask me. The food was too expensive for the quality they serve. And they started closing 1 hour 3pm before the closing time 4pm to be out by then

This Christmas, I decided not to make tamales. My husband heard of this place and we decided to make the drive from Katy. They had security in the parking lot directing people to the entrance. We had to enter thru the banquet hall and get in a long line. When we got closer to the front, someone took our order (4dz pork tamales) and a few minutes later, or order was brought to us and we went to pay at the register. They had 4 registers open. It was Christmas Eve and they had the line moving fast! They did a great job, starting with the police outside to the way they efficiently had the line moving fast! The tamales are the best I've had in a long time. They are delicious, with a good amount of pork inside. The masa is just right, the flavor how it's supposed to be. The bakery next door has great pastries (Mexican pan dulce) and cupcakes with a surprising filling! We will definitely be back again!

Pretty hyped spot where we had to stop by to see what the fuss was about. The food was okay. The pastor and Barbacoa tasted pretty bland and we had to drench our tamales in salsa to get any flavor at all. What's sad is i had better tres leches in whole foods than here. The staff however is fantastic and we loved the decor.

I just ordered a fajita platter and it is completely the most disgusting 🤮 Mexican food I have tasted ever! If you want to vomit, eat here. And I paid $12 for this mess that I threw away. Never again.

The handmade beef tamales were pretty good. A dozen is $16.99 plus tax. We intended to eat there but changed our minds after no plates were available and there were only plastic utensils. Another thing that was off putting were the huge signs at the entrance prohibiting open and concealed carry.

This is the very first and last time we will buy anything from this restaurant. We purchased 2 dozed hand-made chicken tamales the Friday before Christmas. While they are big, what we were not expecting was the pieces of plastic gloves in our tamales. These are not small pieces. I called and talked to the manager. All she could say was sorry. She didn't sound surprised that this had happened. She did offer a half dozen free but this doesn't make me feel any better about throwing away 2 dozen tamales that cost almost $14 a dozen away. It certainly does add any confidence about buying any in the future. Won't ever be going there.

The place is clean and the service is very attentive. Although, they take too long when serving. The food in the food line looks dry. Prices on food are reasonable. Had champurrado and it's $8 for a medium, very thick and it should be smooth without any lumps. Never again. We have tried tamales from here and are decent. Corn tortillas were good and made in-store. Flour tortillas are nasty! Not impressed

We stopped here on our way home from Tennessee back to San Antonio and the service was awful. We bought bean and cheese for our children, and the lady acted like she didn't understand what I was ordering. They put a lick of beans I ended having to buy my children another meal. The lady making our tacos spoke NO english at all. We also wanted a barbaca taco, and we had to buy an entire 1 lb container because they dont sell it in a taco. Everything was so difficult to order. There are several ladies working the line and its so unorganized. I literally had a headache from ordering food. Then as we were paying i asked for salsa and the person at the register said in spanish that i needed to ask the lady in the service line. Seriously she could've reached over and got us some seeing that we just had spend $60 on some nasty food and empty tacos. Never going there they dont deserve anyones business.

I just absolutely love this place. I've been going here for years on top of years going back to their old location down the street. It's nice to see that their quality didn't change as they moved up. Still my favorite breakfast tacos in the city of Houston. Sweet bread is delicious and tamales always on point. It's definitely worth paying up for the hand made tamales too.

Even though they was a line, it was fast and all ladies helping were efficient in aiding all the customers in their needs. Everyone was bilingual so no language barrier here. Bakery attached to it. Small banquet hall. Small bar(cantina). Inside dining area

Always a delicious experience @Alamo Tamales & Taco! I bring clients and friends here who are visiting from out of town. They’re always impressed, leave with a smile, and looking forward to their next visit. ✈️ Best restaurant-style menudo I’ve had outside of Los Angeles, CA. Tamales 🫔 , tacos 🌮, panes dulces 🥐, IT’S ALL GOOD! 💯 I highly recommend this place! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I do not speak Spanish, so the server gave me HER choices. The tamales are the BEST in Houston. Unfortunately the prices have gone up A LOT and the tamales have less filling. The guacamole is superior and I have found EVERYTHING served there to be DELICIOUS. I have been buying tamales from ALAMO for more than fifteen years! Dr. Harris

Tamales were not so great as all the hype they get. Tamales masa was rough not fully cooked and they were failing apart because they they were not wrapped correctly. I got the hand-made ones. I also got some eggs mix tacos that were great. The barbacoa ones were mushy. 2 dozens of Tamales 6 tacos $64. Definitely not worth it.

I've been coming here for many years since I grew up just down the street. They have always had really good tamales. Today I ordered the handmade chicken and handmade spicy pork. Both were very good. The lady taking my order got a little confused because my Spanish isn't the best and neither is her English but we managed to get thru it easy enough. My only complaint is not having spicy chicken as an option.

It's no longer what was, too industrialized. Tortillas taste terrible. They taste like package tortillas. Tamales my favorite no any more no flavor on and last week I eat and made me sick They are still in business just because of the reputation that their original owner gave based on hard work and love for the community (Sorry guys nothing personal) but you need back to originals recipes

One of the best places to get Tamales hands down. Great atmosphere, excellent service and the bean tamales are the bomb. Fresh hand made corn and flour tortillas, it's worth the drive, just be mindful of the location, lots of construction and not the best spot but you will not regret it. Worth every ounce of penny, gas, and hunger. It's insane.

The handmade tamales are to die for, I have tried the chicken and pork ( both are really good). This place 2 sides to it, on one side is the restaurant and the other side is a bakery. The cream cheese danishes and apple empanadas are sooooooooo good, they have a wide variety of yummy goodness including personal cakes and cake pops. I highly recommend this place

Had breakfast with our family here yesterday. Service was fast. Food was good. Atmosphere was amazing. Live piano player was awesome. So happy this is where we chose to meet!

The food, pastries, and atmosphere are excellent. In addition to eating there, they have a great selection of take out items. We always purchase the hand rolled pork and the jalapeño cheese tamales for Christmas Eve from Alamo Tamales. They are always very fresh and hot. This year's Tamales were excellent!

The best Tamales on the planet… the restaurant is beautiful and clean. Very busy, the staff is nice and working hard to make the line move faster. I only wish they had a location near Baytown or just more locations. I love their tacos! But the tamales are just so delicious.
