Neil the owner is amazing and very kind. The bar is a whole vibe! Stopped in for shots while downtown on scooters, fell and cut my arm Neil came with his 1st aid kit and took care of me. Customer service is impeccable here I'll definitely stop in for shots whenever visiting downtown.

Loved the location beside the Houston bridge and the boat bay. The food is great. Especially the oysters are way beyond awesome. Must try.

This place is a total vibe for a select group of upper echelon on all things cool and retro. Filled with comics, classic counsel's, and old school arcade games even board games. A place to just have some simple Fun.

This place has won me over. Neil's Bahr has fantastic staff, an amazing bar tender, and good prices. As if all that wasn't enough, the place is cool as hell. Videogames, comics, and boardgames!

Great bar with a great selection of drinks! Very unique artwork on the wall and lots of cool vintage video games/comics. They have cool events occasionally as well!

The atmosphere at Neil's is unique and really cool. I've been going for years and always had a good experience. But in my last visit, it was the staff and their kindness that really blew me away. I had just experienced an upsetting situation at another bar when i seeked help to charge my phone. I was alone and needed to get an Uber but i had no way to get a ride. I went to Neil's Bahr and the staff was super helpful and even eager to help me. When they saw how upset i was from my experience at another bar, they even tried to comfort me. The service has always been great but in my last visit the staff went above and beyond. I will always be grateful.

Good bar prices but whats really the attraction are not the drinks or food. However it is the very specific nostalgic feeling many number of ages may feel coming in. The place is smothered in 80s to late 90s glory, comics, some old school game systems and a beautiful grungey underground feeling. I'd most definitely recommend checking it out if you're on the older side of your 20s and beyond. Dope lil spot

My grandmother, brother, and I stopped in today after a mid-week Astros day game. Neil was there and had just gotten back from the game. We were served immediately. Welcomed like family. The whole bar is a fun environment. Just love this local place and the owner clearly goes beyond for his customers!!!

New to Houston, first time here last night, and I implore anyone and everyone to check this place out! Good prices, good staff, good things to do. The only negative thing THAT WASNT THEIR FAULT was the sting operation of a lot behind their building that towed me, and I felt SO bad that I wasn’t able to tip the bar(even though I only spent $10) and while the lady behind the bar didn’t seem to care too much for my sob story as to why I did not tip, it will not affect my return to this place, and hopefully with an actual tip these hard working people deserve!

Once we walked into the bar we were greeted by a bartender that goes by the name grandpa. Such a nice gentleman. He had us laughing once we met him. Great atmosphere and highly recommend this place for a good drink

We were very disappointed in our experience at Neil’s Bahr. It has been recommended as a place we would love, so we decided to go visit to enjoy some games! Parking was a nightmare (the lot across from the bar was $40 and we got told to move when we parked in the lot connected around the corner). We couldn’t get either N64 to work with multiple tries (they had a pretty bad selection of games anyway). They had one upright arcade game that has a ton of games on it (400+), so we played that for a bit. They do have a good comic book selection (read a few), but there were only like 5 table games out for playing. The cocktails we got were ok and the beer was totally fine. I would overwhelmingly recommend Cidercade, Love Buzz, Rudyards Pub, or Southern Yankee over this place.

Updated Review (6 years later): The place is still fantastic, and the vibes are immaculate. There have certainly been notable improvements over the years, and they certainly don't let the maintenance fall to the wayside. It is still very much a great place to come and relax, maybe play a couple games and read some comics. It somehow maintains that atmosphere, almost as if by magic, even at its busiest. All of the bartenders are genuinely super chill, and for the past 6 years I have brought every one of my friends here when they visit Houston. Just a great place in Houston to come and relax for a bit.

Loved the vibe here! Bartenders were so kind. Kinda emo vibe in here, but chill and nice people that were here. Comfy couch to sit on and a few booths. Had fun here! They make some spicy Mexican Candy shots!

A comic book, sci-fi, Simpson lover kinda bar. They make up for a limited tap selection with ample comics to read and games to play. I totally dig the vibe here.

This place is pretty laid back and chill. Music isnt too loud where we cant hear each other. I like the board games and the comic book collection they have. Also the drinks are good too!!

This is a fun bar. It has many classic video games to play, and even table games like Connect4. It has a full bar and a some good beers on tap. With several bottled and can beers. There is food available separate from the bar. Just come and enjoy the nastalgic atmosphere.

Excellent bar, awesome vibes. Love coming by and playing the SNES or N64 with some friends & a few drinks. Outside food is permitted (just clean up afterwards, don't be a jerk). Parking is a bit tricky, but not terrible.

Fun nerdy bar. They have a bunch of old school Nintendo 64 games which I thought was cool. That night they were playing all the Star Wars movies behind the bar which was equally awesome 👌🏾. The drinks were good though it would be cool if they had a nerdy drink menu 👀. I'll definitely have to stop back in when I'm in town 😄.

My first time at Neil's Bar and I was thrown out for no legitimate reason. Some guy told the doorman to kick me out of the bar and the doorman did. Amazing. I've never had such an experience before anywhere.

Cool place. A little dim inside. Games, video games, comics (though I don't know if you can pull them out). Decent prices for things. Neat place to go to.

Fun dive bar to hang with good friends. Has a charming, cozy feel packed with old video game consoles, arcade machines, and comic books. The bar is always playing The Simpsons and plenty of great alcoholic options.

One of the GOATed bars of Houston. Very popular bar with a bunch of older video game setups, including a bring your own switch setup. A lively pingpong table here as well for casuals and tryhards

Great atmosphere! Bar staff was super friendly! They have comics and retro gaming along with TV's for sports and movies. Got to play Mario Cart while watching Mean Girls and football!! Will definitely be back

Been here a few times. Love the atmosphere especially for us gamers and wrestling fans. The Tardis door is awesome too and the drinks are reasonably priced. Brittany is a sweetheart 💕

Excellent safe place to visit after the Gaga show - really enjoyed. I have always heard about this place from friends, but I didn't realize how close to my house it was. Drinks were great and super cheap for the area.

Very relaxing place. Cool people would hang around. Who knows you may end up meeting the soul your heart was longing to meet. 😉

Neil's is always a favorite before or after a ballgame, soccer match, or convention. I'm a huge Simpsons fan and comic nerd, so it is a welcome haven for a quirky soul in search of a place to chill, grab a drink, and play a classic video game or check out a comic book for a bit. Highly recommend. The staff is always a pleasure, as well.

A fun little place, very unique and gritty but unlike any place else in the area. Drinks and diversions are plentiful -- vintage console video games, board games, ping pong, TV, and a selection of comic books and manga to enjoy while you sip. Unfortunately, their actual opening hours don't seem to match what's advertised online -- so don't go too early!
