This fairly small exhibition was quite interesting. Showing us some of the american heritage and culture of America. The gentleman at the reception was very helpfull, by telling us more about the district in the downtown area. Oh and I almost forget, the entrance is free when we were there.

This is a free wonderfully curated contemporary arts museum. It host national , a international and local centric shows.. it has focus and lovely presentation.it sounds cliche but you will leave inspired with much to think about. Banksy’s “ Exit through the gift shop aside; they have a cool eclectic gift shop full of fun quirky things parking across the street in an underground garage or on street.

We went for The Dirty South Contemporary Art, Material Culture, and the Sonic Impulse. It was well put together and very educational! I’m so happy we went as a family before it was gone.

The Dirty South Exhibition currently at the CAM was not only a bit of southern hip-hop nostalgia but also a exploration of African roots, and nuances like Mississippi mud and Florida swamps. Viewers also witness videos of black life simply existing. It showcases a celebration of humanity creating a life in America even in the face of poverty. The exhibition ends on February 6.

This reminds me of a lower tier Renwick Gallery. While I appreciate how they support the local community as a space for there work. This small but spacious museum could definitely pull off some bigger exhibits and truly showcase a great museum.

I have been to many contemporary art museums around the world and this was very disappointing. It is free so that is the only bonus. I enjoyed the sculpture garden more.

I highly recommend spending a cool hour in the basement of this art museum. The current exhibit is a response to how teenagers have reacted to Covid-19. As an artist, I have watched my own three children struggle to deal with this pandemic. This exhibit is not surprisingly, quite profound. Support our children and the arts while taking a break from the heat.

Such an amazing museum. And even the building itself is a piece of art. A huge recommendation for locals that haven't visited in a while as well as for out-of-towners who are looking to experience one of the best contemporary art museums in the country.

Had an amazing day date with my mom and daughters. We really enjoyed the CAMH Court. The art is exciting and truly contemporary. The Teen Council Exhibit downstairs was phenomenal! The amount of detail and character in each piece is outstanding. If you're looking for a free family outing, come here. It's also a nice place to bring a date. There's an area outside where you could have a lil picnic and then go enjoy the artwork.

Once upon a time there was a very rich man who had a very grand museum. One day, two entrepreneurs came to his museum. They told him that they were artists, and that if he provided them with supplies, they would create the most beautiful work of art the museum had ever seen. The entrepreneurs informed the rich man that they would need the utmost secrecy in their painting methods, and they asked for a private room in which to practice. The rich man granted their wish, giving them a nice room and paint made of gold. The entrepreneurs worked for many days, using up most of the rich man's assets, and bragging about how good their art was. "Only the wise can see our art," they would boast. "Anyone who cannot see it is unfit to be called human." After many weeks, the painting was finally ready. The entrepreneurs showed their work to the rich man. The rich man had heard the rumors about their art, so when he only saw a solid color, he felt ashamed. He kept the opinion that he was not wise to himself, though. When the entrepreneurs addressed the paints and brushes of their painting, the rich man applauded. The rich man then showed off the picture to the whole world, saying it was the most beautiful painting in the US. Then, one day, a young boy visited the museum, and looked at the work of "art". He looked it up and down, frowned, and did a Google review. "I, at my young age, could do this! He said with a stunning review. This is not art, but it is chicken scratch!" The world was astounded, realizing that they had been duped by two entrepreneurs. And so ends the story of the rich man's new painting.

Friendly staff and guards. Shows are compelling. You can go for free but you can also contribute. There's 2 galleries. One is upstairs and another downstairs. This is a good place to cool off in summer and they often have kid friendly events. They are super supportive of teens through shows, fashion shows, performance and outreach.

It is more of a gallery than a museum. Exhibit was by two artists. Admission is free. A little underwhelming over all.

Although not a fan of contemporary art, it was a lovely little museum with interesting exhibits. Can't argue with the free admission. 2 levels doesn't take long to go through.

I visited on a weekend, plenty of nearby parking for free. Parking garage is within walking distance. Admission is free and they accept donations. I give it a 3 star for the following reasons. There were only 2 exhibitions. The first floor highlighted black & white prints from the artist’s photography from the 60’s. The lower level had a very disturbing artist in print and the same artist live film showing violence as did the prints and descriptions. I’m not a “trigger” person but this was definitely very dark and would have appreciated a warning as it was extremely graphic and cannot be unseen. I was expecting more artists & different mediums. This rating is solely based on one visit as the exhibits change often. The staff is wonderful. Perhaps the website had something and I just missed it. You are also walking distance to many of Houston’s other museums & Herman Park and nearby hotel for food. A bit disappointing compared to other major cities for contemporary art viewing.

Staff was rude and un helpful. Upon entering the man at the front desk was yelling on his phone. While the other staff glared and made us feel unwelcomed. Would not recommend this in any way. The exhibits were awful and free entrance was still to much.

Free when I went in! But maybe that was just one part. Novel interactive pieces as well as worthwhile things to look at, watch, and listen to.

This reminded me of a Renwick Gallery's bottom division. While I love how they use the local area as a working environment, This tiny but large institution has the potential to host larger exhibitions and really demonstrate what it is capable of. It's a great institution to go to. Exhibitions that rotate are one-of-a-kind and vary year round. It's a plus if you can get in for free. CAMH deserves praise for making art more approachable. Plus point: The lower-level souvenir shop is a lot of fun.

There are two full floors of exhibits now that the gift shop is fully online. The curio cabinet is fun. A guide to that is found in a laminated booklet stored on the wall. On Sunday, free street parking has no time limit.

A fun museum to visit. Rotating exhibits are unique and change throughout the year. Free admission is a plus. Props to CAMH for making art accessible. Bonus: Gift shop in the lower level is very fun.

Navigating the entrance might be a bit tricky, so keep an eye out. Once inside, you’ll discover a treasure trove of art with two captivating exhibitions. Don’t miss the immersive experience of Jordan Strafer Trilogy’s three thought-provoking projections. A unique and enriching visit overall! #CAMH #ArtAdventures

It was a nice experience but unfortunately they didn't have art work on display. But to accommodate for that, they had some art and crafts supply which were provided for free. They also have some magazine and some art and crafts idea pamphlets to practice at home.

CAMH is one of Houston’s BEST museums! Why? Always free. Exhibits emphasize on the now and society; a space for learning and embracing all that art has to offer.

Art is normally more impactful and staff is normally more helpful. I guess it was an off day. Normally, this museum is worth the trip.

I was visiting Houston for the weekend and I have to say that CAMH had one of the most fun and culturally relevant contemporary art shows I’ve seen in a while! (imho) Loved seeing Houston hip-hop culture woven throughout as well as more experimental work like Arthur Jafa’s videos. Recommended!

Love everything about this museum. Friendly and helpful artists and staff. Unique exhibitions. Easy to find street parking. Parking can be found in the back of the museum, near the staff parking, it's free parking for 3 hours(?). Thank you so much for the free monthly art instructions. They are very kid friendly and amazingly supported by staff. Please donate in the front door before or after getting in ( take less than a minute).
