This is a very nice park administered by the City of Houston Parks Dept. and Montgomery County. The park is about 5000 acres and has 26 miles of hiking trails. You can tent camp or camp in an RV, not a lot of RV spots so book early but they do have full hookups which is nice. We were in #2 on the Red Oak loop which encircles Lake Dabney, a small man made lake. Each campsite has a fire ring and a picnic table. The staff we interacted with were really nice. There is a $3 daily admission fee but only for people 13-64, so kids and seniors can enter at no charge. Our RV site was $32 which was fair since it had full hookups as mentioned. There were nice restrooms nearby, albeit they were not heated so a bit cold on a frosty morning, there are also private shower rooms which we did not use.

Amazing park close to Houston with tons of outdoor adventure options available from hiking to camping, bike trails and even a creek that is open for swimming. They also have a nature center and picnic areas. We love to hike so we spend our time on the hiking trails. The trails are easy, but there are plenty of miles to get a good hike. It’s beautiful and peaceful and not overly crowded, especially on the longer trails. It’s $3 per person to enter but completely worth it as the park is very well maintained.

Cabins were very comfortable and clean. The park is beautiful and close to Houston for a weekend getaway. I don't think you should have to pay to enter the park after you pay to stay in cabins. $3 per person per night. The address is completely incorrect on the website, and if you use your navigation, you will wind up lost. I would definitely go back.

Pretty cool vibes ! First time there n just walked an hour on a trail. Took some cool pics tho. Nice area w a creek that someone was having a kids birthday at (genius), lots of walking n trails, little lake and lakeside sites. It’s a huge park so I’m sure I only scratched the service but we def wanna go back n explore more

We recently learned about this hidden gem and visited to scout out campsites for an upcoming trip. Overall, the area was well maintained and the facilities in the campground area were nice! The park staff at the front gate were also incredibly nice and welcoming. I'm looking forward to camping here in a few weeks. There are limited photos online of the sites, so we took photos of unoccupied sites to help others plan their trip. Sites 1-8 are walk-in sites and are located a short distance from the parking, maybe 50 yards to the farthest site. Sites 9-16 appeared to be busy, so we did not go down that loop in order to be respectful of the individuals camping. It appeared that some of those sites had parking at the site. Finally, sites 17-23 appeared to also have parking near each site. There is a shared lot a short distance away. Starting at Site 20, which is probably the furthest from the restroom facility, it was a 3 to 4 minute walk down the gravel road to the restrooms. **UPDATE** After camping here recently, I wanted to provide a quick update. I was able to get photos of a few more sites and added those below. I love how many of the sites are tucked away. providing a little more privacy. The park staff are amazing. Every interaction we had was great. They drive through the sites regularly making sure things are good, picking up an errant trash, and are present without being intrusive. The bathrooms are very clean (based on the log sheet, they are cleaned 2 to 3 times a day!), the showers are private, clean, and most importantly, not full of bugs. There are three separate sections in the tent camping area. Each section has a covered pavilion with electricity and a covered sink area with multiple faucets for washing dishes and refilling water. The trails are excellent. VERY well maintained, but still providing a natural experience. We hiked the trails around the campsites as well as part of the Ameritrail that leads to the primitive sites. The primitive sites were also very nice and I plan on staying in one soon. Primitive Site 4, the farthest from the trailhead, is about 1.5 miles from the Canoe Launch Road parking area. Sites 1 and 2 are roughly .5 mile from that parking area. I'm still amazed that this park is so close and we had no idea it existed until recently. It is definitely worth a day trip to get the kids out and moving and a wonderful campground if you're looking for somewhere close to home with plenty of room to explore.

This is one of our favorite parks!! The place is kept clean and the trails are amazing! The playground and nature center is one area the kids always ask to go to. The pebble beach area was mostly under water on our last trip, but that did not deter the kids from getting in the water knee deep!

Took the kids for a day trip. This is a great place to hit some easy trails with bridges and boardwalks. Very well maintained with perfect picnic spots. The playground was great for after lunch and post hike. The Nature Center is a wonderful little spot for any kid. They have a room for all the different wildlife that can be found there. It was pretty interactive and the staff was super friendly and helpful. We will definitely be making more day trips, especially with Spring weather around the corner. Kids under 15 are free and adults just $3. Also, can be a little muddy in some spots around Peach Creek. Only complaint is they didn't sell magnets lol it's our souvenir of choice.

The most wild experience, because the tent space it is inside the woods, you are able to hiking, biking and don’t forget to bring with you insect repellent specially in spring and summer seasons. Perfect for relaxing and enjoying with kiddos and family.

A pretty nice park, but the signage is not very good. We did an interior hike that was very nice - didn't see a soul. But after hiking 5 miles you don't want to struggle how to find the main parking area. Trail exits were not clearly marked. Otherwise, it was a nice park. Once the Grand Parkway is completed it will be easier to get to.

We enjoyed all the trails. Clean bathrooms. The nature center was closed (it was a Monday) but the whole area was nice and quiet. Hard to believe you are in Houston. Would definitely go back.

Today was my first time coming here and I had a great experience. Outdoors and multiple things to do throughout the park. Started at the peach creek trail and rode all the way through twice. Sandy at some points so definitely ride with caution! The A frame camp sites are pretty cool too!

Great park! Worth the drive if you like to hike. Also the nature center is really cool with live animals and lots of kid friendly information. The folks that work there are super nice and frendly.

Good walking trails around the lake and river creek. There is white sand beach access along the creek and well maintained bbq area. There are several beautiful cabins by the lake. Each cabin has two queen beds and a pull out sofa that sleeps six total. I will consider rent the cabin in the future. It is catch and release only if you are interested in fishing.

Camped this weekend. It was awesome! What a great hidden gem with so many amenities and trails that we plan on returning often. Great fellow campers...everyone was friendly and helpful to us as brand new campers. The park is super clean with the nicest and most well-attended restrooms and sites. Cannot say enough nice things about this park and its staff!

Best nature trails in all Houston. Highly-rated and recommended. Fun for every age. The cabins on the Lake are perfect for a getaway from the big city and totally feel somewhere completely different

Such a beautiful place to go hiking, swimming, or trail riding. Dogs are allowed and it's very cheap to get in. We'll definitely be visiting again soon.

Loved this beautiful scenic state park a hidden gem! The trails were just lovely lots of tree coverage to give some shade while walking in beautiful nature. I loved that as I was hiking I ran into the beautiful stream of Lake Houston and got to splash around like a kid! They even had sand for the beach effect too there was lots of people at the park but very spread out so no crowded affect at all! Helpful tip start at the Nature Center if going on trails so u do not get lost bc there are so many that loop and entertained! I cannot wait to go back for the weekend and stay at the lovely Lakeside cabins that are available! On a sidenote the only porter potty i ever used were it literally smelled like febreeze/ Fabulouso I usually hold my breath and go in and out in a flash idk what they use bit definitely is working no bad smell at all! Lol. Just thought I would add that!😅I really enjoyed the park and my Saturday hike did not want to leave at all so much fun and beauty in nature! Don't forget to check out the Nature Center Exhibits as well super educational, setup and staff very friendly and helpful throughout the park!

We had an excellent day walking around the trails and lake. They were a little waterlogged from the recent rains but that didn’t stop us from having a lovely day out

This place is huge and has so much to explore, but be sure to bring something to hinder the mosquitos. Prices were great, staff was amazing. Park was extremely clean and the cabins were fantastic. I hope to come back a bit more prepared next time.

We enjoyed a day out and went for a 4 mile bike ride with kids ages 4,5,7,11,11, and 14 the trails were perfect for everyone in the group. We ended at the park, had a picnic 🧺 lunch; then headed down to the stream so the kids could splash around before heading home. This is a nice spot to escape the city. If you go just know the visitors center is closed Monday and Tuesday but they do currently have some baby gators 🐊 the kids can go see.

I love the shelters!! I have small children so it’s nice to camp and not worry about cars driving by our site. We bring a wagon to get our things from the car to the campsite, it’s a little extra work but it’s worth it for the safety. The nature center is fun for the kids. They love the playground and the sandbox too.
