You can feel the ancestors here... it is full of soul and community. As I was walking other brothers and sisters were greeting and acknowledging me. WOW!!! I talked with an elder gentleman that lives across the street from the park for about 40 minutes just hearing his stories.

Great community path! Nice tile mosaics dot the park with descriptions of historical figures. Also includes baseball field, tennis courts, basketball court, aquatic center, and rec center. Well laid out and clean.

Very nicely kept, beautiful park. Went for the memorial of black lives. Made sure we were safe, masked and distanced from each other and placed elders in the front.

This is a beautiful park bordered by Emancipation Ave, Elgin St, Hutchins St and Tuam St. It's an urban oasis. See my photo of the Park Directory. Cultural, Aquatic and Recreation Centers are located here. The Rec Center has a gymnasium and weight/exercise equipment room. In addition, there is a baseball field, picnic pavilions, a playground and a large green space.

The pillars on each corner of the park are beautiful, and each has an overview of an important figure in Houston African American history and the founding of the park. The playground was closed while we were there (April 2022), but we did use one of the pavilions/shelters to have a picnic.

This park is SO Peaceful. I spent around 90 minutes here on a cloudy Sunday afternoon in Houston. Weather was good, and people were out enjoying the day. Lots of space for families, picnics and sporting events. Historically significant, but didn't catch many of the historical buildings as they were locked. Beautiful shots of the skyline to be had here my fellow photographers! Check it out when down in H-Town!

Nice park to play tennis in and also has a nice little league/softball field. It has lights on tennis courts and they are well maintained. The basketball courts are not in great shape. Not sure if they ever open up the new pool in the community area.

Never been to a city recreation center. Glad I came to this one. The architectural design on the outside is very nice and modern. The weight room is decent. Has 3 treadmills, 3 ellipticals, leg press, and a number of varying strength training equipments. Not huge or a large variety of equipment like YMCA or other gyms but it's good enough to do some strength training and cardio. You do need to check-in with a badge every time you come in. Unfortunately, there are no showers or lockers.

Beautiful park. My favorite part was the mosaic pillars on every corner. Each corner has a historical figure on it. In the light of the sun and the dark of the night they shine. If you haven’t seen them yet, you have to stop by.

The kids loved the pool, park, and basketball. friendly life guards it's a nice environment overall. I love the fact you can bring food and drinks with the exception of no glass bottles. We definitely will be back.

Today the pool was green and in need of a deep cleaning. It was open however I didn't feel comfortable letting anyone swim in it. I'm very disappointed as this pool used to be very well maintained.

Looks beautiful but very sad because I saw no kids or families playing there. Seems to be a gathering point for homeless people. It made me really sad because all the people I met there looked defeated which is a stark opposite of EMANCIPATION

I attended a "Jazz In the Park" event featuring The Conrad Johnson Big Band and it was Splendid. The park is beautiful. Lots of trees for shaded picnics, basketball court, tennis courts, a large children's play area, swimming pool and more.

It was great being back in 3rd Ward and at the park where it all started for this amazing black community. The park is beautiful and I can't wait to go back. My son loved it too...seeing all the different courts and play options. It was great and it was awesome seeing the original residents of the community enjoying the park!!!

Great outdoor area for walking and outdoor activities. Access to the gym is free with online sign up. It is a small gym but has enough equipment and weights to get a decent wo in!
