Listen, I’ve been coming here for years, since at least the early 90s when my dad used to live down the street. I’ve started trying to go on a bit more regular basis, and I’ve had quite a bit of the items served, mostly the pancakes, chicken fried steak, sandwiches, and burgers. Ironically all this time spent here and I’ve never had any pie. That changed this weekend. I don’t want to continue this review any further without first acknowledging the waitresses here; they are by far some of the absolute sweetest people ever. They are phenomenal. Now, the pie. It was during my last visit where the waitress told me about the Bayou Goo. Blessed be the Kingdom of Heaven. It doesn’t make sense how good this is. Thick, flaky crust, pecans, chocolate cream, thick whipped cream... it literally made my pinky toes curl. This could easily become my latest addiction. Seriously.

A Houston staple for comfort food. The chicken fried chicken, chili, and cottage fries are a few of our favorites. The strawberry milkshake is also amazing. Bayou Goo, coconut cream, and banana cream pies are so good! Great place to take a step back, slow down, relax, and indulge in some home-cooked meals. The service is always phenomenal, and the ambience is homey and comforting. The drip coffee is also solid. The pies are perfect for holiday meals like Thanksgiving and Christmas.

It’s such a feel good diner straight from the 80s. I was having such a horrible day, but then you get a sweet and caring waitress that brings you coffee in their iconic brown cups, walks you if needed though the menu, and even compliments on how great the steak looks once she brings out the plate. I left stuffed and happy. Diners like these have a certain magic to them as described in Neil Geiman’s American Gods. Btw, the menu on their website is slightly outdated. The eggs Benedict are available not only on weekends anymore. I remember them to be quite good!

Service was wonderful. Food was delicious. I wanted the chicken pot pie but they were out so I ordered the chicken dinner with soup. The soup tasted homemade and was wonderful. After dinner we had the Bavarian choclate pie and the lemon icebox. Both were amazing. Definitely worth stopping by if you have he chance.

My goodness! The strawberry pie is absolutely stunning. The crust was nice and crunchy, strawberries nice and fresh and the whip cream just the perfect amount of sweet and creamy. Glazed lightly with strawberry sauce just pulls it all together for a perfect strawberry pie. Highly recommend

Wow! Amazing place. I've been here three times already, and I'm beginning to love it. Big selection of pies. I love the apple pie with coffee. My favorite. The place has beautiful and interesting decorations. The bathroom is very clean, and I always notice and check. To me? Very important. Honestly, the bathroom smelled like a rose garden. The waiters are nice and friendly. To my surprise, they serve breakfast all day, so don't wait, come on over and enjoy your favorite breakfast and piece of good O pie. I recommend this place.

I like their Meat loaf and their salad. The taste isn't that good but it fills the spot. Prices are reasonable, but not fair for the quality of some of their food. I love their house salad and their pies. 🥧🤤 The staff as usual, not very friendly except for the cleaning guys, they are actually nicer and welcoming. I hope they improve the quality of their food and retrain their waiters to deliver great customer service.

It's diner type food. I only had the chicken pot pie and it was decent. The vibe of the restaurant reminds me of old Las Vegas. It was fun to people watch here. The dessert pies look huge. I wouldn't go out of my way for this place, but if you're in the area it's worth a try.

My new favorite place to dine in. I have eaten here a few times after my 1st time. The service is amazing too. I prefer my favorite waitresses, I have to get her name next time They have plenty of options to choice from and I try my best to try something new each time. And their prices are quite decent too.

Disappointed. Diminished hours and service. Never received the drink I ordered. Requested no tomatoes due to food sensitivity and ended up having to pick off anything covered in raw tomato. The half of my sandwich that I got to eat was good. Would have enjoyed it more if I was served my order. For a restaurant that requires a minimum table service, I spent less time eating than I did waiting to order, or waiting for the server to bring back change for a $20 so I could tip. Ended up having to ask for my change. I like to tip at least 25% but I'm not going to tip almost 100% on a bad job. I should have checked my receipt before I paid for the drink that I never received, but after having waited for so long for a quick meal I just wanted to leave.

Omg!!! The food was hot, fresh, and soft scrambled eggs cooked to perfection. The chicken fried chicken was a great size, moist, and full of flavor. I'll definitely be back!!

Service was extremely slow and server rarely checked in. Food was cold, lacked flavor and if presentation was a grade it would have definitely failed. This particular location has a very old 60’s -70’s ambiance. The only reason it got 2 stars was the desserts were phenomenal and the only reason worth going.

Got the Coconut Creme pie and it was like a slice of heaven. Service could be improved more, but the food made up for it.

We had the sweetest waitress- I wish I could remember her name. She was very attentive. Each of our plates were cooked perfectly. I even had her tell the cook that. They need to hear that more - IMO. I had a cup of green tea w/lemon. It hit the spot. I ordered the banana pudding cake to go. And boy did it knock my socks off when I ate it at midnight. Can't recall what his dessert was but he loved it. Yummmmy. Definitely worth another visit. Traveled about 2 hours for this dinner. Loved our experience.

Services a little slow. That's my only complaint. I had the buttermilk pie and it was absolutely fantastic. I've never tried that one before but it has a really great texture and taste. The custard pie wasn't exactly what I thought it would be. I thought it would be creamier and thicker, but it wasn't. It was a nice experience as well, just not what I expected. The Omelette was absolutely great and I highly recommend getting it. My friend got a burger and he said it was nothing special. Not bad, just not things special.

I went for dessert. The pie selection was amazing. All of them looked soooo good. It is an old diner style place with counter and table service. I sat at the counter. Had the Bayou Goo and a glass of milk. Very nostalgic of childhood. The server was super friendly and helpful. Answered all my questions about the different pies. Place has been here forever and once you go in, you will know why. I watched them bring out several plates of food. Even though I'd didn't eat anything but pie, the food was nicely presented, great size portions and served promptly. Probably a really good meal.

Marlene, our waitress was vibrant and attentive. The atmosphere was calm as usual (the day crowd as apposed to the night crowd). I had a pattymelt, as you can see it was delicious and all I have left is less than ½ of my hash browns. Very filling and medium rare as I requested. (Everyone shows you what the food looks like, I'm showing how much I enjoyed it, which in my opinion is WAY more important. Even horrible food can look good, right!).

Breakfast day 2, The Original House of Pies, Waffle Platter, Belgian Waffle, two eggs over easy, and bacon. I also got a slice of Sugar-Free Apple pie to go for later.

Great diner vibe and delicious pie. The decor will make you feel like you stepped back in time. I love how you see the whole diversity of Houston in this restaurant, from families, babies, seniors and prom dates, all enjoying great food and dessert.

Loved it! Delicious food and wonderful service. I went for breakfast. The ambience was good and the food was fantastic. It gets crowded very fast but I don’t think the waiting time is very long. Recommend it!

This place was a surprise. Stopped by since it was open. Glad we dropped in, I actually gave it 4 stars because they have so many items to choose from, it's overwhelming 🤯 The food we had though tasted great, my wife had the Monte Cristo and she said it was one of the best she's had. I had your traditional breakfast, but whatever they seasoned the hashbrowns with was excellent. Biscuits were fresh considering it was almost midnight. Waitress was very attentive and friendly.
