This place is terrible. Do not allow your family member to be transferred to this hospital. Do not voluntarily admit yourself or your family to this hospital. First, my family member was admitted under the WRONG DATE OF BIRTH. That is a critical error that was not caught until the patient saw it 3 days later. 3 DAYS! Next, a tech KICKED my family member during a manic episode. They have no concern for including the patients support system in their care. “Plan of care/care plans” are not part of their vocabulary. The charge nurses are very unprofessional and rude on update calls. There call system doesn’t work to begin with. They use caller ID to avoid phone calls they do not want to take. The nurses do not make eye contact with patients who speak to them. The case managers are arrogant. They do not listen to complaints. They do not follow up. My family member was discharged with no follow up instructions. The inside is disgusting. It looks like a prison. I agree with a review below—if you do not want to deal with psych patients, do not work in a psych facility. Avoid this place at all costs.

My daughter spent 12 days here at West Oaks and I found it to be absolutely a horrible experience. I called almost every day to get an update on her condition as she had granted permission for me to do so. I did not receive a single phone call during her entire stay to update me on her. I left the administration office 3 messages as they do not answer their phones as well. I did not hear back from anyone on this either. My daughter was dismissed yesterday and today I get a call from billing to notify me of my expenses. Hmmm, their pretty quick about this, but heaven forbid you need information about your loved one. My recommendation to you is to just stay away from this facility! You'd be better off reserving the best hotel in Houston, where at least you'll get a good night's sleep and decent food... What a joke!!!

Wish I could give less than 1 star but I honestly don't know how this place is even functioning. My mom was admitted here for some very severe paranoia, she was sent from a hospital. This was an involuntary stay due to paranoia, to the point where people feared for her and others safety. I didn't hear anything from the hospital for a couple days and then a few days after admission they call to tell me she's being discharged. They never contacted me to confirm or to ask about discharge instructions. There was no discussion about her living situation, zero concerns about her post discharge. They just called to say she was getting discharged that same day. From the sound of it, she was still experiencing some severe paranoia, to the point that there is no way she would be able to function independently. She's been in and out of behavioral health facilities for the last couple years and even those places were far better than whatever this place is. Since I don't live locally I was unable to handle the situation and I'm her only resource. She is effectively homeless. They asked if she would be okay with a group home, mom said no because she was still experiencing some paranoia. So they instead contacted a homeless shelter which they told me probably don't have any beds. I understand this place is not a homeless shelter but it also doesn't even appear to be a behavioral health center. So really what is this place? I feel like they didn't do anything for her, just gave her a bed for the weekend.

My husband and his son had been waiting for the intake process for more than 7 hours only to be told that they have no beds available. The admission could have set the expectations from the start and not strung them along. People who come to these facilities are already struggling with something. They don't need additional stress dealing with something like this. If this is how incoming patients are being treated, I would assume the level of service being given to the existing ones is the same. Let this be a heads-up to others who are planning to take their loved ones to this place.

I do not recommend this facility to "NO" one that actually care and love their family member that has challenges with mental health. My daughter was only 8 years old and our experience was terrible. This place made her regress big time. She needed therapy after leaving this facility due to the lack of professionalism and unfair treatment to kids.' I will be contacting the news outlets to spread the word of this poorly ran facility. My daughter still has nightmares about this place. When she came home, she was totally different. My family was so disappointed even when visiting her. She was not the same. I fought hard to get her away from this place and with God's grace she is back to herself. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANYONE YOU LOVE HERE.

So the team is quick to respond to 1 star reviews, but cannot give me a call back. I’ve left a message using the below link. My minor daughter has been there since Saturday, I’ve spoken to a therapist 1 time and that’s only to ask about her arrangements for when she gets home. The nurses call asking my consent to give my daughter medication, but the psychiatrist, Dr. Starbranch has not spoken to me once. Then I found out, of course through my daughter, that she decided to “take a break” therefore assigning her a new Dr and having to start over with the evaluation. This is ridiculous and extremely unprofessional. You guys have minor children and do mot communicate with the parents. It definitely was not our choice to come here. I would have never selected a place with all these common, terrible reviews. Obviously there’s an ongoing issue.

this hospital is terrible . The staff dont help you at all. They are rude and give you NO information about your family members. My mom is mentally ill in the head and cant think properly and they wouldnt tell me ANYTHING about how shes doing. She needs glasses to read and she told me she kept telling them she couldnt read what she was signing and they still made her sign it. Its been almost 24 hours since my mom has been there and Ive heard NOTHING about how shes doing or anything. Ive left multiple messages for them to tell my mom to call me and ive heard nothing. Who knows if theyre even giving her the messages. All i want to know is if my mom is okay and they wont say anything. I wouldnt recommend this hopsital to ANYONE. They better hope that stuff gets turned around or I will be going to a news stations or something to share how terrible they are.

My child was transferred in from the ER. They assured the hospital that she would have a bed when she arrived. Transferred in by ambulance and sat 5 hours in a room just waiting for a so called in-take process. No communication from staff at all during that time. My husband had to ask several times what was the hold up. After sitting this long my husband signed her out Ridiculous!!!

Please do not take your children here. The staff are extremely unprofessional and the wait time is ridiculous. After a very troubling experience with the intake nurse & observing the way the other patients were being treated. I decided that I was not comfortable with my 7 y/o son staying at their facility and the other intake nurse tried to bully me into leaving my child there by threatening to call Child Protective Services on me. He went through a whole scenario of how they would call CPS and how traumatic a cps case would be. He said that CPS would come to my home and remove my son then take me to court and take custody of my son for not allowing west oaks to evaluate my child. I was also forced to sign a paper saying why I was not allowing my child to stay at this hospital and as I was writing my complaint the nurse snatched the clipboard out of my hands and said that wasn’t the place to write my complaint and went back into the nurses station. She then came out and had me sign a blank page that was talking about me taki against medical advice ( but I never received any just threats) I proceeded to sign the paper since she told me she would provide me with copies. No copies after I signed the paper I was walked into the hallway given my belongings to leave. When i askEd for copies of the documents I signed I was told that they are a part of medical records and no copies will be provided! This place is a scam and I wouldn’t take ANY HUMAN HERE LET ALONG MY CHILD I will be filling a complaint with the state

Please DO NOT take your child here. I voluntarily took my 11 year old daughter in last night, when we arrived we were taken back to a waiting room that was unclean, no water available, no restrooms and trash on the floor. I asked to leave and the tech on duty said that he would let the nurse know that I wanted to leave. Keep in mind, we did not have any vitals taken or had talked to anyone and we are in a locked room that the only way out was by key that the employees held. Again, I asked. And again, and again. I had to call 911 in order to leave (2.5 hours later). I will be finding an attorney to get this place SHUTDOWN!!

Do not take your child to this Hospital. Recently our 9 year old son was referred to this so-called Hospital for an evaluation. He was referred in the middle of the night by Texas Children's Hospital ER. Upon arrival to the so-called Hospital the ambulance crew had to wait 15 minutes before they were allowed in. We were sent to a waiting area that had no furniture only plastic blocks to sit on and it was cold and damp in that room. The staff would not provide any blankets. Also the room was locked with no accessibility to any restrooms. After a 3-hour wait I asked if my son could use a bathroom and 10 minutes later he was allowed to. I also inquired from the staff how much longer before my son's room would be ready because we were told at Texas Children's Hospital the room was already ready for him. We were then West Oaks staff told it would be an additional 3 to 4 hours. At this point I inform the staff that was totally unacceptable and that our family would be leaving at that moment. At that point the staff threatened us and stated if you leave now AMA we will report you to the authorities and to CPS for child neglect. At this point my wife and I who are both healthcare professionals stated get us the form we will sign it and we are leaving now! The staff reluctantly complied and on our way out we had to ask them to return our keys and and phones that they took from us upon entry. It also should be noted that upon leaving the reception area there is no state, County, or federal health certificates posted anywhere. Also the doorways and hallways are all manually locked which is in full violation of all fire codes. Currently we are consulting with our attorney on what legal recourse we will be taking and also to file complaints with state and county certifying boards. Also as today CPS has begun an investigation of possible medical neglect against us. Ironically the CPS case worker was at the school when I picked my son up for a medical appointment. Again, do not take your child to this facility read the reviews also read the state inspection reports and the state health audits performed on this facility. This is all public information that's easily accessible through the internet. Again, we were totally appalled of the condition of this so called hospital and the unprofessionalism and total lack of caring from its staff.

This place is it’s horrible. They need to shut it down as soon as possible!!!!My daughter was there for five days. she called me every single day to take her out, begging me. But they wouldn’t even want to let her out because she was involuntary!!The nurses are soooo rude and don’t care at all !!One of them even made fun of her because she was crying no sympathy or compassion for None of the patients there !!!NEVER EVER EVER !!!! allow your love one to come to this asylum !!!! They only care about the money and not about the patients getting well. The doctors and therapists are a joke. They don’t help at all either. My daughter got touched by one of the other man and the doctor said that she was lying. Just a horrible place. The state needs to be involved.

I would like to share my experience as an interpreter for West Oaks, specifically my experience working with the interpreter’s Coordinator, Ana Martinez. Ms Martinez is an excellent professional, always striving for excellence. She treats her interpreters with Respect, and the utmost human quality. She likes punctuality, and requests that their interpreters provides her with an update on the patients situation, mainly because she is handling all the hospital’s units. I highly recommend the west oaks for interpreters to work in and Ms Martinez as a Coordinator.

Im leaving this 5 star review for Ms. Marilyn and Ms. Marie in Unit 4. Ms. Marilyn was so helpful during my stay, she reassured us every day, told us to speak positive of ourselves and helped us in any way that she could. Without her I wouldn't have made it in there. Shes the best, I looked forward to having group with her every morning because it would start my morning on a good note. Ms. Marie also made sure to take care of our needs and made sure we were being heard and seen not dismissed. I also liked the professionalism of Doctor Sonny he was great. Everyone else should follow after them & I promise this place would be so much better.

Truly a horrendous experience that was almost as traumatizing as watching my sibling die. People on my unit who had been to prison said the prison guards were nicer than the staff. Staff were verbally abusive to patients and didn’t care at all about patients. It would have been super easy to have hurt myself on the unsupervised smoke breaks so it’s not even safe. All my time at West Oaks did was scar me for life and make me incapable of trusting mental health providers going forward. This place should not be allowed to operate and DO NOT go there or send your loved ones there if at all possible. I went there involuntarily but I wish I had died instead of going there.

My child/teen has been here a few times over the years and is always treated with great care and respect. She requests West Oaks and likes the food, participates in group and really likes her caregivers. Over the years there have been a few staff who were short on patience but it is no easy task to care for the mentally ill during a break down, much less a floor full of sick children. I appreciate they always call to discuss meds and let me know how my child is doing. Of course your loved one is also able to call you and there is visitation providing you are on the call list and have the private pt ID that is given to the legal gaurdian.

Thanks to Post Oak Hospital, my loved one was hospitalized different times in a row in another hospital and never had improvement until finally I brought to West Oaks Hospital, after hospitalized she finally had the therapy and the therapist she needed to get better, all staff at the Outpatient therapy program is very helpful and compassionate. Ms Deborah is so kind and understanding. I'm only sorry I didn't bring here before, was a lost of time when time is really important to find out the solution.

I had a mostly positive experience with the staff at West Oaks Hospital. In particular, I want to shower some praise on the front desk staff of Mr. Alex and Ms Dana. They were not only kind, calm, patient and helpful to me, they also showed incredible compassion to every person I witnessed them interact with. There was also a young man, dark skinned, with a goatee who was a tech on unit 7, who gave outstanding care and concern to everyone I saw him interact with on the unit. The unit nurse on 7 was a different matter entirely. If it wasn't for the incredible service Mr. Alex and Ms Dana gave me to and everyone they dealt with, this would be a one star review. Ms Sola is badly in need of training.

Ms. Dana at the front desk is a sweet angel. She goes above and beyond and helping people both the patient and the person that’s admitting the patient feel so welcome and comfortable. I came up there today tired, frustrated and hungry. Mostly, I just needed some water. She gave me a nice glass of water and gave my grandson water. Then somehow she had found some food for us to eat and I’m so thankful for her. The administrator, intake lady and the therapist and hospital staff treated me very kindly as they assisted with my family member being admitted. Thank you ALL so much!

This was the worst experience ever my daughter called several times crying begging for her to be taken out. I told. The nurse several times to. Write in my daughter file for the doctor to call me. No call they only called to see if I would allow A certain medication. I said no due to the side effects And never came up with no solution or plan for her I sign her out and no where in her notes. That they put in there. That. I needed doctor to call me and nothing about a release date So if you don’t agree on medication they seem to forget about them

I was here 10 years ago, and waited 6 hours to get admitted here. Got admitted at 3 AM on a Saturday, and only had 3 hours of sleep on the first night. Saw doctor after doctor, being prescribed a bunch of medications that I didn't need, and was treated like horse manure here. I was glad to have left after about 6 days. Never coming back to this place, even if my life literally depended on it.

I was a patient at West Oaks back in the early 80’s, I’m sure a lot has changed since then. I spent 9 months in the facility and have terrible memories but with therapy I was able to face the nightmare. As I look at the photos now it looks completely different from when I was there. As I said before I am sure with new laws a lot has changed.

I was transferred here while waiting for available space at Ben Taub's emergency room. This place felt like a nightmare. I expressed very clearly my needs and none of them were met, all the while I was manipulated and gaslit by staff. I was treated as if I was much sicker than I really am so they could throw mystery medications at me, I still don't know what it was because I refused to take them when they wouldn't explain what it was for. I was struggling with trauma related to PTSD and I can say this place has made my medical trauma much much worse. I was constantly starving and dehydrated because the food and water was such poor quality, and couldn't sleep because all that was in my pillow case was a folded up, rock hard blanket. Please don't go here or send your loved ones here unless you want to traumatize them even more. The staff and doctors only care about filling up your hospital bill, these people are heartless and incredibly unprofessional. If I weren't so upset by the experience I'd find the service laughable. I don't know how places like this stay open. This was hell.

I cannot believe this place is still open. The testimonies now are just as bad as 14 years ago. I was there after a bout of postpartum depression. The place was far from therapeutic, it was dirty, with rotten food, freezing cold, arrogant and rude staff, no psychological therapy, people were forced to take meds that made you feel drunk, they would give electroshock to some patients and some would say they lost their memory which was terrifying, group therapies were poorly planned and ineffective, the psychiatrist would give you 5 minutes every week or less and give random diagnoses and medication treatments, you would get mixed with severely mentally ill patients which was disturbing. It seems they let you go once the insurance runs out, and it was imposible to take that place seriously, it was more like a jail. I left feeling worse because this was a traumatic experience. This place need to either shut down or fully change to be a place of healing and not a jail.

I was admitted to this facility in March. I was in the middle of a psychosis episode. The first day I was there I just paced around the facility. That night I saw a doctor, after seeing the dr. I was given a shot not really sure what it was. I was extremely suicidal the first night as I thought I was going to prison (part of my psychosis). I searched for something sharp but was unable to find anything. The next days were better for me, they were trying different medications to help me sleep, I was able to sleep good the remaining nights which helped me feel better. This facility helped me feel safe as weird as it sounds. It was a place where I could finally relax and try to get better without dealing with responsibilities. I was in psychosis due to extreme life stress events. I am grateful I went just so I could get away and focus on getting better. I thought the food was fantastic. The facility itself was a bit gross, the showers I wish were cleaned better. There was also a guy that walked and peed constantly so the floor was gross. I wasn't allowed to have shoes for like 3 days so I wore socks. Overall West Oaks is good if you are experiencing psych episodes. At first I fought with the nurse because she was giving me opiods. Eventually they got the medicine right and it helped me snap out of psychosis and sleep deprivation. Thanks West Oaks, just try to focus more on cleanliness and get slider shoes for patients to wear before they get their own shoes....socks are unacceptable. Those are my only complaints.

My My son told me they put him in a room with a man who put his hands on him. Put him in a room with another man who hit him, then put him back in the first room with the man who hit him. My son fought back and now is in jail. He is diagnosed Schizo effective with bi polar features. Who lives here in North Carolina.

I was a patient back in 2021 and I have never been in a psychiatric care hospital before. I had just lost my father. I was scared but soon realized that everyone was normal just like me. But the staff was the problem. They thought they were better than everyone and treated us like dogs. I was just freshly 18 too so I was put in a mixed gender unit. And I’m going to be simple but I am “attractive” and the men were indecent to me and they did nothing to stop it. I felt unsafe. The recreational therapy was good. But like a said before the staff is the problem. And my doctor. Doctor Raza, was the most uncompashinmte doctor I could’ve gotten assigned. I started to get dry skin that lotion couldn’t fixed and asked for a medicated one and he simply said “keep putting on lotion” but after discharging I found out I was allergic to the medication he put me on. If you ever need to go to a hospital and want good care and be treated like a human go to Sun Behavioral Health. I have been there ever since 2021 and it has helped me every time. I hope this place closes down or seriously reviews how the staff should treat the patients

I've been here at least 5 times. All my experiences were good. The staff was personable, getting to know you, listening to you, showing compassion, understanding, non judgmental, professional, friendly and knowledgable. It seemed like they were happy with their jobs, happy to be there. The Dr's are good. They sit with you for longer than Dr's at other places, they question in detail and actually listen. Then they are flexible with medication. And informative. The groups were engaging enough (for someone, with a.d.h.d) I was able to sit through them. And take some good suggestions for long term goals. I looked forward to the meals. Great food,, and good drink selection. Coffe and snacks were tolerable. Smoking is permitted for those of age. They had plenty of books, and my dad was allowed to leave me jigsaws. I would return here anytime, it is my preferred hospital.

As a person that was in this facility I felt not Cared for and seen. I couldn’t even see my family as much as I would have liked to. Some nurses were awesome the Night Shift of course and one leading tech Mrs. Silvia as well as Ms. Lyric and Mr. Keith. I respect all the techs that truly work 12 hour shifts because it’s not easy in a facility like this. It sucked to know this place was unorganized and really misunderstood my situation. They need people that truly care and will do their job to the outmost of their ability like Ms. Ana the Interpreter. This facility is just not right and never will go back again. Your supposed to truly learn to take care of your mental Health will being here instead I was getting traumatized because of the people that were in the wrong unit. I got transferred to unit 3 from unit 1 because I asked and my parents asked too. Unit 1 is horrible and as I was only experiencing anxiety and a bit of depression nothing big as people made it out to be. Some techs & nurses not the ones named were not professional. Also I don’t think that in my opinion unit 3 should have detoxing people that also traumatized me in a way. They should strictly have people that are there for minor reasons or specific reasons. They should be organized and respectful.

My 9 year old son was admitted for suicidal ideation. Not a single staff member introduced themselves. The staff seemed resigned to be there, but there was no compassion for my scared little guy. They also wouldn’t let patients leave their rooms to go to the restroom overnight. My son had to resort to going to the bathroom under his bed. I’m not sure what, if anything, my son received to help with his mental health. My son now has additional PTSD from his time at West Oaks.
