*Former staff member* I would not recommend Kingwood Pines to anyone! Staff treats patients as less than human and I was told by several nurses while working here to “Just ignore the patients. It’s what I do” When being asked by patients for basic human needs (like using the bathroom or asking for food/water!) I noticed a lot of staff members will roll their eyes and/or complain directly in front of the patient! 😢 There are a couple exceptions to this, (The children and adolescent units are in amazing hands!) but seeing the disrespect that the majority of staff treat their patients with was just absolutely heartbreaking. Not only this, but when patients would have seizures or pass out, it was very common for staff to claim the patient was faking!! While yes, sometimes a patient will fake or exaggerate their physical symptoms from time to time it is rare!! And nurses would claim patients to be faking their symptoms almost every time a seizure occurred or someone passed out! Very alarming behavior from staff and I am so glad to no longer be in this environment where patients are not being properly cared for. Very dehumanizing to patients and when I brought it up to supervisors, my worries were ignored. I would not recommend working here either! While there are a few amazing staff members whom I LOVED working with, a lot of them were miserable to be around. For context, I am a disabled individual and before being hired, I asked if I would be able to take short breaks to take my prescription medication and I asked if I could bring my water bottle on the unit to drink as water is crucial to my ability to be able to function! I was told that yes, I could take medicine breaks, and I rarely got them. I was told yes, I could bring my water bottle on the unit, and I got fired for it! It has been a couple months of me trying to get in touch with somebody to receive the paperwork saying they fired me and why, but I have yet to get any sort of response. Additionally, about 3-4 months during summer, there are 2 adult units that go without air conditioning every year. I’m not entirely sure if the hospital ever actually took any action to fix this issue, but seeing as it’s an annual problem I kind of doubt it. If I could rate this hospital 0 stars, I would! Hospital is complacent with its poor service. I love and cherish the few amazing techs, nurses and supervisors that work here, and I pray they never leave because they are certainly needed! If you or a loved one needs psychiatric care, please take them to West Oaks, Menninger, or Cypress Creek before ever even considering Kingwood Pines 💔

Please do not come here if you want to be helped. I came once during a bout of depression while I was visiting family and they thought they could help. I talked with a couple nurses, then my mother and I sat in the room alone for 2 hours with no contact from anyone while we were told we were waiting for a doctor. We got frustrated so got up to leave. As we tried to walk out, someone told the person at the door to lock the door and not allow us to leave. We had no idea what was happening. They locked us inside the facility and had me involuntarily committed, without reasonable justification. My mother was in tears as they dragged me away against my will. The female doctor I saw said she would keep me admitted if I continued to reach out to our lawyer, the nurses were cruel, I could go on and on. This was the most traumatic experience in my life, which is why I am posting this for all to see. I wish I could rewind time; I would have chosen to pursue a lawsuit against this facility to the fullest extent the law would allow. Since then, I have worked with exceptionally kind and professional mental health professionals…but this is not the place. They want to collect the insurance money, period. These people absolutely broke my heart.

I have a family member in Kingwood Pines. I tried for a hour and a half to speak with the nurse for my family member. We were given the wrong patient ID number when our family is member was admitted. So I was transferred to a person claiming to be the Charge Nurse for the facility, she yelled at me gave me phone number to call ( the phone number is not a working number) I still didn’t have the correct patient number. I asked what’s the patient’s ID number. She yelled at me and finally gave me the correct patient ID number. After continually calling wit no one answering the phone, I called back in and spoke with intake and finally a helpful person. I asked to speak with the House Supervisor. The House Supervisor was just as rude and hateful as the Charge Nurse. She was talking about another patient, and never bothered to apologize. I called back to intake and the same lady transferred me to speak with the Charge Nurse that is caring for the Patients in my loved ones housing area. I’m so sad that my loved one is in such a awful facility. You can tell they hate their job and have lost all compassion for anyone.

Please read these reviews!!! Listen to your gut and DO NOT bring anyone you care about to this place. Not anyone you love. This place is beyond horrible. There are a few great nurses and staff. Like really awesome, but unfortunately that doesn’t make up for everything thing else. The lack of professionalism is embarrassing. My son was there for 72 hours and never saw a doctor! 72 hours!!! He saw the same PA who just asked the same questions every single day. All they did was paint, play cards, chess and crosswords. That is pretty much what group therapy was. When I called to get his treatment plan I was given a generic answer. There is no plan. There is no help. There is meds given, including sleeping meds. No help. No therapy. Nothing. I decided to come check him out after 3 days of nothing. I was told that it was impossible. I had to remind them that he was a minor and I can take him whenever I want. And after that phone call, wouldn’t you know someone called me to discuss my sons “treatment plan”. Too Little too late. I was told I could not get my son. They also tried to take away his phone privileges so he couldn’t talk to me. When I finally got him on the phone, I told him to pack up that I would be there in a couple hours to get him. He told the nurse that he was leaving and the nurse said “We will see about that.” I had to threaten to have the police meet me there. I did talk to them and they said I could 100% check him out whenever I want. The fact I had to threaten to bring the police is a big enough red flag for you to please keep your family member out of here!

While most of the staff were great, there were a couple that made my stay terrible and made my condition worse than before I got in. First one of the ladies in unit 700 commented that disgusted me. She was pregnant and one of the patients asked what she named the kid. while it is 100% acceptable that she would prefer not to share, she said something like “I don’t share my kid's name with bad people, especially with y’all” and that’s an example, she made a lot of insensitive comments. Next, my doctor, Dr. Tai, seemed so uninterested in anything I wanted to say. Didn’t even bother to bring me to a private room, consultation took place in the hallway. I brought up my need for medication since they completely stopped the ones I take every day, and I was starting to feel the side effects. he said he would put back my medication, but he did not. I had to get the nurse to contact him at 8 pm to at least give me something to put me to sleep because he didn’t seem to take note of anything. The whole time I was there, I was not provided with the right medications. Other than that, the rest of the staff were amazing especially Lilibeth, Alex, Travis, and the beautiful lady who does the rounds on night shifts.

I was in this facility multiple times between 2015-2016. I honestly feel like this place provided such a great level of care. I was either on the 300 unit when my symptoms were really bad. Or, I was on the 700 unit when I was on a more functioning level. Anyways, I have come a very long way since my time in Kingwood Pines, but I truly feel like I received some of the best help available at one of the WORST times in my life. Not to disregard other’s experiences but I just don’t have a negative opinion of this place.

Will hold you way longer than they say they will, just to get the insurance it seems. They can’t give you any real solid answers when you ask why, and their answers will change every time you ask. All I can say is… if you or your loved one end up here… KNOW. YOUR. RIGHTS!!! And read up on the laws they must follow. They are definitely getting many state and federal HHS complaints. But I will say there is a very small handful of staff that is great. The rest are rude and unprofessional. Front desk staff, some of the nurses (mostly the nurses seemed nice), and even the nurse supervisors were incredibly unprofessional. I won’t name names here but trust me, don’t go find out for yourself.

This facility is not at all how they make it out to be on the website. I voluntarily checked myself in and didn’t get discharged until 10 days after. They told me to bring 3 pairs of clothing thinking I would be there three days but once I got behind those locked doors they wouldn’t release me. As long as my insurance was paying they kept me even though I was fine. I was told by staff that I could check myself out but Doctor Njuko and his assistant nurse Joy would not discharge me. They couldn’t even give me an answer on why they were keeping me although I knew it was about money from my insurance. This facility kept giving me the run around about not giving me my pain meds that I have been on for 5 years that are prescribed to me by my pcp and other doctors I have. I was off of my Rheumatoid arthritis injection for a week and they finally gave me my pain meds two days before I was discharged. I had flare ups because of it. This place is not fit for a dog!! They changed my doctor in there without referring with me and that doctor Akupo never came to access me so I don’t know how he would have any say so in my discharge. I will never go there again and I will not referral this place to no one. If I could rate it a -0 I definitely would. My mom and I called the number on the folder that I was given when admitted for complaints and no one reached out to neither one of us. But once I left this review the “Owner” responds. And asks for me to leave my information lol. Well I was a patient for 14 days I’m definitely sure that you have my information and my moms if you were concerned and wanted to contact me.

Serious lack of communication. Nobody at this facility knows what the heck is going on. Everyone says something different. They don't care to figure anything out about their patients. We asked a nurse from unit 600 about a certain kind of psychological evaluation. She was much more interested in lecturing us about nurses and their experience than she was in listening to our concerns and contextual background about our daughter. It seriously offended her that we asked about the therapist and the evaluation. It offended her so much that she completely disregarded anything we had to say. We only asked about the therapist because the psychiatrist told us that the therapist would speak with our daughter and contact us for further information regarding our daughter and what has been going on with her. Turns out they don't do that there. The psychiatrist in this case spent next to no time at all with our daughter, and got agitated when we tried to give important information relating to our daughter. Instead it's a jump to prescribing psychotropic medication. Gotta push those pills! Also, it is extremely difficult to get anyone to answer the phone anywhere with the exception of Nurse Jill and sometimes the operator. Nurse Jill is the exception by the way. She was helpful and not condescending - a pleasant enough lady. Long story short, don't send your kids here. Go somewhere more efficient like Cypress Creek or somewhere.

My 10 year old son has been in and out of acute in recent months at different places, wherever there is availability. This place was by far the best facility. The staff was so nice and actually seemed like they cared a lot. It’s been a week that my son has been home and he's done really well. I feel like the hospital got him on a great set of medications after years of trying to get it right at his psychiatrists office. Kingwood is over an hour from where we live but I am willing to drive because we had a really good experience with them. Thank you Kingwood Pines!

A family member was a patient there from January 3, 2024 to January 23, 2024 and was treated in an excellent manner. All of the staff from front desk, to Medical Director to Clinical Service Lead Case Manager were very professional and communicative, We have utilized Mental Hospitals before in Houston and this was the best experience we have encountered.

I saw a lot of negative reviews about Kingwood Pines. I was hesitant of bringing my child here. When we arrived everyone was really friendly and kind. My son stayed there for about a week. He said he enjoyed his stay and he received the care he really needed. When I would call to talk with my son to check on him they would always transfer the call. I can honestly say this place is nothing like the reviews I read. You can't believe everything you hear. In saying that no place is perfect but I can say kingwood pines helped my son. Thanks to all the staff and doctors! God bless each of you 🙏 ❤️

Update: So they wouldn’t let me out sooner when I had rent due. They said I would get help financially. Was told this many times and to talk to many different people. I did that. Tri-county had me reach out to local churches and such for money since government couldn’t help me. Still nothing. Had one month to make up 2 months of rent, my phone was cut off cuz I couldn’t pay. I can’t pay any other bills because I’m so behind on everything. They kept lying about when I would get out just to shut me up. I’m sick and tired. I went to this place for suicide attempt, and honestly things are much harder now because of this stupid hospital.

PLEASE LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS!!! I was here 4 months ago and they neglected and ignored me. I was having a panic attack and I ended up passing out and one of the other patients told me that the nurses WALKED BY ME AND DIDN’T DO ANYTHING. I wad crying and the “head nurse” told me to SHUT UP. Also they put me in a riom with a patient who was on bedlock meaning they are aggressive and is not allowed to share a room. PLEASE DONT SEND SOMEONE YOU CARE ABOUT HERE.

If I could give ZERO stars I would because this place does not deserve them. I was admitted 2-7-22 and was discharged on 2-14-22 my time spent there in the adolescent unit only 3 nurses were kind to us and the rest of the staff acted as if they wouldn’t even spit on us if we were on fire. Nurses faked my phone calls to my family my first 48 hours there and then threatened to “booty juice” me because I was aggravated after finding out. Group therapy is just us going into a room with a table and playing games and cards the whole time. Nurses were giving me medication that my mother didn’t approve and when I was having reactions to them they told me it was all in my head. If someone was to upset the night nurse we had she would take our phone calls away and sent us to bed early so “she didn’t have to deal with us”. Treatment plan was never discussed during my time there. Spoke with the dietitian and she’s flat out called me fat and had me put on a medication that made me throw up anything I ate and to later find out the medication she gave me wasn’t even for dietary reasons it’s for ADHD. This place is literally hell in disguise and I feel worse than when I was admitted but had to say all was fine so I could leave. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT send anyone you care about here they will not come home the same person you once knew!!!

My experience was pleasant. Mrs. Pam, Morgan, Sarah, Mr. Jacob, Adrian, Ernesto and Adam were all very kind and helpful. Esther was rude. I’m great full she was night shift. I was allowed to talk to my husband and children regularly and that was a huge problem I had with other places. Dr. Akpudo started me on meds that have helped tremendously. It felt like a weight was lifted and I learned a lot about how to be stronger and communicate better. Mrs. Pam’s testimony was powerful and very encouraging that we can get through anything if we take care of ourselves. Mrs. Adrian was an awesome and relatable therapist and I’ve tried and tried but haven’t found that before. Outside time was helpful. We did puzzles, games, painting and other fun activities and the teamwork and socializing with others and hearing about their troubles helped me to not feel alone in the place I was in with my depression, anxiety, ptsd and alcohol problem. They made me decent vegetarian meals and the kitchen staff was very nice. I gave them just 4 stars bc of Esther’s unnecessary rude behavior and poor communication about discharging times. Also, I think they should do more 1-1 therapy or smaller groups. Unit 500 was the best place to be. Thank you Kingwood Pines and staff for helping me during my difficult time!

One of the most disheartening aspects of our experience was the lack of empathy demonstrated by the staff at Kingwood Pines. Empathy is not just a desired quality; it is an essential tool for effective mental health treatment. It is through empathy that patients feel understood and supported, allowing them to open up and engage in their therapeutic journey. However, the absence of empathy from the staff demonstrated a disregard for the emotional wellbeing of the patients. Furthermore, we were disappointed by the lack of personalized treatment plans offered by Kingwood Pines. Each individual's mental health journey is unique, and a one-size-fits-all approach simply does not suffice. Tailored treatment plans, considering the specific needs and circumstances of each patient, are vital for effective recovery and growth. By failing to provide this personalized care, Kingwood Pines hindered my son's progress and limited his potential for positive change.

I was admitted here when I was 7 on Halloween of 2017 sent by tri-county and the Montgomery county sheriffs dept. My experience here was nothing but traumatizing, every single time in would cry, The nurses would shrug it off. Kids hurting themselves (for a lack of better words) and nurses being inadequately trained. It seems every time a kid tried to get the on-staff therapist the nurses would simply say "Not Right Now" numerous kids attempted suicide IN THE HOSPITAL, that is the ONLY time nurses would even glance at a patient, so over all, Please don't take you child here, For a Knowledgeful stranger, Please.

Just heard the story of your staff being I would say racist and classist to a patient. How is it that you make a woman who’s about to go into birth wait 24 hours in pain. Then when the woman complain multiple times to her nurse team that she was in pain the doctor still very rudely stated that she won’t be having this baby today. The doctor kept evading the responsibility and throwing the nurse on call or the nurse who was taking her of the mother under the bus. The doctor is supposed to over see everything and her attitude was just not it. That doctor is for sure not helping your already 200+ 1 star reviews.

My son was transported here by the sheriffs department in the evening. The next morning about 11:30 I went ahead and called in as I felt I should have heard from someone at the facility to go over intake, history, ect…I started by choosing the option for admissions but was ultimately transferred to multiple people with no resolve. I left my name and number with someone and was told I’d get a call back. Fast forward to the evening, still no call back! I call again, this time to be transferred to a unit from the operator. I stay on hold for over 20 minutes after explaining we have not heard from anyone and are gravely concerned considering he is on meds and no one has called to verify, go over things and most importantly, to get consent for treatments! The nurse I spoke with was extremely rude!!! She confirmed that no information was verified. They went off the information my minor child gave them (which was wrong AND manipulated). I want a call ASAP so I know what’s going on with my kid!!!!!

PLEASE READ!!!!! I have never dealt with a hospital staff that is so rude and snappy with the patient's family. They talk to you like you don't have any common sense. I understand there's rules they have to follow to protect the patient's privacy, however it seems the staff is fed up with their jobs and lack professionalism. Please do not send your love ones here. I would give them a -5 stars if the system would've let me!!!

My son was checked in a day later I get a call telling me he's been hurt, he "broke" his foot. I get to Kingwood hospital and that's not the case. His big toe was hanging on by a tendon. I asked the person assigned to sit with him what happened.... He responded I don't know I wasn't there. And from the conversation I had with the dude is that no one was watching the patients when a fight broke out and my son happened to be close enough for one of them to drop a solid wood table on his foot. The hospital made sure to get any records of my son being there gone in a instant so we couldn't sue them. It's worked cuz we tried for an entire year but the lawyer said that they couldn't find enough evidence from the hospital. Only that he was there from the paper work I had and what was from Kingwood hospital.

This place is terrible. The nurses are okay, but the doctors and therapists obviously don’t care much about releasing patients. You cannot leave until the doctor decides it’s okay. I only met me doctor once for 15 minutes. Place is bad news.

This place is the devil’s playground! Take your family members & RUN. These people are not professionals, patients lie on staff, they believe them, staff members betray you! Pure evil! I wouldn’t recommend this hospital to anyone. I was so disappointed & shocked how I was treated! Lord help them. Not all were like this, but 80%. This place need need new management. Although, I had great experiences with a few patients. I wish them well! Not loyal to their staff members. Admin were very unappreciated & staff underpaid. Not my final destination. Good luck. God Bless!

During my voluntary stay, I had a mixed experience how ever that was mostly due one bad apple on the tree, but after a complaint to the O.A. about the MHT/Prison Guard and a transfer of unit's my experience and care was a pleasant and proper stay and treatment was the best quality I could ask for. I would like to thank the Mental Health Technicians and the medication and charge nurses as will as the O.A. and recreation teams who are compassionate and understand how the healing process works and for how they help me recover in my time of need and helped me come back from years of depression and trauma. At first I was a little agitated, but I have come to realize I can not blame Kingwood pines for the actions of one person. Special thanks to Sarah, Mikey, Isiah, Jacob and Julie as well as Garry.

Not rating/star to give just yet so for now, will leave it at 1 Star. For someone that just had a family member sent there for assessment and evaluation, I am not comfortable about my loved one being here at this facility! Why isn't there any visitation? Do not have to be that hard on patients! It is scary enough to go through something and not have your family at bay!! I do not like what I'm reading/have read! This is horrible and this place sounds like it was a very bad idea!! I am praying, will be praying all night long that my family member is not kept her against their will and will be leaving very very soon!!!

Brought my son in hoping to get him help and to be safe because he becomes extremely violent. He was in this hospital for a week and I’ve pleaded to get him long term care and to be committed. Well, Erica is the receptionist that knows nothing and has no idea what’s going on but she’ll hang up on you if that’s more convenient for her. Felicia and Joshua will both lie straight to you and say, yes we’ll get him help and call you back. But they don’t. He was in your care this morning and now he’s on the side of the road at some gas station downtown Houston where he was just dumped off like an animal and he’s not even coherent enough to provide an address. This hospital has no regard for human life.

My wife was in this place for a few days. I carried her a carton of cigarettes last Tuesday, she got out on Friday. She got two packs from it. They kept the remaining eight packs, saying they were community cigarettes. I do buy for the community. They are thieves. She also said the staff was very rude and rough to her.

This is a horrible place!!! It is a prison not a hospital. Had a loved one here and I never spoke to the doctor. They don’t answer the phone at the nurses station most of the time. They threaten going to court if you want your loved one discharged. It’s a scam to collect insurance money. My loved one got worse here and I had to fight for days for release.

Attended Kingwood Pines once in January and another time in August this year. I can honestly say this hospital has the most caring staff I’ve come across. No judgment from them, only compassion. It sucked going to group every two hours and how cold the hospital is kept, otherwise, I have no complaints.

Was admitted here last year in the girls units. Nurses needed my blood drawn 2 times in 2 days because they lost my blood work.Clear bullying going on, nurses do not care. Took 6 hours to get admitted into the hospital, then pulled me to the side and asked me if I was sure I had attempted because my emotional state had seemed fine and they saw no marks on my neck.. while I waited 6 hours to even talk… put me on medication that made me feel like a zombie and once requested to switch the prescription did not happen. Was supposed to get out in 1 week of being there but ended up spending at least a month there due to poor communication issues. Would argue with me once I told them my call was messing up during at night phone time. Nurses would make the kids clean up everything, and if no one did they’d volunteer someone to do so. 0 one on one therapy time, only group sessions. Staff are absolutely horrible. Once they found out I had a vaping issue they said they would give me nicotine gum to sooth my urges, never got that so it just left me waiting. DO NOT take your kid here or admit yourself here it is more emotionally damaging

Please update the website.Let these patients and family know that visits have changed to once a week. Visitation time varies per unit they reside on. Make sure you correct all changes that are inconsistent with your site. My son has had no complaints I on other hand am a very overprotective mother. I had an issue upon entering with staff but was resolved. Other than the Majority of the staff was pretty nice getting me information and friendly about my phone calls to check on my child.

Kingwood Pines was absolutely the best resource of support my daughter and I have received in over 1 year of my daughters mental health journey. Even though she was visiting her dad in Texas when admitted and we don't live there mental health issues don't go away and they were very heartfelt and helpful and we learned so much about my daughters needs and now we have a solid plan in place and finally I feel we are on the road to recovery. Thank you to all the staff and angels at this facility. You have answered my prayers and have given our family hope and now I feel so much more prepared to beat this mental health crisis our youth is facing post pandemic. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! God speed!

If you are really in need of assistance for your love one. This is not the to take them at all. I brought my 71yr old love one to Kingwood Pines Hospital. As a last result do to them becoming physical and ironic behavior. I shared with the facility there had been a long ongoing mental illness for years. As well as the newest diagnosis was dementia possibly caused by a stroke and other factors. I left my love one there for treatment while explaining my love one has difficulties making decisions. I was told the doctor or the therapist would reach out to us. Days went by myself nor my family members never received a call. We got word from someone my love one reached out to. That our love one would be transferred to a group home. WOW a group how when where? We contacted the facility only to be told that the facility couldn’t release information to us. The therapist (ERICA) are the acting therapist for unit 500. N The therapist never returned calls and refused to speak with any family members. They held our family till the max stay the insurance would allow. Which was 14days after that she was released. The facility sent our loved one that we brought to there facility for treatment to a undisclosed group home. Mind you we had to pretty much convince them to do a admission. After it was shared we were bringing the family member in based on being a threat to themselves and others. As well the family member had dementia. Our family member was transported at night alone in a cab to group home. The staff at the group home turned her away and said they didn’t have any openings. Therefore our family member was turned around and left in the cold and rain outside wondering. We spent countless of hours trying to locate our love one. Kingwood pines failed to protect our loved one after we left our love one in there care. We took our family member there in hopes of help for someone we dearly love. Not to mention they contacted aps knowing the family member had a unstable mental and would fabricate things when upset. They definitely failed our family member. This was hurtful and beyond unacceptable and unprofessional. We are a caring family at least communicate with the family if you observed them doing the assessment for admission with there family. This is so unfortunate that often so many times people take jobs in professions that they could careless about. I choose to share our story in hopes to educate someone else. This place can easily turn into a nightmare. Seek help in other places. Evaluate the facility stay consist and don’t allow them to monitor your communication with your love one. It’s important to know who and what your dealing with at all times. Don’t trust these people just because they are in healthcare.

🫤 I am said to say that our birth experience was not at all what I hoped and expected it to be. Upon arriving, my husband and I were placed in the waiting room as we were told there were no rooms available. I understand that this is not something I should fault the hospital for, however it did impact...

🫤 My mother was life flighted here after having a large stroke. The doctors are wonderful. But, she received poor quality of care from the majority of the nursing staff. I was very disappointed in the care she received. Call light not being answered, she did not receive physical therapy even though it...

😠 Had to bring my mom for blood work because her vehicle was in the shop. She was on the second floor and my 5 year old and I were on the first floor in the lobby. The woman from the front desk approached and asked if we needed anything and then proceeded to say we had to go outside. No children allow...
