I attended a one-time-group class and enjoyed every minute of it. The community seems incredible and is very friendly, welcoming, and encouraging. It’s fun to see a successful local community gym! You definitely will not regret it if you sign up for a class, get a year pass, or commit to going every month to as many classes as you can. Everyone I talk to their raved about the instructors, their experience, and the different type of classes that are offered. It was also nice for me to have an outside gym experience during the pandemic, it made me feel more comfortable than I would inside. Great place!

HOUSTON FINALLY HAS A CALISTHENICS GYM! Mekanix was founded in 2017 as Houston's only gym focusing on calisthenics and bodyweight training. Have you seen those crazy street workouts on YouTube showcasing superhuman strength? If not, search up "BarStarzz," "Thenx," or "Calisthenic Movement" on YouTube to see what the human body is capable of. If you're looking for an intensity level between yoga and Crossfit, calisthenics is your best bet. Yoga focuses a lot on pushing, but it completely lacks any pulling. Crossfit focuses on all muscles groups, but it's so intense, it may injure you over time with its fast-paced movements and heavy weights. Calisthenics is the happy in-between, and it's something you can do for the rest of your life injury-free! It can give you the physique you want, the strength you desire, and it gives you the knowledge to be able to train anywhere with zero equipment. I started training at Mekanix in April 2018. I initially signed up for a 1-week membership for $25 to get a good feel for what the gym could offer me. After speaking with their head trainer, Gregory Scott, he informed me the training schedule works as follows: Monday - Pushing Tuesday - Pulling Wednesday - Legs Thursday - Pushing Friday - Pulling Saturday - Legs Sunday - Recovery The classes are set up in group exercises like a yoga or a Crossfit class. Every class I have gone to has been a small, intimate group ranging from 3-8 people total. This makes it easy to get one-on-one instruction from the teacher if needed. Class times vary each day, so the best way to keep track of the schedule is by downloading the MINDBODY® application to your phone. Group training classes typically start out with some light stretching and a warm-up. Depending on the workout, the classes can be held inside or outside utilizing their incredible rig setups (pull-up/dip bars and gymnastic rings) or nothing at all (circuit exercises working many variations of push-ups and other mobility exercises). There is other equipment used as well including parallettes, medicine balls, PVC pipe, plyometric boxes, and rubber bands. On Sunday, Mekanix's recovery day, they provide a handstand workshop (put together by handstand master, Jimmy Tran), a flexibility class, a breathwork class, and even contrast therapy. If you never heard of contrast therapy, this is where you consecutively expose your body to cold and heat repeatedly. At Mekanix, they provide ice baths at close to 32 degrees Fahrenheit and a dry sauna at close to 212 degrees Fahrenheit. I have tried this 3 times already with a lot of skepticism, but I can honestly say that my muscle soreness has vanished overnight with this therapy. I have been consistently going to Mekanix for a few weeks now, and I have definitely seen a major increase in strength and mobility. Gregory Scott is an ultimate calisthenics master, and it's been an absolute pleasure learning the movements from him. I have now signed up for a monthly membership, and I am very happy with my decision. If you're currently looking for a new athletic challenge, do yourself a favor, and sign yourself up. You will NOT be disappointed.

Athlete one: Hey how are you doing today? Athlete two: I just did a handstand. I'm LIVING! That's the kind of crowd you get at Mekanix. When I found Mekanix, I was looking for a gym where I could learn how to work out. I had never enjoyed the gym with machines because I always felt lost and confused as to what was effective. After joining Mekanix, I learned about proper workout movement, mobility, proper recovery and much more. The community is fantastic and very welcoming! The instructors are some of the friendliest and patient trainers around and they really take the time to show you the workouts. They also have amazing recovery classes with fire and ice (sauna and ice bath), mobility classes, and breathing exercises (much tougher than it sounds). Ten out of ten would recommend! Come check them out, you'll be glad you did.

Billing scam/shady billing practice/shady contract I have undergone a series of medical treatments, including 2 surgeries, from early March-August. I am physically unable to engage in the calisthenics workouts. Initially, I asked to pause my membership thinking I would return sooner, but since I ended up needing not 1, but 2 surgeries, I needed to extend my pause. I was told that I can’t extend my pause, regardless of my medical limitations. After trying to engage both the owner and the admin staff several times, they stopped responding to me, but continued to try and bill me. At the end of the day, they did not have my current billing info, and they would not be able to collect payment anyway… or so I thought. Somehow, they have somehow gotten my new debit card number and proceeded with charging me. There are many layers to how criminal, underhanded, contract violating, and illegal these business practices are. There’s not a fitness studio or gym in the USA that does not have language in the contract to protect medically vulnerable people. So Mekanix either has no empathy or compassion for it’s members, or they are actively in violation of/avoiding compliance with their contract I have no idea how they were able to get my updated card information and continue to charge me, but however legal or illegally that came about, they put more effort into that than into working with me as a client. Otherwise, I enjoyed my coach Henry and the other members are very, very nice. The facilities are very poor and unsafe for anyone with any sort of upper respiratory problems/sensitivities (which post-COVID, we all are). If you have any sort of asthma you will trigger an attack working out here. When not injured/sick, I’m a regular at Solidcore, RYDE, CycleBar, Black Swan Yoga, Body20, and I keep regular weekly tennis lessons at memorial. Mekanix costs more than each of those and some of them combined, but it’s definitely not worth the value. Especially knowing their business practices.

The place to be if you're looking to get into or advance your calisthenics skill set!! Such a fun and friendly atmosphere. The instructors do a great job at giving you personalized attention in a group setting and give your modifications and progressions based on your skills set. But wait! There's more - the recovery classes are so unique and not found in any of your traditional gyms. This is a whole package. Fire and ice as well as the flexibility and recovery classes complement the other classes so well! Love this gym, highly recommend! But don't take my word for it - come see it for yourself! Just come check it out, try even one class, you'll be so glad you did!!!

Best place to workout. I hace been lifting weights for years and more recently cross-fit, but I got bored. This is something different. You can quantify the progress much better, have much less risk of injury and you can focus more on the proper form rather than completing the WOD as quick as possible. The environment is super friendly and fun.

I used to do many exercises in my life, like weight lifting, bootcamps, crossfit, etc. to stay in shape and healthy. All of them worked well, but I'd say I'm staying the longest with Mekanix Calisthenics. What I like about this gym the most is a class with limited number of participants receiving trainer's full attention, for a full one hour. Because I'm using my body weight for most of workouts, I've not been suffering from injuries, and my body definition definitely improved. The only injury I got was while stretching. Moreover, the feeling that I can control my body better (being able to hold longer on a bar, get to handstand, pull/push up more) gave a boost to self-esteem and everyday energy. I haven't been eating healthy, but my friends already notice difference in shape. If proper eating is combined, I can't imagine more potential I can reach with Calisthenics. I have to say that the gym membership is more pricy than regular gyms with weights and machines. Also, this is not a gym if you're looking for a huge gain in a short period. I mean I'm sure you can get huge gain but the everyday program isn't necessarily designed for that. I joined it because a trainer and people are always there to share the journey and motivate each other. Not everyone like me is self-motivated on working out on his/her own and get to the goal. And my goal isn't necessarily to look muscular or get to a certain weight number. My goal is to be able to handstand and tumble on my own. It just helps me when I see fellow members struggling with the same goals and reach together. For that, the price justifies for me. I'm the one in yellow shirts.

I have been a part of many awesome gyms. I went to tour this gym this morning and i did not get a good impression at all. For one the owner (Justin) who has been eager for me to come in for a consultation. I walked in and he had me sit down and made it feel like I was at a job interview. He barely asked me any questions regarding my health and my fitness experience.. I was upfront that I was on a budget. Throughout the process he was asking me questions about my finances and to me it wasn’t relevant. I asked him a few times what packages do you offer. He refused to answer my questions and was just asking me what is my price range. I understand it’s a business and that it’s important to make sure you are making enough sales to keep the gym open. However, I have never been to a box/ CrossFit gym where they won’t give you 1 free complimentary class to see if you like it or not. Regardless if you can afford it or not as a coach and owner of a gym. It’s important to be there for your clients because we all have to start somewhere when it comes to bettering our health and fitness. At the end he basically told me based on my finances… I am not a good fit for this gym but luckily there’s gyms in this area that will offer me a better deal and told me that he appreciates the time I made to speak with him. He didn’t explain to me his experience as a coach/owner or what movements and exercises their goals m offers. He told me no history about their gym and that’s important. He was just more eager for me to join because I would just be another number added.. I was just shocked when I walked out of that gym because it was obvious he didn’t care. I have been to many gyms and this was the worst I have ever been treated.

Really enjoyed my class at Mekanix. To a newcomer, it’s always a mark of a good gym when the instructor seems to know everyone by name. Bailey did, and not only this, but she showed an impressive ability to dole out both thoughtful input for newcomers (like me) with light-hearted pushes for those with more experience as well. Won’t be my last class!

I would not recommend this gym! I have been part of many great gyms in the area. I went for a consultation a few weeks ago. I met with Justin who is the owner of the gym. He didn't take the time introduce himself nor give me a tour of the gym. He then asked series of questions in a weird fashion about my fitness experience and goals. It almost felt like I was being interviewed. It was to a point I had to excused myself to leave. Followed by, I was bombarded with text messages and emails to join the gym. I found Justin's approach to be unprofessional and discriminative.

Did a group Fire & Ice session yesterday at the Spring Branch location. I have never done Fire & Ice and had no clue what I was getting into. Afterwards, I felt so darn relaxed and AMAZINg and was singing in my car the whole way home 🤩. Justin, the owner, is really great and knowledgeable, the gym is super clean and the staff were all really friendly and kind. I love this gym concept and would join in 2 seconds, if I didn’t live in The Woodlands. If you decide to expand up North, I’ll be your first member! Highly recommend!

Overall a great experience. All the instructors are wonderful and spend time with modifying the workout for you if needed.

Tried the fire and ice sauna session at the Spring Branch location. I was not so sure about the ice part and mentally only planned to do the min. Of 15 secs but once in Justin did great taking us through breathing and relaxing and ended up staying way longer. The sauna felt great and so comfortable. The set up itself was super clean and well designed to easily Go back and forth between the two. I really appreciated that Justin took the time to explain the process and didn’t rush us through the experience but let us take out time and really enjoy the whole thing.

😠 This place is a disgrace. The two lat pull-down cables have been broken for over three weeks and they look at me like I’m crazy for thinking they should be repaired. Most of the other equipment is either broken or missing. Even at $15 per month, it’s too much.

👍👍 I have been coming to Fitness Connection since April and I'm glad to say that I lost 30 lbs. It's a really big and nice gym. The perk is that they have a sauna. This gym also have many machines and cool classes. The workers there are really nice and knowledgeable. This gym is a keeper.

😠 By far the worst maintained LA Fitness Gym I’ve ever been to. Most of the Leg workout machines been out of order for almost 3 months. They just stopped caring about fixing because the gym is always packed and they’re getting their monthly dues. Literally there’s just one machine for leg rise Workout...
