This is the worst industrial disaster in the history of the US. In 1947, French vessel Β Grandcamp loaded with 2300 tons of fertilizer (ammonium nitrate) blew up and destroyed most of Texas City and killing 581 people. Something very similar happened in Beirut in 2020. The force of the explosion threw a 2 ton anchor 1.5 mile up in the air. Here is a fact that will blow you away, the worst natural disaster, the 1900 Galveston hurricane took place less than 8 miles away from Texas City...talk about a place worthy of a Stephen King novel. Interestingly enough, the state history museum in Austin does not mention the Texas City disaster in its disaster wing....go figure...

One of the most detail memorials I've been too. It does a beautiful job memorializing those lost many years ago in a tragic accident. So many gorgeous statues, plaques and nice fountain. The memorial flows nicely from exhibit to exhibit. Just wow. All the artwork involved is mind boggling.

Great place to find information about the explosion in 1947. Lots of information. Lovely memorial to those that died then as well as a tribute to the fallen soldiers of the various Wars.

A great tribute, to the lives, that were lost, and to their families, and loved ones.

This notes a sad and tragic tragedy but was a really awesome way to show a memorial. And it looks like there's been many memorials since then with the different areas that are done. Was really impressed as a place to come park walk around and think. Going to suggest it in the Alvin area
