If I could give a minus -1 rating I would. My child has had Strep & Covid for over 10 days now. Returned to urgent care like instructed if symptoms lasted more than 6 days. Urgent care sent us to ER. Got there at 6:50pm, place was packed. At 2:52am after seeing 11 new families come in and get seen before us (no one bleeding or dying), I decided to calmly go up to the nurse and ask could they just give my child another Covid test. I don’t want to let him go back to school and possibly infect anyone else. They said the NP was on break and would help us when she was done. At 4:02am I informed the nurse we were leaving. Smh. This is the worst experience I’ve ever had at Texas Childrens or any hospital. Patients should be seen in the order that they arrived, unless it’s a life and death situation.

Urgent care closed early because of the holiday so we decided to try the ER with our sick 2 year old. 8 hours later it's 4am and we're still waiting to see the doctor. Everyone here is very polite and helpful but whoever is in charge of staffing deserves to be fired. The waiting room is full of suffering children and exhausted parents who have been here all night with us. Parents who are about to have to go to work on zero sleep all so Texas Children's can save a few dollars.

Checked in at 4pm, checked out at 6am 14 hrs. Way too much for an emergency room, never in my life have I experienced this long wait. Staffing was friendly, kind and caring along with Dr and X-ray technician. At the end of the day even though they are a great staff they are overworked and process needs to change to acomódate patient visits better. I felt bad for all poor children who along with us were there for this much time. Never again will I visit nor recommend if you are in a fast need of care.

Looking at all the previous reviews, there is clearly a trend of horrible management and care delivery at this center. We are absolutely disgusted and appalled at the incompetent level of care and disrespect we received at this center today. Having worked with other TCH network locations and providers for decades, it was so disappointing to see how select nurse staff and their lead administrator of the emergency center handled our case. If you have a child in need of immediate medical care, I urge you not to even consider coming here. Please go to another location for your child’s own safety, adequate care, and respect to you. This center and the incompetent staff we dealt with do not exemplify the promised values of Texas Children’s Hospital. Our child was brought in at 1pm because of dehydration and a requested order by his pediatrician (who is a TCH pediatrician) to receive immediate IV fluids. We received no care for a total of 4 hours. During this time, we requested multiple nurses and admin to attend to our son given his declining status. His fever was shooting up and he was going in and out of consciousness. Despite informing everyone on the floor about his condition, we were rudely told by their charge nurse that there is nothing they could do. We had to be the ones to ask for any type of medication let alone the fluids he needed to be given. Absolutely nothing was given for 4 hours. They gave a fever reducer after us practically begging them to do so. After seeing our son in this position and getting no response from the staff, we asked to speak with the doctor and find out what was going on. They were extremely rude, disrespectful, and had no interest in helping our son or the situation. It was as if they were being forced to care for our son. The lead administrator tried to threaten us and shut down our legitimate questioning by bringing in their security simply because we asked them to provide an update on seeing the doctor given our son’s faltering state. Asking for more information after 4 hours of neglect is not a security problem. We were in fact told by our nurse to stop asking questions and bothering her while our son was suffering. What kind of indecency and unacceptable patient care is that? Shows how they could care less about doing the right thing and instead try to cover up their malpractices and inefficient processes. Towards the end when it came to us being discharged, it almost seemed like they were deliberately not coming to take his IV out. It took 1.5 hours to get discharged after the doctor gave the green light. This is complete patient negligence and an attempt of using intimidation and threats to shut down basic patient rights and privileges. We plan to file official complaints with TCH along with the Texas department of Health regarding today’s experience. We did speak with the on-site patient advocacy representative who empathized with us and said she would write a report. I hope this review allows other families to get the care they deserve elsewhere.

Waited 3 hours in the lobby then 1 hour in the room before ever seeing the attending nurse. After another hour in the room and not even seeing a doctor, we walked out. Went to a smaller ER today and was seen immediately. Stay away if at all possible. Smaller ER's are so much better. 5 hours total and walked out without even being seen by a doctor at Texas Children's.

I visited this center on 10/7, checked in at 9:30pm as my 8months old baby was having a fever of 105-106, and left frustrated at 5:30am after waiting 8-9 hours without getting to see the Doctor, the deaths during covid has hardly made any impact on the management of these hospitals, Its unbelievable and ironical to see the emergency services in developing country are so much better than US, the name “Emergency” Room is a joke, it should be named “Waiting Room”, we were only the parents trying to check with the triage nurse every hour to see when can we meet doctor, there were so many parents who have become numb with this system, I feel sad! I hope some genius will create a efficient ER process is all have to say!

This experience has been the worst. My daughter was seen by a nurse practitioner who’s main focus was just to rush us out. I had to push for tests, which once she had the results she very loudly revealed the results in the waiting area instead of at least pulling us aside or using a more appropriate volume.. the worst part though, she told us my daughters chest X-ray was clear and quickly discharged us.. not only did she rush out of the ER after that. But once the Results posted to MyChart I found out that my daughter’s X-ray results are NOT clear. This all resulted in my daughter struggling with her breathing and having to contact another place for medical assistance. I would have much preferred to wait even longer and actually get attended by an actual professional.

We checked in at 12:30am and didn’t get back to our room until almost 5 o’clock am. My child had a fever of 104.6 and they gave tylenol. Fever went down to 99.9 when we got back to our room. It took them 30 mins to come in to even start looking at my daughter. Wanted to do a catheter but too almost 15 mins and two doctors to even get it in correctly. Took almost an hour to get back results and they wanted to send us home because they couldn’t do anything else. Her fever was at 102.4. Worst experience, hospitality, and bed side manners. They barrage into your room not even caring if your child is sleeping. Don’t want to test for everything they need to. They want to take the easy way out to make the money fast. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

Don’t ever take your child here if you’re on Medicaid. Was treated horribly!!! And they did not listen when I told them my son has eczema. They continued to put bandages that he was sensitive to. I wish I could give them a zero!!!

1 star is being generous to this place. My wife took my 1 year old in with RSV and a lower oxygen level and they made her sit and wait for 8 hours. There is absolutely NO reason why any child should be waiting this long. Either they are severely understaffed or they just don't actually care about helping children. Either way, this place is an absolute disgrace and I would never trust them to take care of my children ever again.

Came twice because theyre "backed up". First time i was here for 9 hours, second ive been here for 6 hours and counting. My son is 6 mts and has been having diarrhea for the last 3 days but because he doesnt have a fever its not severe. Hes dehydrated and they wont do nothing. All those nurses but they continue calling the same 5 people who have clearly left for the last 3 hours. Nurses are rude. They say they care about childrens health well how is my son not an emergency?

Might as well wait to see your child’s pediatrician. Waited 5 hours with my kid having an extremely bad fever and he kept screaming in pain that his head was hurting. Didn’t get to see a Doctor because when I went up to ask for an ETA they told me it would be another 6 hours of waiting. So I would’ve been in the ER for 11 hours but I decided to leave since I had work at 4 am. This was my first hospital experience (my kid rarely gets sick) and it was HORRIBLE. THIS IS NOT AN EMERGENCY ROOM, it’s just a WAITING ROOM.

Ridiculous. I understand people are sick. I understand it’s an ER for children. I don’t think the staff understand this. Besides waiting for three hours and not being seen (left around 12:30pm), one of the vital check nurses gave a “hand” towards my child’s face (he was talking while we were talking) as in saying “stop the talking” while giving THE MOST RUDE FACE to him. I didn’t say anything to her but we removed ourself from the situation because best believe, if I did say something to her, they would of kicked us out of the that freaking ER place. ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. Extremely UNKIND and stupid whether there is a sick child or not, you pay RESPECT to everyone in that building. ESPECIALLY the sick patients.

Before we went to the ER, we called the parent advice line and never received a call back. In the meantime, we had decided to go to the ER anyway. We were there from 8:00 PM until 1:30 AM. It was an absolute zoo. When we were leaving they did not communicate to us that we needed to have a follow up appointment with a specialist or why. The specialist called us the next day. It was quite a surprise. We finally had that follow up appointment today and discovered that we had a positive urine culture in the ER!! No one from the emergency room ever called us to let us know about that or that there would be an antibiotic for it. Luckily, my son did not get very sick from an untreated UTI and it had seemed to resolve itself. At least that’s what the specialist said. We had an ultrasound while we were in the emergency room and the tech left us down the hall. We had to look for someone else to use their employee badge to let us out of the MRI/ultrasound area so we could get back to the waiting room. When the physician came into the room instead of telling us right away, that our test results for the ultrasound were normal, she made me explain what was going on. I understand that she needs to know all the details, but she could’ve told us the test result was normal -1st, to relieve our fears. Poor treatment and poor follow up. The nurses were running around, busting their butts as usual and I have no complaints about them.

Now I understand why this hospital has 1 star review. I been here since 7am , my daughter had a high fever for 4 days si thinking that it was going to be faster to be seen at the ER I refused to wait until urgent care opened, well by 10 am everyone who was there before me wasn't there...everyone who came after me were going in, so at 12pm I went and asked how much longer it was going to take, the lady said you are the longest wait(are you freaking kidding me!!!) I was there at 7am and I'm sure it wasn't going to take long to check where my daughter had an infection, I just wanted the prescription so we could go. Well since I was the longest wait I though another 5 hours??..WHAT MADE ME MAD IS THEY DONT FREAKING COMMUNICATE!!! THEY SHOULDVE TOLD ME SINCE THE BEGINNING OR AS SOON AS THE MOTRIN THEY GAVE HER WORKED THAT I WAS GOING TO BE WAITING FOR HOURS SO I COULD DECIDE IF I WANTED TO WAIT OR NOT, MAYBE IF I HAD A CHANCE TO BE SEEN AT THE URGENT CARE AS SOON AS THEY OPENED AND BE THE FIRST ONE TO BE SEEN SINCE THEY DO FIRST COME , FIRST SERVE...BUT NO COMMUNICATION AT ALL!!!after all this I exploded and left...this hospital is ridiculous!!! Don't take your kids there unless you want to wait 5 plus hours!

Waited in the lobby for almost 7 hours , as I set on the lobby I can see the girls at the desk just giggling and making fun a patients name. I tried to speak to a nurse about my daughters wait time she rudely Brushed me off and just asked give me a last name I did and noone still hasn’t reached out. This place is terrible and how Long the wait it here terrible. Just excuse after excuse. Don’t bring your child too this place

I would give it negative 10 rating for this Texas childrens Emergency care - the worst ER I have ever seen - I had to wait more than 10+ hours and still not able to get the admission done . Getting to triage team would take as close as 2 hours. Worst nightmare with this Texas children ER hospital - will never ever recommend anyone anytime my lifetime. Need to say Memorial Hermann Hospital was a life saver when it comes to both Adults and Pediatric Emergency care services. Thanks once again to Memorial Hermann Hospital groups.

Take your child elsewhere. Plan and simple. If your child is not dangling between life and death then they will not care. They don’t have enough beds. Useless people wait time is never disclosed. It’s a suspense for at least 8-10 hours

I had an incredibly frustrating experience at the emergency center due to excessively long wait times and abysmal customer service. The wait was unbearably long, stretching my patience to its limit. The customer service center was unhelpful and unsympathetic, adding to my distress during an already stressful situation. The lack of efficiency and empathy from the staff made an already difficult situation even worse. I would strongly advise against relying on this emergency center for prompt and compassionate care. The extreme worst part was the ugly attitude of the RN “Kathryn” who had the audacity to be ignorant.

This is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS and FRUSTRATING! I arrived 14:30 with my 15 months old daughter at the Emergency Center at Texas Children Hospital with a seizure that last probably around 10 minutes. It is now 8:46PM and NO ONE, NO ONE is able to tell us if my daughter will be checked in 10 minutes or in the next 6 hours. It is simply unbelievable how a Hospital treats a baby this way…we don’t want to leave as we don’t know what caused the seizure and we are concerned if happens again. I would expect a bit more respect from a Hospital that publicizes how much they care about our kids. Do they?

Here's a novel thought: try having the accurate wait time displayed for everyone to see, that way you aren't forcing people to wait 6-8 plus hours just to not even have a doctor see their sick child. After 3 hours I left, however the woman next to me had been waiting since 3:15pm for her son, and it's now 10:45pm. It's just wrong on so many levels to force people to wait with sick and crying kids for that amount of time. If you guys were upfront and honest about how long the wait times were. It would help us make better choices on where to seek out care for our babies.

Been here since 7:45pm and it is currently 1:20 am. I asked how much longer and they couldn’t give me a time frame. They stated so many people were ahead of me and they can’t move any faster bc they don’t have enough rooms. This is so ridiculous. My child has been in pain for hours. I read the reviews before coming and thought “it can’t be THAT bad” but it is in fact that bad. There’s no reason my sick child should be waiting more than 5 hours just to be seen. I would have left but the urgent care we saw before this suggested he be tested for meningitis. I refuse to play with my sons health as that is very serious. You would think they’d take that more seriously seeing as it is can be spread through cough and we’re sitting in a waiting room filled with many other children and adults.

I first took my 10 m old son to urgent care around 10:40pm(which I checked they close by 11pm), they don’t accept patients after 10:30pm in urgent care due to close to closing time and they advised me to go to the emergency room. I went in the ER to check in, lobby was full, nurses checked vitals 10 minutes after check in, and called into the exam room after that. My son had respiratory distress. They gave him oxygen and treated him with other meds as well.. I was surprised that I was called in so fast before the other patients in the lobby.. they did told me since he’s in respiratory distress he needed to be seen as soon as possible. Overall my experience here had been great, it just took them 8 hrs for us to get a room in the main building. They treated my son well and he’s able to breath better, eating again and playing.

My son received the best care at Texas Children's Hospital West Campus Emergency Center. Beyond thankful to everyone who worked with us during our ER visit (everyone who performed and read the results of the ultrasound, x-ray, and CT scan, all of the nurses and doctors), especially thankful to Brandon Visneau and Amanda Hedges, who noticed a lymphatic malformation in my 3y.o son's abdomen that we hadn't known about before. Dr. Brandon answered all my questions in a way that was easy to understand. Further, we got admitted to the hospital, where we were connected with the best specialists to continue the treatment.
