TheĀ Sundarbans National ParkĀ is aĀ national park,Ā tiger reserve, andĀ biosphere reserveĀ inĀ West Bengal, India. It is part of theĀ SundarbansĀ on theĀ Ganges Delta, and adjacent to the Sundarban Reserve Forest inĀ Bangladesh. TheĀ deltaĀ is densely covered byĀ mangroveĀ forests, and is one of the largest reserves for theĀ Bengal tiger. It is also home to a variety of bird, reptile andĀ invertebrateĀ species, including theĀ salt-water crocodile. The present Sundarban National Park was declared as the core area of Sundarban Tiger Reserve in 1973 and a wildlife sanctuary in 1977. On 4 May 1984 it was declared a national park. It is aĀ UNESCO World Heritage SiteĀ inscribed in 1987,[2][3]Ā and it has been designated as aĀ Ramsar siteĀ since 2019.[1]Ā It is considered as a World Network of Biosphere Reserve (Man and Biosphere Reserve) from 1989. Credit wekipedia The first forest management division to have jurisdiction over the Sundarbans was established in 1869. In 1875 a large portion of the mangrove forests was declared asĀ reservedĀ forests under the Forest Act, 1865 (Act VIII of 1865). The remaining portions of the forests were declared a reserve forest the following year and the forest, which was so far administered by the civil administration district, was placed under the control of the Forest Department. A forest division, which is the basic forest management and administration unit, was created in 1879 with the headquarters inĀ Khulna, Bangladesh. The first management plan was written for the period 1893ā€“1898.[4][5] In 1911, it was described as a tract of unexamined waste country and was excluded from the census. It then stretched for about 266 kilometres (165Ā mi) from the mouth of theĀ HugliĀ to the mouth of theĀ MeghnaĀ river and was bordered inland by the three settled districts of the 24 parganas,Ā KhulnaĀ andĀ Bakerganj. The total area (including water) was estimated at 16,900 square kilometres (6,526Ā sqĀ mi). It was a water-logged jungle, in which tigers and other wild beasts abounded. Attempts at reclamation had not been very successful. The Sundarbans was everywhere intersected by river channels and creeks, some of which afforded water communication throughout the Bengal region both forĀ steamersĀ and for native ships. The maximum part of the delta is located in Bangladesh.

Avoid them, they aren't ethical. I booked a guide for a day, for this itinerary: 1. Victoria Memorial 2. St. Paul's Cathedral 3. Old Chinatown 4. Magen David Synagogue 5. Armenian Church of the Holy Nazareth 6. Jorashanko Thakurbari They asked for Rs. 2,200 for the guide for this itinerary. I didn't bargain, paid the advance. The guide turned out to be a novice. Didn't know anything. What actually happened: 1. St. Paul's Cathedral 2. Victoria Memorial 3. Jorashanko Thakurbari. The guide didn't know which place-pin to put for the taxi drop, the taxi driver corrected us en route. The guide didn't know when Rabindranath Tagore was born or when he died or what he died of, or what he was renowned for. 4.. Magen David Synagogue: a 1km walk guided by Google Maps. Was closed when we got there. Our guide was flummoxed. 5. Armenian Church of the Holy Nazareth. Was closed. Has been closed since the COVID Lockdown in 2020! The Ryask team took my booking without telling me this! Useless is a compliment. They are unethical. I complained to Ryask on WhatsApp: Me: You should have told me that the Armenian Church was closed. Ryask: yes closed but you can visist from outside! Me: the guide doesn't know much. We were hoping for a knowledgeable guide to improve our experience of Kolkata. Ryask: sorry for the inconvenience! Xxxxx is under training of west Bengal tourism official guide program. Me: you have cheated me. Ryask: what? where we will be cheat you? we are given our service to you! itinerary is provide by you sir. not by us! you never mention, that you need senior historical guide for todays visit! , that time we won't take this booking! as no senior guide is available today! Me: You should have told me that the "guide" you provide would not be able to guide us. Ryask: he is guiding regularly as a general guide. This means that Ryask knowingly provides novices as paid guides, and doesn't care about ethical behaviour. Avoid them.

Known for hosting the biggest mangrove forests in the world, Sundarbans National Park is located in West Bengal, India. It is also a Tiger Reserve and a Biosphere reserve that provides a complete nature's circle to the tourist right from 'Royal Bengal tigers' to roaring rivers and beautiful estuaries. Sundarbans National Park is a part of Sundarban delta that is covered with Mangrove Forest and the largest population of the Bengal Tigers. It is a UNESCO world heritage siteĀ with a large variety of birds and reptiles including salt-water crocodile. Shared between India and Bangladesh, the Sundarbans meaning beautiful forest, have been declared a UNESCO heritage site. This area has a silent charm that manages to amaze one with the simplicity and naturalness of its ecological balance in spite of offering habitat to some of the most dynamic and awe-inspiring flora and fauna. They are in fact the last remaining stands of the mighty jungles which once covered the Gangetic plain and the sustainability of this natural structure is pretty majestic. Since 1966, the Sundarbans have been a wildlife sanctuary, and it is estimated that there are over 400 Royal Bengal Tigers and about 30, 000 spotted deer in the area. This forest has the largest number of Sundari trees. Sundarbans epitomize wilderness with its meandering rivers, springs, creeks and estuaries. It is a declared Tiger Reserve, home to the Royal Bengal Tiger- an almost extinct species who swim in the saline water and are often man-eating varieties. Other endangered species in the Bioreserve are Batagur baska, King Crabs, Olive Ridley and Turtle. You can also find the jungle fowl, giant lizards, spotted deer, wild boar and crocodiles in these forests. The Siberian ducks are another famous attraction here. Besides this, there are over 64 varieties of Mangroves such as Goran, Genwa, Dhundal, Garjan, Kankra, Sundari and Passur. Make sure to hit the Nilkamalor Hiron Point and Katka viewpoints that offer fantastic views of animals in the wilderness. Also, enjoy the mud-flats called Chargheri Char where you can enjoy coastal trekking.

The Sundarbans mangrove forest, one of the largest such forests in the world (140,000 ha), lies on the delta of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers on the Bay of Bengal. It is adjacent to the border of Indiaā€™s Sundarbans World Heritage site inscribed in 1987. The site is intersected by a complex network of tidal waterways, mudflats and small islands of salt-tolerant mangrove forests, and presents an excellent example of ongoing ecological processes. The area is known for its wide range of fauna, including 260 bird species, the Bengal tiger and other threatened species such as the estuarine crocodile and the Indian python.

Sundarbans, one of the top tourist places in West Bengal, has a magnificent tangle of mangrove jungle that's the largest in the world.. The Indian part is made up of 102 islands and just over half of them are inhabited. The Sundarbans is only accessible by boat and exploring it this way is a thrilling experience that shouldn't be missed. Don't be hopeful of seeing any tigers though. They're very shy and usually remain well hidden in the reserve.

Did a sunderban trip with ryask team. Due to infrastructure challenges the Delta remains a holiday where organising everything to the best of satisfaction is a challenge but the team showed punctuality, professionalism, ever helping attitude and eagerness to make your stay comfortable and easy. Good handling of kids & senior citizens. If they can handle sunderbans with so much ease others trips would be a cakewalk.
