If you’re a lover of art, there’s a pretty good chance you’re also fond of architecture. The Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts does not disappoint in either regard (in my opinion, of course). Located on Pho Duc Chinh Street, District 1, HCMC Museum of Fine Arts’ Art Deco architecture grabbed me as soon as I entered the vicinity. The entrance fee of 30,000 VND was also a pleasant surprise. A quick Google search revealed that the museum was previously the family mansion of a certain Hui Bon Hoa, a wealthy businessman originally from the Fujian province of China who made his money in real estate and pawn shops. The museum is composed of several buildings (I only visited 2 or 3). The main building (the one immediately after the gate where you pay the entrance fee) housed many valuable Cham, Indian, and Khmer artifacts made between the 7th and 17th centuries (I didn’t know Hindu culture reached Vietnam). On my way to the second floor, I was treated to the sight of a wooden box elevator, supposedly one of the first in Saigon, and fine stained glass. The second and third floors consist of 19th and 20th-century art, influenced mostly by traditional rural life and the many wars that the country experienced during those times.

Come for the art but also enjoy the gorgeous buildings. Was pleasantly surprised by the art in the museum. I am new to Vietnamese artist so it was nice to learn more names and see their styles and experience the nicely curated exhibitions of 4 local artists. I Would like to see more information on the other various artist but over all it was interesting . The museum is made up of 3 buildings. The 1st building contains most of the paintings and many sculptures. The middle building is for special exhibitions and the 3rd contains antique, ceramics and bronzes… don’t miss the stair well in the 3rd building … and IG dream photoshop location. The builds have a lot of character and I would consider them a work of art as well. Cost is 30,000 Please Note - Only a few of the gallery rooms have air conditioning so it’s quiet warm. (Yes, we were sweating by the end of it) - Unsure there are working elevators to the various floors. - We came on a weekday and it was not that busy BUT there were still at least a dozen people doing photo shoots vs looking at the art. I am guessing on weekends it would be even more.

The museum has many interesting exhibits included women artists’ art products. I recommend you visiting and spending a couple of hours to go around different floors if you are an art & history lover.

I certainly enjoyed visiting this museum and its many interesting exhibits but was disappointed that there was so little information to guide me to the various exhibits or explain their connection to Vietnam’s rich cultural history. It seems that little has been done to turn this into the showpiece it should and could surely be. Regardless, I highly recommend visiting and suggest that it’s a terrific bargain any roughly $1.50 for its entrance fee. Plan to arrive early to avoid the heat as it is sparingly ventilated and air conditioned only in a few spaces. Meanwhile, for any who find this museum attractive and meaningful I strongly recommend the National fine arts museum in Hanoi, as well as

One of the most amazing set of surviving French buildings in the city. You're immediately transported back to a bygone era, with beautiful stained glass windows, tiled floors and eleborate staircases. The work of a wide range of Vietnamese artists is on display, along with some photography and historic artifacts in the other two buildings. There's enough here to keep you busy for a good few hours. Somewhat marred now on one side by the erection of a monstrous concrete block, which is completely out of place with all the local architecture and squats on the landscape like some towering behemoth, but I'm sure it'll make some people very rich so that's all that matters hey?

Great art work from different periods of time, and some new works were presented when I joined the second time. The area with national treasure is very nice, and well introduced so that we learned about great Viet artists. Definitely will go there frequently to check out the new artworks. The design and architecture of the building is also unique and it brings old time vibes.

What a fantastic experience. I thought I'd be here for an hour or two. I spent 4. The contents and the buildings that house them are spectacular. Was a bit put off by the number of people taking up space taking selfies. Shame. Always having to ask them to excuse so you can enjoy the museum. There should be a regulation on this. Should not be missed!

The first day in Saigon and we got to check out this beautiful building. I am so happy to see many beautiful art displays in a rare building in the middle of modern glass tall buildings. Location is very convenient. There was an exhibit going on, which we couldn't get in due to sold out. But I was happy to just walk around this place and enjoyed all the beautiful art pieces and views. Highly recommend!

A beautiful place that stored paintings and sculptures. But here’s a bit hot, and a bit crowded who would like to shoot the beauties’ photos 😅 Still nice to have a look then. No need to buy a ticket at the first place, you just need to go to the front room and pay 30,000.

I'm not a huge art fan but I really enjoyed a few hours here. There's three buildings with multiple floors full of art. Lots of different types and lots of beautiful pieces. Beautiful collection of fine art paintings which span decades and artists, providing an intimate understanding of the Vietnamese people, their personal and communal struggles and pleasures. A wonderful way to enjoy your visit to Ho Chi Minh City!!

A wonderful building from old times. I liked it better than the exhibition. Sorry. A must visit for tourists but an hour IA enough. The ticket costs 30 k. There's no queue and no many people at 4 p.m.

Amazing experience! There are 3 buildings with different themes. Expect to walk around a lot and enjoy the vintage vibe of this museum. Entrance fee is 30.000 for adults and 15.000 for students, which is not bad. Tip: bring water and a fan. It’s steamy inside with only 2-3 rooms with AC.

A lot of nice artworks and paintings through the centuries and epochs of history. The building rounds up the flair you wanna meet when visiting such a place. Small narrow hallways, thematically separated rooms with direct and indirect lightning. Don't miss the other two buildings! Second one is currently under renovations.

A beautiful and rather small collection that feels more intimate compared to the other notable museums in south east asia. The estate is not in great condition, and i really wonder about the condition off these artworks considering they are exposed to the hot and humid air. So bring enough water since it can be warmer inside than out.

This should be one of the Top 5 places for tourists to Saigon. A gem of French architecture, a priceless collection of fine art, beautifully curated, and a garden of sculpture. We came across this haven of shade and culture as we sought refuge from the heat. A venue for wedding photographs and Instagram beauties, this is a city treasure and Vietnam at its best.

📍Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts Ticket 30.000 VND If you have an interest in art and culture, the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts could be an interesting place to visit. The museum showcases a rich and diverse collection of Vietnamese art, including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and other artworks from various historical periods. It can be an enriching experience to learn about Vietnam’s artistic heritage. So, if you’re interested in art, I recommend visiting the museum. The Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts can be a good photo spot, especially if you appreciate art and architecture. The museum’s exterior features interesting architectural details, and the interior houses beautiful artworks that can serve as picturesque backgrounds for photos. Additionally, the museum’s courtyard and surrounding areas may offer opportunities for capturing unique shots. However, it’s always a good idea to check photography policies and be respectful of the museum’s rules and other visitors while taking photos.

This was the best day of my trip to Ho Chi Minh. The museum was amazing. So much of Vietnam's history is documented in art form. The staff was amazing and knowledgeable. I highly recommend you visit the place and go through all three buildings.

Beautiful faded grandeur, incredible french colonial architecture and lots of character. Brilliantly diverse exhibits showing off a multitude of fine works from artists both domestic and international. Final building shows centuries old artistic antiquities.

Museum set in an old French colonial era mansion. Just sufficiently maintained in the main areas so that it is not dilapidated. Only a few rooms had air-conditioning, which made it a tiring experience for the visitor and probably the artwork alike. There were several stunning pieces, particularly in their lacquered works area. For the price of 30k (under $2), it is amazing value even if only visited for 30 mins

In one corner of the museum, there was a work showing the human tragedy caused by war. The paintings that told the stories of innocent victims broke my heart and made me deeply understand the tragedy of war. Additionally, there were works that symbolized the end of war and peace. These works conveyed messages of hope and reconciliation, emphasizing human strength and the virtues of cooperation. While appreciating these works, I had time to think deeply about the seriousness of war and its impact.

You have to pay some money (very cheap) to visit there. If you bring a professional camera, you will be required to pay more. The architect is very antique and nice designs. I love paintings and its style. It's a good place to take shooting. Very luxurious and genius.

Museum of fine art is a very great place to visit. It is a very old museum located in the centre of the Ho Chi Minh City. You will find so many good spots to take photos. The architecture is from France after Vietnam war and it is kept until today. This restaurants display all art pieces from great Vietnamese artist during that period. It told us about the history of this land and its development. It will open during weekdays and weekends. The ticket is cheap and you can stay here all day if you want. DSLR camera is allowed here with a service charge for taking photos, only mobile phone is free of charge.

A good place to enjoy painting and sculptures. The museum buildings are colonial architecture. The First building exhibits art works of famous Vietnamese artists graduated from College of Fine Arts and Gia Dinh School of Fine Arts before 1975 and a collection of modern art after 1975. The Second one exhibits art works and personal collection. The Third one exhibits many sculptures and antique. There is a coffee shop within the museum where you can order drinks ( they also serve juice) Visit hours: From 8 AM until 5 PM throughout the week. Ticket price: 30,000 VND (15,000 for children). Parking: 5,000 VND for motorcycle.

Worth a visit. The buildings themselves are quite gorgeous, and there are some beautiful art pieces. The pictures do not do them justice, you really have to see them in real life to appreciate how beautiful they are. I did feel that the rooms lacked cohesion, which could have been better explained or presented. The most interesting rooms were those either that were gifted through patronage or those from very famous artists. It could also use older art pieces (maybe to be recovered or donated?). Finally, AC or some type of way to regulate the temperature and humidity level would be great. I'm pretty sure the art on display is taking a hit over time due to poor temperature control. This museum has the potential to be so much more, and I hope to see its growth in the future.

The Museum displays beautiful contemporary and wartime artworks as well as some national treasures. Considering many of them were created hundred years ago and survived the deadly war, I appreciate the talent of the artists and the various art techniques they used even more.

First off, the museum is an architectural gem. The museum has an incredible collection of modern Vietnamese art in the main building (1 of 3 buildings). Typical of Vietnamese museums, there’s a lack of information/context, some more storytelling could go a long way. The museum itself could also use some TLC. The other 2 buildings’ collections are much more tired and seem neglected. It’s 3.5 stars for me. Side note, there were so many cars parked, but not that many people there. Is the place running a side business?

Beautiful architecture. Lovely buildings and grounds. Interesting to see works by modern and contemporary artists I was previously unfamiliar with. Some real gems there. Ample and clean restrooms. However, the museums are open air and only a handful of rooms have AC. We went in the late morning and as the day went on, it became so hot and humid inside I had to leave before seeing everything and retreat to the hotel AC to cool off. I would suggest going here early in the morning instead for just this reason unless you are fully adjusted to the heat and humidity of the city.

Amazing experience. I enjoyed more the first building than the other two but it was still worth the whole visit. The library was closed. It's true that audio guides would be a great addition but I recommend talking to the very nice person at the entrance to recommend an itinerary.

I Absolutely, love this museum! A lot of beautiful art pieces! I went early in the morning and there was a nice amount of people. It seems like a hotspot for taking pictures. The place is huge so be prepared to bring a fan and some water because it can be a little hot walking upstairs and one building to another. A must-place if you enjoy museums.

It is a place where you can calmly appreciate art. You can enjoy pre-war and post-war paintings and modeling. I had a very good time with few opportunities to see the paintings of Vietnamese painters. The admission fee was 30,000 VND (150 yen). However, there is a discount today and it is 20,000 VND (100 yen).

The building itself is not as elegant as it looks from photos. Stained windows are plastic and not glass and many of them are broken. The displays were mostly very boring and uninspiring. I mostly didn't like the paintings and drawings and the statues and relics you could see in any temple or shop for free. There are recent photos on Google maps that I had hoped to find and didn't see those but it is a confusing layout of 3 buildings with many dark hallways and small rooms so I might have missed things. My favorite was the third building which had some beautiful ceramics, carvings and more ancient artifacts. Too many Instagram girls posing everywhere and getting in your way!

i had a few hours to kill on my last dy in Vietnam as my flight was a late one so I thought I’d spend some time checking out the HCMC Museum of Fine Arts. It was well worth but doing but note that they only accept cash. The entrance fee on the other hand is on 30K VND! There are a couple of ATM nearby though. The building itself is quite beautiful on the inside and out. There was quite a large collection inside from various artists with the more modern stuff on the ground floor. I started from the top and worked my way down. I really loved Nguyễn Sáng work especially the resistance pieces. Kim Bach work on silk was also quite exquisite but really there were quite a few lovely pieces on display by mainly if not entirely Vietnamese artists. There are two buildings to this museum with what I assume to be the permanent exhibitions in the first building you approach. The second building to the left had a special modern exhibition spread over a few rooms on the ground floor about the four elements; water, earth, fire and wind by ??? Very interesting and engaging installations. Don’t miss them.

Been here in early December 2023, this colonial building exudes classic heritage vibes and is often visited by Vietnamese dressed in traditional attire. Tickets are priced at 30,000 VND per person, making it a good place to explore Vietnamese arts, including sculptures and paintings, and understand their evolution. However, the building is not well-maintained, with deteriorating walls. All artworks are kept indoors, but there is no temperature control except for some rooms with air conditioning. Lastly, it seems that they’re many buildings to visit. I have just realized after already got back 🥲.

Make sure to explore both buildings, the main one and a special-collection building on the left. Both buildings are a work of art. Entrance fee is cheap, and you can easily spend 2-3 hours here. AC is only available in a few rooms and needs to pretty much be in the whole building. The heat is detrimental not just to visitors but also the art pieces.

The displayed works were great but what mesmerised me was the museum building itself. Such a beautiful art deco structure with stain glass windows, beautiful doorways, patterned tiles, French windows, vintage elevator (not in use), and the sconces and chandeliers!!! I just couldn’t get enough of this place! 😍

Beautiful architecture, displaying french influence. It houses a unique collection of mostly local artists, period art, and war related pieces. It was 30k dong to get in. There's a cafe located outside of it. There were many people taking professional photographs, so consider that if you want to have some awesome pics taken.

The building is an ancient house of The Hui Bon Hoa family, a Chinese business man in old Saigon. Saigon people called him Uncle Hoa. The house was built as a residency house, not under the structure for a Museum. Its structure is French Architecture of end XIX - early XX century combined with a little touch of Oriental style by using ceramic roof.

There are three separate buildings. One main building for modern and wartime art, one for concurrent collections which will depend on the time of visit and one for ancient artifacts. There is no elevator and you would have to take the stairs to visit all three storeys of each building. There is no audio guide, the air conditioning is poor so it can be a bit uncomfortable. There mainly are pieces of modern and wartime art like: sketches, oil paintings, statues... There are two of the eight protected national art treasures displayed here.

These French colonial buildings are lovely and hold a wonderful collection of vietnamese art. Unfortunately, the interiors are dark, drab, and in desperate need of an update. Painting the walls and doing a bit of dusting would be a good start. There are some wonderful sculptures, but they are covered in a thick layer of dust, prompting one visitor to write, 'clean me', in the dust. Please don't let this put you off visiting. If anything, it's a good excuse to escape the heat for an hour.

The museum is divided into 3 different buildings. Do remember to bring along water as it is quite humid inside the museum. Alternatively you can purchase beverages at the ticket counter. The 1st building displayed Modern Arts collections and there is a large lacquer wooden art piece which took an artist 20 years to complete was now been recognised as National treasure in 2013. I'm touched when looking at the art piece as it show how much devotion the artist took to complete his last piece of work. There is not much to view at 2nd building as part of the areas are under renovation. It is meant for holding special exhibitions for artists whereas the 3rd building displayed Ancient Arts collections. I personally love the red spiral staircase.

I arrived very late so the museum was closed for visitors however it was lighted outside which was a surprise bonus . The light brings out the beautiful architect design of the building. I will come back again during the day so I can tour the inside. I would recommend that you research the history of the owners of the building before you get there. They were known to be the richest family in Vietnam during their time.

Nice museum with lots of artwork modern and contemporary. Lots of works depicting the war. 30k plus parking. Dress in lite clothes as it gets warm inside and lots of stairs to climb. I liked the sculptures both inside and out but couldn't understand the one of the red chair. I think it had to do with the common but strong local work force.

"One of the oldest art museums in Ho Chi Minh City, the Museum of Fine Arts occupies a gorgeous colonial-era building from 1929. The collection starts with sculptures from the early Funan and Cham kingdoms, dating back as far as the fourth century, but it’s also home to intriguing modern art pieces, many focused on the Vietnam War." 😃👍🏻
