A small restaurant serving classic French cuisine. We tried the 4 course menu without any wine. Food was good, presentation and price are ok too. Scallop comes in thin slice which is quite special. Duck config is a little overcook but taste is ok. The restaurant gets noisy in the weekend when it's packed. Avoid busy hour if you are looking for a romantic session. The waitress could not speak good chinese. I have problem calling the restaurant, the number on Google map is not answering.

228 vacation, revisit with photos. The best continental cuisine I've been in Taichung. To me it's less a French restaurant and more a restaurant with talented innovative French (I guess?) chef. I experienced a really wonderful journey to how the chef created with his cuisine, from appetizer to dessert, I posted all photos here. My appetizer was cheese mushroom, it tasted more like cheese fondue with mushroom. Great choice of white wine and cheese. Pumpkin soup was also great, multiple level of flavor. Vegetarian risotto as you see a lot of vegetables, neat presentation, tasted with strong truffle. Chocolate fondant seasoned well, cannot stop finishing it. Entirely the worst was the craft beer, although it tastes the same to normal 1664 but it's far worse than food served by the chef. I strongly suggest to visit by and I'll definitely re-visit.

What a hidden gem recommended by a friend. The restaurant is very authentic, our family ordered 5 different mains and they were all super delicious with a generous portion. Price is around 1000 or so per person including soup, starter and dessert! My dad loved the onion soup and we really enjoy the creamy tomato soup. The fries were also divine. They also have this flavorful beef tartare which I savored every bite. It is insanely good value for the portion, food and service you get. One of the best french dining experience I've had that definitely won't break the bank!

This was our (sadly) first visit to Gulu House. The evening started with a pair of amazing starters, escargot and mushroom egg cocotte. Maybe the best escargot I have ever had. For sure a must have. Next was the French onion soup. Again, they hit it out of the park. Just amazing flavors. For our main course, we shared a 900g Rib Eye steak. Medium rare with mushroom sauce and a mustard sauce on the side. Juicy and delicious is all I can say. The french fries were maybe the best around also. The basket was overflowing and we for sure enjoyed. For dessert, I had the creme brulee and my wife had the apple tart. Both were amazing, but the apple tart was for sure the right choice. We will return. Wine list was good and reasonably priced.

It was a small and warm restaurant, very nice decor and the staff was pleasant. The food was very good and the portions were filling. I enjoyed every course. The most enjoyable were the desserts. All the desserts were delicious and different. Would definitely come back to try other items on the menu and they have some seasonal items which seem really delicious too

Fresh oysters full of sea taste and the lamb is tender and tasty. If arrived in Taichung, Gulu's house is my best choice.

Talented team at work! I'm French and i can tell you this is a high level of cuisine at a very fair price! They definitely deserve their reputation. (Sorry my pictures aren't the best, they don't the dishes justice). Chef, next time I want to eat ris de veau sauce aux morilles please :p

Authentic and divine French restaurant! Great ambience with French music in a cozy atmosphere. The food was extraordinary and Julia Child would be so amazed at the skill level of this French chef. Update after COVID restrictions lifted, July 2021: Gulu's continues to serve amazing French cuisine that outshines other high-end restaurants. We tried the chestnut soup, duck confit, pasta bolognese, creme brulee, and chocolate lava cake. So delicious!

Must try if you're in Taichung for dinner, or lunch on the weekend. Appetizers alone blew my mind and the beef filet was perfectly done. Wait staff was also attentive and helpful. Get here ASAP!

It is one of the best French restaurant I have had in Taiwan. I was here with my British friend who is super picky about food. However, he loves this resturant a lot and we came to this twice in 2 weeks. Actually, we also came on Wed but they closed. The food is very good. They are very similar to the food I had in France. Salmon is definitely a good entree. You will have to get onion soup. Beef fillet and duck confit are good choices for the main. And then get an apple tart for ending. Although the price is similar to the set in France, it's worth it!

Second time coming to Gulu’s House. Everything is exclusive and prepare slowly (they even have a notification before you order your meal) The environment is really with a nice vintage decoration. I scored 4 stars, because the tables are to close to each other (it seems you are participating in other table’s conversation) and the environment is noisy (uncomfortable to talk). FOOD: My friend and ordered two sets: STARTERS: Salmon Salad (Nothing Special) and Taiwanese Pate (my friend love it. I didn’t try it) SOUPS: Onion Soup (it’s really yummy and authentic - I always order it) and Mushroom Soup (my friend like it) MAIN COURSES: Duck (My friend like it and told me it was tender and juicy) and New Zeland fillet (It was tender, bleeding and the mushroom pepper matched perfectly). Both of them come with veggies. DESSERTS: Creme Brûlée (My friend like it) and I had 3 chocolate pie (I didn’t get the exactly name, but it was good. I could eat it again). It comes 2 pieces of bread per person and butter as appetizer. MENU: It’s a simple menu with English and Chinese Version. You just pick a starter, soup, main course and dessert. You have around 3-4 options from each session and some options run out really fast. It’s a QR Code Menu. Just one observation that they could write the price of the options in the menu. It’s written after the meal option “NTD?” which is for me a little bit troublesome, since I don’t want keep asking all the time how much the meal is and I want to know how much I am paying extra for that appetizer. SERVICE: They mention in the “Welcome Menu” that they have only 3 people working in the whole restaurant. So it’s a slow service. But they are all friendly and kind. PRICE: 2,970 兩位 - If you pay with card, the price will be higher. So bring some cash with you.

Decent tasting French cuisine. Maybe a bit more authentic than most taiwanese or Asian audiences are accustomed to, but great for those seeking a more authentic taste. The price point is okay for French restaurants in Taichung although it isn't low. Not a huge selection but the service is good too. The rose creme brulee and onion soup are great!

I met some friends here. The atmosphere makes you feel like you have entered another world. The food is fantastic. The service was great. I tried a few things that I have never tried before and was pleasantly surprised. You feel like you have gone to France without the jet lag. It’s perfect for a night out with the girls or a date night.

Extraordinary dishes!! The taste, the flavor, the look are great! The scallops are juicy and Q, eat with foie gras is just fabulous! Oceans fresh with fowl fresh, definitely a great match. The lambs with couscous, perfect match! I’d eat it every day, tender meat with just fine sauce! Those are only main course, for sure to revisit for more other dishes.

It was our first time in Gulu's but definitely not the last time. Good selection of meals. Me and my boyfriend chose the set menu. We opted for different meals so we could share and try more meals. Everything not only looked nice but was very delicious. Good French wines, too! Nice atmosphere, good service. Highly recommended!

Wonderful french/Belgian cuisine, it was just delicious! The restaurant is being served by a very enthusiastic Belgian manager and the cooks are both French and serve you with Taichung's finest dishes. According to French/Belgian routines, you can sit back and take all the time you need to enjoy your nice dinner.

Highly recommended unpretentious French Bistro. Good service, food and atmosphere. I asked for Beef tartare not on menu, it was prepared with beef fillet, cut with knife with delicious seasoning and hand cut French fries, DELICIOUS.
