The food is absolutely amazing and the service even better. I visited Gypsy Grill today after spending all day in the hospital with my dad. I didn’t have much of an appetite and wasn’t feeling too well. The person at the counter graciously offers me a sample of their delicious soup to help with my headache as I wait for my food. Once my food came, it not only looked and smelled delicious, the taste was amazing! I ordered the chicken platter. It came with marinated Chicken, rice and salad. It truly hit the spot. This will be my new go to spot. Thank Gypsy grill for being so kind to me and for the delicious food. You gained a new customer for life.

This is the most welcoming place with absolutely delicious, authentic food. Bape was such a nice man. He served us with a big, warm smile. We were a big group, and he was so attentive to each and one of us. You can just feel the good vibes as soon as you walk inside. :) The food is amazing.

Perfectly located. The lentil soup is fantastic and rounds off a falafel & humus pita so well, it creates a craving. I'm vegetarian, but the lamb chops smell sooo good when my wife orders them, it is contentious. My mother loves the chicken shawarma... What's great is that there are great items on the menu for all of us. Gypsy Grill never fails.

Really nice place to eat in Jersey City. Friend brought me here. We got a beef & lamb shawrma sandwich which was tasty. Also, we got a spinach and cheese roll with fries which were really good as well which came with sauces. Food was fresh and made quickly. I will definitely come back here again.

DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT HAIR IN YOUR FOOD! I asked for a refund & the owner or whoever told me I needed to have the food present in order to get a refund. I threw away the sand which in which he offered another one. But why would I want to take another sandwich if the first one had hair in it. The owner was VERY rude about it. I would never come here again.

Located on Newark Avenue's pedestrian plaza, this little takeout place is a true gem. Chicken and lamb kebabs are super tender and highly marinated; not dry or bland at all. Portions are massive, and prices very reasonable. Will definitely be back, and would make a special trip just to get their food.

One of my favorite restaurants in Jersey City and just 5 minutes away from the Grove Street PATH Station. They have the best chicken shawarma and falafel. I also love their tahini and garlic sauce. The staff are very friendly and attentive as well.

The best kofta I’ve tried here in America. The lamb chops were also the best lamb chops I’ve had. Food was 12/10 and the service was 13/10. If you’re reading this right now, you absolutely have to come. Hawawshi was divine as well

Absolutely amazing food. Got the family platter for 5 and was so much food it could feed 8. The beef kebabs were so tender they melt in your mouth. And they gave us some free appetizers as well. Highly recommend!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this Gypsy Grill, and I must say, it was all delicious. The moment we walked in, I was greeted by the warm and inviting ambiance that transported me straight to the heart of the Middle East. The menu is an exquisite blend of traditional flavors and innovative twists, offering a wide array of mouthwatering dishes. The falafel was perfectly crispy on the outside and delightfully tender on the inside, bursting with authentic spices. The kebabs were grilled to perfection What truly stood out was the attentive and friendly staff who were more than willing to guide me through the menu, making excellent recommendations based on my preferences. The presentation of the dishes was a work of art, and the attention to detail was evident in every plate that arrived at my table. A must visit and will come again!

Be careful about the food and drink here! I ordered platter and diet coke but the coke has expired 18 months ago, asked the restaurant they tried to exchange with another expired coke. Serious doubt for the food quality and credibility of the restaurant!

There is a famous car in New York City that sells similar type of food. If you like that, you may like the Gypsy Grill's food much more. This is a great culinary establishment in Jersey City, and has been so since 2015 - the year I first heard about it from a great friend. At its price point and target market Food: 5 out of 5 Service: 5 out of 5 (a 5 minute wait for food to be ready) Location: 5 out of 5 (a few minutes walk to the Grove Street PATH)

Edit: second visit, had a shawarma pita: and it is definitely the best shawarma EVER! I've been to many places in multiple countries, and this is hands down the best well spiced and cooked chicken shawarma in my life; no exaggeration. Original comment: Really friendly staff and the food is extra good! Went there and told them I came all the way from Brooklyn, they gave me sweets for free.

This place was GREAT! From the taste of the food to the customer service, it was a 10/10 experience. I got the shawarma platter - the food was so delicious and I was shocked to see how big the portion sizes were. I was so full after and so happy I came across this restaurant, I will most definitely be returning soon!!

Good tastes good but completely overpriced. See attached picture. They charged me $4 for this pita. Putting a small hot sauce container next to it for reference so you can see how small the $4 pita is.

A Mediterranean place that serves authentic food. The falafel is fresh made. True falafel. Not from the powder. The meat is also great. Highly recommended ! Salam !

AMAZING!!!! So far our favorite spot in Jersey City! The shawarmas extremely good, the garlic and spicy sauces delicious, the service wonderful! We are so happy we found this place! :) Thank you so much to the staff! Everyone was super nice and friendly :)

The food and service here are great, but the star of this place is the Koshary (the national dish of Egypt apparently, who knew!) We had it for the first time yesterday. It's got lentils, fried rice, pasta, crisp onions, all mixed together and comes with several delicious (and one very hot) homemade sauces. You can add meat if you like, but it's absolutely not necessary. It's only available on Saturdays unfortunately, but it's really worth waiting for. A perfect brunch to take out and eat on the Newark avenue pedestrian plaza before walking to the Van Vorst Park Farmer's Market or wherever else your Saturday mornings take you... Got me salivating just thinking about it again!

Their menu is quite extensive and there’s something for everyone. I like the drink selection they have. Was a bit disappointed with the hummus, was a bit too runny and I expected better considering it’s a Mediterranean restaurant but overall it’s a decent place to grab a bite. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Absolutely trash attitude! After being their customer for over 8 years, sadly I have to write this. There was this young/tall guy with curly hair as a cashier who made the visit absolutely disappointing with his disgusting attitude. He had zero politeness while i was placing the order and was arguing over a plastic bag while delivering. There are restaurants who just throw a bunch of ketchup sachets for free, he demanded .50 cents for 1 single sachet. Not a box, just a tiny sachet. The food has lost its taste as well. Not going to order here anymore !!

I love this place -- great food at reasonable prices (which is harder and harder to find in downtown JC). In my mind, there is no point in getting falafel anywhere else. Nice people. There are a couple of tables, but it's not much of a place to sit and eat if you are looking for a "restaurant" atmosphere. That said, you can eat there if you like, and they have a couple of tables outside; also, it's right on the Newark Avenue pedestrian mall, so there are lots of benches outside in good weather. The food has been bringing me back there for years.

I would go again, the food was about an 8/10, the atmosphere was basic and the food presentation as well, the front counter guy for whatever reason was clearly in a grumpy mood, some language barrier makes communication challenging. The owner however was polite, warm, respectful… anyway, good food, prices not too bad 👍

Can't fault it. Lovely service but the food is great too. We're used to Zankou in LA and decades of kebab scoffing in the UK. We had the lamb beef schwarma box, gypsy fries and baba ghanouj. Amazing. Rice was nice, not saffron but good, and the garlic sauce not too strong. I usually like it stronger, and the ghanouj a little smokier but nothing overpowers here, all flavors blend effortlessly. Fries are like back in Britain, bloody great, and if you're ordering, get some baklava too! Tasty good. Already looking forward to our next order!

It may not be the tidiest sandwich, but it’s worth the mess! I got the mixed veggie sandwich, medium spicy, and it was everything I could ever wish for. You’re not compromising by ordering vegetarian with this one. So flavorful—from the crispy falafel to the nicely cooked eggplant, pickled onion, creamy tahini and hummus—everything was spot on. Friendly service too. 10/10, can’t wait to go back.

Terrible experience. Rude employees, filthy and overpriced. Kunafeh is not with cheese and they give you two bites for $5. The pita sandwich is mini sized. I hate to give fellow Muslims a bad review but this was ridiculous

Good service and very flavorful food. My go to is generally the chicken shawarma. Tried the Hawashi the other day and that's good too, although a bit overpriced in my opinion considering the quantity.

Heard a lot about this place and decided to pay a visit. Seemed very welcoming. However, same cannot be said about the food. Ordered Falafel with hummus , the pita bread was cold and dry, same with the falafel, hard and dry, the hummus, less said the better, tasteless - felt stale. Not sure if i was served with what was left for the day, contradictory to the all fresh mentions on the wall. I walked away with a bad experience.

We recently catered from Gypsy Grill and they exceeded our expectations! The food came packaged well and stayed warm and included a ton of sauces on the side. Everything tasted delicious!! The meats were great and the koshary was one of the best I have ever had out. Would definitely order from them again!

TIPS DO NOT GO TO EMPLOYEES. Food = AWESOME. Problem? The owner steals 100% of the tips. I was putting money in the tip jar and was told not to do it because the owner keeps all of the tip money. What a scumbag. DO NOT TIP!

The food was absolutely amazing, some of the best arab food Ive ever had. I ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich and their gypsy fries. Both were really good and the portions were pretty big. I was stuffed after and it tasted amazing! Will definitely come again!

I had very HIGH EXPECTATIONS from other reviews and was utterly disappointed. I chose this restaurant after seeing a number of websites garnering this as a top Mediterranean/gyro establishment in Jersey City. This is only important because i made the attempt to eat meat again for the first time in 6 years and took a chance on Gypsy Grill. I ordered the Gypsy Platter. The chicken shawarma in it was okay (would only order again if desperate), and the Gypsy fries and falafel were good but everything else I had was terrible. The rice was dry and I hardly had any salad in my platter. The babaghannouj was disgusting, the spice ratio was not balanced and the consistency was not smooth as you would expect from a puree. I've never had babaganoush that inedible. The Fava Beans were also not great but no where near as detestable as the babaghannouj. It could have benefited from a little salt, and I eat most of my food without salt. For a place with a number of sauces the only ones that were not lacking was the white sauce, hot sauce and harissa, everything else had no a lot of spices and no flavor. I would not go back to this restaurant or recommend it to my friends. Maybe their meat is tasty, but I wouldn't want to subject myself to spending the money on the meat if everything else I'm eating with it makes cat food seem like a better option.

Excellent portion size, phenomenal taste, superb customer service. They really took care of us and made sure everything was flawless. My family and I will certainly return the next time we’re in town !

Good taste of the sandwiches but not great for my taste . Also I didn’t like the bakulava at all because it was very soft and no crunch at all and it was plain sweet

This is the best hummus and falafel I've ever had. Can’t wait to eat this again! 👍🏼

A familiar counter-serve setting with familiar shawarma and kabob that's just done really well. Grabbed the lamb + beef shawarma platter, which smelt and tasted so good, with juicy, tender meat that wasn't over-seasoned. I was taken aback by the sheer hunk of food in my tray, and despite how starving I was after a day of travel, this completed filled the hole in my stomach. I'm excited to stop by again when I have a shawarma craving. A great takeout option for what you get, at a very reasonable price.
