A great space with lots of choices though being a general store, i feel they should have some food choices as well especially being downtown. Friendly and attentive staff who seem actually invested in the company and not forced to be there and fake smile.

Love this store. Good old fashioned candy in the back. Great clothes and shoes. Friendly staff. I've never left without making a purchase.

They have amazing customer service. I had to return my shoes several times to get the perfect fit and they shipped them all over for me. They have happy employees and a lot of fun stuff and high quality clothes that don’t fall apart

This is an old historical looking store on Trade St. Right in the middle of downtown. It's got a very inviting feel to it with happy and helpful employees. If your in the area stop by and hang out for a while. Maybe even buy something... lol

Great modern day store with a old general store fill.. Have all the knickknacks and candies you'd expect with modern camping gear, clothes, knives, and other neat things. There are 2 stories, the downstairs is shoes, clothes and a knife section. Staff are super nice and helpful. Great place to just check out. We were told to and happy we stopped in.

They always seem to have very professional and cheery staff. I love going there just to see what they have in stock and grab a tasty snack or candy on my way out. When I'm looking for something specific they always check their inventory and go above and beyond. Thank you for making shopping less of a hassle!

First time being in one of the branches. There is a mix of quality brands and nostalgic items. The candy by the pound helps you get a large variety without having to get a lot of one thing. Downstairs is a nice collection of outdoor and camping gear. Look for the red tags and you'll find some amazing deals. The staff was friendly and engaging when needed and allowed us to browse and not be pushy. I would highly recommend it.

They have a little of everything, maybe even a few things from your childhood.

Sale signs are misleading. False advertisements. I picked something for the sales rack that says take another 50% off on already reduced price. But when I went to the cashier it was not honored and was told " oh only the price ending with .97 are 50% off. ." The entire rack were all clearance item with the sign additional 50% off! I should have taken a picture and report it as False advertisement. Don't think I'll be in there again nor recommends others to go there. I could get anything they sell there elsewhere and online.

A step back in time. Been wanting to visit all the Mast General store locations, and this location did not disappoint me. Bought a Moon Pie and a cold RC cola. Will eventually find my way to all the locations and here as well again.

It's the best store in town. From clothes and camping stuff to barbecue sauce and dog treats, they have it all, and everything is of top-notch quality. My favorite store ever.

Such a cool store definitely need to check out if you have never been here. It was my first time visiting this store and it seems to have a bit of everything. The candy section with retro games was amazing if you have a sweet tooth this is definitely your spot haven’t seen some of this candy since I was a kid. They have clothing, shoes and knives even things for your pets. Definitely a place I will visit again when I am back in North Carolina. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Loved all the antiques around the store also.

Visiting from out of town, came to visit as is a historic store. Old time candy selection was huge and a great memory. Must try some of the fruit preserves and the local honey.

Very cool store. There is even a resident dog who loves to play. A little pricey on some items. Make sure you check out the downstairs.

This is a fun store with yesterday vibe. Individual candy sold which the kids love, maybe me also. Cloths are a little pricey but are nice quality.

It felt like we were in the original Mast General Store in Valle Crusis NC in the mountains...it was odd coming off Trade Street in downtown Winston Salem to walk into what felt like a mountain atmosphere. But their selection was great...their staff was friendly and we spent over $100 in just honey, candy and gemstones! ☺️

What a great store in downtown Winston. Candy sold by the pound? They have it. Apparel? They have it. Hydroflask bottles? Yup, it's there. Winston-Salem merchandise? There is a wide selection of sweaters, t-shirts, magnetics, buttons, glassware, etc. Home goods? Oh yeah. We picked up a sweet little dessert cookbook this weekend. Make sure you check out both floors! Plus its within walking distance of so many other places downtown - yoga studios, restaurants, coffee shops, bars, art galleries, etc. Update #2: appreciate their collection of local products including honey, BBQ sauce, and apple butters. It was extremely helpful and convenient when making a "NC gift basket" for out of state relatives.

Mast General was founded in 1883 and still has the feel of an old time general store. They still sell a few items that have been around for decades. Barrels of bulk hard candy are a favorite with our kids. They also have a nice selection of pottery, kitchen ware, specialty sauces, jellies, jams and mixes. Their primary focus is clothing. Upstairs focuses on casual clothes, while downstairs features footwear for men, women and children, and clothing for the outdoors. They also carry a range of outdoor gear: tents, hammocks, backpacks, hiking and fishing essentials, knives and axes, and almost anything else you might need. Their Christmas selection is limited, but cute this year. And of course they have a selection of Winston Salem souvenirs. There are nine locations to choose from across Virginia, Tennessee and North and South Carolina.
