OMG THEY HAVE LLAMAS!!!!! And it really loves to nibble on hair and nibble on long sleeves so be warned!!! But the llama in the pictures it’s the one that does that but it don’t hurt. He’s sssooooo cute!!!! The zoo it’s self is free but they do take donations!!!! As they probably need it!!!! I love this place soooooo much!!!! I love my baby for surprising me today!!!! Definitely worth going to!!!! So see alll the great animals!!! Also very interactive as well!!!!

I absolutely loved this zoo! They suggest $5 a family or $2/person but you aren’t required to donate to enter. Super cute gift shop. Staff was very friendly and willing to answer any questions you had. Cicada turtles were participating in adult quality time and it was weird. The raccoon was sleeping the whole time it’s like it know it’s my favorite and what I was looking forward too so that was a lil sad but it’s gotta be exhausting being that cute 24/7 so I understand. There were a bunch more interesting animals to see though so it was fine. Definitely take the time to stop. The whole park itself is cute.

Free to enter, good place to take the kids or to go for a walk. Great people at zoo. Petting zoo portion is a blast. Beware the Llama like to nibble sometimes. Excited for the new exhibits to come.

Beautiful Zoo, photogenic animals who seem to like the attention, and it's free?! Definitely the coolest place we stopped while out of our home state. My only complaint is the gift shop wasn't open and I wanted to buy fish food and a souvenir, however I understand the world is understaffed. The one worker we did see was friendly and doing what she could to keep up with the morning zoo routine. Overall, we both loved it! If I'm ever in Kansas again it's definitely on my to do list even if it's out of the way to get to next time

What a fun little zoo to visit!!! My littles especially enjoyed the small play areas and the telescope! The animals were moving all about and we got the chance to get right up close to a few of them. The path circles back to the beginning so there's no backtracking. We were there 30-45 minutes but you could stay longer if you wanted! Plenty of picnic tables I wish we could have taken advantage of--next time!

Not the biggest, but you can tell they take care of their animals. Kids had a great time.

Went for a friend's birthday party, where a large room was rented out. It was nicely air conditioned, and a pathway from the door led to the Zoo. Now I know that I shouldn't expect much from a (small) town, but the exhibits I did see were quite boring and unexciting. Most of the animals we saw were sleeping, (not a fault of the zoos, they just happened to be nocturnal.) However would have been nice to see some of them in action. Enclosures are quite small, which had me feeling very sorry for the animals they did have. All the water exhibits (The Avery) were absolutely filthy, horribly maintained. The paths were nice and clean, no trash anywhere around. Only saw one staff employee the whole time. We did not cover the entire zoo, mainly because the party room was rented for only 2 hours. It happened to be a very nice day, so that helped in the enjoyment of the zoo.

They have tubes that kids can climb into and get face to face with groundhogs. Very cool at the zoo not so much around the house. Met Cheyenne the zookeeper and a few of the other girls that work there last week and boy howdy talk about some good looking girls. Plus Cheyenne gave me some very good diet tips for my desert tortoise 🐢. Just wish my dog could come inside.

A really nice little zoo especially for being free! It looked like they were doing some upgrades as well to let you get a closer look at the bison across the pond.

My grandkids had a blast. Wish we could feed the fish. Need more tropical animals. Otters need more toys. My grandson had a ball the otter went crazy watching the ball go back n forth very entertaining. We left a good donation.

The fact that this accredited zoo is free, and so well loved fills my heart with joy! Was happy to donate, just wish I had more time on the trip! Cleanest hellbender exhibit I'd ever seen!

This place is free! This zoo is a perfect size for our three younger kids to explore on their own. This is an EASY 2 hour period of relaxed enjoyment for parents and kids a like! Bring a couple quarters to feed the 🐟!

Such a wonderful place, very clean and great staff. Although the zoo is small it's perfect for a quick visit. I take all 5 of my children, one who has autism and we have no problems. We all enjoy it and make it a stop every time we're in town.

  • 5/5 Kay M. 2 years ago on Google
A very nice FREE zoo. A lot of things for kids.. Staff was very informative when asked questions. Got to watch the feedings before we left. You've got to see the baby otters!!

  • 5/5 James R. 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful landscaping and the animals are great. The otters loved people watching them!

    Great place to take kids

  • 4/5 Harley N. 4 years ago on Google
It's a very small zoo but quite enjoyable. What animals they have seem to be fairly well presented. It only takes 30-45 minutes to go through but it's free, so that's fine. If you're in the area and have a bit of time free, it's worth checking out.

    Great little zoo!

  • 4/5 Alan T. 2 years ago on Google
This is a fun experience, and it's free. Sure there are bigger and better zoos, but this zoo has alot of love in it, and they make it work with limited budgets. Definitely a good time for a family.

  • 5/5 Joseph “Bubba Gump” R. 2 years ago on Google
What can be said about this quint little place. It's free to enter and it has some animals that you might not see in a regular zoo. Really cool little spot to take the kids and check out some local critter and beasts.

  • 4/5 Clayton O. 2 years ago on Google
Been to this zoo multiple time, good place for kids, kinda small but good for a city zoo.

  • 4/5 Paula B. 2 years ago on Google
Sadly the day after Thanksgiving yielded lesser exhibits , however it was a gorgeous day and the kids had a great time!

  • 4/5 stroker h. 2 years ago on Google
Always enjoy waking thru the zoo, it's clean and I enjoy looking at the landscaping. Otters and beavers are very cool 😎

  • 2/5 Nichole E. 1 year ago on Google
There was barely any animals we could get close to. The little petting area, and the gift shop were both closed while we were there. My little fella did enjoy the dinosaur dig spot! We plan to go again, in hopes more will be open.

  • 5/5 Bryan F. 2 years ago on Google
Cute, small little local zoo. Very polite, friendly, and accommodating! Not a pluthera of animals, but a good mix. Otters are the best part! Was happy to hear they were open with the snow! They assured me all animals have access to heated areas or are moved! Very friendly and welcoming, highly recommend!

  • 3/5 Amber Van R. 2 years ago on Google
I haven't been to the zoo since before covid over 2 years ago so figured we would go take a look as we had heard new exhibits had opened. They are there but were closed on a clear Saturday afternoon with no explanation and it was just overall pretty boring as there were very few animals to see. Hoping it will get better as we love having a zoo here in our town.

  • 5/5 Mari S. 1 year ago on Google
This place was so nice! I hadn't been to a zoo in several years. Since I was a kid in grade school. Was my daughter's first time too. Had a great time!

  • 5/5 Kim G. 11 months ago on Google
The cat had got into a bird and broke his wing. So I placed him in a cage and took him out here since they do have a rehab. Well I was there I visited the zoo it has been decades since I've been at the zoo they have done so much you've got to visit!

  • 4/5 justin m. 7 months ago on Google
Very cute little zoo to take the family to. No admission but there is a box to donate. A lot of really cool animals and enclosures, great way to spend a few hours out with the family. Facilities are very clean and well maintained. Didn't see any staff while we were here so I can't speak for how friendly they are. Small gift shop, not sure of the hours. Definitely worth the couple hour stop to see.

  • 5/5 Kylee W. 7 months ago on Google
Such a fun little zoo for my toddlers! Free admission. Little train you can pay to ride on. A couple little playgrounds within the zoo. A couple of inside exhibits. They now have a splash pad too!

  • 5/5 Rachel S. 5 months ago on Google
We love coming to the Hutchinson zoo! It is a fun, kid-friendly and free option for families. The animals are well cared for and the new natural playground is amazing! My kid loves the water play area.

Nice little zoo to see. Animals were well taken care of. Went in the heat of the day so a few critters were hiding. Really liked the reptile building and the aviary. It's free so it's a nice little side stop to rest and explore.

Small but lots of fun animals. Black footed ferret, beaver, 2 diff foxes...list goes on. They keep it clean and flowers are beautiful. Staff very nice and friendly. Train to ride.

If you want a simple outing with your kids, or even by yourself, the Hutchinson Zoo makes for a great time. I have always enjoyed going here and am so happy that it is still around for my children to enjoy when I come back to the area to visit.

Great variety of Kansas animals. Now has South American animals and a shark. Train and play areas for kiddos. Accessible paths for walkers and strollers. Free but suggested donation. Parking is free and close. Inside a park with other fun options. Love to visit the badger and Pronghorn!

  • 4/5 Suzanne B. 4 years ago on Google
Small local zoo that is free. It was nice for being the middle of February! It was cold, so the animals were hiding, but they had some beautiful hawks and owls hanging out. The gardens look like they are beautiful when in bloom.

  • 5/5 Shane B. 5 years ago on Google
One of our favorite stops in Hutchinson. Haven't been there in years and was good to see that they had kept up with improvements and it was undergoing another small expansion. It's a free zoo, but always happy to leave some money in the donation box.

  • 4/5 Trevor Y. 3 years ago on Google
Well kept small zoo, friendly staff. If you're around down town and have an hour of time to burn perfect place to stop in.

  • 4/5 Meagan W. 3 years ago on Google
So I know that it's a "free" zoo (donations requested), but I honestly feel like it has gone downhill over the past several years. That's just my opinion and some may totally disagree, I just felt like we were in and out of the place in like 30 min. Again, I realize that it's free, and that is greatly appreciated, just have noticed that it isn't as impressive as it once was. Also, they moved a lot of stuff, including that they now have something like a petting zoo? But it's only once a day, so we missed that. I believe it's the same animals that you used to be able to walk up really close to, and now they're very far away if you're not there for their one time daily action. All of that being said, I'd still take my kids back when we need something to do, but don't necessarily have all day to drive to Wichita.

Even as cool as the weather was for the weekend, the Zoo was open and we had a good outing.

Low key little zoo but they do a great job! Our kids sure enjoy it!

  • 5/5 Josiah B. 4 years ago on Google
No price it is a nice zoo

  • 5/5 Hugo H. 3 years ago on Google
Free parking & admission. Open 10 - 4:45. No pressure donation box. Bring quarters to feed koi / opportunist ducks. After 11:30 llama, donkey, and mini horses can be seen. I spent 1 1/2 hours, but 45 minutes is probably average.

  • 4/5 David W. 4 years ago on Google
It's nice for free zoo. Just wish they had a few more exotic animals.

  • 5/5 Brandon B. 4 years ago on Google
The Zoo has a great variety of animals from all over. They have removed some of the old attractions and are adding new ones currently. The river otters are gone but they have beavers in there now. The monkeys aren't there either but they let you watch them feed the alligators.

  • 5/5 Cole N. 4 years ago on Google
Great place to take friends and family

  • 4/5 Andrea A. 4 years ago on Google
A great free activity for all the family. It's not a big zoo so it maybe takes an hour to complete. There are activities and a play area inside to occupy some time. A cute little gift shop in the office. When I went there was free access to a wheelchair if needed, has to be checked out with the staff first.

  • 4/5 Brianna H. 4 years ago on Google
Nice little outing area! Some of the exhibits were being worked on and the gift shop was small, but it was still a quaint little zoo!
