This is a vrey beautiful mosque close to Charminar. You should definetly visit this place when you visit Charminar. Most of the portion of this mosque is open and ladies are not allowed in the inner most section but they enter the mosque premises provided they are wearing salwar or leggings and a duppatta / stole / scarf is required. It has a beautiful structure and you can find a lot of pegions inside the mosque.

The historic Mecca Masjid is located adjacent to Charminar in a south-west direction. The construction of this mosque started in the year 1614 by Sultan Muhammad Qutb Shah and was Aurangzeb completed in 1693. Built with local granite, it finds place among largest mosques in India and is the most important and largest one in the city. The arched gallery displays the tombs of all the Nizam’s from the year 1803. There is a high blocking wall on the western side for Mehrab. It has two huge octagonal columns, which are created from a single piece of granite. This is inturn topped by an arched gallery crowned by a dome. This mosque can accommodate 10,000 worshipers at any time. It is located two hundred yards from Charminar. The mosque was believed to have used bricks during its construction where brought from Mecca. A room in the courtyard is believed to house a sacred relic of the prophet. According to history, Sultan Muhammad Qutub Shah invited the entire devout religious elders in the city to lay the foundation stone but as no one had come forward, Sultan Muhammad himself volunteered to lay foundation and it is said that he never missed his midnight prayer in life right from the age of 12. Visitors coming to Charminar also visit the holy mosque, which lends a divine aura to the Muslim worshippers in the old city of Hyderabad.

Today, Mecca Masjid is open to visitors of all faiths and is a popular tourist attraction in Hyderabad. As it's a place for Worship. Visitors are advised to dress modestly and remove their shoes before entering the mosque. Situated just next to Charminar only. There is no religious restriction to enter the Masjid. But you can't carry any bags of covers inside and for ladies dupatta should be there and skirts and shorts are not allowed.

Another beautiful construction showing the rich heritage culture of Hyderabad. It's located close to the Charminar. Bags are not allowed. No restriction for photography. A pond in front of the mosque and doves flying are giving a memorable view.

"It is about 50 years since they began to build a splendid pagoda in the town which will be the grandest in all India when it is completed. The size of the stone is the subject of special accomplishment, and that of a niche, which is its place for prayer, is an entire rock of such enormous size that they spent five years in quarrying it, and 500 to 600 men were employed continually on its work. It required still more time to roll it up on to conveyance by which they brought it to the pagoda; and they took 1400 oxen to draw it."

Opening timings are from 4 to 9.30 pm everyday but on Fridays it is filled with people who come to offer prayers. For sightseeing better to go on some other day. It is said that it took more than 60 years to build this mosque and by about 8000 labourers!

Mecca Masjid is located near Charminar, walkable distance only. Security is strict at the entrance.. There will be checking and food items are not allowed inside... Moreover, the main attraction over there are pigeons.. The place is little dirty coz of pigeons, but we will not feel the same while visiting that place.. As its near Charminar, this place is also crowded..

Huge prayer hall & the large compound was impressive. My wife burrowed long dress to cover her up. Paintings & artwork were beautiful. Bricks of the Masjid were made of soil brought from Mecca, hence the name Mecca Masjid. Masjid looked big enough to gather a large crowd.

What a wonderful place to be at. Such a calming place. It's just opposite to charminar. Everyone is allowed to enter no matter what religion you follow. One small thing is men are allowed to enter only in full pants, shorts and not allowed, I'm not sure about the attire for women. It's a beautiful place to be at definitely worth the visit. It's very beautifully built, pretty admirable!

Such a calm and peaceful place it is. There is no entry ticket so come and spend as much time as you can. You can feed the pigeons and also attend the prayer. There is a free drinking water supply and washrooms are also available. There are few rules for clothing, women wearing shorts are not allowed and every woman must wear a dupatta to enter inside. If you are local then girls are allowed only with family. As I came from outside I was allowed as a tourist.

Construction of Hyderabad's Mecca Masjid, one of the world's largest mosques-and one of the oldest in India-began in 1614 during Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah's reign and took almost 80 years to complete. Large enough to accommodate 10,000 worshipers, this beautiful mosque's 15 enormous arches and pillars were each wrought from single slabs of black granite dragged to the site by huge cattle trains reputedly consisting of up to 1,400 bulls. Taking its name from the bricks above the central gate that were brought here from Mecca, this impressive complex features highlights such as its main gateway, huge plaza, a large manmade pond, and a room that houses the hair of Prophet Mohammed. Other notable features include inscriptions from the Quran above many of the arches and doors, the exquisite roof of the main hall, the cornices around the entire mosque structure, and the floral motifs and friezes over the arches

The evening view was awesome with near by Charminar view and market. A beautiful and peaceful place for everyone. Mosque center pond need some maintenance, water was not good. Ablution area is well maintained and washrooms are also well maintained. 😊👍

Had a great day out in this area, there is so much to see and do within a short walking distance from this grand Masjid. It looks more like a palace, from the front of this Masjid, Charminar is visible to the left and a huge hospital (shifakhana) which also looks like a palace is directly opposite. The whole area around Charminar is packed with tourists from all backgrounds and religions. Lots of birds, even with hundreds of people it felt very peaceful. Also it’s walking distance from Chowmahalla Palace so make sure you go there as well. I think this may even be the largest or at least one of the largest Masjid I’ve ever been to.

Mecca Masjid, Hyderabad Construction of Hyderabad's Mecca Masjid, one of the world's largest mosques – and one of the oldest in India – began in 1614 during Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah's reign and took almost 80 years to complete. Large enough to accommodate 10,000 worshipers, this beautiful mosque's 15 enormous arches and pillars were each wrought from single slabs of black granite dragged to the site by huge cattle trains reputedly consisting of up to 1,400 bulls. Taking its name from the bricks above the central gate that were brought here from Mecca, this impressive complex features highlights such as its main gateway, a huge plaza, and a large manmade pond. There's also a room that houses the hair of Prophet Mohammed. Other notable features include inscriptions from the Quran above many of the arches and doors, the exquisite roof of the main hall, and the cornices around the entire mosque structure. Look out for the exquisite floral motifs and friezes over the arches.

Masjid al-Haram. Makkah Masjid or Mecca Masjid, is a congregational mosque in Hyderabad, India. It is one of the largest mosques in India with a capacity of 10,000 people. The mosque was built during the 17th century, and is a state-protected monument. It serves as the primary mosque for the Old City of Hyderabad, and is located close to the historic landmarks of Charminar, Chowmahalla Palace and Laad Bazaar. Muhammad Qutb Shah, the sixth ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, commissioned bricks to be made from the soil brought from Mecca, the holiest site of Islam, and used them in the construction of the central arch of the mosque, thus giving the mosque its name. The complex was put by UNESCO on its "tentative list" to become a World Heritage Site in 2014, with others in the region, under the name Monuments and Forts of the Deccan Sultanate (despite there being a number of different sultanates) The construction of the Makkah Masjid began in the year 1617 CE, during the reign of Sultan Muhammad Qutb Shah, the sixth Qutb Shahi Sultan of Golconda (now Hyderabad). The ruler personally laid its foundation stone. Around 8,000 workers were employed to build the mosque. It was completed by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1693.The three arched facades[dubious – discuss] have been carved from a single piece of granite, which took five years to quarry.

One of the oldest masjid in India…Must visit if you are in hyderabad. There is a huge market just outside the masjid..definitely a must visit. It is indeed one of the most attractive examples of Muslim architecture. The Jama Masjid is located only a few kilometers away from the Charminar in Hyderabad. The fifth king of Qutub Shahi Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah built the Jama Masjid in the year 1597 AD after completing the Charminar. It is the oldest Mosque in Hyderabad and also have the ruins of a Turkish bath in its premises.

Makkah Masjid or Mecca Masjid, is a congregational mosque in Hyderabad, India. It is one of the largest mosques in India with a capacity of 10,000 people. The mosque was built during the 17th century. Women shall wear dupattas to enter the masjid premises and men with shorts are not allowed inside. The surprising thing is that, Cameras are not allowed to take photos of the masjid even from the street but you can took as many photos with Mobile Camera even inside the Masjid.. Strange people.. Strange laws..!!

I visited Mecca Masjid on a weekday. It was not that crowd and went for asar prayer. There is no ticket requirement for going inside. I felt the water is little polluted. Locals are friendly. There are restrictions for camera. But somehow we took it inside. Ladies can pray from outside.
