These are 200 year old tombs created in the memory of the Paigahs, the noble men of the Nizams. The architecture is very different from the usual tombs we see. This place is going under renovation and hopefully sooner we will see them in great condition.

Its a hidden treasure within the city. A small entrance gate and a below average surrounding, can possibly make you think that it cannot be a great tourist spot. But once you enter the tombs and look at the beautiful architecture, you are bound to get blown away. Explore your creativity by taking great picture with and through the walls 😃 P.S.: Don't expect too much from the place. It's always better to feel surprised than to feel disappointed.

The Paigah Tombs in Hyderabad are a breathtaking blend of Indo-Islamic architecture 🕌🤩, fusing the Asaf Jahi and Rajputana styles. These tombs, while not widely known as a tourist spot, hold a rich history and a mesmerizing aesthetic that's well worth exploring. Finding them may not be a walk in the park, as Google Maps and even some locals might struggle to guide you due to road work. The Paigah Tombs are a testament to the nobility of the Paigah family, who were staunch supporters of the Nizams, serving as statespeople, philanthropists, and generals alongside them. Also known as Maqhbara Shams al-Umara, these tombs, situated near Owaisi Hospital, are under the care of the Aga Khan Trust, and entry is free. Surprisingly, there are no signs, not even on the compound wall or gate. Parking is a bit of a hassle, and the upkeep isn't perfect, despite the remarkable architecture. It's a worthwhile visit, provided you're not spooked by the idea of 'tombs' 😝. #PaigahTombs #PaigahFamily #Paigah #OldCity #Hyderabad #Tombs #Telangana #India #CityOfPearls #Travel #Explore #Learn #Respect #History #HistoryOfIndia #WorthAVisit #Intricate #IntricateDesign #India These tombs bear testimony to the legacy of the Paigah family, intimately tied to the Nizams and entrusted with various responsibilities for generations. The tombs stand as a testament to Hyderabad's heritage and culture with their splendid design. Dating back to the 18th century, these structures, over 200 years old, were recently recognized as protected monuments under UNESCO. Hidden amidst a residential area, veiled by trees and dust, they remained largely forgotten. Only the mosque in one corner saw regular use for prayers. 🕌🌳🏛️ Not many were aware of these gems, as they lay secluded, reflecting a blend of Persian, Nizami, Mughalai, and Bahamadi Sultanate styles. Social networking apps like Facebook and Instagram have spurred renewed interest, drawing visitors to this hidden treasure. The entrance appears vast and sealed, giving no hint of the magnificent monument concealed within. But as you step inside, you're transported into a world of intricate carvings and stunning jaali walls crafted from white limestone and plaster of Paris. 🚶‍♂️🪨🌟 The domes, wooden doors, and samadhis display meticulous craftsmanship, reflecting the attention to detail that went into every aspect of this place. The architecture is a masterpiece, adorned with intricate leaves, flowers, and arches, inviting you to step back in time into the Paigah dynasty. Remarkably, this hidden gem lies in the heart of the city, with easy access from Santosh Nagar and Owaisi Hospital. It's just a short walk away. Parking is minimal, and there's currently no entrance fee. It's hard to believe that such a beautiful work of art lies unattended in the heart of the city. This place is a paradise for those with an eye for detail and a deep appreciation for art. The walls of the tombs are adorned with meticulously crafted designs, creating a calm, relaxing, and peaceful atmosphere. 🌿🌺🕊️🏙️

It's an historical landmark but lesse known place. It's recommended to visit in a group as not much tourist visits there. But the people assigned for maintenance are so nice & you won't feel uncomfortable. The place has lots of tombs & a prayer house. Archeology students can visit

Love architecture? Then it's a must visit place. This place is properly maintained despite of no entry fee. The carvings on the walls are marvelous and motifs in floral designs and inlaid mosaic tile-works, the tombs are exquisite to walk around. The tombs and their walls are delicately carved and enclosed in pierced marble facades, some of them in rows and some with beautifully carved screens and canopies. Tip: If you're going to visit don't forget to carry your socks with you because you gotta walk barefoot.

So attached to the history and culture of my city. Paigah nobles were the high rank nobles of the Asif Jahi era. I simply love visiting this place anytime and I prefer spending sometime alone at the tomb of Sir Vikhar Ul Umra. Those fond if history and culture should visit thos place without fail. Missing it means missing an integral part of the history of Deccan.

A beautiful monument of the Paigah family, who were close to nizams and took care of the various activities of nizams for generations are the Paigah dynasty people whose tombs are very well designed and contribute to the heritage and culture of Hyderabad. Started in the 18th century, more than 200 years old, these monuments are Recently declared as protected monument under UNESCO. The tombs were hidden densely in the residential area, coverd with trees and dust. I must say not many knew about these and the tombs were left to their own fate and only the Masjid in one of the corners was regularly used for prayers. People almost forgot this monument built in mixed architecture including a little of Persian, nizami, mughalai and bahamadi sultnate styles. Thanks to social networking apps, Facebook and Instagram, people now are visiting this place. The entrance is vast and closed, no one actually even feels if there is such a wonderful and beautiful monument inside. Once we enter inside, we are mesmerized by the beauty of the carvings and especially the jaali walls, made of white line and plaster of Paris... The gumbads, the wodden doors, the samadhis, everything have been finely carved and may be the people took care on every minute thing in this place. The architecture is so detailed, with leaves, flowers and arches that one forgets time, i must agree we time travel into the paigah dynasty. Also the place is not far away, and lies in the heart of the city. One can reach Santosh nagar and Owaisi hospital which are very famous. It's a walkable distance from here. There is minimal parking and no ticket for now. For now I am sharing some photos and videos.

The intricate Indo-Islamic architecture (a mix of both the Asaf Jahi and the Rajputana styles) of these tombs will make you fall in awe of this place. Paigah tombs in Hyderabad is not so famous tourist spot and it was evident by the fact that neither Google maps (due to works on the usual road) nor a few of the locals could take us to the spot hassle-free. Paigah Tombs belong to the nobility of Paigah family, who were fierce loyalists of the Nizams, served as statespeople, philanthropists and generals under and alongside them. Also called as the Maqhbara Shams al-Umara, located a few hundred metres away from the Owaisi Hospital, these tombs are maintained by the Aga Khan Trust and entry is free. Like a few other historically significant structures in the old city, this place also does not have any signage, even on its own compound wall/gate. No good parking space and not we’ll maintained, given the fact that it’s architecture is amazing. Worth a visit if you are not scared of ‘tombs’ 😝. #PaigahTombs #PaigahFamily #Paigah #OldCity #Hyderabad #Tombs #Telangana #India #CityOfPearls #Travel #Explore #Learn #Respect #History #HistoryOfIndia #WorthAVisit #Intricate #IntricateDesign #India

These are the tombs of Paigah Community who migrated to India in the 18th Century and were very influential. They are close to the Nizams and held highest positions in Nizams army. The tombs are an work of art lying neglected. It's a small piece of our diverse history. The architecture in particular is beautifu, it's a mix of Mughal, Persian/middle eastern and India Architecture. A must visit.

One of the lesser visited places in the old city, perhaps due to its location. The place is beautiful, but not nearly as exaltingly so as the photos make it seem. The tombs are in a state of disrepair and restoration work is in progress as of October 2023.

It is one of the lesser known historical places in Hyderabad. Not easy to go there due poor approach road to the tombs and the surrounding area is densely populated. Still it is worth visiting. Beautiful and unique floral and geometric design patterns on the walls of tomb can amaze any design lover. At present it is being renovated.

🔖 Paigah Tombs may look deserted and totally uncared for, but on a closer look, you will find the place quite enthralling. With marvelous carvings and motifs in floral designs and inlaid mosaic tile-works, the tombs are exquisite to walk around. 🔖 The tombs and their walls are delicately carved and enclosed in pierced marble facades, some of them in rows and some with beautifully carved screens and canopies. 🔖 They are almost obscure and a marvelous piece of artistry in marble lost in time. The Indo-Islamic architecture is a mix of both the Asaf Jahi and the Rajputana styles of architecture. You will also see décor in fabulous stucco work, representing the Mughal, Persian and Deccan style too. 🔖 The geometrical designs with their perforated screens are unique in their make and craftsmanship. . . . . . The architecturally and historically beautiful place in Hyderabad. But it is also the most underrated and neglected structure in Hyderabad. The tombs of Paigahs have astonishingly beautiful carved walls, decorated tombs and marble claddings. The ambience is so peaceful that we often visit the place and spend a quality time there.
