It’s not a very modern museum but the enthusiastic staffs definitely had out lots of efforts to illustrate the history of ibaraki prefecture. Mito isn’t really a touristy city and there aren’t really a lot of foreign visitors, so 99.99% of the illustrations and displays in the museum don’t come with English, but with my very limited Japanese I still enjoyed my visit a lot. My only wish was that the museum could be a little bit bigger.

The history displayed ranges from the earliest foundings of sceletons, the Edo times till today. Showing daily live, invtentions and discoveries, and politics during these times. It also bares interactive objects. Sadly I understood almost nothing as besides the brochure there is nothing in English. 2 Stars for my disappointment that a museum displaying the history of Ibaraki has nothing translated.

If you have the time the museum is quick and informative with a beautiful garden. On too of all that the entrance fee is inexpensive and English is spoken by several of the staff.

The grounds outside the museum are lovely and free to walk through. The displays inside the museum are cool as well, though most displays don’t have any English.

I took a stroll around the site, but the plums were blooming and I could not feel the whole area, but I could feel the scent of spring. I couldn't go around yet so I want to come again. The way to enter the hall from the parking lot has been turned around without knowing well. (Translated by Google) I came to see a special exhibition "History and Culture of 800 Years of Satake". It was a weekday, but there were quite a few people. I was impressed to see what I knew in historical novels and others in real things and records. The former Mizukaido Elementary School and the former Mito Agricultural High School Main Building have been relocated in the garden, so you can tour inside the elementary school. In addition, there is a row of ginkgo trees, and autumn leaves are beautiful. Shiraume is beautiful. (Translated by Google) On March 8th (Sun), I heard that there was an exhibit related to Mr. Satake, a royal tribe before Mito's Tokugawa rule, and went to Satake exhibition. Do I have a lot of weapons, armor and tea utensils on display? I went out expecting myself, but unfortunately most books were disappointing. However, I don't usually know about Satake, so was that good? I thought it was 3 evaluations. As an additional note, it takes about 5 minutes on foot from the parking lot to the Satake Exhibition and the entrance fee is 610 yen! There are wheelchairs and strollers in the venue. The period is until Sunday, February 2, so if you are interested, please go there.

(Translated by Google) As expected, there are only locals and the exhibits related to Mito Tokugawa family and Satake are substantial. Among them, Hakubi is probably the helmet of Yoshinobu who was the head of Satake at the time of Sekigahara. The helmet and the standing thing (decoration of the forehead part) have a black, fluffy thing reminiscent of Kogekame's gegegeji eyebrows, and it is also drawn in the portrait at the time, but what is it? It was a mystery to me for a long time. That question was finally thawed in the museum's instructions. What a true caterpillar! As you might think, caterpillars could not be backed, so it was a popular motif for samurai as a sign of determination to keep going. I learned later that my father, Yoshige, was also a caterpillar helmet.
