(Original) 清水太郎の逆井城探訪記 　平成２１年１１月２２日にかねてからの願いであった、茨城県坂東市にある逆井城を仕事のついでに訪れる事ができた。天候は快晴、気温は１６度。 　逆井城の歴史　逆井城は飯沼に臨む標高２０mの台地先端にあり、城の北側は飯沼が洗い、西側は入江の蓮沼に接していました。飯沼は江戸時代の新田開発により湖水はなくなりましたが、およそ幅１km・南北３０kmにわたり、その名残を残しています。今から約４１０年前（城の複元された時期）の戦国時代に、此の飯沼が後北条氏と佐竹・結城氏・多賀谷氏らの領国の境目でした。進攻を続ける後北条氏は飯沼に築城をはじめ、天正５年（１５５７）１０月、北条氏繁（玉縄城主）は、藤沢より城の建物をつくるため大鋸引の職人をよんでいます。城主となった氏繁は、盛んに佐竹・下妻方面の動静を報告していますが、翌天正６年（１５５８）にこの飯沼城中で没し、その後氏舜が城代となりました。天正１８年、豊臣秀吉は小田原城に後北条氏を滅し、この飯沼城も廃城となりました(現地案内板)。飯沼の中央西岸、猿島台地の縁に逆井城がある。後北条氏の築城技術の粋を集めて築城された城である。『関八州古戦録』などによると風間孫右衛門・石塚氏らの忍者集団３００人を当城に入れたという記事がある。忍者による警護体制を物語るものとして注目されるという。逆井城は平成２・３年度に一部が復元された。 　北条氏政は、古河公方足利義氏の本拠地であったこの地方に栗橋城と関宿城・水海城を構築、北条氏照を置き、北方進出の拠点とした（拙者ブログ「戦国残照」を参照されたい）。後北条氏の拠点となる以前、逆井城には逆井氏を名乗る豪族があったといわれる。伝承では後北条氏大道寺駿河守が、逆井常繁が守る当城を攻め落城させた、この時、常繁の室とも娘ともいう智御前もしくは智姫が鐘をかぶり、城中の井戸へ身を投げた。この井戸を「鐘堀り池」と呼び今に残る。この時常繁は討死、慰霊は常繁寺となって弔われた、というのである(拙者ブログ「八王子合戦と大道寺駿河守政繁」を参照されたい)。この逆井氏は小山一族と伝え、享徳五年(１４５６)の大宝八幡宮の鐘銘に「逆井尾張守常宗」と刻されているから、逆井氏は実在していたことになる。 　逆井城が築かれた天正五年は後北条氏が常陸・下野勢力と最も激しい戦闘を行った年にあたる。栗橋城にいた氏照は、五月に「去る十五日以来、結城・山川間へ打入、毎日彼領中を打散され候、此度は長陣を遂げられ……」と芦名盛氏に報告。当城に氏照軍が駐屯、飯沼の対岸へ押し出している。尚、西ヶ谷恭弘著『戦国の城　上ー目で見る築城と戦略の全貌』８４頁から８９頁にイラストと写真等がある。 　 ①二層櫓 は戦国時代末期の時代背景を下に、外観二層の姿を復元したものです。櫓は武器・食糧の貯蔵と防御とを目的として設けられました。 ②井楼矢倉　矢倉は敵の動勢の監視と自軍を把握するためのもので、この役割が発展・大規模化したものが近世城郭の天守閣となります。 ③主殿　茨城県牛堀町の大台城遺跡より出土した主殿遺構を参考に建築されたもので、逆井城と同時代に存在していたものです。　 ④鐘堀り池　天文五年(１５３６)、ときの逆井城主逆井常繁は、北条軍に敗れました。この時、城主の奥方(娘ともいわれている)は先祖代々伝わる釣鐘を被ってこの池に飛び込み、自殺したといわれています。 ①から④の順に写真をダウンロードしてあります。 新人物往来社刊改訂『関八州古戦録』２６２頁に「…翌年甲戌(天正二年)の秋、氏政、伊勢備中守貞連(運)に命じて湯田村に縄張させ、砦をかまへて所務方の米穀を悉く取入させ、飯沼のあなたに有し天満天神の社を焼払いて、其地に城を築き、件の兵粮を舟にて城内に運遭なさしめ、風間孫兵衛、石塚藤兵衛に軽卒三百差副て、是を守らしむ。…」とある。逆井城が砦の頃の時か。
