Filled with icebergs floating upon the lake's surface that change hour to hour, the lake is also home to seals. Glassy blue ice means the iceberg has just flipped while white ice means the icebergs have seen a lot of sun. If one has time, the Zodiac tour boat ride is a lot of fun. Recommend arriving here before 9 AM or before the first Zodiac tours go out to find a parking spot and avoid crowds.

Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking! One of the highlights of our trip to Iceland! We originally came here for the meeting point for our ice cave tour, and we were so glad we came early, because we got to see his magnificent blue lagoon with the chunks of ice everywhere in the water. It was so beautiful and amazing with pictures. Highly recommended! Even if you don't have a tour, it's still totally worth coming here just to see this lagoon.

this was an amazing spot. I was so happy to find this place, seeing the ice floating in the water was a dream come true. There was plenty of parking, and it is free too :) I loved the pictures I got for here. The sad part is, this ice is here because the glacier is melting. - visited June 20, 2017

Possibly my best experience in Iceland. Very tranquil and calm. Nothing better than seeing the seals just going about their lives. Can get very cold so wrap up. Food is available and the Fish and Chips were good. Just try to get there before all the tour buses.

Even though it was very cloudy when we arrived here we were still able to see a few icebergs. On a clearer day this would have been an even better spot to watch them slowly float by. I can’t blame the place on the weather, so 5 stars just because it makes for a good iceberg spotting location. The crowds can be big though, depending on the time of day and time of year. Even in Nov there was a decent crowd, as the lot is used as a pick-up point for excursions. Worth the stop since it is right off the road and the blues in the ice make for great photos.

Everybody must see this amazing place. A lot of icebergs in a small area. The view is spectacular. Greenland on a nutshell :)

A very easy hike to see Jökulsárlón. Hardly takes 10 minutes 1 way... take pictures at the top and come bk down... a good change after driving around in iceland and a boat ride. Good way to stretch your legs

Totally worth the stop! The parking lot was PACKED, but we loved seeing the glaciers and icebergs. We didn’t do a tour, and I feel like that was the right call. It was nice to simply enjoy the ice without disturbing it.

Magnificent view of iceberg. Saw seal and puffins. My wife is happy after seeing this. Saw global warming notes and felt bad about it after seeing icebergs and diamonds ice melting. Blue iceberg and glaciers seen. Did not have time for glacier tour today but no regret by coming here even just for phototaking. Fish n chip store closed at 1700hrs which is a bit early oh well else we can have dinner here. For those who wants to do glacier hiking/walking, please book in advance and it usually takes 3 - 4hrs in total for beginner trail so do take note, there are plenty of glacier sessions, don't have to restrict to this area only. Do some research.

One of the most famous spots in Iceland to visit but would it disappoint you? No. The scenery changes everyday as the glacier itself is still on the move. If you have some time or money to spare, feel free to join the boat tour as well to see the glacier pieces floating around. It will make you quite speechless!

Most definitely worth traveling out to see. The icebergs are incredible and change shape constantly. Visit in the morning then come back at evening and you will see a dramatic difference. There's a hike inland along the eastern coast of the lagoon which is mildly interesting. You'd need to trek 10miles+ to get a reasonably better view of the glacier itself so content yourself with the view at the start and also visit some of the other glaciers where you can get a lot lot closer to at ease. This is an outstanding sight any time of day. All the hype about sunset is over-rated unless you are a professional photographer. All the photos you need will be in your mind's eye forever

Visited in July 2022. One of my favourite stops in Iceland! Parking was busy, but it is right near the glacier lagoon. There are washrooms available. You can walk along the area to see the amazing blue icebergs floating down the lagoon. I felt like I was on another planet. Amazing thing to see, but unless you are taking any tours, it's a actually a very quick and convenient stop, so you definitely have to take a few minutes to come here because it's totally worth it.

This place is gorgeous. Seal spotting guaranteed, lots of ice and quite windy. Beautiful scenery! Spacious car park as well. 10/10

An absolute gem!!!!! In late Spring and Summer try to come in the evening 8:30 onward, otherwise to many people blocking the beautiful view. On clear evenings you may enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets.
