We had the set menu and the food was amazing and such good value for money. We got to try the barley crisps & olives, the cauliflower dip & flat bread, chicken wings, ling and beef kebabs. Lastly we had the strawberry, chocolate and hazelnut dessert. Would highly recommend Mat Bar. The staff were lovely, very attentive.

Really good food I was just looking for somewhere still serving food by 3pm, and this was an unexpected delight. I had the celeriac kabob with rice, and it was utterly delicious. Happy hour on everything at the bar all the way through the afternoon was pretty sweet too!

Absolutely phenomenal food! Every item we tried blew us away with its creative flavour profiles. An incredible food experience. Service was fast and friendly. The ambiance is lovely too. Be sure to make a reservation to guarantee your spot. This was the best restaurant in Reykjavik and Iceland, in my opinion.

Oh my! Second time here and it doesn't disappoint. Tapas are very very good. The drinks are so fun. We had a fabulous time.

The atmosphere and the music at Mat Bar when we went was good and generally speaking, most of the members of staff (except for one) were friendly and professional. We only went here for drinks in the middle of the week and on a quiet evening during the low season and we found it bizarre to be told, in a rather unfriendly tone, to sit at the bar rather than a table by one member of the staff. Though after that, this same member of staff was more professional but the first interaction shouldn’t have been leaning towards unwelcoming in the first place. Overall, we had an OK time at MatBar and would consider another visit next time we’re in Reykjavík.

Cannot recommend enough. Small-ish place, but didn't feel too crowded. Great variety of tapas to choose from, and everything I got was absolutely delicious. Great selection of drinks. I had a couple of natural wines that I loved. Service was also incredibly quick, and our server was hilarious. Very welcoming environment in general. I had a lot of fun here, and definitely did not leave hungry. Prices may be a little higher than average, but I definitely think it's worth it.

Had some great cocktails here one afternoon while staying in Reykjavik. Wish we had time to have tried the food as well, it smelled delicious. Good date spot.

Managed to get a bar table from walking in on a Sat night. Great flavours in the food. Tapas style dishes with a twist of middle eastern flavours. The cauliflower dips with flatbread was amazing! Kale salad was also really good.

Had a really enjoyable tapas in this restaurant, the dishes were very unique with amazing attention to detail and tasty ingredients, the waiter explained every dish when they were presented to our table. Definitely recommend!

Absolutely must visit! Great food and extremely nice, accommodating service. The mozzarella should not be missed. Our only regret is that they were not open on our last day, a Sunday, for us to go a second time. But they deserve a rest. So good!

What a find!! As someone lactose intolerant it’s not the easiest to find Icelandic food that’s not just vegan. Great menu with lots of options I struggled to decide. Friendly attentive staff and a lovely atmosphere. Walking away very happy full.

So… I was recommended this bar/amazing restaurant from the bartender up the street as I was looking for something with food. WOW !!! It was amazing! the food, drinks and service were simply amazing !! Well done team at MAT BAR. i would highly recommend this for both visitors and locals. Had a fantastic time and would definitely go back. The Lamb tartar and Charr roe are simply fantastic. If you are a foodie you’ll love it. If you love cocktails there’s a mixology expert working there. I hope you enjoy and share an amazing review.

Loved it; service, atmosphere, menu, everything. It is entertaining to see the chefs in action in the kitchen and the dishes being put together. My friend and I shared the flatbread with the very tasty gremolata, the mozzarella bathed in oil, the squid salad, brocolis, and the cod crudo. Everything was good, but my favorite was the crudo, lots of textures with seeds ans nuts. The housemade limoncello was a nice final touch. They also had a great wine list and the place was cozy with dim lights. Highly recommend

Phenomenal food, top during our entire trip to Iceland. We had the mushroom tempura, cod crudo, haddock, cauliflower dips and lamb. Everything was delicious, particularly the mushroom. The pita bread that came with the dip was perhaps some of the best I’ve ever had. The service was warm and attentive - they kept the kitchen open just for us when we were running late. Would highly recommend anyone who visits Iceland to come to this place.

Ridiculously creative food, exceptionally executed. Vegan options and tasting menus for both available. Awesome bar. Fantastic casual-friendly service, improving otherwise above average ambiance. You want to eat here. Only a few tables, get reservations ahead of time.

We stumbled upon Mat Bar a bit late but still could order just before the kitchen was closing off. Great vegan/vegetarian options but in small sharing portions. Nice cocktails too !

Excellent tapas. We loved the cauliflower dip, the cod, the celeriac cannelloni, and the lobster tacos. The ribeye was okay, but I wish I had ordered the broccoli instead. They are allergy friendly and accommodated my gluten allergy well.

The flavors of the food were outstanding and the service very attentive and friendly. Glad we found it and highly recommend it.
