This restaurant in the basement of an old home/church has been in the family for the owner for many years. The interior setting is reminiscent of an ale house so learn to be cozy with your neighbor. The owner and servers delighted us with tales of the location and history while the meals were being prepared. For our dinner had a selection of 8 different types of fish prepared with about 2 styles per fish. There was also a soup & salad selection on the side for those wanted more than just fish. This was one of the best highlights from my trip to Iceland because of it's home-like atmosphere. Make sure you book this early as rarely will they have walk-in available.

Do not skip this restaurant! The best fish I’ve ever eaten by FAR. Highly recommend the full buffet experience. Cozy atmosphere with friendly staff and great music from a record player. We came here twice on our trip and loved it both times. Especially enjoyed the starter fish soup. Worth the money!!

Do not miss this little gem of a restaurant. It is such a special experience. The food is amazing, especially the fish soup. But even better is just the whole experience of trying all kinds of different fish, all good, and for an excellent price! One of the highlights of our whole trip to Iceland. Family owned. And so friendly. The only suggestion I would have is to number the tables and start the buffet in a more organized way. Other than that I would say it was a perfect experience and I highly recommend!

Dinner is served at 7 pm. It's a buffet style dinner, but they are organized and make the process smooth and easy. You need a reservation most of the time. Before you have dinner you can sit there and order drinks. The food was phenomenal (some of the best fish I've had in iceland). The drinks were good and strong! There is no dessert & it would be nice if they had some, but you can get coffee, cookies & chocolate instead. The price was about 70$ per person.

You have to go here and try the food, we came for the lunch buffet and hands down the best food experience we had in Iceland. I miss the soup so much I've attempted to make it at home. Definitely recommend making a reservation.

A very unique fish restaurant in the town of Isafjörður, in the Westfjörds of Iceland, that is known for its tasty lobster/ fish soup and all you can eat fish buffets .... with a variety of fresh salads and fish dishes served in large skillets ... that arrive steaming hot from the kitchen! I loved the soup and fried breaded traditional Icelandic gellur( fleshy white muscle found under and behind the fish's tongue) ... that were the best I've ever tasted! 👍😋👍😋 Actually I think there were too many choices ... as too much of a good thing doesn't always allow one to savour the quality and uniqueness of the food! Fortunately I had been warned ahead if time what to expect and thus stuck to tasting a few items ... and enjoying them. 😋😋😋 And thus ... I'm already looking forward to tasting different dishes on my next visit, that I hope will be soon! NB: The seating arrangements ( on long common wooden tables ) are a bit tight ... so weather permitting, I prefer the few outdoor tables when available! 😊😊 Last but not least.... always call ahead and make a reservation! This past summer there were 2 seatings ... at 18.00 & 21.00 ... and nearly always fully booked! 😉

Hands-down the best restaurant in Iceland. Maybe in all of Scandinavia. If their tourism bureau paid Michelin to go up there, this restaurant would rate two stars. It’s that good. It’s not “fancy”, so they couldn’t rate it ***. It is most certainly worth a special trip.

Best food we had in Iceland! You come in here, you sit down with people you don't know (which gives you the oppertunity to get to know new people) at long tables and you get to enjoy the best fish buffet ever. The atmosphere is top. The people so friendly, cool and chill. For us it was the best dinner/food experience in whole Iceland. It was so worth its price and I would recommand it to everybody.

One of the best restaurants I went to in the whole of Iceland. The fish is so so so good. Great variety of fish and styles. They tell you to not fill up with the fish soup so you can eat more of the fish, but it's so difficult because the soup is so absolutely amazing! Probably top 2 soups in Iceland along with the one at the doctor's house. The cod cheeks were my favourite, but everything was delicious. Even the side dishes are very good. I really enjoyed having some fresh fruit and light vegetables, which are not as common in other restaurants. I ended up rolling back home, could barely move after eating so much. Shout out to the blond guy who speaks Spanish and explains how everything works in a very funny way, he was very helpful and welcoming to us. Also the very tall waiter was very friendly. All the staff was great. 10/10 would come again if I ever come to this part of the world again.

Spectacular! The most amazing fish soup I’ve ever had, and a buffet of incredible dishes from delicious fish to buttery mashed potatoes to a blueberry and greens salad; coffee, tea, and wines were available; the ambiance was like a cozy food hall with great vinyl records playing. The meal was also given an astounding level of showmanship from the head chef.

As a vegetarian, I didn't expect so much, but my partner eats fish and it's a must of Isafjordur, so we tried and... We weren't be more happy, the options as a vegetarian are perfect, there are many foods and plates to try, and the price is less if you don't eat fish. My partner says that the fish here was one of the best of her life 🐟 Before going here, you have to book in advance, but the experience deserve it, the place, ambience, food... The experience was perfect here!! 💯😋

My husband and I have been waiting over a year to get back here so we could eat at Tjöruhúsið as we had been visiting town last year and this place had such a line. We were glad we came back just for dinner here. This was by far the best fish dinner we have had in the 4 years of visiting Iceland. It's a very cozy little spot so definitely book ahead or ensure you show up when they open to reserve a table for dinner service that night. Everything is served buffet style. All of the staff is very friendly and ensures you are having a lovely time.

I have never had better food in my life. It is not some ordinary fish. OMG those flavours and herbs. They even have gluten free variant. It is all you can eat. You need to have a reservation. It is small and really cramped space where it is veeeery loud so I do not reccomend for small children. Also tho food is quite spicy. And we had to wait 70 minutes for the main course and 25 minutes for the soup. Alltogether, 4/5. The food is honestly best but the waiting time took it down.

We came between the first ones for the lunch menu. The fish soup with tiny shrimps is level up from delicious. I just love so much warm bread and butter with this creamy heaven. Selection of at least five fish meals, each different, juicy and very tasty. Great sides. Best meal we had on Iceland. Gastroporn

Large communal tables filled with enthusiastic seafood lovers. “Pan buffet” of the day’s catch prepared in various savory ways. Ling Cod, Halibut, Salt cod, Wolf fish, Cod cheeks On the day we visited. Viking beer. VERY casual and festive crowd. Make a reservation.

Different types of fish cooked in various delicious ways. A must try if you are in the vicinity. Do visit with an empty stomach because it is a buffet - one of the only buffets I have had where I felt that each dish had heart and soul behind it.

Amazing all you can eat, just like the others have mentioned. Funky presentation, and then delicious fish and vegetarian (!!!) dishes to follow that my vegetarian partner was able to enjoy. If you don’t reserve well in advance, it’s possible to just show up at 6pm and sit outside (there are 4-5 tables).

Dinner here is amazing. Starts with an introduction, a soup and then many sides and fish dishes. Despite it being a quiet fall evening with only 14 or so guests, they brought out 8 or so different fish dishes including cod, cod cheeks, halibut, rainbow trout, wolffish, plaice and more! We met the owner, the owner’s brother and the lady who lives in the museum next door! Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend this restaurant as the highlight of Icelandic seafood offerings!

Amazing little place with delicious fresh fish! As starter they served a magnificent fish soup and afterwards a pan full of different kinds of fish. Would recommend this to everybody. And by the way they have a handsome general manager ;)

Absolutely fantastic! We went based on all the good reviews and we were still blown away. This place definitely has its own vibe and we really enjoyed it. We had white fish five ways as the protein choice for the dinner and each one was better than the last.

We went there for lunch and loved it! The soup was amazing! My partner is celiac so we asked about gluten free options and the chef prepared all the fish and sides separately for him in his own skillet. They were so accommodating. The atmosphere is great, food is amazing, and views breathtaking as you step outside! Cannot miss this place if visiting Westfjords!

Best fish we’ve tasted in Iceland! The hosts were so wonderful and funny too. Their dinner is usually from 6-8 then 8-10. So call ahead and ask to make a reservation (and make sure they are open, and can give them dietary restrictions). Bathroom is across the courtyard, and they have wonderful coffee & tea here. Would recommend anyone coming through isafjord to try!!!

3 words can explain this experience of eating in Iceland "Best fish ever!" We were recommended this eatery from our last campsite and couldn't be happier. It was about to close when we arrived, but the owner gave us a break in price as long as we didn't mind the work they were doing to turn the place. They offered fresh brown trout, halibut, cusk, monkfish, redfish, and of course our seafood soup! I am still having a craving to come back for more . . .

This was for sure the best fish we’ve eaten in Iceland. The buffet serves fish caught fresh on the day. The fish soup was exceptional. The fish on the buffet comes in all types, from sweet and sour to olive glazed..

👍👍 Nice English guy serving so he can tell you about the locality. Beer flights and samples available. Everything brewed here on the premises. I had an enjoyable whiskey barrel barley wine 12%.
