We had a wonderful evening yesterday with two charming, warm-hearted hosts. The food was delicious (grilled lamb and grilled chicken) and the portions were large. Because I wanted to try a particular vodka, they mixed me an extra cocktail which I can only recommend if you like something like moscow mule ask for a blue drink with Loki vodka, unfortunately I couldn't remember the Icelandic name). If we come to Iceland again we will definitely visit Bara :)

We stopped here for dinner and drinks and had an wonderful night. The Sausage and Mash was yummy and my son had the Pulled Pork and said it was delicious! The bar was stocked with only Icelandic micro brews which were amazing! The bartender/ owner Hlynur helped us navagate all of the choices and all of his suggestions were on point with with our taste. He joined us at our table later and we had a wonderful conversation. We went for dinner and a drink but left with a great experience! Please stop in if you are in the area it won't disappoint!

We had a great meal and experience at BARA especially after a long days drive. Friendly staff, fun atmosphere. Would highly recommend the pulled pork sandwich and fries!

My fiancé and I had a great experience eating dinner here with some really good Icelandic beers! The owners were very welcoming and helpful, and they had a great sense of humor. They even insisted that we have tasters of some beers as we were deciding what to drink. We also loved the cozy, warm atmosphere and the music choices. This place is a must-visit for anyone who likes craft beer or simply enjoys friendly service!

Staff is incredibly friendly, food is amazing, and portion sizes are not as small as in some other restaurants. The restaurant has some jokes hidden around the room, great atmosphere, aside from wanting to eat here again I'd be willing to work in such a great place!

This place is amazing. I can't recommend the Fish and Chips and Lamb Chops enough! Google limits me to five stars, but my actual rating is 19/10. Simply amazing.

We found Bara Borgarnes to be the best restaurant that we visited in Iceland. The host was so nice and inviting and he really created an excellent atmosphere (the food was also amazing). We were a little sad we had to miss the men's choir practice due to making it back to our hotel before a winter storm, but we definitely plan on going back the next time we are in Iceland. Also, the cups and bowls are some of the best I've ever seen.

Fairly small restaurant so we had to wait a little while but we knew it would be so worth it. It did not disappoint! The portions were plentiful. I had the charred cabbage which was delicious. My family ordered the fish and chips, chicken burger, and lamb steak burger. My husband wasn’t a big fan of lamb from a bad experience about 20 years ago but the owner convinced him to try the lamb steak, and my husband has said since it was the best meal he had our entire trip. Very tender with great flavor. Don’t miss this place. If I lived close to this restaurant I would be there all the time.

Lovely little restaurant in centre of Borgarnes. Limited menu (main courses only) but food was amazing. (We had the lamb chops). Very friendly and welcoming host and nice cosy atmosphere. Would definitely recommend over the larger chain type places. Would certainly go again.

Thankfully we searched Google prior to making dinner plans and the insane reviews on this restaurant are no joke! It was a phenomenal experience, one of the best we have had since arriving in Iceland. As we entered, our host immediately recognized us as foreign and made jokes before inviting us to sit down. Once we settled in, he came back to tell us all about the Icelandic beer they offer. When I asked for a cocktail instead, he said he knew just the thing and told me if I don't like it, I don't pay. Well I loved it! After we ordered our meal, a local struck up some engaging conversation with us! After the host heard I worked with meat back home, he threw a lamb chop on the grill for me as a gift. Just because it's the best around and I needed to have it. The lamb chop, the lamb steak on sourdough and the lamb burger were all phenomenal!! This lamb really is in a league all of its own. They educated us on the farming practices of the sheep. It was really fascinating and gave us special insight into Icelandic life. After our meal, we were invited to stay and hear local choirs practice at the bar, which is so endearing to see a community so supportive of their brothers and sisters! We absolutely loved our experience tonight and would recommend it to anyone. If we have the chance to visit Iceland again, it may just be our first stop!

Food was amazing. Had the fish and chips and a cocktail. It was amazing. I would recommend the experience of the Icelandic dessert too. Only place you can find it quite like that.

It is worth visiting Borgarnes for this restaurant alone - Food was amazing - we were convinced by the chef to order different meals and share - so glad we did - the fish and the lamb chops were outstanding. Great selection of local beers that they change out regularly and the staff are so friendly- had a great chat with the chef over our dessert beers. Oh and don’t miss the world’s smallest saltshaker museum

If you are staying or cruising through Borgarnes, do yourself a favor and stop by Bara! It has a great local feel, great food, and super friendly staff. So happy we stopped by, it was a very memorable part of our visit to Iceland!

Very nice and cosy pub to go to. Different kinds of Icelandic draftbeers (and lot of other beers) and simple but tasteful food (3 choices; soup, fish and chips and pulled pork). Next time, we will certainly come back.

So cute, good menu, the sweetest Bartenders. Gave us tips on how to enjoy our time here, and helped us out when another patron made us uncomfortable. My friend lost her passport here and they brought it to the hotel where we were staying. She didn't even know it was missing! Spend some time here. You won't regret it.

This restaurant was the best one we ate at on our 8 day tour of Iceland. The owner was extremely friendly, played us some Icelandic music, and recommended great beer! The pulled pork was delicious and the atmosphere was fun, I would give it 6 stars if I could!

Great bar. Spent a night in this town before our way to west Iceland. Decided to go for a drink and this place was great: 1. All beer is from Iceland from micro breweries with lots of choice, and tastes great 2. Great candlelit vibe 3. Great staff - owned by two couples. Very friendly. One of the owners sat down and had a beer with us talking all things Icelandic. I would highly recommend this place. I can't read the handwriting of the owner that served and sat with us, but a friendly guy with glasses, and goes by the name of Thor!

Excellent place! Very friendly, welcoming, and helpful staff. High quality food, generous portion sizes, and fair prices (at least by Iceland standards). The place has a cool kitschy vibe, including "the world's smallest salt shaker museum" in one of the bathrooms.

Greatest culinary discovery in Iceland so far! The service and food were out of this world. I ordered the grilled lamb chops (signature dish) which were TO DIE FOR. If you have the chance, order the pure Icelandic dessert. It’s a whole experience 😉 I definitely recommend this place to all visitors!

Such a wonderful place ! The owner is soooooo nice and a beer passionate! The food is simple and super tasty, the tap beers are fines ! If you come in Borgarnes, please make a stop here ! And the owner have a small tuktuk to deliver his beers to the local stadium during football matches ! Wow ! Thank you. A lot for your warming welcome yesterday South of France Friends

One of the few bars in town open late! The food menu is very limited, 5 items, but the pulled pork sandwich was the best we had on entire trip! Also beers are from the local micro breweries are delicious!! Also had live music and looked like a place locals would gather at on a Saturday night. Very lovely!

This place is amazing. The food and beer options were absolutely delicious (sure, small menu - so are most menus on the island, but it's about quality not quantity), the staff was super friendly and provided my family with great recommendations to other bars around the island. To top it off, they had "boys choir" that night, which at first I thought would be annoying loud music. Instead, it was a group of locals that gather together to just hang out, have beers, and sing folklore songs (I'm hooked on the Krummavisur song now). The only con is that you guys have ruined all other bars for me. Please keep doing what you are doing. Looking forward to my next visit, we will have to stay in the area just to make sure we spend some time at this place, during a choir night.
