    An excellent backwater cruise managed by govt. Call them up to know the best time of the day. If during high tide, the boat can go deep into mangroves

    Excellent natural beauty...have facility for a wooden boat ride... approximate cost 800 for an hour ...can enjoy the ride through mangroves...also good for bird watching

    My wife came across a person on Instagram who provided guided tours in Calicut covering some historical spots, places with natural beauty, etc. On the tour we went on, we started by going on an hour long boat trip on the Kadalundi river. It was really beautiful experience. I learnt for the first time that there were around 10 types of mangroves in the forest. It is also a bird sanctuary but we didn't see too many types of birds. The best part was being able to go inside the mangrove forest and seeing small mangroves coming up that would in the future become big trees. The boat ride was not expensive either, probably because it was not a motor boat. Overall, this was a unique experience and one I wasn't expecting during my visit to Kerala.

    You get an amazing view of the Kandal Eco system here. The guides are very good. The place is well preserved and reasonably clean. Go there at the time of high tide if you want to go through every nuke and corner of the place. Go in the morning or evening if you want to see birds. Go around late November or December January if you wish to see migratory birds.
