Visited this place on our Kobe visit. The zoo allows children to enter for free and adults pay 600¥. Parking is 400¥. Overall, the zoo was nice. It was quiet, and it had a large range of animals to see. We came here on a Tuesday, and there were barely any people there at 12pm. The red panda and koalas were very adorable and it was funny to sit down and watch them walk on branches and do other things. A downside is that most of the major attractions like sea lions and polar bears had been closed, this isn't the park's fault (an animal probably passed away or got sick) but however the elephant's enclosure felt cramped, dark, and depressing so we felt a little bad for the elephant.

Visited this place today. It was overall a good experience. So many animals to see. Just didn't get the chance to see my personal favorite animal "PANDA" as it was sick🥹. I hope he recovers from his sickness very soon! It's fun to spend time here with friends, family or your beloved one. For adults it will cost 600¥ per person. It's best to go early after 9a.m. as it closes soon around 5p.m.

We had wonderful days time at zoo, my daughter who is 2 years old enjoyed very much. Been here 3 times and still need more days to explore. It’s so big, clean and well organized. Waiting line was quite long in front of the panda’s gate, might take your time. The last time we came here we couldn’t see the panda because of panda’s not good condition. My baby was little bit disappointed about it. I wish I checked it carefully on web before visiting, no wonder why the zoo was not so crowded as usual. The playground is interesting too. Don’t forget to visit the souvenir shop before you left, you might find something cute there ;)

I was really upset to see the animals. Most of them looked depressed. I saw animals just by themselves, alone walking around in circles. Do better Oji zoo. It’s 2022. The welfare of animals really matter. Do better…

Half of the animals were not there, but no information was said on the website. I do love elephants, so gained a star for them. I saw a monkey in a small cage in the sun.... looks like he was just left there and he looked very unhappy. A small cage in an enclosure? Direct sunlight too? Seems cruel to me. I did like the bear though. Just seems weird to advertise a panda but not have a panda...

Zoo and amusement park in one place. Coming here in weekend afternoon and had to wait in queue for the entrance ticket. The wait is quick and staffs are friendly. In the amusement park, several mountings are counted by another tickets, cost 1000 yen for 10 tickets. Unfortunately some of the exotic animals are unavailable due to age, renovation, or already passed away.

The place is well maintained. We went there during summer season so it’s really hot but we enjoyed watching animals in the zoo. Unfortunately, we have not seen the giant panda because there’s a prior online reservation. My granddaughter had so much fun that she wants to come back and see the giant panda next time.

Perfect experience!!! Little animals are out instead of in the cage. You can literally see them very close and feel the Mother Nature. They have many super cute but rare animals. I love they put cute rat and cougar at the same place. Japanese Ironic and cute!

Great place to visit with family and friends. I have appreciated the fact that, compared to Tōkyō’s places dedicated to animals, this zoo in Kōbe is not overcrowded. You can take your time to admire various kinds of animals, especially pandas and koalas. Definitely a place to visit if you’d like to see a wide range of animals!

This is a local zoo which seems pretty old. Tickets are cheap and the target market seems like a family with kids. Regardless, this is a pretty cute place for a date. Many area which supposedly filled with animals are empty, not sure why. There are a lot of sakura trees. I believe it will be magical if we visit during sakura blooming. Unfortunately i went there when the sakura is not yet blooming at all.

A great zoo, especially for the price (cheap). Lots of animals to see. Although the enclosed spaces for the animals did seem too small.

    1. Great place even for grown ups!! I enjoyed going around the zoo and looking at different animals. They have A LOT of animals that you can see. 2. If you’re planning to see the Panda, there’s a very long line for him/her so we decided to just look at the panda from afar. 🐼 3. There are vending machines all over the zoo so no need to worry about drinks esp during Summer. 4. There is a souvenir shop near the zoo entrance but I think it’s pricey. 5. There are discounts for students and senior citizens I think. The entrance for adult is around 500 円 if I remember it correctly.

Admission is cheap but too many animals were not in attendance JAN 2023 (gorillas, panda, etc.) or certain areas were closed. Huge playground for children.

A solid offering of zoo animals in what I hope are adequate enclosures. Not bad by any means, but probably better for younger kids. We had no trouble spending the entire day there. Plenty of places to stop and have a a packed lunch, which is allowed. A small amusement park was attached to the property when we were there, but that's scheduled for removal.

The zoo is very nice place to take your kids and spend the weekends. You can prepare your lunch and eat inside. Panda house is closed so unfortunately you can not see panda now.

A few of the more popular animals were not on display due to health conditions. You might want to check the availability schedule beforehand. Since it is a municipal facility, tickets are reasonably priced. Not too busy on a weekday afternoon.

A wide variety of animals and very close to the station. It has a small attractions’ area for small kids where my 8yo had a good time. The giant panda and the polar bear exhibition area was closed, but other animals were very interesting. Very much recommended if you have kids and want to spend a good time (we were there for 4 hours at least!)

Watching animals from such a close range is amazing. But, almost all animals look sad and depressed.

A zoo and a themed park in one. Kids will definitely enjoy this place. Just a tip, bring some food because some restos inside the zoo are closed due to the Pandemic.

No Panda! We knew that before our visit thankfully because we checked the website. So this review is not taking that into account. For a Buddhist country that is supposed to love and respect animals Japan is not very good at Zoos. They are often run down, look like they have not been renovated since WWII and the enclosures can best be described as animal cruelty. Public zoos are often around ¥200-¥500 Kobe was ¥650 and you can tell the difference. With that in mind we decided to visit when we had some spare time. It just so happened it was the hottest time of day so some of the animals were sleeping in the shade and a few like the tiger we didn’t see at all. Typical zoo stuff, to be expected. Yes every single enclosure was too small but that is also what you expect from a zoo especially a Japanese zoo. Some of the enclosures have really had thought put into them to mimic the natural habitat of the animal. The zoo keepers and vets were all very friendly and cared about the animals and took pride in their work. The zoo is big but not too big and the enclosures can be viewed from different heights and angles. There is a zoological center where you can learn more and play a few games. Thankfully it wasn’t too busy when we went so we could go at our own pace and really enjoy ourselves. There is also an amusement park there, we didn’t visit that area so I can’t comment on it. We had some great experiences with the hippo and the sea lions. It was a lovely 3 or so hours well spent. If we are in Kobe again and have time we will definitely visit again, it really is one of the better zoos I have visited in Japan and your entrance fee is being used well.

Its good for the kids so that they can see diffirent kinds of animals not only in the picture and there's a lot to learn about animals like the sounds, how animals react etc.

Big zoo, variety of animals and they look healthy.

Admission is free because the weather is cold in winter and many animals cannot be seen. This is a zoo for ages, but the playground inside is well maintained. Tickets selling is self serviced. Tickets are also very cheap. Our whole family spent a happy afternoon here.

Good fun. Good variety of animals with a small amusement park within. 500 yen for entry. What's not to like? Food options are limited here though.
