We swiftly traveled from Kyoto to Osaka to ring in the New Year of 2024. It turned out to be a wise decision, as many establishments in Kyoto, especially in the Gion area, were closing from December 29 to January 3. Although we anticipated a fireworks display, unfortunately, there were no free public fireworks to enjoy. Nevertheless, the place was bustling with tourists eager to celebrate the New Year. Exploring the lively food streets provided fantastic dining options. The area was incredibly inviting for a stroll, featuring numerous animated attractions. It felt like a whimsical space, filled with entertaining gimmicks. Osaka, Japan, makes for a satisfying day trip, unless you plan it carefully to avoid peak holiday times.

Good evening walk route. Although always very busy, so if large crowds are not your thing, then would suggest you avoid. Can feel a bit like a cattle market. Lots of great shops and places to eat. You can take a boat trip along the canal and see the sights and lights that way, if you prefer to view from afar.

one of the most famous tourist spot in Osaka. There are so many restaurant, bar, hotel and shopping malls in this area. It is recommended to visit in the night time. We visited in the day time. There were so many people. During night with all the lights on the places looks really amazing.

It just feel great to be able to come here. Been seeing it on YouTube and now I'm here. The feeling is so different. I'm just upset to set this place for 1 day in my itinerary and now I feel it isn't enough. Its so huge and there are so many types of shopping experience from luxury to mid range. There's so much food and again of all levels. Just 1 day isn't enough. I feel I can stay here for 1 week. As a tourist I'm so in love here. Made mine and my son's Owndays spectacle. We went ABC mart and the Adidas & Nike shop, prices are great. The Ichiran here has 2 type, if I'm not wrong one is pork base and another is chicken. I'm going to try the chicken one before leaving Osaka.

Big signs & bright lights. What's not to like? There is no place like the Dotonbori. Just a lively vibe about the whole place. Everybody there is just happy. Great fun. So many things to see and do. Endless amount of eateries and shopping options. Plenty of side streets to get lost in. Feels totally safe at night.

It's like time square if you shrunk it down to one bridge and everything closed at 10pm. 3 stars because there's good food around and good stores to shop at. Just a moshpit of people walking with no real sense of direction except towards glico man. Better to go during sunset. This isn't a night life district like you think.

Went here twice. Most shops open at 11 am except for a few which open at 10. Crowd was fine in the morning but got too much to handle later in the day. If you are in search of places to eat, I'd recommend checking out the alleys and the outskirts. Got a taste of the best wagyu I've had in my life.

Most famous tourist strip in Osaka, featuring food, shopping and nightlife buzzing with activities. Take a stroll along the bridge to view the iconic Glico man billboard, or walk along the alleyways to experience the rich culture of Osaka food on parade, or just randomly walk into any of the fashion stores to get a feel-good factor of the local fashion on offer. Anything you can think of, Osaka will make it a dream of for you!

Fabulous street in Osaka and not to be missed! Food glorious food everywhere. Lots of interesting shops selling lots of Japanese souvenirs. Night time it’s all lit up and so festive. We loved it so much we went there 3 times!

If given a choice between Tokyo or Osaka I would throw a curve ball and say spend all your time in Kyoto and then make sure you take the 20 minute train from Kyoto into Osaka at least twice during a 10-14 day trip to Kyoto. The Dotonbori area is so much fun to walk around and the food options are some of the best in all of Japan. We came back to Osaka twice and both times simply hung out in this area. A MUST VISIT IMO!

Dotonbori is just - wow. Sensory overload in a good way. The lights, the food, the energy. It’s a really special place. Busy - but the crowds are part of the vibe. Go at night, have dinner there. Amazing photo opportunities and such an impressive hustle and bustle cultural experience. Really good street food, especially ‘Takoyaki’.

Its a therapeutic vibe for the exaggeration of food displays. Omise are all "eye-candy" for me. I like wandering here, i also took a photo with Glico Man, which is surprisingly a Filipino. Ate yakiniku カルビー🥰 with a reasonable price.

Different, but good feeling at Dotonburi both day and night time. There are lots of food and restaurants even Halal food can be found here too. Some restaurant need reservation in advance. It has many good quick bite and go, but some shops have very long queue too.

Sooo much stimulating triggers will surround you as you walk through the these streets. Energetic, full of sights and sounds, exciting food options. You'll navigate a sea of people as you might expect, but this area is pretty exciting and worth seeing at least once. During our couple of days in this area we couldn't nearly explore all of the side streets and intriguing little places in between the larger ones.

It's quite crazy to be here. If you've gone to Osaka, you can't miss this place because it's like a culinary paradise, with a wide range of dishes from traditional to modern. The eateries are reasonably priced. The more nights you go out, the more fun you have and the busier you are. Tips for shopping at duty-free shops, bulk purchases, and finding discount vouchers on Klook.

Dotonbori, a relief from the more quiet and toned down Tokyo area! This place is pretty much party central. Everyone is friendly and talkative. Best thing to do here is grab some beers and enjoy the people watching, the lights and advertising all around. We also took a small boat ride back and forth up the river! What a cool experience everything was, I’d return again and again.

Market and stores really make this place cool, but 90% of clothing shops just sell American clothing. Food is hit or miss, recommend trying many different food stalls rather than settling at one. Vibe is very laid back but not the party I expected. Mostly just a bunch of people walking around, definitely gave carnival vibes. Weekends and nights are very busy. Place is deserted in the AM, good time for taking photos. Nothing in the area opens before 11am including coffee shops.

Great shopping street, loved the vibes here and immediately liked Osaka better than the other cities we were in already! Huge variety of stores here, from food to souvenirs to just plain shopping, the whole street and area is packed with both tourists and locals 👍🏻 Definitely will recommend to spend a full day here to soak in both the day experience and the night culture too!

You can't come to Osaka and not go to Dotomburi! This is the place for foodies, night life, shopping, pictures, everything! You can walk to everything since everything is in close distance. Certain hours it can get crowded like at night but overall it's nothing overwhelming. This is a must if you come to Osaka.

Well, everyone who visits Osaka definitely visits this place and it’s called Dotonbari. This place is so crowded, doesn’t matter it’s morning, afternoon or night, it’s crowded always. A lot of stores for shopping in this area, and a lot of restaurants to eat food. The night life here is good and it’s safe. Will I visit this area again? No, I won’t. There is nothing special to see here except stores for shopping.

Great place to go and visit in Osaka, in the day there are numerous shops and eateries. Then at night it turns into a neon wonderland with bars and clubs. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a fun time in Osaka. I would say it gets a bit seedy after 12-1am.

Would be much nicer without all the drunk and obnoxious people around. Food was okay I had better elsewhere in Japan, still worth a visit as all the restaurant facades are like an outdoor street museum. Osaka was the place I least enjoyed on my trip to Japan, the streets were filthy and the people were loud which was unlike anything I had seen in Japan this far.

This is the nightlife and shopping place to be in Osaka. Come at night, and you will see everyone enjoying the markets, the food, the bars, street performers, and the random fortune teller. It's safe and comfortable walking here. Be warned: it's very spread out, so don't get lost!

Fun fun fun! It is just really a strip and of course very touristy but it’s fun. Definitely should visit. They have this made up Billiken, American acquired deity to whom you tickle his feet and it’s good luck, so make sure you tickle his feet for… I don’t know it was an artist’s dream. The Hitachi tower also, which lets you admire Osaka from the skies. The town around is cool it is very chill and fun to walk around in the evenings.

Whether you're going for food or not, this is a must-see area while in Osaka. The views are better at night with the bright lights and signs. The canal area is also lit up nicely and creates an amazing photo op. The area can get very busy, and if you're planning to stop at popular restaurants and stalls - expect a wait.

Dotonbori in Osaka was one of the craziest places I have ever been to. It was completely filled with people and bustling with activity. There were endless street food and cool shops. If you are in Osaka, this is absolutely the place to visit!

The center of Osaka, very lively place with lots of food stalls. The famous ones in instagram/tiktok has long lines but it moves fast. The price is average. Just be sure not to go super late at night as some shops are closing. Better go at dinner for the neon vibes. Best place to get takoyaki and dumplings!

Super cool place with a lot of tourists traps! My pro tip is do not wait in line for anything!!!! If a shop has a line go somewhere that doesn’t have a line!!! Most things are exactly the same just a few meters away. For the love of god do not try to recreate instagram influencer experiences just enjoy the experience yourself it truly is an amazing experience!

Visit the area for yr shopping delights. The shopping street stretches across multiple metro stations. Try the famous ramen by the river, next to the pier for sight-seeing boat rides. The ramen is priced competitively (Y1000+-); may be a long queue though, so go during off-peak timings.

  • 5/5 Tushar S. 5 months ago on Google
The canal ride was a pleasant experience with cool breeze blowing and lot of food options. I could go shopping the covered area when the sun was shining too much. The various static and moving models that adorned the food joints are a major attraction. The lower walkways are accessible via ramps.

  • 4/5 Natalie C. 7 months ago on Google
There is LOTS of takoyaki here! We had delicious street food and some beer. There are a LOT of people at night, so be aware if you have luggage, small kids, etc. Many of the places only take cash, but a few take international cards. There is also a mixture of sit down places in with the take out/street food. You can also buy souvenirs along this street and even do karaoke! I only knock it down one star because of the crowd and lack of trash cans. Super fun with lights and sculptures on the buildings!

  • 5/5 Febe M. 5 months ago on Google

This was what I had always imagined/hoped Japan was like. Tokyo is beautiful & clean, but Dotonbori in Osaka just has the soul of Japanese people. I didn't mean a single stranger even with my very, very limited Japanese. The food, the music, the shopping all strongly recommend.

  • 5/5 Dennis T. 5 months ago on Google
Dontonbori is where all the street food stalls are. There are food stalls lining both sides of the street selling Japanese food and snacks. Hard to explain, easier for you to understand by seeing the attached pictures. Most of the streets are not sheltered unfortunately.

  • 5/5 Tetka E. 4 months ago on Google
The experience was one for the books. It was a little crowded since it was the weekend but not the places' fault. The long stretch of places to eat and shop was very convenient. I love the fact that we can just stroll our way from the hotel to all these places. Was not able to experience too much of the food but we pigged out too much already. We will try to be back longer next time.

If you are in Osaka you must venture to Dotonbori. Everything is a must truly. The food, the dessert, the drinks, the restaurants, the shopping, the...everything! You will need at least half a day or a day to explore Dotonbori properly. I recommend checking out all the smaller side streets and the upper building floors as there are some amazing shops and food venues that are not on the ground floor.

Without a doubt the most popular, but not the most fun per definition, area of Osaka. This place is buzzing at night with lots of food stands and shops and souvenir shops. Wow! Paradise for foodies!!! This place is amazing. It has all kinds of foods, from finger foods and some on a stick to stand in line to fancy sit-downs. From sushi and ramen to bars and teas. Truly a place for tourists to come by and visit!

You can find the best Osaka local foods here, be expecting to wait inline if you want to dine in. There are a lot of tourists but this place is the pride of Osaka, worth of your buck to visit. The famous shopping street is nearby, department store is nearby also. You need to try their sweets and bakery, the quality is off the chart for a cheaper price than Tokyo. 這裡是大板人的驕傲,美食産品高品質又便宜,此地必遊。 @legendarypath

The food was disappointing at best. I would walk across the river for the aesthetic but if you want good food take a 5 min walk out and you'll find far better food. The largest attractions I would recommend seeing are the sculptures above the storefronts.

If you love vibrant night life then this is the place to be in Osaka. The smoky smell of Japanese BBQ permeates the air, from the many street vendors selling takoyaki and grilled food. There’s so much to see, eat and shop.

It is such a huge tourist trap but I love it. Come with an appetite and try all the things! Takoyaki (octopus balls), yen coin cakes, Kobe beef, candied strawberries, and many more. The octopus balls were delicious however make sure they are not as uncooked in the middle batter. Tons of souvenir shops to stock up on. I am sure the place stays active all night.

A must go place while you're on your stay in Osaka city. The street is iconic to the citizen and it bears the famous glico sign. Flocks of tourists and locals enjoy the sight seeing and riverside strolling in this area. The famous shinsaibashi shopping street is also nearby. Gets really crowded at all time. Popular food chain and souvenirs shop are within the area. You'll most likely need to queue for your food if you had found them being recommended in YouTube or websites. The street is long, easily spend half a day in this area.

  • 5/5 Liz W. 4 months ago on Google

A fun street with the famous running man sign (I was not impressed, my husband thought it was worth it). Crabs, octopus, dragon and other large (and some animated) signs on restaurants. Limited seating at restaurants and outside. Many establishments do not take cash. When we were there it was incredibly crowded.

The famous dotonburi is as advertised. There are nice views during the day and at night. Filled with locals and foreigners at all times. It can be a little annoying when you just want to take a simple photo but you have to wait until all the social media stars are finished with their photo sessions. The street is filled with restaurants. Last time I visited there were rats running around as well.

Absolutely stunning! We visited during the day, but the night experience is the time you need to go. The stunning views of the main river, especially during sunset! From the whacky and creative shop fronts, which you have to check out, to the random boat trips going along the river. It's a must see, we found a few different small bars tucked away as well, so be sure to explore.

One of Osaka's top tourist destinations is an area brimming with numerous restaurants, bars, hotels, and shopping malls. It is highly recommended to visit this area at night when the lights illuminate the place, presenting a spectacular sight. Our visit was during the day, and the area was bustling with a large crowd of people. However, the nighttime ambience is truly captivating and shouldn't be missed. Many things to do at night time as well especially round one!

Nice attractions to visit. There's this big screen of the running man where it's so popular on social media. I would definitely recommend you to take a pic with it. There are so many restaurants nearby there's the squid bowl restaurant which is very delicious. Expect it to be extremely busy which adds to the experience. There are so many clothing shops in there if you are into that :). Washrooms are not available everywhere so account for that. If you are going with kids make sure to get a good hold of them otherwise it will be a tragic to lose them there.

Bustling shopping, dining and entertainment center in Osaka. At night, many shops light up more beautiful and cheerful than during the day. But due to the impact of the epidemic, many stores closed early, which is a bit of a pity.

What a fun place! We went later in the afternoon and stayed until just before the trains shut down. Food was great, definitely go for the “all you can eat” meals before exploring so you can walk off those calories😝 Many other tourists were kind enough to move out of photos. Shopping was fun and did not feel unsafe anywhere. Do be mindful that the more popular shops will sell out, so get there before it’s too late. Around 9PM is when things flip from family friendly to more 18 and up with many all you can drink/adult karaoke a places inviting guests in. Be mindful when bringing children out this late. Don Quioxte was PACKED as they are open later than most, so please get what you need and exit before causing a traffic jam inside the store.

A sensory experience you have to visit. Much more than just a single street, these multiple city blocks contain so much it’s impossible to list all the experiences that await. What can’t you find is the correct question. A day doesn’t give it justice. Family friendly with an active night life that leans adult. Safe, clean and entertaining.

Very touristy but still fun. The Ferris wheel is quite cheap 600 yen for about 10 minute circle. You have to try the obligatory octopus balls and hopefully find a bar to suit your needs. Hundreds of places to eat and drink just take a wander down the many side streets and try and pick one. Everything to eat from standard sushi to whale meat and chicken intestines. Take your pick!

It's not my first time here. It's a beautiful, full of energy. There are lots to choose from between food, entertainment and shopping. It's very busy like Times Square in NYC with the big lights. The river/canal is a wonderful touch to this area.

If this is the first time you visit Osaka, go there! If you have time, stay longer and observe the tourist then guest where they came from. This is so fun. If you go to Osaka, you can't miss this place. This is arguably the most popular and busy place in Japan.

Lots of food choices and shops. Can be so crowded during the day. We enjoyed eating and exploring the stores. The lines can be long but it moves quickly.

A bustling vibrant location in downtown Osaka. Prepare to have your eyes and ears and taste buds swamped with a spectacular display. Well worth a visit, however, it does feel very commercial and geared towards tourists so explore the wider Osaka area too.

I visited Dotonbori and it was amazing. The bright lights and big signs were so cool. There were tons of delicious street food and great places to shop. The atmosphere was lively and energetic, definitely a must-visit if you're in Osaka.

A must visit place in Osaka, always crowded at night and with a lot of street performers at night especially during Friday and weekend. A place where you can find a lot of nice street food and restaurants too. It is also famous with the glico man signboard

Too crowded to my liking but nice neon lights and lots of food places. Has a lot of tourist souvenir shops as well. Take care not to get lost when going through the crowd. Make sure you can still see the group you’re out with. Best to stop once awhile instead of keep going ahead. Food can be pricey

A famous tourist spot where you can take a walk along the canal in Osaka downtown. It looks nicer when sunrise, sunset, or in evening. Many shops and restaurants around this area. It’s always crowded near the Glico running guy board.

Osaka's vibrant entertainment area with an abundance of restaurants bars, shops and neon signs including the famous Glico Man sign. During the day we found the streets packed but manageable. At night the place is even more impressive and a must area to visit when in Osaka.

What a lovely fun filled few streets around the river. Shops, cafes, restaurants, businesses and people everywhere. Mainly younger adults but wow what a great place to be! Shops shut around 930pm, but you can find food and drinks everywhere!

A must see when you are in Osaka. An extremely busy area filled with locals and tourists seeing the amazing sights of the glowing signs advertising various foods and goods. Though it is crowded, you can still move around. Staff will usually actively stand outside and encourage you to enter their business to try their foods. There are multiple stands with this such as takoyaki, so it is important to browse ahead before filling yourself up at one specific store if you're new.

Atmosphere was great. I recommend coming here during the night rather than the day. When I came the place is very crowded so I don’t really recommend coming with little kids especially during the holiday season. Definitely a must see when visiting Osaka. They also have a lot of great food nearby.

It is crowded during the evening. The Glico Man was huge. Very touristy. Loads of people taking photos. Lots of cafes, eateries, claw machine shops and value bargain shops. Go once is enough for me. There were more tourists than Japanese here. Sunday night is extremely crowded. Be careful of belongings as it is very crowded and we got bumped into very often. Street shows and side shows aplenty here. There is no public toilets here unless you eat at a eatery and use their toilet. It is not the most glamourous here, for people and place alike. The crowd can be rowdy. Our toilet door was kicked and someone shouted really loud outside our door to scare us. Maybe a drunk. If you have kids, elderly or teenagers, best to stay together while exploring the area.

Massive complex of arcades with more people than seems possible. Where as Tokyo has smaller, more distributed hotspots, it feels like all of Osaka comes together here in a big, electrifying dream. Highly stimulating visuals, great for photos and as an experience. Infinite amount of shops and restaurants.

A very crowded, popular tourist attraction and a must-go location if you're in Osaka. It offers many sorts of entertainment, food, drinks and clothing. There are many streets of shops connecting with one another, and I recommend visiting them at your own pace. Food is delicious but the queues can be quite long, so unless you really want to try something, don't queue too long and instead just walk around Dotonbori for other stuff. There's plenty of things to choose from and the price is just right.

The heart of modern Osaka. Lively and entertaining place with hoards of people. It's crowded but not disturbing. Lots of dining places and smaller eating options. Number cruises to chose from but they all require prior booking and the queues get long.

The place is probably more for tourists and less traditional. Classic shopping street with many restaurants and street food! If you're in Osaka and don't mind crowds, definitely worth a visit - especially at night with all the neon signs. A bit quieter during the day - but still quite crowded. But normal for a typical tourist spot.
