American family visiting with limited Japanese. An aging tower for sure but still a fun visit to mark off observation towers in Japan. Getting here was really easy. The shopping arcade around it shows it's age but overall the tower itself is a good little visit. Cost us ¥4200 for a family of four (this includes the outdoor observatory). There are two levels of the observation deck. The indoor gold and lower levels are one price. An additional fee is charged for the outdoor observation deck a level up. The open air observatory also has the 'tip' which is a short walk out overhang with a glass bottom for you to look out over. Gorgeous views all around. Staff was friendly and had no issues getting tickets or understanding instructions. There is also a nice little museum with dioramas and such as you exit. There was also English explanations on signage which is always nice.

This tower and observation desk was moderately busy on a Monday, though the entry closed a couple of hours before the official time. The location of the entrance point is easy to spot on a less crowded day and the ticket price is a bit on the higher side. The elevators were a bit slow comparatively, but the ambiance was wonderful and so were the views.

What a beautiful view!! I had a fairly long wait to enter to the level 4 platform, but I would say the view there is just normal. Please buy the 300¥ ticket to the special observation deck on level 5, that’s where the beautiful view is at!! There is a small extended platform with a glass bottom where you can take some photos… and the view is spectacular! It’s super chilly when we’re up there so be prepared to wear some layers if you’re going in autumn/winter!

I entered using the free pass but it still made me feel like a waste of time. The queue was long and you had to go through multiple queues in order to reach the lift. The place was so bright that you could hardly see a decent night view, nor take a nice photo of that. I thought going down the 2nd floor would be better─but then it was full of loud music, disco balls and big promotional posters covering the windows. This is the worst night view I have had and I would hate myself if i had to pay for this.

We love the city towers in Japan and this is as good as any. Besides the slide (which we didn't try) it has good views across Osaka, a small but interesting museum devoted to the history of the site and the Glico company, and the usual vertigo-inducing viewing platform. Close by is the zoo, and the surrounding streets are straight out of the early Showa era.

Realise not very pack and shock to see alot shops aren't open when we arrive at 4pm. We head to the tower, there was Q not very pack but need to wait for the purchase of tickets. We used our Osaka Amazing Pass then pay extra 200yen each to go to the special area level 5. Interesting place to come, the view was nice. Good to come around sunset timing at 5pm+. Tourism probably haven't resume at this area but I believe it soon will be.

Enjoyed the experience. Get a great view of Osaka ans there is even a massive slide for the brave at heart. At top viewing floor which is termed as 5F...conventional vview and go down a floor a Doreamon themed view ....CUTE. it is free entry for those with the OSAKA AMAZING PASS!

Tower that stands tall at the shin sekai area. Magnificent view from the down street. Didn't manage to go up due to the rush in schedule and the waiting time to go up is about 1.5Hour at 1130am. If you're an osaka amazing pass holder, suggest to come here for your first stop as the queue and waiting time gets very long after morning time.

(Translated by Google) On the site of the 5th National Industrial Exhibition in 1903, the first Tsutenkaku Tower was built in 1912, as if the Arc de Triomphe of Paris and the Eiffel Tower were united. (Konosuke Matsushita, a 17-year-old employee of Osaka Electric Light, also participated in the construction.) At the time it was completed, it was said to be the tallest in the Orient and was popular as a "landmark of the new world", but in 1943, the strength became insufficient due to the fire in the movie theater Ohashiza just below the tower. It has been dismantled as a military iron material. The current second-generation Tsutenkaku was completed in 1956 with the start of high economic growth after the war and the momentum for the revival of Tsutenkaku, and is 103 meters high. The designer was Tanaka Naito, who also worked on Tokyo Tower and Nagoya TV Tower. By the way, Tsutenkaku means "a tall building leading to the heavens", and the name should be a Confucian scholar who was active from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji era, and the Takamatsu domain, which was on the side of the former Tokugawa shogunate during the Boshin War, should be attached to the royal sect. It is Fujisawa Nangaku, who is also known for persuading him. (Fujisawa Nangaku named it after Seika Elementary School in Osaka City) (Original)

Nice vibrant Shinsekai street surrounding the tower but most restaurants are smoking establishments. Observatory is rather old too (albeit great service), wouldn’t recommend it without the Osaka amazing pass.

Definitely add this to your places to visit in Osaka, the tower has a rich history and beautiful views, overlooking the Zoo, railway lines and buildings of Osaka. When here, try and do the slide tunnel. It will definitely give you an adrenaline rush but you'd enjoy the thrill and experience. After your sight seeing, be sure to get souvenirs from the shops on the observation decks or at the basement.

It is great. But, currently, it may not be the best time to go because the top part is under construction. There will be a long line. So you should make sure you have enough time to enjoy. Most shops are closed. But there is one 串カツ shop beside it. That makes worth visiting. And Ticket price has become 900yen now.

An interesting place to visit. From the tower, you can see the scenery for the Southern part of Osaka. In the streets down below, there are a lot of restaurants selling the the Japanese typical foods, especially the deep fried sea foods.

(Translated by Google) You can feel that you are in Osaka. The height of the observatory is not a remarkable level in this modern age, but you will surely be satisfied with the scenery such as Abeno Harukas and Osaka Castle that you can see 🤗 There are udon noodles, kushikatsu restaurants, and sushi restaurants in the area, so you can enjoy it at a great value 🎵 There is Don Quijote in the south, which can be noted nationwide, so I think it's fun to take a walk ⤴️.

(Translated by Google) Now, Kinki residents can enter for about half the price! Not to mention the observatory where you can see far away, the outdoor observatory, which you can go up for an additional 500 yen, was even more pleasant! In the outdoor observatory, there is something like an observatory that protrudes about 2 meters outside the observation room, and part of it has a glass floor (it may be acrylic, but it is transparent). , You can enjoy more thrills. I was scared and could barely look into it ... (^_^;) There is a garden-style break space on the way down, and various ideas have been devised. [End by looking at the outside view from the observatory! ] I didn't want to see it, I enjoyed it.

First time visiting a tourist attraction in Japan and I got to say it's an interesting experience! The line was not that long even when it was a weekend when I visited Tsuntenkaku. Quite an attraction to have a dimmed out elevator that showed a history of the tower, its height, and the area history!

This was an old tower in the city. The area around was not so busy. There was a subway connection and carparks nearby. There were some shops not operating. However, the queue to the observation deck and the slide was still long, though the charge was not so cheap. The night scene was more attractive.

I went there at 6P.M there were not a lot of people so not a long wait to go up there. I was able to take a few pictures with my camera and really enjoy the view. I took an octopus at the goodies shop, it was not cheap but not that expensive either and I really like it. I highly recommend you to go here. It's a must go in Osaka.

Great spot to drop by. I didn’t go on the top but ended up spending hours walking around the tower filled with hundreds of shops and restaurants. Good vibe and really fun if you’re a foodie. A lot of things to try. Nice view for both day and night which gives you different feelings. Night time seems to be more vibrant in my opinion.

This place was so fun! We didn’t know what to expect but it didn’t disappoint. We got in line about 15 mins before opening and were first in line for the observation deck. We also bought tickets in advance through a third party and when we got there, only had to pay the difference to access the outdoor space. We went straight up in the elevator and kept going to the outdoor deck. Since we got there early, we were the only ones there. After that, we went to the different areas inside, stamped the Billikens, and played games (mortal combat and ring toss). We took the stairs all the way down and had a lot of laughs throughout. It had nice views of the city and overall a fun, quirky experience!

Super quaint tower with wonderful birds eye view of Osaka! So many things to see and buy here and provided great insight into the history of old Osaka. I'd been to Shinsekai many times but this was my first time going up and it was such a novelty experience. Would really recommend a first timer to do this!

(Translated by Google) Tsutenkaku is an observation tower located in Shinsekai Shopping Street, Naniwa District, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan. It is a registered tangible cultural property of Japan. The specific location is 1-18-6, Emisu East, Naniwa District, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture. The name Tsutenkaku means "a tall building that directly leads to the sky." It is named after the Confucian scholar Fujisawa Nantake. Tsutenkaku was designed by architect Naito Tatsunaka, who was also the designer of Tokyo Tower. The current Tsutenkaku was completed in 1956 (Showa 31) and is the second generation Tsutenkaku. The tower is 100 meters high and 103 meters with a lightning rod. Built from 350 tons of iron, it is a symbol of the "New World", a large entertainment facility. Utilizing the vast land left by the domestic trade fair is also a project sponsored by the political and financial circles of Osaka. The scale of the iron tower is unprecedented. [1] There is an advertisement for Hitachi, a major electric motor manufacturer, on the tower. .. The first generation Tsutenkaku The first generation of Tsutenkaku was built in 1912, and its appearance was modeled after the construction of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The designer is Shiraku Sadao. The construction cost is about 97,000 yen. On February 13, 1943, although the first-generation Tsutenkaku owned by Yoshimoto Kogyo had been destroyed by fire, reconstruction was stopped, and it was demolished by the Osaka Prefectural Government under the name of "Contribution", and the raw materials obtained were put into military production. The iconic landmark of Shinsekai and Nishinari ward. It lights up at night and changes color regularly. If staying in a cheap hotel, there’s a good chance it’s within easy walking distance. Shinsekai is the most colorful, chaotic, and personality filled section of Osaka, so there no reason not to take a look. It’s not a record breaking height by any means, but it’s a distinctive size and shape.

Well, honestly it wasn't a bad place to have a look, but most of the shops were not open, there weren't many people there too, so It was kinda weird. Maybe those shops didn't make it because of covid and tourists can't come here. You can go up to the tower by purchasing 900, and 300 tickets.

I've seen it plenty of times already but I just can't help it, I always feel charmed and entranced by that beauty! Whether it be day or night, it's always a gorgeous sight. The fact that Shinsekai is also a very atypical area makes it all the more attractive. If you're in the area, definitely go and take a peek.

It is a popular tourist spot from Osaka it also has its own commercial zone mostly traditional Japanese clothes and souvenirs you can also take a view from inside the old building but is not for free you also can visit the zoo which is not that far from this place. An iconic tower in an interesting area. There is many shops and restaurants in the streets around the tower. You can also go to the top of the tower and get an amazing view of Osaka City. Overall an enjoyable location with many photos opportunities.

Tower in Osaka near a bunch of food and shops. Amazing views of all of Osaka, able to see water from it. Very cool experience only about $10 usd to go inside and go to the top platform of the tower. Line and wait does not take that long. Highly recommend if you are into views and want an full view of Osaka. Good to see during sunset! Souvenir store also in the tower with lots of cool stuff.

Place was very entertaining. Due to restrictions on tourists the place seems less crowded. Some shops were closed. But still it offers a varied choice of restaurants with colorful outer decorations.

Cool place with lots of things to look at and places to stop at! Great experience honestly, and I recommend if you're in the area to head up to the tower and take some pictures. The view is amazing.

A little difficult to find from the train station, but once there, it's such a unique and fascinating tower, and the view from the top was well worth a visit. The skywalk is a must do for thrill seekers and those who want to conquer their fear of heights

  • 5/5 kris9924 1 year ago on Google
Great view from the top and lots of shops to visit around the area. Take note: the tower lights are off at night so don’t even think of visiting the area at night to look at the tower.

Tsutenkaku is an iconic landmark in Osaka and definitely worth a visit! The observation deck offers a stunning view of the city. The retro vibe of the tower and surrounding area is a must go! If you're in Osaka, do make sure you add Tsutenkaku to your must-visit attractions 😊

  • 4/5 Staecha G. 1 year ago on Google
Absolutely stunning view of the city. Went there during my winter vacation and the lines were long. I suggest going during off peak season to avoid the crowd. If that's unavoidable and you wanted to go when the sun is setting (highly recommend that you do) go 45-60 minutes ahead so you don't miss it.

  • 5/5 Rukiye A. 11 months ago on Google
I went there during golden week so I waited around 20 min to enter but it was worth of it. You can see all Osaka from the top of the tower. The view is great. Do not forget to take photos at observation point on 4th floor!

  • 4/5 Luyu P. 10 months ago on Google
The observation deck was okay, you can see beautiful views all around. The whole tower was heavily commercialised, and full of merchadises. I really enjoyed the slider ride which was to my surprise. It wasn't scaring but got a bit more thrilling when you turning the corners.

  • 4/5 Perpetual H. 10 months ago on Google
Okay for a visit, you get a nice view of Osaka at the top. You can only see buildings so it’s a bit boring but the inside of the tower is also filled with stores and other related merch. A quick 20-30 minutes visit I would say

Visited Tsutenkaku to take in the sights from its surroundings area. Saw two stalls of particular interest. One which reminds of my young childhood days of Singapore Great World City(now no more) with its air gun and another restaurant that allows diners to catch their own fish for dinner.

  • 4/5 MengYee 10 months ago on Google
At the very top, you get to see the view of Osaka in all directions. Nearer the bottom, you must try the tower slide. There might be a queue because it's really thrilling.. they also let you keep a video of the process of you entering the slide.

  • 4/5 Thomas N. 10 months ago on Google
Really cool to see and visit such an iconic landmark in Osaka. Feels a bit like a tourist trap when you first enter, but the view at the top is amazing, with great photo opportunities. I was very pleased with the historical museum after exiting the upper levels that gave more perspective on the significance of the tower.

Oneof the main attractions in Shinsekai, Osaka with over 100 years of history. Used to be the tallest tower in Japan for many decades. Have to try the Tsutenkaku Tower Slide and also the observatory. If you have an Osaka Amazing Pass, the entrance to these both would be free. The view from the observatory is amazing, even if the tower itself is not very high. However, to access the top deck, a separate access fee is required. The exihibits there tell the rich history of the tower and Shinsekai. The tower slide is amazing as well.. I recommend going for the slide first, then for the observation deck, as the queue for the slide might get long depending on your time of visit. There is also a souvenir shop in the tower so you can get lots of memorabilia and souvenirs home.

  • 5/5 Brandon Lawrence L. Y. 8 months ago on Google
I remember coming here last year the experience and the view was absolutely amazing! Especially, the slide was amazing! Only took less than 10 minutes to slide down. I decided to take the elevator to the outdoor observation deck. Worth the money especially the view.

There's long q to go up, so better to be there earlier. It's not that impressive after we visited Umeda Sky Tower. This is much shorter and smaller. We got it free with Osaka Amazing Pass.

  • 4/5 Harry C. 8 months ago on Google
Tried the new slide and the experience is good and some people even screaming during the ride, separate queue with going up to tower. You can get back the video using the provided Wi-fi. 2nd time for going up to the tower and the view for that day is good as the weather is great!

  • 5/5 Supaporn C. 8 months ago on Google
If you come here at night time, you will see the light of tower and food store. You can buy the tickets for go to inside the Tsutenkaku. The restaurant mostly fried food. You can come here by train but if you stay around namba station, you can walk to this place. The road is convience to walk.

Lots of sites and attractions. Make sure to download the app so you can take photos. They have a camera where you can control using your smartphone when you stand at the edge.

I used the Osaka Amazing Pass to get into the tower for cheap, and it was a very nice view. The staff crowd the elevator going up, and it feels like you're getting real personal with everyone in the elevator going up- so pretty uncomfortable. It was a small place at the top but nice view! There's a few flights of stairs you'll have to go down to reach the elevator to go back down. The restraunts around the area were pricy, small portions, and not many waiters spoke English so Google translate was a must for me here since my Japanese wasn't the best.

  • 3/5 Dong O. 8 months ago on Google
To be honest, I could not find any fun and interest at this place. I had free ticket so I went up the observatory. But it was just wast of time for me. I rather recommend to see it from ground, it has better view and atmosphere of Shinsekai. Also there is no seating place, so you might not able to rest upstairs.

  • 5/5 Florian Z. 5 months ago on Google
I liked this tower. Not as high as other and a bit old but that’s why it stands out compared to the modern towers in Tokyo or umeda sky. The highlight is the platform outside on the upper floor. Nice form pictures, a little bit threatening but worth it! Also not very crowed here.

If you are visiting on a weekend; it's a good idea to join the queue at about 9:50am (it opens at 10am). The queue gets very long very fast! There's cafes to get breakfast nearby~ One of my favourite tourist attractions in Japan are tower observation decks! This one is very unique and interesting because it has a very long history and there's lots of information about early Japan. Inside, some of the advertising may seem a little cheesy, but that's because this building isn't owned by the city or a large company! It was built mainly with public funding and sponsorship by lots of food companies, Nissin, Glico brand (Pocky), Umaibo etc. So you can buy their merchandise here as well as learning about those companies/snackfoods! Think about what it would look like if Oreo (or a similar thing) sponsored a building, that's what this place is!

  • 4/5 Ryan C. 5 months ago on Google
This place is a nice tourist trap. The price to go to the observation deck is not too expensive. If the weather is good you can see some beautiful skyline in Osaka. They have a slide, which costs extra, you can use in the tower.

  • 3/5 MT 5 months ago on Google
Great view, of downtown Osaka. Need to go down to B1 for tickets. Osaka Amazing Pass holder cna get in for free, but need to exchange to a physical ticket. It may be packed if you are going during sunset. To get to further up observation deck (above level 5) need to buy surcharge at vending machine at level 5. For slider, need to sign the consent (it is next to entrance to basement, there is a person in charge directing guests). It is a separate queue but to up, share the elevator with those going up to observatory deck.

Visiting Tsutenkaku, an iconic landmark in Osaka’s lively Shinsekai district, was a memorable experience. This area perfectly blends the nostalgic charm of Japan’s classic entertainment era with a vibrant, modern atmosphere. Surrounded by diverse restaurants and bustling streets, my journey around Tsutenkaku offered a delightful taste of Osaka’s rich culinary traditions and dynamic cultural spirit, making it a standout highlight of my trip.

Great area with games and many restaurants around. Tiny stalls to eat. A few larger places to accommodate larger groups. Rifle shooting games, archer around. The tower is beautiful lit up in the evening time.

  • 5/5 Peter C. 3 months ago on Google • 20 reviews New
Didn't go up the tower (though I noticed it's about 20-30 mins wait), but the surrounding area is beautiful and charming. Compared to the Dotonbori area, this is much slower paced with way less of crowds. Its character really shows at night once the tower lights up and the restaurant lights illuminate the streets. This area is very friendly for families with younger children as theres a number of games like archery, cork guns, retro arcades, a zoo nearby, and more. It'd also say its a fun place for a date. Surprised this area isn't talked about more, highly recommend to any traveler.
