Truly a special place and a wonderful learning experience about the Seminole peoples. There is an initial orientation in a small theater followed by tableaus and information plus a small area where you can listen to some of the Seminole Legends. After you finish the interior museum which includes a library you then may take a walk around a mile long raised wooden trail and see the real fishing camp of one of the Seminoles, a village and more with places to rest and bathrooms along the way. Highly recommended 😊

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum, which translates to "A place to learn, a place to remember." It encapsulates the museum's mission of education and remembrance, serving as a space where visitors can deepen their knowledge and appreciation of the Seminole Tribe's heritage. Located on the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation in Florida, this museum is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Upon entering the museum, I was immediately struck by the beautifully designed architecture, which seamlessly blended with the natural surroundings. The exhibits inside were thoughtfully curated, offering a comprehensive glimpse into the history, traditions, and contemporary life of the Seminole Tribe. One of the highlights of my visit was the outdoor boardwalk trail, which winds through the cypress dome and allows visitors to explore the natural environment. The staff at the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum were friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing their culture and history. They were readily available to answer questions and provide further context, enhancing the overall experience. The Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum is a gem that beautifully showcases the vibrant history and culture of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Whether you have a deep interest in indigenous cultures or simply want to learn something new, this museum offers an enriching experience that is both educational and inspiring. 💫 ✨️ 🛍 🎁 Furthermore, I was delighted to discover that the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum boasts an impressive gift shop, offering a wide array of distinctive gifts and travel mementos. From exquisite jewelry pieces to adorable animal figurines and intricately crafted dream catchers, the gift shop truly captivated my attention. It serves as an excellent opportunity to not only find a special keepsake but also contribute to supporting this local business and the invaluable work of the museum.

I went with the family and it is an interesting museum that teaches you and gives you a lot of information about the Seminole Indian tribe. My children loved it and really liked the part of walking and exploring nature on the way we saw snakes, birds and different kinds of insects. It also has more things to see. Oh and of course they have alligators at the entrance. Inside the museum they also have a small shop to buy souvenirs.

I am very glad that we went to this museum. It is very well done. The Seminole Tribe in Florida has put a lot of effort to make this museum available to the public. It covers the history and lifestyle of the Seminoles.

Beautiful museum, I love seeing the cultural history of such strong people. The nature walk outside is so peaceful, the greenery is just so refreshing to look at. You can truly feel the magic in that walk. They also have a cute gift show area where you can buy artwork and very cute authentic things. You are not allowed to record or take pictures inside, please respect their wishes. There are multiple signs posted up stating this as well.

The museum is open and keeping normal posted hours. Masks are recommended though staff aren’t wearing them. Great exhibits describing the history of the Seminoles and their traditional lifestyle. Highly recommended. $10 for adults $7:50 for seniors/students/military. Gift shop offers excellent gifts too.

Great little museum on the Seminole tribe and their history. Although very small, they did have a really cool boardwalk in the back that leads through the beautiful peaceful trees of the everglades. We were also lucky enough to experience a live festival on site where they displayed their art and dancing. Staff were very polite and friendly.

Very informative museum with lots of art made by its local on display. From education regarding it's traditional dances to videos describing mythological tales, it was definitely worth the visit. It also rained really bad so I didn't get to go down the boardwalk this visit.

4 of us drove 90 minutes to enjoy this museum. It was well worth the drive. Walking the boardwalk was great, we really liked the wood carver we met at the small village. Film is dated but worthwhile. Very nice gift shop with reasonable prices.

Exhibits, a theater, giftshop, and a boardwalk. Learn the history of Florida and the people who lived here then and now, see how native flora and fauna were used... thank you Anita and David...

The most beautiful museum I have ever visited. Second visit and really wish we could have also gone back on the trail but it was lightening. Was able to notice some beautiful bronze statues that had been added. Next time....

Beautiful displays, gifts, hope, and boardwalk. I came with a friend who used a wheelchair and we were driven to the entrance and picked up and driven to the car when we left.

Wonderful and friendly staff here. Very interesting artifacts and history. We love the boardwalk here and we purchased a family pass so we could come over and visit here anytime as we're camped at the Big Cypress RV Park for the winter. The gift shop has lots of interesting items for sale.

It was like the old woman at the register purposely didn’t want to provide quality service — or generate revenue for your tribe. I recommend having a more sales minded individual interested in generating profits and providing awesome interactions with customers run the counter and stick that old hag in the tribes senior citizen home where everyone’s probably ornery and dehydrated looking anyways. Alas, I get it — I don’t like my people either.

No "WOW". It was a pleasant visit. When combined with Billy's Swamp Safari just down the street makes for a good road trip. Very clean, very modern facility. Very well taken care of. Best part of the visit is learning that the Seminole's are true survivors able to adapt to their environment.

We absolutely loved our experience at the museum. It gave us so much insight in the Seminoles history and culture. Not to mention our tour guide Cypress was incredible. We'll be back for sure.

Nice museum about the origins of the native Americans living in the associated reserve. Closing times are early in the afternoon unfortunately, especially if you made a detour specifically to visit it. Features and interesting multimedia presentation and mannequin displays of live in the reserve.

So informative.. amazing exhibits and life size models of Seminole people. Highly recommend to those interested in real Florida history! Amazing informative boardwalk and employees are very nice. Driving around the area we saw many hawks, alligators, caracara, osprey, and a family of wild turkeys.

A great introduction to Seminole history and culture. A little lacking in context beyond the Creek entry into Florida, but well worth the trip. Staff was very kind.

Glad we made the drive out. Interesting museum though when we went (late Feb) there was little wildlife to see/hear on the boardwalk walk which was disappointing as was the fact that only a couple people were demonstrating crafts (and not interested in engaging in conversation). Not sure why the shop is selling cheap stuff rather than actual baskets etc made locally.

I visited maybe 2 years ago. It had been many years since I came to the Reservation. My 2 sons are 11 years apart and I took them separately through the years. I have lived in S Florida for 47 years now. So the first time I went to the area was 1991. Going to this museum alone and being shown the door to the theater first for the introduction, well I had tears in my eyes What an amazing achievement! I left my glasses in the car, so unfortunately I couldn’t read much of the plaques! The lightening had stopped so I was the first out to the boardwalk trail, which I loved! Though it was hot, I was grateful to visit. I will come again soon so I can read! I was also very impressed by the Legal Library and the work being done! Got to have a cheeseburger at the store , but it was the local lunch rush so I was forgotten. But I got to see some of the locals, which I enjoyed. To end my trip I got to see the Chief in his escorted pickup with lights on top parade down the main road of what he has built up. A Very Happy Visit

Excellent museum in all the ways already mentioned. I loved the first hand written accounts from tribal elders, credited to them by name. Also thought the little interactive board where you pack a native travel pack, by order of necessity and space was neat. Items were numbered by order of necessity.

  • 4/5 Don B. 6 years ago on Google
Excellent museum with displays inside and a walk around the exterior where from time to time there are activities and demonstrations of tribal life at a mock village. Too bad there is lots of construction and road noise to ruin the ambiance of the one-mile boardwalk through a cypress swamp. The lighting is very dim in the museum so if you need reading glasses bring them to read the display signs that have pretty small print. Plenty of free parking. Located in a remote area of Hendry county but worth the drive.

  • 5/5 Marci G. 4 years ago on Google
Loved the walk. We were there at holiday time not everything up and running all day. They have a village and walk about a mile around. Great boardwalk and walk. Wished the village demonstration was in full gear though. The museum and film very interesting worth the money. Had lot to look at and read about. Small gift shop would have loved to see more local seminole crafts for sale. Read package before you purchase. Not everything locally made. Overall 5 star rating. We spent about 4 hours doing everything the tues before Christmas was very quiet though

Well worth a drive. I saw their ads in Ft Lauderdale but they're actually a few hours from the city. I really enjoyed how interactive the museum is. Was also cool to see the living village, refreshing after mostly spotting ghost towns while traveling. The area itself is just very clean, from the convenience store to the gas stations. Highly recommend, especially for those who are visual learners.
