Fort Denaud Swing Bridge

Tourist attraction Historical landmark Bridge

👍👍 This was pretty awesome. This is currently our view from our Harvest Host camp location. I have never seen a bridge that swings from. Side to side like this. The yachts that went thru there were huge. This is a beautiful area that we have never been to in Florida and I would highly recommend it when... Even as a local I know it will be a bit of a traffic back up if the bridge needs to open but it's worth it every time. To be able to see a historical site as this one in my town is always a pleasure and honour!

The yachts that went thru there were huge. This is a beautiful area that we have never been to in Florida and I would highly recommend it when there is no hurricane disaster to be cleaned up. There is a lot of tree and limb damage from the high winds that spun of of hurricane Ian and the locals are just taking it with a grain of salt! There are some pretty awesome people here and they are great full for the help to get the mess cleaned up and the power back on so they can get back to their routines.

What's nice is to see are the boats passing and the bridge being swung open.

3/23. Ft Denaud swing bridge. Weight restrictions apply and operator on duty during daylight. Cool construction and a sight worth seeing in operation. Speed is slow when crossing, speed bumps and grating that looks down to river.

The Fort Denaud Bridge is a 435 foot historical swing bridge built in 1963. The bridge was previously used in Pompano Beach and brought here to replace another bridge that was condemned and removed in the early 1960's. The bridge is 434.7 feet long from end to end and has a vertical clearance of 8.9 feet over the river. The bridge allows cars to cross over the Caloosahatchee River. The bridge was rehabilitated in 1987. The Fort Denaud Bridge is named for Pierre Denaud a French Canadian trapper who traded with the Seminoles and owned land here in the 1830's. The bridge is located at Fort Denaud, the site of a military encampment in the early 19th century. When a boat wants to pass under the bridge, the captain calls the bridge tender who walks out to the middle of the bridge and cranks the machinery to turn allowing it to swing open to allow the boat traffic to pass down the river. It is one of only three swing bridges in SW Florida. I was surprised to learn that this bridge was from Pompano Beach, the town next to where I live. It must have been quite an ordeal to bring it over here. I have previously visited the Snow-Reed Swing Bridge, another historic swing bridge in Ft. Lauderdale. I love these bridges and their history and it is always fun to watch when they swing open. Unfortunately there weren't any boats coming down the river today. It is still a pretty bridge and enjoyed my walk over it.

Kind of neat watching it's open and close if you sitting on the bank. But if you're in a hurry to get across to takes a while.

It's an awesome bridge, because it's an ole swing bridge. But it takes a long time for someone to walk halfway down to the middle of it, swing it open, wait for the boats, then swing it back closed, and then walk back. Also, its under repairs a lot. But it's old so it's going to need repairs. But on the other hand, it is Beautiful!! Driving over it and looking to both sides it is just so Beautiful. Especially when the sun is rising and setting its "picture perfect" It is definitely a sight to see!!!!!

I drove today the first time over the Fort Denaud Swing Bridge, on the way back I could not resist to let my drone fly at the Bridge Guards house. It was very interesting when Marty opened and closed the bridge!
