The Makiling Botanic Gardens offers a sampling of the flora present within the volcanic mountain which is Mount Makiling. One would have to conduct a hike from the main campus grounds to reach this area which is already included in the forestry area of the college. Lush tropical forest is present and is also filled with fauna such as reptiles and insects.

Good for unwinding! Nature at its rawest. Speed time with loved ones and a nature-venture deep in the forest of Makiling. Although needs to keep preserve areas and trees. All I hear here are the unending sound of birds all around. Like sleeping in trance.

Parks and gardens like this should be well maintained. The place is so beautiful. Would have gone around longer if we arrived earlier. The walk we had was relaxing. Come early morning. The garden closes at 4pm.

Amazing place to visit, just be sure to be ready for a minor hike, slippery stairs, and very humid feeling. P50 entrance fee for your reference.

Open daily (dunno during holidays), from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. with an entrance fee of 40 php while 30 php for senior citizens and for students. The place is located inside University of the Philippines Los Baños (Forestry area). Jeepneys are available to take you there, though not as often compared to the ones in Freedom Park. Makiling Botanic Gardens is a peaceful site among the individuals who are craving for nature scenery as an escape from the busy, crowded, and traffic city life. Pets are not allowed inside though. Tables are provided to enjoy eating with friends or family and there are enough trash cans around, so please do not leave your undesirable trace behind.

One of the best solo trips i had! This place is amazing, but creepy if you're alone. Forest on your own.

Birds ASMR. This is a family-friendly place where you can feel the nature experience while having convenient access to visitor facilities. Parking lot is near the entry road. Entrance fee is paid at the gate. The only room for improvement is that some parts of MBG need some renovation/redecoration.

An excellent spot to see uncommon native plants and some birdlife near Metro Manila (1.5 hours away). Some Philippine flora to watch out for at this heritage garden on the foot of Mount Makiling are kapa-kapa (Medinilla magnifica), Medinilla miniata, and bagawak-morado (Clerodendrum quadricolare) — all located close to the entrance. The large species of Alocia portei are also most impressive. Signages and plant labels, however, should be improved and updated though. We were lucky to spot a breeding pair of Luzon hornbills at the dipterocarp arboretum. Entrance fee is ₱60 per head. 😍

I came here for the Philippine Raptors but was disappointed that they have been transferred. It was a dismal and poorly maintained park with derelict areas but still had a beautiful collection of beautiful endemic trees, palms, shrubs, herbs, vines, ferns. There used to be lots of indigenous flowering plants, but there are now very few, which is sad because the Philippines has a wide variety of these. Most of the signages were not legible anymore. The waste bins exemplified the sorry state of the park with garbage that has not been collected for some time.

I bet this park was a beautiful sanctuary back then. Now it felt like that beauty is not being maintained well. Rusty poles, closed gates, lot of trash on the pathways, wild grass all everywhere. I think this place is just cleaned when there is an event happening. True, it’s real close to nature when you’re inside, birds chirping, rays of the sun breaks through the leaves of huge trees, varieties of Philippine-endemic plants are being kept. But it’s clearly being abused by the visitors. And prolly the management is not seeing the problem of trash. Been here twice.

I was expecting a large enclosed garden with different ornamental flowers and plants, but what I saw was an old-growth forest, which is far better!! The forest is full of sounds, insects, birds, HUGE trees, streams, rivers, falls, plants, etc.

A great place to relax and unwind. The entrance fee increased by 20 pesos compared to what is shown on Google. It is also far but it's worth the travel. I suggest people to go early to enjoy the nature trail. Wear comfy clothes and shoes and bring food.

It is a great place to be one with nature. The verdant forest-like set up with picnic tables with trees as the main cover, the sound of rushing water and the singing of the birds and insects infuse that with cool breeze and you have your nature haven...a place to relax and meditate if you may. This place is great for picnics and just a place to be in when one desires to breakaway from the hustle and bustle of urban life.

It is recommended for family picnics with nature. Mobile network and internet connections are weak. Source of electricity is also a concern, so bring powerbanks. Comfort Rooms requires maintenance. Tenting is allowed however, it is until 4pm only, no overnight stays. You will have to pay entrance fees. It is a very pleasant, quiet, calming and breezy place to relax.

Nice piece of forest for a walk, but not worth the name "Botanic Gardens" anymore, I'm afraid. Very poor maintenance, educational functionality got lost over time (again: maintenance), completely unnecessary bureaucratic hassle before you are allowed to enter (and then only the next day!!). This could be much much better. Probably heavily underfunded...

Great place to appreciate nature. I'm giving one less star because the facilities are poorly maintained and sometimes inaccessible, even to paying customers (e.g. locked restrooms).

What a great place to learn Botany and at the same time breathe fresh air! 😊 We brought our Korean students here for an educational fieldtrip. We have recieved outstanding hospitality from the UPLB community. Thank you for all your help and assistance in making our trip a roaring success. Thank you to our tour guides who patiently and excitedly shared with our students the various fauna of the Philippines and how these biodiversity help the country's industry! What a great time! I trust that our students were able to learn a lot, and appreciate the efforts being done by the community in supporting Philippine biodiversity. 😊👍

The untamed forest and vegetation provide an impenetrable protection against the fury of the midday sun. It gives one a glimpse of what we lost to urbanization and what we cab do to get it back.
