Ganpati of Kasba Peth is famous as village deity of Pune since the time of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj... Every year, the public Ganpati procession in Pune starts from this Ganpati... Despite being the revered Ganesha, this mandal has a hand in celebrating the festival very simply every year in a very traditional manner and without any pomp and pageantry... Simple but precise and neat decoration is also its special feature...

Pune, historically significant at the confluence of the Mula and Mutha rivers, evolved from Punawadi village to a thriving metropolis. In 1630 AD, Queen Jijabai and Shivaji initiated the Shri Kasba Ganpati Mandir, marking the start of Shivaji's 'Swarajya' empire. Pune is now known as the "City of Lord Ganesh," witnessing cultural growth and grand Ganesh celebrations during the Peshwa era. The Shri Kasba Ganpati, one of Maharashtra's oldest temples, holds a central location in Pune and emphasizes women's empowerment. It also hosts a unique immersion procession and contributes to socio-economic development.

One of the oldest Ganpati temple in the heart of Pune city. Just a few steps away from Shaniwarwada and Lal mahal. This temple was originally constructed by the great maratha mother who also raised a warrior Jijau mata. One must visit this place to get experience of the maratha empire.

Beautiful old architecture in pure Pune style. This temple is one of the oldest and historically important temples in Pune. This temple has seen a beautiful childhood of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. 🙏It is near popular shaniwarwada. So you can see both places in less time.

The Ganpati of Kasba Peth holds a sacred legacy as Pune's village deity since the era of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The annual public Ganpati procession in Pune kicks off from this revered idol, marking the beginning of the city's grand festivities. Despite its esteemed status, the Kasba Peth Ganpati Mandal chooses a path of simplicity and tradition, eschewing extravagant displays. Celebrated in a very traditional manner, sans any pomp, it preserves the essence of the festival with a humble touch. The simplicity extends to the decoration – simple, precise, and neatly adorned. However, it's worth noting a minor parking issue for cars. Nevertheless, the cultural richness and traditional spirit of this celebration make it a must-visit during the festive season

Shri Kasba Ganpati plays the leading role during the immersion procession on the last Day of Ganesha Festival. Must Visit if you are in Pune.

Visited Pune's Gram Daivat i.e. Deity of the City today on 17th September, 2022. Went there early morning so no rush at all. Able to offer garlands and prasad. Also sat there for sometime. The temple is old and we can look around the old architecture, photos and have an idea about the type of houses in those times.

This is considered as the first mandal of honour in the historic Pune City amongst the five. Devotees arrive in huge numbers to take the blessings of Lord Ganesha. Security arrangements by the police force too are quite commendable!

. The temple was commissioned by Jijausaheb, after Dadoji Konddeo reported to her that a murti of Ganpati had been found in Pune. The murti's status as the premier murti in Pune was decided by Bal Gangadhar Tilak. In the year 1630, the Maratha Aristocrat and wife of Sardar Shahaji Bhosale, Jijaubaisaheb Bhosale arrived in Pune with her then infant son, Chhatrapati Shivaji maharaj, the founder of Maratha Empire. Around this time, along with other seven families, the Thakar Family migrated to Pune from the village of Indi, Bijapur district in present-day state of Karnataka. Shri Vinayak Bhatt Thakar also carried his Family deity, Lord Gajanan along with him. All these families settled near River bank around the current place of Kasba Ganapati Temple which was close to the residence of Jijabai. Jijabai perceived this as an auspicious moment[citation needed] and promptly decided to build a temple, which is popularly known as the Kasba Ganpati Mandir. Since then, Pune is also known as the city of Ganesh. The Peshwas were ardent followers of Lord Ganesh. During their regime Shaniwarwada witnessed grand celebrations for Lord Ganesh. In 1893, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, the Indian Nationalist Leader, initiated the now famous Ganesh Festival. His intention was to gather people sharing similar ideas and exchange thoughts to deal with the British ruler. He started celebrating Ganesh Festival from his own house called Kesari Wada. Due to his personal popularity and initiative, Ganesh Festival became a public festival soon afterwards. There was rivalry among the various mandals regarding the privilege of immersing the murti first on the last day of the Ganpati festival. Bal Gangadhar Tilak resolved the rivalry and declared the privilege of first immersion to Shri Kasba Ganpati, as it is the local deity of Pune.
