Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam is a historic temple tank situated in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. It was built by King Thirumalai Nayak in the 17th century. The tank covers an area of about 16 acres, making it one of the largest temple tanks in Tamil Nadu. The tank is renowned for its steps, mandapams (pavilions), and the central island where the Mariamman temple is located. The tank's significance is highlighted during the annual Teppakulam Float Festival, where the deities Meenakshi and Sundareswarar are placed on a beautifully decorated float and taken around the tank amidst grand celebrations. The construction of Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam was an engineering marvel of its time, as it involved intricate architecture and innovative water management techniques to store and distribute water. The tank also serves as a water reservoir for irrigation purposes in the surrounding areas. The temple tank and its surroundings have historical, religious, and cultural importance, making it a must-visit destination for tourists and devotees alike. Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam also holds cultural and religious significance. The annual Teppakulam Float Festival, which takes place during the Tamil month of Thai (January-February), is one of the major events held at the tank. During this festival, idols of deities Meenakshi and Sundareswarar are placed on a beautifully adorned float and taken around the tank in a grand procession. Devotees from all around gather to witness and participate in this event. The tank and its surroundings have become an integral part of Madurai’s cultural heritage, attracting visitors, devotees, and history enthusiasts alike. The combination of its historical importance, architectural marvel, and religious practices make Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam a significant landmark in the city’s landscape.

We went there early in the morning and nothing was open. This place looks more beautiful in the evening. The temple is in the middle of the water and no boat service was there at 7AM hence we couldn't visit the temple. We did click good pics here as the spot was amazing.

Nice place to relax especially at evening time. Many Food stalls and kids friendly games are good. Many western style foodstall rather than our traditional foods. Good to have a walk-around for 30 to 40 mins. Saturday and sunday it is very crowded and Two wheeler parking is getting very difficult. No proper arrangements for handling the amount of vechicles is disappointing. Besides bond There is Siva Temple there. During Shivaratri they have managed the traffice very well But in normal days its getting harder parking vechicles. Boating allowed during day time upto 5 PM and there is a Break time at 1 to 3 PM.

Great temple. Must come in the evening. Otherwise we cannot enjoy it to the fullest. There is a small but crowdy temple nearby. Please do visit there also.

This is located in the middle of water and there is no transport to reach this place. All we can do is just watch from far. With the evening lights it looks beautiful from the main road but we can not park our vehicle due to the heavy traffic. Beside of the road, There is a mariamman temple.
