This is one of the must visiting points in North Bengal tour. This bears all kinds of animals, birds and reptiles. This place also contains a museum which is natural. The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute is located here. This zoo is all time favourite to both the kids and the adults. As entry fees Rs. 110 is allotted per head. The kids upto 5 years are allowed to enter at free of cost. For foreigners the entry ticket costs Rs. 180 per head. The area is huge and vivid. All kinds of rules and regulations are maintained properly here. This place is an attractive point to the tourists all times. I really recommend this place to visit.

β€’ This zoo is different from others because of its hilly terrain. Quite large and covered with lush greenery. β€’ Ticket price is 110 rupes per head. β€’ Suitable for all apart from those who can't walk properly especially old peoples, because many wards in the zoo are in high places you have to walk better say climb. β€’ Special attraction of this zoo is Red Panda along with Tiger, snow leopard, Bears, Black Panther, etc. β€’ With that one ticket, one can visit the Himalayan Mountaineers Institute (HMI), It's a kind of museum all about Himalaya and Mount Everest. β€’ It has a another museum related to preserved animals species which is also quiet good. β€’ HMI provides you opportunity for rock climbing and other mountain sports. β€’ The zoo provides food shops and shopping options of winter clothing, local garments and ornaments. β€’ Zoo provides clean lavatory and urinary. β€’ Over all it's a nice place to visit when you're in Darjeeling, to cover the whole zoo you need minimum 3 hours time.

As I stepped into the enchanting world of the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, I was immediately captivated by the breathtaking beauty that surrounded me. Nestled in the lush greenery of the Eastern Himalayas, this zoological park promised a unique and unforgettable experience, and it did not disappoint. The crisp mountain air and the aroma of pine trees greeted me as I began my journey through the park. The sprawling landscape offered a picturesque backdrop to the diverse range of Himalayan flora and fauna. The well-maintained pathways guided me through the different sections of the park, each unveiling a new chapter of the fascinating biodiversity of the region. My first stop was at the Red Panda enclosure, and I was awe-struck by the adorable creatures lazily lounging on tree branches. Their fiery red fur contrasted beautifully with the vibrant greenery, creating a scene straight out of a nature documentary. The park's commitment to conservation and breeding programs was evident, and the informative signage provided valuable insights into the efforts being made to protect these endangered species. As I continued my exploration, I encountered various species of Himalayan birds, each displaying its unique colors and plumage. The Himalayan Monal, with its vibrant hues, was a true spectacle, and the park's aviary allowed me to witness these magnificent birds up close. The sense of serenity and connection with nature was palpable, making me appreciate the importance of preserving such rich biodiversity. One of the highlights of my visit was the Snow Leopard enclosure. These elusive and majestic creatures prowled their territory with a regal demeanor, offering me a rare glimpse into their natural behavior. The conservation initiatives undertaken by the park to protect these elusive cats were commendable, and it left me with a profound sense of responsibility towards the fragile ecosystems of the Himalayas. As I concluded my visit, I couldn't help but marvel at the efforts of the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park in promoting wildlife conservation and education. The park not only provided a sanctuary for endangered species but also served as a crucial educational hub, fostering awareness about the fragile Himalayan ecosystem. Leaving the park, I carried with me not just memories of the incredible wildlife I had encountered but also a heightened sense of environmental consciousness. The Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park had not only offered me a glimpse into the natural wonders of the Himalayas but had also left an indelible mark on my heart, inspiring me to contribute towards the preservation of our planet's precious biodiversity.

A wonderful tourist attraction among the mountains. You have to buy tickets first which is Rs 110/person. Though it was Friday but the line was long so come earlier if you want to avoid rush. Museum ticket is also included so don't forget to visit it. Their main attraction is Red panda and snow leopard but there are other animals also.

Anyone can get never bored of this place . This place is cleaned properly and is different from any other Zoo. Red Pandas are a key feature of this place but Tigers, Clouded leopards , the different varieties of birds also attract the attention of the visitors here....you need a minimum time of 2-3 hours to explore this place entirely as there are fun activities inside for kids , The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and a museum. The museum is full of informative and interesting facts , what does it not have!

This zoo is a must-visit place when you are in Darjeeling. The zoo is a very huge and wide variety of wild animals and birds. You can get to see the royal Bengal tiger, snow leopard, black panther and whatnot. I was very excited to see the red pandas it was a very cute experience. The combined ticket for the zoo and HMI is 110β‚Ή. The zoo is very well-maintained and clean and very very huge which involves a lot of walking, so carry your own water bottles as the walk will be tiring eventually. If you are visiting the zoo with your kid then he/she will be more than happy to see the animals.

However, it's always a good idea to conduct your own research and make an informed decision based on your personal beliefs and interests before visiting

A Wildlife Wonderland: Himalayan Zoological Park Darjeeling Nestled in the enchanting hills of Darjeeling, the Himalayan Zoological Park is a captivating destination for nature enthusiasts. Its diverse collection of Himalayan fauna, including majestic tigers and adorable red pandas, is truly remarkable. The park's commitment to conservation and its stunning mountain vistas add to the overall experience. Though the provision of more detailed information boards would enhance the educational aspect, the park's well-maintained trails, knowledgeable staff, and unforgettable opportunities, like hand-feeding red pandas, make it a must-visit attraction. Himalayan Zoological Park stands as a wildlife wonderland, deserving its four-star rating.

A beautiful place for all tourists irrespective of age. The zoo located at Darjeeling must be viewed. Ticket price Rs 110/-(one hundred and ten) for adults aged 7 years above. No ticket for children. Tiffin centre, toilet, rest point available at this place. Most Jungle animals like Himalayan goats, deer, chitah, black leopard, monkeys, birds, red panda, reptiles etc attract all tourists. You can spend 2-4 hrs here by maintaining peace. Himalayan Mountaineering institute is also a great view point here. I personally suggest you visit this amazing place.

During my visit to Darjeeling, a picturesque hill station nestled in the Himalayas of West Bengal, India, I had the pleasure of exploring the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, a renowned wildlife sanctuary and conservation center that offers a unique experience for nature and animal lovers. The Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, also known as Darjeeling Zoo, is spread across a vast area of beautiful landscape and is home to a diverse range of Himalayan fauna, including rare and endangered species. The park is named after Padmaja Naidu, a prominent Indian freedom fighter and poet, and is dedicated to the conservation, breeding, and research of Himalayan wildlife. One of the main attractions of the zoo is the conservation of the elusive and endangered Red Panda, which is native to the Himalayan region. The zoo is known for its successful breeding program for Red Pandas, and visitors can catch glimpses of these adorable creatures in their natural habitat-like enclosures. The zoo also houses other rare and endangered species such as Snow Leopard, Tibetan Wolf, Himalayan Salamander, Himalayan Tahr, and many more. The zoo is well-maintained and provides a safe and natural environment for the animals, with spacious enclosures, ample vegetation, and proper care and attention from the zookeepers. It also promotes awareness about wildlife conservation through educational displays and informative signage, which helps visitors learn about the importance of protecting endangered species and their habitats. Apart from the wildlife, the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park also offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, including the majestic Kanchenjunga, which is the third highest peak in the world. The serene and peaceful atmosphere of the park, combined with the awe-inspiring views of the Himalayas, creates a unique and memorable experience for visitors. In conclusion, my visit to the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park in Darjeeling was a fascinating encounter with the rich biodiversity of the Himalayan region. The park's conservation efforts, successful breeding programs, and educational initiatives make it a significant destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers. The opportunity to observe rare and endangered species in their natural habitat-like enclosures and enjoy the stunning mountain views made it a truly memorable experience during my trip to Darjeeling.

Darjeeling is of course a good place to visit any time of the year. It's a good relief from the scorching heat in the Summers and a lovely experience when it snows in the Winters, not to mention the thrilling bus ride up and down the deadly curves of the mountain. It's a 'city on slope' ❀ The people are beautiful and welcoming. They are mostly Nepalis and Biharis. It is a must-visit tourist spot. And about the zoo, it's really cool, and even has museums inside.

Absolutely amazing 😍 It's very green and scenic but the number of animals is very few. What I really like about this place is that they have not caged any animals and have tried to keep them close to their natural habitat. It is more like a long walk through a jungle. Among the few options, they have the rare Royal Bengal tiger & Red panda. I have watched red panda for the first time in this zoo. I watched the royal bengal tiger very close. Inside the zoo, there is a separate section for the Museum. Where the tiger skin, the legs of the elephant, snakes are preserved.

Everyone should visit this zoo while in Darjeeling. It has all these beautiful birds along with some of these majestic animals like Leopard, Black Panther, Red Panda, Bear, Tiger, Wolves among others. We were just so lucky as all except Tiger gave us a full active view in winter as shown in pics here. Just Rs 110 per person and you can have a day picnic with your family n friends here without any worry. The snake section is closed for winters.

Visited this zoological park in Darjeeling on Dec, 2023, and it was a fantastic experience. The park is home to a variety of animals and birds and with the most famous red panda. The atmosphere was peaceful, making it a perfect place for a outing. If you're in Darjeeling, don't miss the opportunity to explore this wonderful park and connect with nature., Entry fees you have to pay, parking is available besides the main road (not besides the zoo), shops are available outside for having snacks and to buy dresses or decorative things, inside zoo you will find museum which kept preserved animals and just beside HMI museum is also there which has briliant collection of mountaineering items, few activities were added recently outside of it which you can enjoy(Paid service 🀭)

A must visit on your next trip to Darjeeling, the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoo in Darj is home to some of the best and rarest of animals and birds when it comes to seeing Himalayan wildlife in a controlled environment. Do not miss the elusive (but well worth your patience) red panda and the majestic black panther. If lucky, you can also see the snow leopard and white tiger. Please note that this zoo requires a decent amount of uphill and downhill walking and will take around 2 hours or more to enjoy properly. TIP - come early in the morning to get the zoo to yourself and avoid crowds.

The main & only attraction is the red panda. That you can see really close up. Otherwise, the size is pretty small and not much animals are there. Some other interesting animals are himalayan wolf and snow leopard along with normal leopard and royal bengal tigers. But i was not impressed with their sizes and energy, probably born & brought up in zoo only, doesnt look wild. Good place to time pass, but i would suggest not to make it a 'must' in your travel itinerary. For indians entry feesis 110 rs and more for other nationalities.

The zoo and the animals are amazing.. except for some crackbrained people who think that they are entitled to the animals' attention and keep on hollering at the big cats even if there are signs put up everywhere that these cats are upto 5 times sensitive towards noise. There was one particular leopard which one could see was a bit distressed with this and kept on pacing up and down for a while. There are even zoo staffers standing with a silence please sign but that seems to be in vain.

On the morning of my return from Darjeeling, I went to this museum after breakfast. After entering, I first got to know about the various animals living around the Himalayan glaciers and their lifestyle. The Royal Bengal Tiger is also there. Then I went to Padmaja Naidu Museum. The tomb of Padmaja Nairu is in front of the museum. Before entering inside, I saw the notice that the use of cameras is prohibited, so I could not take pictures inside. But I saw everything very well. There how a mountaineer climbs with different equipment and how much hardships and sacrifices are made. The equipment used by famous mountaineers is preserved there. Moreover, the carcasses of various species of animals from the Indian subcontinent have been preserved that look almost exactly like those animals. It goes without saying that it is a good place to visit and learn.

This is the best attraction in Darjeeling for me. You must not skip this place. Sharing a detailed review: Location: North of Darjeeling town. Easily accessible. Local cabs available. Walkable distance from Rangeet valley ropeway. Zoo complex: Neat and clean, well maintained with a good forest cover. HMI and Bengal Natural Museum is located in the same complex. The only negative is the slope. Elders will find it very difficult to cover the whole complex for too much of an uphill walk. They should keep electric carts to ferry seniors. Attractions: The primary and the most celebrated attraction is the Red Panda. The interesting fact is that they kept these cute beings in a natural enclosure, not within a cage or something. The other celebrated animal here is the endangered mountain leopard. Charismatic in appearance with a long tail, thoroughly examining everyone with their magnificent but sharp blue eyes. And and and.. Baghira (The Black Panther). Other mammals include: Royal Bengal tigers (two handsome friends. One went for a health checkup while the other was panicking for his friend, check my video), mountain wolves and foxes, Himalayan bears, Mountain civet (bham beral), mountain goats, sheep and bisons and 4-5 species of mountain cats🐈. Reptiles: Unfortunately, we went in March and it was a hibernation period for them, so we couldn't see anything. Mind this if you are visiting Darjeeling in winter. Birds: Too many colorful birds, macaws, cockatoos, parrots and much more. The names I didn't remember because I never heard of them before. A wide range of colorful species constantly singing and chirping. Aquarium: The aquarium is a disappointment. Small and just some local species are present. Time: It will take 3 hours to complete all of these with HMI and Natural history museum without any food or beaks. Ticket: β‚Ή110 per person for the whole complex and miraculously no wait time. #follow me for more such reviews in and around Darjeeling area.

A zoo was established on 14 August 1958 in the Birch Hill neighbourhood of Darjeeling under the Department of Education of the Govwenment of West Bengal with a goal to study and preserve Himalayan fauna. Its first Director and founder was Dilip Kumar Dey. Mr. Dey, who belonged to the Indian Forest Service was on deputation to the Department of Education for the express purpose of establishing a high-altitude zoological park specializing mainly in Himalayan Flora and fauna. The park’s prized possessions were a pair of Siberain (Ussuri) tiger presented to the Government of India by Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev in 1960. Over the years famous names in the world of Conservation have been attracted to and have visited the HZP. The zoo now contains endangered animals like snow leopards, pandas, gorals (mountain goat), Siberian tigers and a variety of endangered birds. However, there has been concern regarding the fact that the Himalayan animals may face a threat due to rising temperatures in the hilly area. In January 1972, the park became a registered society, with an agreement that maintenance costs would be shared by the central and state governments. In May 1993, the park was transferred to the West Bengal Department of Forests. The park was renamed in 1975 when Indira Gandhi, the Prime Minister of India, visited the park and dedicated it to the memory of Padmaja Naidu

This zoo is a home to a wide variety of Himalayan fauna, including the endangered snow leopard, red panda, Himalayan black bear, Tibetan wolf, and Siberian tiger. It is also known for its successful breeding programs for red pandas and snow leopards. The park is well-maintained and provides a safe and natural habitat for the animals. You can enjoy a scenic walk around the park and observe the animals in their natural habitat. The zoo also offers various educational programs and activities for children and adults. But the ticket price might hurt you. Since it is located in a cold hilly region, so there's a lots of maintenance required. Therefore the entry ticket is bit expensive in comparison to the other Zoo's of India. If you are coming to Darjeeling for the first time, then I think you should visit for once. Overall, Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park is a must-visit destination for animal lovers and nature enthusiasts. It provides a unique opportunity to observe and learn about the diverse wildlife of the Himalayan region.

A must visit place in Darjeeling especially for children. The zoo is well maintained and there are a variety of animals. Special mention for Red Panda and snow leopard, which are very rare. The entry ticket price is Rs 110 that also includes entry to Himalayan mountaineering institute and museum. Children below 6 years can enter free. We walked to the zoo from Chaurasta, which took roughly 25 min.

This has to be one of the most well maintained and beautiful zoos that I have ever been to. Many of the animals were kept in open spaces. The animals looked well fed, well cared for, and happy. We were able to see the beautiful red pandas and snow leopard. Apart from that, the black panther, Himalayan wolves, and the birds were a sight to behold. The place wasn't crowded. Authorities were well placed and took care of patrons. Some of the visitors were unruly and loud, and were acting in a way that made me want to put them in cages instead. But that's not the zoo's fault, of course. They tried to maintain as much decorum as possible. Overall, it was a really pleasant experience and would recommend everyone to visit the place at least once.

Before visiting any place, I conduct thorough research. However, due to my busy schedule, I didn't have enough time to explore this time. As an unexpected surprise, I found out in the morning that our group of 17 members was going to visit the zoo. Although I am not particularly fond of zoos, I found myself drawn to Padmaja Naidu Zoo. Its location amidst the breathtaking hills of Darjeeling creates a captivating backdrop, providing both locals and tourists with a memorable wildlife experience. I was impressed by the impeccable cleanliness and well-maintained surroundings of the zoo. The diverse range of wildlife on display was truly remarkable. I felt a sense of thrill and excitement as I encountered rare and endangered species such as the red panda, snow leopard, Himalayan wolf, and Siberian tiger. The animal enclosures were spacious and thoughtfully designed, allowing the animals to roam freely and ensuring their well-being. Within the premises of the zoo, I spent a significant amount of time in front of the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) and captured numerous photographs. The institute offers a fascinating insight into the world of mountaineering and pays tribute to the legendary Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, who conquered Mount Everest alongside Sir Edmund Hillary. The museum located at the top of the institute showcases a remarkable collection of artifacts, photographs, and exhibits, providing a comprehensive understanding of the history and challenges of mountaineering. Although photography was not allowed inside the museum, I thoroughly enjoyed their exhibits, particularly the preserved original specimen of a crocodile. Furthermore, the zoo provided clean restroom facilities, well-maintained walkways, easily accessible drinking water, and conveniently located seating areas throughout the premises. Additionally, there were various activities available for visitors to enjoy. Whether you are a nature enthusiast, a wildlife lover, or simply seeking a serene escape, I highly recommend visiting this exceptional zoo. It offers a unique and enriching experience that will leave a lasting impression.

Tocket is 110 per person for indians. Zoo and HMI is inside it. Very good conservation. You will see markings on the road about the walk and calorie loss you will make. It might take 2 hours to cover the full area. Dont miss HMI and the museum. I collected a fridge magnet too from there. Weather is very good. Carry an umbrella because there is no shed. Toilet is there for male and female but not that clean. There is a cafe where you will find good food. Price matches with MRP. Quality is good.

Excellent selection of animals - most of which you won't find at normal zoos in India. In addition, the way they have constructed their enclosures is wonderful - for example, some bird enclosures have clear glass walls through which you can see the bird as if it were right in front of you and not behind an enclosure. Others have their viewing path upwards and the enclosures downwards so you can look at the animals without a fence in the way. Very well planned and diligently maintained.

The zoo in Darjeeling is a must visit. You have to walk a bit up to visit the zoo. The HMI and zoo are at the same location. Ticket price is Rs 110. Lots of shop to buy warm clothes, street food shops along the way to visit zoo.

The zoo located in Darjeeling is a nice place. Visited 2 times in my life. First time on 2008 and 2nd time on 2022. Tucket charge increase 10 times than before. You can see few himalayan animala and birds there. I loved the Red Panda more. The only problem is that the cars will not drop you in front of the gate. So for old people it is little difficult to climb up to the gate of the zoo from the parking lot. Expected lots more animal to see but there are few only.
