Kaaphal
hill
is
a
quaint,
authentic
farmstay
at
a
slight
uphill
walk
from
Berinag
Thal
road,
half
a
km
from
Udiyari
bend.
Remote
but
very
safe
for
solo
female
travellers
like
me,
removed
from
city
comforts,
perfect
if
you're
feeling
adventurous.
Accessibility
might
be
a
stretch
if
you
don't
have
your
own
vehicle,
but
it's
very
doable
by
shared
taxis
and
buses.
The
place
I
stayed
at
was
closer
to
the
entrance
where
you're
first
greeted
by
a
village
style
kitchen
and
dining
cottage.
The
stay
itself
was
in
one
of
the
four
rustic
cabin
rooms
with
a
common
area,
essentials
and
attached
bathrooms
provided.
Wifi
signal
is
pretty
good,
ideal
for
people
who
WFH.
You
can
see
beautiful
mountain
ranges,
early
sunrises
from
the
common
semi
library-cum-game
area.
It
has
some
interesting
books
and
games
in
stock.
A
walk
up
the
hill
is
highly
recommended,
although
some
fitness
is
required
to
do
it
easily.
You
will
spot
organic
plant
beds,
tree/bush
varieties
and
many
birds
here.
There
are
also
medicinal,
indigenous
flowers
and
fruits
like
kaaphal
(reason
for
the
name
of
stay),
oranges,
wild
yellow
raspberries
which
can
be
picked
and
eaten.
The
higher
up
the
hill
you
go,
the
better
your
view
of
the
Majestic
Kumaoni
Himalayas,
especially
Nandadevi,
Nandakot
and
neighboring
peaks.
It
gets
pitch
dark
after
sunset
so
dont
forget
to
pack
your
torch.
The
place
also
has
a
gaushala
unit
where
ailing
cows
are
nursed
to
health
with
love.
Aunty's
herbal
tea
is
a
magic
potion
which
immediately
reduced
altitude
related
swelling
in
my
hands
and
feet.
I
had
also
had
the
good
fortune
of
tasting
Shilajit
tea
made
by
Tarun
Mehara,
the
owner.
He
is
a
passionate
and
well
informed
person
who
believes
in
the
goodness
of
organic
produce
and
the
Himalayan
bounty
of
plants
and
terrain.
His
wife
is
a
sweet,
soft
spoken
lady
who
cooks
authentic
kumaoni
food
with
fruit
and
veg
from
the
farm
on
a
traditional
Chulha.
They're
both
warm
and
hospitable.
Do
not
expect
luxury
here
as
the
beauty
is
in
the
rustic,
real
nature
of
this
unique
homestay.
You
will
be
close
to
the
jungle,
in
the
lap
of
mother
earth.
The
mental
peace
and
relaxation
I
experienced
is
immense,
so
I
think
it
is
a
great
spot
for
introspection
as
well
as
moving
your
body
-
the
best
way
to
get
in
touch
with
oneself.
A
one
of
a
kind
experience
for
sure.
