This monastery is so soothing and calming... You can walk up to the monastery from the Mirik Lake but it's a steep climb...not recommended for elderly people But if you walk up to the steep hill...it makes the visit more worthwhile. When I entered the monastery my mind went still and I just stood there for about 10 mins. After being there for a while I went out and sat in one of the benches and saw all the students of the monastery and school playing football together. The gentle cool breeze blowing in the face and all the students playing I just felt like sitting there for a while. Go there take a moment appreciate the beauty and come back refreshed in a new outlook!❤️

Very nice and peaceful place with a birdseye view of Mirik. Inside of the monastery there's plenty of area to just roam around and inside the castle everything looks so attractive and symmetrical. A must visit for anyone coming to Mirik.

It was a great time there at Bokar Monastery, Mirik, West Bengal. I visited on a rainy day. I witnessed how Lamas were chanting to the Lord Buddha. I have also experienced that how Lamas were being served food at the time of chanting.

Amazing view from Gompa. Amazing job done by Gompa. Went to Gompa with relatives. Head teacher was so kind to take us round the Gompa and explained to us all the Amazing altruistic work Gompa is doing to our future generations by educating. There was retreat going on people from local and neighbouring himalayain communities during this Saga Dawa time. Rejoice.

A short walk from Mirik Lake reach you a beautiful Monastery. The view from the walk and the Monastery premises is exciting. Inside the monastery too is well kept. The monastery belongs to Karma Pa (Sect).

Peace and Serenity is what can describe this place. Mesmerising architecture with glaring handicrafts will surely make you fall in love with the place. The monk and kids playing and studying at the backdrop gives a chill thinking about their life and will make you ponder on our materialistic life. Must visit place if you are in Mirik. Pictures are in front of the Monastery and from Mirik Lake. No monks or students were disturbed in the process.

it is a thriving monastic center with nearly five hundred monks participating in a full schedule devoted to studying, practicing and sustaining the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha. the monastery has two retreat centers nearby and a monastic college, a Shedra. Situated at an elevation of about 5800 feet from the sea level, the Bokar Monastery is the highest point in Mirik.

One of the most beautiful monastery, but, most tourists visiting Mirik, does not know or visit, or, tour cabs don't include it in the program, to reduce the effort and time. About 1.5 kms by narrow, steep road, from Hotel Jagjit/Mirik Health Centre, it is a really worth visit. You will find yourself at peace there. Also, view of Mirik lake from the road above is awesome. There is a separate meditation wing, where, once monks enter, cannot come out for two years, till the course finishes. Built on solid concrete, 7 storey high, outside art works by Tibetan artists, inaugurated by Karmapa himself, over with one lakh disciples present, around 2005-2006. There was an earlier small monastery beside it before that.

Highest point of Mirik Situated at about a kilometre East/South East of Mirik Lake (and about a couple of kilometres from Mirik Bus Stop), is this picturesque Buddhist monastery. Positioned on the top of a hill, the approach from the lake is really such a steep climb over narrow and twisted road that trekking up the hill surely pose a real challenge. Once you climb up the narrow lanes that are clustered with buildings, you are rewarded with the amazing sight of this great Monastery, Buddhist Institute and Retreat Centres. Bokar Ngedon Chokhor Ling stands so prominent on the hilltop that its beauty can be admired right from the Mirik Lake down below. Like other monasteries, the paintings are colourful and marvellous. Once you enter, please read the universal advice on display. Probably the most befitting teaching to all denominations of the world irrespective of their faiths. Everyone who visits this shrine should patiently read up to the final passage and try to propagate the message.

A really nice and decorated monastery. The view from the upper floor is nice as well. However, the inside of the monastery is much better than the outside. It has a lot of paintings and statues with high level craftsmanship. The main hall also feels very spiritual.
