Vegetarian food availability: 2 stars Used to be very famous but it is now very disappointing. The food is either very stale or spicy. We ordered kadbu which was soft and fluffy but the chutney as well as the sambar were very spicy. The mandaki was mediocre but once again the chutney ruined it. The paddu and kashaya is the only thing that is good in this restaurant. It has remained the same with the same authenticity. The dosa was not very good either at it had not been fully cooked but luckily we got that removed from our bill as we informed them about this.

It's really disappointing to rate this hotel with two star... But I have to as I had a very bad experience visiting this hotel... Management should seriously think about the customer satisfaction and hygiene of the hotel. I remember there was a time this hotel used to be best and well known for vegetarian foods. But now a days it's loosing it's reputation. I ordered masala dosa but it was deelpy roasted and too oily. Uddin vada was also too oily and the chutney was tasting salty. Also tables were not clean and tidy also the floor out there. I request management to consider customers feed back seriously otherwise.

A very old restaurant to dine it. Ambiance too looks like old one. A very peaceful place with classical music. It opens at 7.30am. Service is really good and quick. We ordered paddu, masala dosa and awlaki. Awlaki was so different in taste. It was little sweet. You can park the car by road side. It was worth for money. They prepared paddu in coconut oil. Food 5/5 Taste 5/5 Service 5/5 If you are looking for old and good hotels go for it.

Had lunch here during a visit to Shivamogga with family. The thali was excellent and we got multiple servings of the side dishes. Service was quick and excellent. We also tried the avalalkki - mosaru which was a unique item for us. There is a nice little shop selling Malnad specialities inside the restaurant. We picked up yummy sweets and snacks from here. Definitely recommend eating here if you are in the area.

Must try Avalakki Mossru and one of the best Masal Dosa ( Gari gari masal dosa)I had, very delicious compared to Bangalore's Vidyarthi Bhavan and CTR. What I don't like is there was no proper seating arrangement with having lot of space. Need to wait for long time. On Sunday morning I see single supplier serving 10 tables. I feel Management is not showing much intrest towards customer hospitality. At 9.30am there was limited dishes available. Only Dosa, Upma and Avalakki mossru was available. There was no Idli, Kesaribath and Puddu. Management need to learn how Vidyarthi Bhavan or CTR manages with huge crowd. I don't expect huge crowd like Bangalore in Shimoga, but hotel has plenty of space don't know to utilize.

Always been a must visit place, food is so yummy will end up ordering again. Puttu and masala dosa and crispy vada is a must. Staff are friendly and it’s surprising that taste remains same over so many years. This shows how much dedication Mgmt and staff have put in. Great place !

Been visiting Shimoga since my childhood but got to try Meenakshi Bhavan only recently. The place is packed for breakfast on weekends and is chaotic. There is no one to manage the crowds, very few waiters on the first floor and people crowding the tables and grabbing empty chairs. With difficulty we managed to share a table with others. Their vada and masala dosa are the best n must try. We also tried their avalakki which was well made but with little sugar in it. Finished our breakfast with coffee which was good. They also have a store that sells variety of packed snacks. Tip: Visit early on weekends and make friends with the waiters for faster service

Famous old hotel …! A must visit hotel in shivmogga for breakfast. Masala dosa was too good and crispy, a finger licking taste. U must try every item like idli, open dose, mandakki, paddu, end up with coffee.

If you're looking for a slice of history and a taste of authentic South Indian Dish in Shivamogga, then look no further than the oldest hotel in town. This charming establishment exudes old-world charm and provides a glimpse into a bygone era. The hotel has retained much of its original character, and the decor is a mix of vintage and contemporary styles. The staff is welcoming, friendly, and always ready to assist with any request. The star of the show, however, is undoubtedly the food. The Masala Dose is, without a doubt, the best I've tasted in a long time. It is crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and filled with a spicy and flavorful potato mixture. The chutneys and sambar served alongside are the perfect accompaniment, and I found myself unable to resist a second serving. Equally impressive was the Paddu, which is a lesser-known dish but equally delicious. These bite-sized dumplings are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with a delectable blend of spices and vegetables. I could have easily made a meal out of these alone. Overall, the oldest hotel in town is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience a slice of history and enjoy some truly outstanding South Indian Food. The Masala Dose and Paddu are not to be missed, and I can't wait to return and try some of the other dishes on the menu.

It's a must visit place in Shimoga to taste some good local food... We visited for evening snacks.. Everything that we ordered tasted good. Meenakshi special davangere bene masala dosa was extremely tasty with the goodness of butter and potato bhajji inside the dosa. Vada - best ever Vada tasted till date, it was soft and cripsy served with chutney.. Masala puri - it was good less added sweet taste.. Dahi puri - it was soft when it was served to me apart from that taste wise less spicy and less sweet but was good.. Coffee - served with 2 shade decoction in a glass, not too light nd not too dark tasted nd looked good.. Ambiance gives tradional house feels.. Parking is kinda difficult here.. Service was quick and fast, server recommendeds were good..

Five star rated and well deserved. Be prepared to wait for few mins as it’s always crowded. We went at 9am and idly was out of stock. Had other items as shown in pics and all food items were awesome. Sambar and chutney reminds of typical south bangalore restaurants. Highly recommended

This is one of the hotels that I have been visiting from my childhood since 90’s and they still seem to have retained taste, ofcourse it has slightly varied over time. I would definitely recommend crispy vada here, and idly. Second order of items of would be mossaru avalaki and dosa. Don’t miss the Malanad style coffee here. Don’t expect too much on the ambience part they still have retro style but with plastic chairs which has been the case from long time. 😅

They are not very special, Their prices are very unreasonable. Food is good like any other restaurant, but prices are double. As no compitator exist around, they exploit the opportunity. Not recommended.

The restaurant is located in the heart of Shimoga town. It serves tasty vegetarian food. South Indian, North Indian and Chinese food available. Hotel open from 7 am to 9pm. A must visit restaurant. Prices are affordable. Staff is supportive. You will see a snack shop within which sell snacks and specialities of Malnad. Carry masks and sanitisers.

Visited it after seeing the rave reviews in Google. And must say, it is deserved. We ordered Masala Dosa, Mysore Bun, and what I thought would be poha. The masala dosa was excellent - slightly different from the regular masala dosas you get absolutely everywhere. This dosa is thicker, fluffier, and has a really good taste of its own. Even the 'masala' - potato curry - was actually so good, unlike the pasty and bland stuff yoou get otherwise. It's just the 'poha' that I personally was disappointed with as it was not poha, but the sweet aval that came. It was totally not what I wanted for breakfast, so I could not eat even a single spoon of it. Otherwise, it was actually good on its own. This bad choice was because the staff in the restaurant do not know English or Hindi. As a result, there was communication problem, and anyone who doesn't know Kannada may face this issue in knowing what to order, as they did not provide any menu either. So, if you're an outisider, stick to the regular dishes you are aware of, such as Dosas and Idly. The tea was also really good.

Pathetic customer service and the management don't care about improving it. We love the taste but customer service matters more than anything. 1. They have extra tables but don't serve even when there's large crowd waiting 2. They don't maintain the order of waiting customer. 3. Food waiting time is too much 4. Owner is always detached from what's happening and is concerned only about receiving bill 5. Servers are arrogant. They don't bother even if a customer is waiting for 30 min before taking the order unless you beg them I wish the place had better involvement of whoever is running it. Building reputation takes long time but it takes much mre to keep it Edit: when asked owner about it, his reply was: we have run it like this for 100 years and we won't change Does this place deserve the love people are showing!!?

No word for taste of food it's just woww. Must try masala dosa, medu vada, open dosa, rava idli and coffee. Masala dosa size is small but the taste 💯. Medu vada is crispiest. And the main reason for which I ordered idli is their SAMBAR. Never tasted such sambar till now. They have upstairs where we can enjoy the food in beautiful aesthetic location. But they don't give service to all tables all the time most of the tables will have no service boards. One thing I must tell is their service is really bad I don't know whether it happened only with us or same for everyone but one off their waiter never attended us to take orders and we have been there for continues 4-5 days and every time we have to call him to take orders felt really bad about this and thought of never visiting again because of this reason but their food tastes the bestttttt. They don't have much options of food only few breakfast foods and thali. Price is average. They charge extra 5% for parcels. NOTE: THEY DON'T ACCEPT UPI. ONLY CASH OR CARDS ARE ACCEPTED.

Traditional menu maintained but, they should pay attention to hygiene. It was distressing to gulp in food when I saw well fed 🪳 s making parade on ground!!! (Thank God!!! Not in the plate) Felt very very awkward especially with an international guest!!!

Horrible place. First of all service wasn't good, when we asked for a table the server said to wait even though half the floor was empty. Then after asking the manager he finally alloted one table. The dosa and coffee were so horrible that it seemed someone from another foreign country prepared them without knowing how to cook food. Had high expectations but this was definitely the worst south Indian restaurant I have ever been to in my life and that is considering that I am a south indian myself. I was so sick with food poisoning for the next 3 days after eating here that I recommend everyone else reading this review to please eat anywhere else but here. This is a legit review and if you have any love for south indian food or your taste buds/abdomen, please save yourselves from being destroyed.

Visited this place for breakfast on a Sunday Morning. It was quite crowded but managed to get a table without any hassle. This place is famous for Paddus and Open Dose. We ordered a plate of Idli Vade and Paddu to start with and they tasted decent. The service was quick. Paddu was very tasty but I have had better Paddus elsewhere. We ordered the Open dose and this was probably the highlight of the whole meal. One of the best Open butter masale dose I have ever tasted. An ideal breakfast spot in Shimoga.
