Amazing !!! I highly Recommend this place. Hasta Shilpa Heritage Village Museum Located at Alevoor Road, Manipal, Udupi Dist. You can take Local manipal bus and take an auto from Manipal Stop. Entry fees for an adult is ₹300 and Students its ₹150. Students must have an ID to Show. There are total 23 heritage houses located over almost in 2-3 Acre. It opens at 10 AM. Its a worth of payment and you can learn a lot. I suggest take a water bottle because nothing available inside. And suggest you to visit easy as the humidity is more in the locality. There was guide however due to covid now its not available. You can take the camera and Pay ₹250. Which is worth for money. And hats off to the makers, management and workers who are putting effort to run this beautiful site. 😍

Out of the world experience if you & your family are interested in seeing house the way they were even 2 centuries ago and carving 7 centuries ago. By yourself it will take 2 hrs. Monday closed. Do not wear sandals, as you have to remove them at least 12 times. Wear slips ons, which can be easily removed. Unbelievable collections of artifacts. Rs 300 entrance for general public, 150 for senior citizens. It's is really value for money. A book is also available for sale by the time you come out after the your. During the tour you will get a virtual tour guide on their app with detailed description of all the 24 houses & history of how the idea of heritage village was conceived & the man behind it.

One of the best heritage buildings preservation museums. Beautiful old cross cultural architectures are preserved in a very well planned and artistic way. Must visit this place if you are traveling to Udupi. It reminds us of the rich cultural and architectural heritage of India. The entry fee is 300/- per person but it is absolutely worth spending. It takes at least 2-3 hours to explore.

This place is a must visit once you are in Manipal. A place of priceless heritage pieces, where you get to learn how our forefathers of different cultures lived. We were fortunate to have had Mr.Srinivas Shenoy (son of the person who built this place). He explained that his father wished to preserve ancient heritage and started acquiring all these pieces with hardly any means. Truly heartening story! This place is kept well maintained and spotlessly clean. There are about 24different houses to visit and admire, which should take you between 1.5-2hrs.Ticket costs Rs.300 for adults, but totally worth it.

The Hasta Shilpa Heritage Village is a must visit for anyone traveling to this region. 24 model houses reconstructed to preserve the lost glory of traditional Indian homes is a feat achieved by a single man. The houses are adorned with original artifacts and woodwork from actual houses. If you are a lover of museums and/or old architecture and artifacts/heritage stuff, this place is for you. Tickets are reasonably priced at Rs300 per adult and Rs 150 for kids/students above 12. It will take you a good 1-1/2 to 2 hours to peacefully explore all the houses. The last entry is at 3.30pm although the place is open till 5pm Tuesday to Sunday. The place is closed on Mondays. The experience was worth it as we were a big group of 13 people of all ages. I am only including a few pictures but I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Mangalore to add this place to your bucket list - you won’t regret it!

This place consists of 23 different structures which is basically maintained in the form of village. It bears the beauty of old age houses, hospitals, essential shops and facilities. Each n every structure is well maintained and the information hung outside the house about particular structure impressed me a lot. Beautiful and must visit place 😇😂

Maranakatte is located at a distance of 16 km from Kundapura on the way to Kollur and the village is also called Kanchinakodlu. There is a Brahmalingeshwara Temple which is located on the banks of river Brahmakunda in the northside which then takes a steep turn towards east which increases the beauty of the spot. Legend Kamhasura, an asura, performed Bhairavi Yaga and pleased the divine mother and took a boon that he shouldn't be killed by any male being or entity. The asura having received the boon started wreaking havoc in the three worlds, disturbing peace and good people. The Trimurtis and all the devas prayed to the divine mother to save them from his misdeeds. The goddess sends a messenger to warn him to mend his ways but he does not relent due to his arrogance. To further gain powers, he performs severe penance to please Lord Shiva or Shankara, he suddenly loses his power of speech i.e. he becomes 'mooka' or dumb. In the battlefield he sees the divine mother and at once realizes his follies and misdeeds, but he is unable to beg forgiveness due to his state of being dumb. Jaganmata realizes this and grants him the power of speech; Mookasura( Kamhasura) repents and begs for moksha and asks of his name to stay forever. The divine mother agrees and says after slaying him, she shall be called Mookambika after him. According to Skanda Purana, Goddess Mookambika performed a Marana Homa here after killing Mookasura. After slaying the demon, the divine mother granted divinity to the demon's soul and blessed him to be known as Brahmalingeshwara. The Temple faces east side & the sanctorum faces the north. By the sides of the Sanctorum, the main lord Brahmalingeshwara there is Malayali Yakshi & vata Yakshi & also two Dwarapalakas. To the right of the Sanctorum there is a katte(colloquial Kannada)in which Sri Chakra yantra is established by Adi Shankara. Beside the “Brahmalingeshwara Gudi” there is a 'Daivadha mane' of Hashaiguli( who came from Kashi or Varanasi), Haiguli, Chikku and other parivara daivas. There is a mother-son relationship between Goddess Mookambika and Shri Brahmalingeshwara.

A paradise for heritage, art and photographers. A non profit heritage village. Best place to visit when you're in Udupi. It has got all old and beautiful installation of traditional architecture. When you enter each hall, the music played makes you to time travel to another world. Guided tours are available on sat and Sun. 1-2 hours can be spend to observe the art and experience it. Entry ticket was ₹100 for us.

This place was surprisingly amazing. We had some time before our train journey and decided to visit this place based on our google search. The expectation was low and the intent was to kill time. But what we saw blew me. It’s a treasury trove which hasn’t come to limelight as yet. This places showcases ancient homes and living spaces spanning hundreds of years in the past. Using artifacts from the past ( and they are genuine) , models have been created. As you enter them you get transported to the bygone era. I would recommend this place to all those who like museums, history, like to understand lifestyle and culture.

It's a very lovely place for those who love architecture, culture and history. We easily spend 3 hours inside. You can't buy any food or water inside, so better to bring your own. Water is readily available inside tho. You can also enter the houses and explore by yourself. Takes one back to the old eras!

If you have an interest towards architecture or have ever wondered how things were before technology took over our life, this is the must place to visit. The details in the woodworks, utensils and tools used in their time was fascinating to observe. They charge 150₹/ student and 300₹ for everyone else for the tour. For me,it was worth it. A total of 19 architectural structures to visit. Loved every bit of the evening.

A beautifully maintained tourist attraction. It has revived the ancient cultures that existed in India over the ages.... The houses have been rebuilt from the materials that were excavated from their original locations.... You can almost feel the ancient history these structures carry with them.... But the management comprises of few people and are heavily dependant on the ticket sales to maintain this beautiful site... Please do visit this heritage village if you are in the vicinity... Its worth it.

Lot of work and efforts have gone in the making of 24 beautiful house setups that take you back to centuries. Simply brilliant 👏 didn't realize how 2 hours went by while going through the amazing homes!! Only drawback was parking due to some ongoing road maintenance work..should be sorted in few days. Thank you for your quick response.

We visited this place on Saturday and reached here at 4 PM. The place closes at 5 PM, unfortunately we lagged time. The entry fee for adults is Rs300 while for kids between 6-10 is Rs150. The place brings you back in olden days. There are 24 rooms and every room shows history and culture in itself. How people had designed their homes in ancient times. Some things you still see in times today.

A must see place for Heritage structures enthusiasts. Each of the structures have been painstakingly dismantled from their original places and reconstructed here without using any modern construction techniques. The amount of work that has gone into creating this unique museum so as to preserve the local heritage is absolutely breathtaking.

This place is very beautiful with different cultures portrayed in around 24 heritage villas. Each villa is maintained so well. The architecture and wood work done in each villa is commendable. The entire site is kept neat and clean. Lots of patience required to visit each and every house. Need at least 1.5-2 hrs to visit all the houses so it's better to visit the place when it's not too hot. Entry fee is 300 per adult. For students with valid ID , entry is 150 per student.

Five stars for maintenance and the concept.. Very beautiful architecture, clean and free to move around and explore.. well set path to explore on your own.. Minor improvements required, such as the details on the intricate and antique items are missing. Could keep small notes or write a little more on the guide pdf more understanding and knowledge.. And another thing that bothered me was, so many houses that had an additional floor were restricted from entering.. Overall, a day well spent

WONDERFUL is the word. Such meticulously maintained centuries old houses and artefacts from different parts of India, especially Karnataka. One can enter most houses and experience how every house differs and how people lived earlier. Every room is well lit & exhibited with authentic utensils, equipments, furniture. Some materials are around 300 to 900 years old!!! There are enthusiastic people inside who guide with every detail. Drinking water and clean toilets available. Entry fees was 300 per person. Heritage lovers must visit. It's Not just a normal museum. Avoid summer afternoon, gets very hot. But still windy.

During our Udupi visit last week, we had almost given up on going to heritage museum due to time constraints. Finally, we could make it on our way back home and I am so glad about it. It's just so architecturally beautiful. We spent 2.5 hours, and had to rush the last 3 houses as my kid was hungry. My 5 year old daughter also enjoyed it. As a mother, I wish I could take a snack in my bag. But I respect the decision of the museum authority to deposit all our bags at the entrance. People litter the beautiful places knowingly or unknowingly. It was a hot noon, I wish if there was a facility to serve some cold buttermilk in any tree shade. Also, do note that the ticketing closes at 3.30PM. Museum authority should make appropriate changes in Google so people will know it before visiting. Google just shows that it is open till 5PM.

A magical and painstakingly restoration of the traditional architecture of Karnataka. Time flew by as we paced through classic homes from different times and sections of the society, transported from their original location, from ruins to being reinstated back to full glory here. Not just the actual houses, but also the art, music and scents unique to each house add personal charm that helps transport you to that time and age! It is an inspiration to see 1 man's vision to save and display the traditional architecture of this region. And its true, all around the fast changing landscape of Udipi and Manipal, the cute vernacular structures are fast disappearing, being engulfed by malls and city style monolithic pigeon holes. So this may be the only place in the future where we will be able to witness the styles of homes of the bygone era. DO not miss this place!!

Beautiful place. Definitely a must visit. Hats off to the founder, curators and the trustees for maintaining and preserving this beautiful piece of history and culture. Very good for children and enthusiasts to see houses modelled around different cultures and centuries, the various households items used over time, the type of market places and shops, the ostentatious or simple lifestyle of different classes, and so on.

If you are ever in or around Mangalore/Udupi, you should definitely visit 'Hastha Shilpa Heritage Village' in Manipal. This place is a beautiful gallery of unique architectural marvels of Karnataka showcasing various types of antique houses. Photos don't do justice to this place, this is definitely one of the most underrated places in the region or may be the entire state!

Hasta Shilpa is the most unexpected place in all of Manipal or say Udupi. I never expected a coastal town to have the most secured cultural heritage and that too is maintained beautifully. I had the opportunity to meet with Sushant and Mr Harish(one of the original team members to establish this entire village museum). They have great real stories to tell and most unheard and positive experiences of life, we were fortunate to cross paths with them and have a deep conversation about how the entire setup was created. Culturally it covers most of habitat from different centuries and decades within, original houses were deranged and rearranged here, all of that took 20 years and are still ongoing by the trust. If you really would like to know how different religious communities used to have their households and their market areas and unique architecture and artefacts, please visit and support.

It’s a must visit museum for art lovers as the museum contains historical artifacts etc. The museum is definitely a family friendly place and the entry fee for adults is 300 and for students is 150.

This 6 acre property is right next to MIT college. Mr Shenoy has restored typical houses in the Canara area. You will not find them anywhere else. For senior citizens there is electric car facility. One needs one to two hours to complete the tour.

The place was really good and well maintained. It had light music played suitable to the monument all along. People were present to guide you all along. They were really soft spoken. Kudos for preserving and maintaining our heritage in the heritage so well...

One among the unexplored Museums of South. It's a Gem of a place for Architecture students and artists who are interested in Vernacular structures and learning about the culture and local places. If ur going here u must join in as a group and hire a guide so u get more information and can ask the person any kind off questions. The staff members are quite Amicable. If ur a student u will also get an opportunity fr expanded time of u request.I would recommend to visit this museum in real as it gives the real escense of Older elements of a structure and climatic response accordingly to their region.

Visited the place while we came for a vacation during Diwali and the museum was closed for 3 days on account of Diwali. Generally tourists visit such places during holiday seasons. Thank you for your response and Apologies for hurting your sentiments. We checked on the website and it showed as Open till 5:00 PM with a message that Diwali might affect these hours. We came all the way there and it was disappointing to see it closed. It would be good if the place is open for visitors during festive holidays as well.

They had taken so much effort in shifting the original house from far location to this place without damaging them. Got to see all old age houses and I loved it. I also liked the price.

The heritage village is beautifully created near to Manipal and the collection of houses it just awesome! We went there to see the heritage designs and architecture of the houses dated hundreds of years old and influenced by several cultures/areas of Karnataka and were Wow’ed by the experience. The entrance ticket was Rs.300 per person and a bar code scan was available to give the information on the houses on display. It is a must visit if you are into architecture and appreciate the ethnicity/charm of earlier houses design.
