Excellent experience. Magnificent structures and views all around. Locals are really not helpful and give all false information. There are a total of 34 caves among which I felt Cave 16 which is the centre one as soon as we enter and Cave 29 which is a bit far are excellent. For cave 16, If you are fit enough try to climb the hill for the top view. En route to Cave 29, you will get a waterfall and the view is really amazing. Even though this is inside, Cave 29 is huge make sure you don't miss it. It's a holiday on Tuesday(check once before you leave). It will take around 3-4 hours depending on the time you use to take pics. Overall a nice experience. Note: You won't get food inside only water so make sure you get something to eat. Since the overall duration will be more.

Absolutely fantastic, this visit here is the highlight of my stay in India so far, it's really impossible to describe. There isn't very much I can add to the hundreds of reviews already posted, here are some of the 200 photos I took on the day. If you get the chance to see the caves and the kailash temple don't hesitate, just do it, you won't be sorry.

Amazing caves. It was indeed a pleasure visiting this place. Please take the tickets online to avoid the queue. You can avail the taxi inside to visit caves 32, 22 and 27. It was amazing. The waterfall is breathtaking and you can also go below the fall. Each cave has its uniqueness. Kailash temple is an architectural marvel. The top view is amazing. Some of the Caves have multi-stories. You might need one full day to visit all the caves properly. Watch the caves closely so that you can see the mural paintings also in the ceiling and walls. Please check the day, it will be closed all Monday.

Ellora caves have Hindu, Buddhist and Jain caves. Very scenic, beautifully carved and interesting caves with wonderful history. Cave 16 esp is Kailash temple and it is largest single monolithic rock excavation. Visit to this place made me feel proud to be an Indian. We come from such rich culture. The caves are well maintained. Not the stinky ones. Get a guide if you are really interested in history of caves. We got a guide who had govt ID card. He was an Archeology student and was immensely knowledgeable. This is a must visit place if you're keen to see our history and culture.

This is one of the best ancient gallery for world. The experience over here is good. One can spend 4-5 hours easily visiting all the caves. Explorer might take more time as it is vast to know in depth. Place is kept very neat and clean. However public should not litter as there is no security guard everywhere. Entry fee is very nominal for such big place. We could see 2 waterfalls around. Must visit place. Specially Kailash temple which is centre of attraction as it consist of lot is carving beauty apart from the fact that it is impossible thing in history of carving.

Its one of the Heritage sites, mesmerizing work. Makes us think like our ancient generation had such a niche skills, and this place we well maintained and kept clean. There's a bit of problem for the parking, apart from that rest all is fine. A must visit, it would for sure take minimum of 2 hr to visit all the caves, even if you touch upon a minimum.

It is one of the largest rock-cut cave temples in world and includes Buddhist, Hindu & Jain monuments in its vast complex It has inscriptions dating back to 1400 - 1500 years This complex also features what is arguably the largest single rock excavation in the world, the Kailasha Temple. It is a large chariot-shaped construction, which though dedicated to Lord Shiva, has sculptures featuring several God's & Goddesses There are apparently more than 100 caves in the complex, though less than half of them are open for public viewing The caves open for viewing have been numbered as 1 - 12: Buddhist monuments, 13 - 29: Hindu monuments & 30 - 34: Jain monuments...

The Buddhist Monastery gave me peace and the Hindu Temples gave me strength. It is really amazing how these thousand years old structures have been preserved so well. It might take more than 4-5 hours just to visit the main caves. Also if you planning to explore more than that, hire a guide and dedicate more time. You will surely find some answers that you have been looking for.

Amazing buildings carved from the top to the mountains. This place has Hindu, Buddha and Jain temple side by side which is a living example of religious harmony existed in India. One of the caves has a 3 story building which will surprise any one who is working in the architecture field. This place has also a nice waterfall which is falling from the top of the building. A nice place to visit with family.

This place is simply amazing, we thought we can see all the caves in about 2 hrs but we were truly mistaken, it would take close to 3 and half to completely see all the caves. They also have great garden in the compound where you can sit and relax. The authorities have maintained the cave premises very well... It's a must see place... Truly recommended

Must visit this place with your family and friends. It is very important to know our culture and history. I prefer wearing shoes and caps as there is lots of walking. Washrooms are available. Almost a whole day is required to visit all the caves. Tour guides are also available there. Ample parking is also available. There are restaurants, shops for souvenirs, eatables, etc. Caves are at distance so there is a lot of walking. There are e-vehicles available at ₹30 per person who has a waiting list so it's time taking. Water bottles, drinking water taps are also available. You can carry eatables inside as well. There are small restaurants and souvenir shops outside the main entrance.

Do not miss this world heritage. It's good to have a guide along so that you don't see just the monuments. Make sure to visit the Buddha and Hindu caves. I guess that's cave number 4 and 16. Keep water bottles and light snacks with you.. It's better to be dress light and carry sunglasses too. You'll need approx 1.5 hours in case you're enthusiastic about the heritage

a reflection of the religious tolerance that existed during this period of Indian history. Of the Buddhist monastery caves, highlights include a number of shrines featuring carvings of Buddha and saints dating from the 5th to 7th centuries, as well as the stunning Carpenter's Cave, considered one of the finest in India. The famous monumental Ellora Caves were built between the 5th and 10th centuries by Buddhist, Jain, and Hindu monks, and make for an excellent excursion from Mumbai, some 300 kilometers to the west.

Super amazing place! It's a world heritage site. Cave number 16 is Marvel! You must take guide over here because to understand the intricate details, you need someone to explain. Otherwise you will just visit the place, see the stones and statues and won't understand the logic behind it. Guide will properly explain you what those monuments means. What that idol means, how they have created this monument how much stone they have removed from there? How technically difficult those things are and how they have achieved it. It's wonderful to see, understand and experience such things. Writing a short review is not enough for this monument because it's worth writing a book. There is a lots of space available for parking. Food is not available inside. There are three types of caves Hindu, Buddhist and jain. It shows that previously all those religions are no different and are interconnected to each other.

Ellora Cave is the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE site Located in Aurangabad district. A Site where you get to see some Tremendous, Beautiful and Miraculous Carvings of many Hindu, Jain and Buddhist Culture. So as I Visited this Beautiful Site in January 2021, I would like to share the precautions which were taken for Covid- Proper Temperature checks and Details of the visitors are noted, the security personnel are wearing masks and Visitors are also asked to do so. Well social distancing is not maintained but it's kind of not possible to maintain it there. For the Entry Tickets there are two options- 1) The Ticket Counters Available at the Main entrance OR, 2) You can book yourself a ticket from the website payumoney.com where you just need to fill your details and while visiting carry your ID proof. Now coming to the Caves, there are around 34 Caves in total for you to visit each having different and unique carvings and stories. Out of these 34 caves the main attraction is The Great Kailash Temple which is entirely carved in a single rock. The Temple has so many beautiful carvings each having a story of its own. After The Kailash Temple there are many Buddhists Caves where you get to see many Buddha sculptures craved with such perfection that looking at them will make you wonder how did they did it at that period of time. Visiting these Buddhist caves will give you a very soothing and calm Vibe which we generally miss in our lives today. After these Caves there are many Residential caves which also consists some Pretty carvings. Would recommend you to visit The Kailash Temple first as it is the biggest cave out of all the other and will take the most of your time as it will mesmerize you with its beauty. And yes try to get a guide if you can and if you want to know more about the History of such a great Heritage. If you want to buy some souvenir there are many people selling some small stone carved statues inside as well as outside the premises which they will try to sell you at a higher rate you just need to bargain a lot. It is a must visit Place if you are a History Lover, well even if you aren't you got to visit it and you will still Love it.

An architectural marvel where Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism co-exists in harmony, is a must visit for everyone. It’s an wonder how single rocks have been craved into such astonishingly beautiful & detailed temples, idols & structures almost a thousand years back. Though the paintings are not much visible, the sculptures are mostly intact. One must devote at least 4 hrs to visit only the main caves. One must hire an official/approved guide (not the local ones) to decipher the sculptures & then only one would appreciate their beauty. As it’s a long walk, it’s advisable to carry water bottles and wear comfortable shoes & sunglasses.

You need to buy the ticket online post Covid. And need to carry vaccination certificate and aadhar/Id proof.

Very rich carving. Kailas Temple is must see place which is carved from top to bottom - only one of it's kind in world. All the caves have different carving patterns. Mesmerized and surprised how they carved it with simple instruments centuries ago. It's so technically sound that it's yet preserved after 1200-1500 years of building. Do visit with guide to get maximum knowledge of unique carving at various places.

Absolutely loved it here. Contrary to what I had known earlier, this place is HUGE. There are 34 caves with many having A & B, plus there are caves above the waterfall next to cave 29 that no one visits, but I loved the solitude there. Look out for the Ganesh statue in orange in my pictures. If you are in good shape and want to spend a good 6 hours (not 2 or 3), Ellora is the place to visit, especially if the weather cooperates. I walked along the golf cart road till Cave 34, and then took the trail from 34 down.

No words to describe this place .. beautiful piece of architecture and it resembles our culture heritage . Every monument is beautifully carved . Just with chisel and hammer they did this . It's shocking to see such art of work is tried to destroy by invaders , even though they failed to destroy the architecture and in this hot weather also u feel like cool inside caves. Perfect place for history aspirants. I would love to visit again here. It is specially for those who can understand the importance of it, not for hooliganism. If this genre of travel doesn't excite you, then clearly avoid it for others sake. I noticed many people there shouting inside caves just to feel echo or scribbling over walls while cribbing over the long walk they had to. It clearly requires a lot of stamina to make sure to complete all the caves. Carry water bottles. and carry cash for payments.

A Marvelous Journey Through Time I recently visited Ellora Caves, and it was an awe-inspiring experience that transported me back in time. The intricate rock-cut architecture and the sheer scale of the caves left me breathless. The craftsmanship and attention to detail in each cave are remarkable. From the majestic Kailash Temple to the beautifully adorned sculptures in the other caves, every corner tells a story of India's rich cultural and artistic heritage. The site is well-maintained, and the efforts to preserve these ancient wonders are evident. The informative signage provided valuable insights into the historical significance of each cave, making the visit not only visually stunning but also educational. The place surprised me a lot and is one of the most interesting places I have visited in India. About an hour's drive from Aurangabad, along the restaurant route ...

This a great place to experience history, go with family it's great alone it's awesome.. You need to spare at least 8Hr yo explore all caves around here... Only ASI need to take care of this place no information on caves (actually every sculpture have it's story and that should be written on every sculptures) ...

Loved the experience. The caves are much cleaner than before and overall this was a very good way to get acquainted with our past.

Not enough adjectives to explain the scale and beauty of the carvings. Reach early to avoid crowds and hot sun. It takes several hours to explore 30 plus cases which consist of Buddhist, Hindu and Jain caves. Biggest highlight is the Kailash caves almost at centre of the group. It is really huge with intricately carved figures of Hindu Gods and characters from Ramayana and Mahabharata. Amazing to think that the Kailasa temple was carved out of a large hill from outside and then idols and sculptures carved on it. Generations worked on it without computer design or paper prints. Lots of planning and coordination was needed not only different workers but also generations. Tons of stone were chipped, by using chisel and hammer, one chip at a time! It will take at least 1 hour for the Kailash cave and at least two hours to explore all other caves including walk between them. One parking is at the entrance which is about centre of caves with around half each on either sides in almost a linear formation.

Beautiful place to spend a holiday. You can either opt for online tickets or can purchase the entry tickets there itself. There are total of 34 caves open for public, Cave no.1-12 represent the Buddhist religion, Cave no.13-29 represent Hindu religion, and Cave no.30-34 represent Jain religion. Every cave is unique in itself, so don't miss out on any of the caves. Make sure you carry 2 Liters of water per person, as you walk a lot you must need water, also carry quick snacks with you.

A well trip plan if you are going to Aurangabad for holiday. Ellora caves has 13 caves in itself with it's own story in every cave to understand better sculptures are created on ancient rocks. So that even 10 year old kids can have understanding on it. At entrance first you will have to purchase token for adults only and then you can move ahead. Well if you don't carry a camera or smartphone then don't worry there are photographers who will click photos of you and will provide hard & soft copy. Well for soft copy you should carry a smartphone. For each hard copy you can buy at ₹ 30/- or if you collect a bunch of photos then they can discount on it. After that you can view all the Ellora caves. As time goes ahead you can see visitors are start to increase. Well overall a good place if you are interested in Chronology !

A stunning piece of architecture. Please visit Ellora caves after visiting the Buddhist caves at Ajantha. It will give you an idea of on how architecture evolved over 900 years centuries, starting 1 BCE. While the the Kailash Temple is a mind boggling rock cut structure, d spend time at other Buddhist and Jain caves too. The walk to Sita Bath is simply amazing.

These are caves which are there from 600 AD. This is one of the largest Hindu temple. Detailed artwork can be seen here. Our art, culture and history is carved here. A must place to visit for a day. Very hot during summer. Crowded on weekends.

Wonder. Wonder. Wonder. No words to say about this place. It is one of the largest rock-cut Hindu temple cave complexes in the world, with artwork dating from the period 600–1000 CE. One must visit this place in their life time

  • 5/5 Pramod A. 11 months ago on Google
Totally worth the visit. What amazing architecture and just amazes on how people would have carved the caves. My suggestion is to first visit Ajanta Caves and then visit Ellora. Entry fee is nominal amount of 40Rs for Indians. No charges for camera. Better take a guide to explain otherwise you may not appreciate the caves. Its simply amazing to know all are carved out from single rock. If you start from cave 1,each one different. Then cave 16 is the most magnificent one of all. Good that there is a path to go up the hill and get view from top. Inside also so much to see. Carry enough water as there are no shops inside. Water and washrooms are near the entrance only. You can take buggy ride to the Buddhist and Jainism caves. 1 to 16 is Hindu.

This place should be in your bucket list if you are in Sambhajinagar. Why you love it: 1. It is one of UNESCO World Heritage Site 2. View from top of this site is breathtaking. 3. So clean environment and place 4. Views of mountains gardens are amazing. 5. Everything is carved in rocks, which makes this place amazing. Truly Marvel of Engineering and Art Note: Book you tickets online, no need to book tickets before arriving, just don’t buy from queue, because online it is cheaper by ₹5 Enjoy the view, click some pics, take memories of ancient culture, sculptures and engineering marvel of of golden times

It was a awesome experience visiting this place. The whole experience was just too good. I was taken up by the size of the structure! The entry and the upkeep of the caves is very good. We visited all the important caves. All were awesome it is own way. I would suggest you start from South and walk up. Infact of you don't want to walk, they operate a battery car, you can take it. Whether you take the battery car or not, you will need to walk up the cave. There is no escaping that. The steps are steep. Plan to spend atleast a day on this. Take enough water.

This is really really amazing Cave you can 20 rupees not back side of this Cave print. These cave's are very big and peaceful and calm and have amazing historical architecture.

  • 4/5 Abhishek S. 10 months ago on Google
Great experience here.

These 34 monasteries and temples, extending over more than 2 km, were dug side by side in the wall of a high basalt cliff, not far from Aurangabad, in Maharashtra. Ellora, with its uninterrupted sequence of monuments dating from A.D. 600 to 1000, brings the civilization of ancient India to life. Not only is the Ellora complex a unique artistic creation and a technological exploit but, with its sanctuaries devoted to Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism, it illustrates the spirit of tolerance that was characteristic of ancient India.

A new world was created within the stones. Still I'm surprised how it is possible ,that the beauty of our ancients and thier will power.. It's around 34caves,more over most of them have connectivity b/w them.

Great place for a history lover. These majestic caves were built thousand years ago. 30kms from Aurangabad. One can higher cab or auto. We reserved an auto for Rs.1000 for whole day for visiting to and fro from these caves. Main attractiion is cave no. 16 Kailash Temple. Ticket price 40rs. for Indians. There are adequate neat and clean toilets inside the premises.

Despite being a world heritage site. Found some flaws. The infant care room was closed. The washroom was free for use but the cleaner was asking for money. Overall a good place to visit. One requires an entire day to visit all caves and everything around. November,2023 Rs. 40 was its entry ticket.

  • 5/5 Richa S. 5 months ago on Google
Beautiful must do once in a lifetime place to visit. The terrain is plain and has wheel chair access everywhere. Which was really nice to see. The highlight is the Kailash temple which is monolithic structure made from top to bottom. Has beautiful carvings still preserved very well. The best time to visit is as early as possible. The caves open around 9:30 and we were there at that time. The crowd starts coming in after 11:30. You can experience the peace of the caves before that.
