A dishonestly unpopular (from what the locals say) absolutely genius project of a house, by the architect who became a true revelation to me on the trip to Chandigarh where we came for Corbusier and only heard Jeanneret worked here, but had absolutely no idea how good he was. An absolute must for all modernism enthusiasts. Available for rent as well. Peace and love fr☮️m Russia.

This museum is actually converted from a house, but not just any house, it was the first-ever house in Chandigarh, and unsurprisingly, it was of Pierre Jeanneret. He lived in this very house from 1954 to 1965, and to honor him, this place was converted into a museum on his 121st birthday. There are various aspects and artifacts in this museum that depicts the life of Pierre Jeanneret. It is located in Sector 5, near Sukhna Lake.

The first ever house built in Chandigarh was that of Pierre Jeanneret. The home of the city’s first chief architect is located in Sector 5 (no.57) – right opposite the famous Sukhna Lake. Today, this home serves as a museum and tells the story of Jeanneret’s creative genius. If you’ve ever wanted to live in a museum – then this is THE one! In this sweltering heat, the house remains cool owing to its high ceiling and stone-wall exteriors. Well, one can always take ideas for the ideal dream home from here! While working with Grade 6 students on vernacular architecture and sustainable living, we decided to visit this house-museum to soak in some inspiration. The house speaks volumes about the man Pierre Jeanneret must have been: simple, and classy. Building Chandigarh : Pierre Jeanneret lived in this house for 11 years while he and his cousin, the much renowned LeCorbusier were building the city. So to understand this house, is also in a way understanding the city’s architectural vision. The 1950’s were an exciting time for India. Laying the foundation for a modern city, Jawaharlal Nehru had once said: There comes a time, which comes but rarely, when the soul of a nation long suppressed, finds utterance. It was Nehru’s vision that laid the agenda for Chandigarh : it was to be ” a symbol of the Nation’s faith in the future”.

A decent, clean and subtle museum. A home of a designer turned into a museum. It's nice and peaceful. The staff is also nice. Most of The Times we think that There are no places to explore in Chandigarh. If you check out the website of Chandigarh Tourism you will come across A few hidden places That are unexplored . This is one of those places. This museum is so beautiful and it is made in the memory of the designer you can say who designed the city beautiful. He was the 1 who lived here. This is why they have turned the whole bungalow into the museum in his memory. You can easily check out all his creations at his home. There is also the availability of guest rooms at this museum. It is really very peaceful and a divine experience if you are staying in Chandigarh plus it is budget friendly too. No fee. For staying, Rs 1500-2500. Discounts for architects and designers are applicable.

This is a keyhole into the magical world of the belatedly famous cousin that did the groundwork and execution of his more artistic cousin's dream ... Definitely not for the celebrity oglers but art and local ethos collide well in this little gem of a museum

It's a newly opened museum. Cleanliness on point. Made a normal big house of Sector - 5, Chandigarh into a well-built museum. Appreciate the nice work done. The museum is in the ground floor. The first floor is made like a guesthouse with 3 different rooms. The charges vary for person to person depending upon their work designation that is Rs 2500, or 1000. for architects and govt officials. Clicking pictures is not allowed. Buy ticket for entry and clicking pictures. The staff guy was helpful and friendly in guiding and assisting around the area. There is a big big lawn around the museum which is home to different kinds of trees like Mango, Peaches, etc. Car parking is done on the side of the road only. There is no eatery. Just a simple museum made in the remembrance and ode to Pierre Jeanneret's design journey in Chandigarh.

A beautiful piece of architecture. Additional information : 1 you can have a night stay at the property for a very reasonable price. This excited me a lot. 2. The place is built considering sunrise and sunset location in mind.

Pierre Jeanneret was not only cousin of Le Corbusier, but was also a very good designer. His house where he lived for almost nine years, is one of the most remarkable place in Chandigarh where you can be in touch with history. Still it is unknown to many.... Even in hot summer some of the rooms are literally cool....thanks to the wonderful stone masonry architecture of the house..... There are no fees to visit the houses, and staff is friendly and good....

Thoughtfully designed exhibits in a well maintained building! This was a highlight for us and a must for the architecture and planning enthusiasts visiting Chandigarh. Took us about 30 min, but it a was very interesting 30 min! Also, the rumours that you can stay here are true! We didn’t try it but apparently it’s about 2500r per night (you can see the available rooms in the photos of my review).

I wished that the house was made to look like Jeanneret's home. Very sparsely furnished, very basic furniture... The letters and posters displayed dud give us an insight to the challenges faced by him. On the whole a worthwhile visit

    (Translated by Google) By the way, when you ask the name of the architect of Chandigarh, the name of Karubushiar comes first, but the role of Pierre Jeanneret G is also not less. On one side, he made the scheme of Karbiussiar ji practical and finalized the map of Punjab University and played a key role in the creation of its administrative and other buildings. Along with this, he also made maps of some primary schools where he took special care of light and air volume. In view of his role in his memory, on 121st birth anniversary of his, Kothi no. 57, Sector 5, where he remained from 1954 to 1965, has been given the form of a museum, in which his works are shown by photographs. has gone. This museum was inaugurated on March 22 by Chandigarh Administration Mr. VP Singh Badnor Ji. This museum has been named Maison Pierre Jeanneret. This museum will be open from 10 am to 5 pm every morning. admission is free.

Serene place unfolding the pages of history of our beautiful city. PIERRE JEANNERET has contributed to the urban morphology of Chandigarh as deeply and widely asLe Corbusier. From 1951 to 1965 he was the anchor of the creation and development of Chandigarh with his legacy continuing to impact the city till date through the young architects he trained with extreme patience and devotion. He stayed on in Chandigarh as the Chief Architect of Chandigarh from 1955-65 and, the Town Planning Advisor to the Government of Punjab during the critical period when the city was still largely under construction but the other members of the The Capital project team had left. He successfully bore the herculean responsibility of coordinating and managing the completion of works of Corbusier most notably the Capitol complex, whose basic drawings came from Paris while Jeanneret worked out an astounding amount of building details and oversaw the daily construction work. As a prolific designer, he evolved his own vocabulary for the majority of government housing stock, several civic buildings, schools, hostels, and university buildings and some private residences. Jeanneret's furniture was a true manifestation of the spirit of Modern Architecture - uniquely made out of indigenous materials and techniques.

This was originally the residential building of Pierre Jeanneret, which has now been converted into a museum. Within the museum, you can see many of his original work in the developing of Chandigarh as well as the brilliant architecture of his own house. When walking through the house you are able to feel the passive cooling and wind hit you inside the house, outlining brilliant engineering design, a delight from all angles and beauty from both the inside and outside. Another wonderful aspect of his house was the thought behind the construction cost, often using less materials for the same effect which was demonstrated in amazing ways. Unfortunately taking pictures came at an additional fee, which in hindsight is something anyone visiting this museum should pay and I truly regret not paying the additional fee for pictures of this architectural masterpiece.

Pierre Jeanneret designed a home for himself located in Sector 5, maintaining close proximity while working a one of the leading architects in Chandigarh alongside Le Corbusier. The building has since been maintained and converted into a museum spanning 2 of 3 stories, with the third being used as accommodation. There are strong passive elements in the design and choice of materials, prioritising airflow and harvesting natural light whist deterring direct sunlight. The masterful technicality is juxtaposed with playful, experimental forms and colour creating a tactile and visually interesting experience that I would highly recommend. The content of the museum is unfortunately overshadowed by the beauty of the structure. Images and information were scattered throughout the first floor and easily overlooked as there wasn't much structure to the displays. There was an over lack of uniformity to the museum as it was initially unclear to us where the museum started and finished. When ascending to higher floors, we were abruptly stopped from entering the third floor due to it being used as accommodation, this information that would have been useful before entering.

Marvellous architecture, this property was constructed by Swiss Architect Pierre Jeanneret,it’s got a lot of open spaces, perfectly manicured lawns. It was on my wish list since long,I took out some time on a recent Chandigarh visit,it’s a must visit for architects as well. The building stands strong,it has got windows overlooking the lawns,a number of trees adorn this beautiful property which is just a stone’s throw from the famous Sukhna LakeThey have a neat and clean kitchen as well,Pierre Jeanerret emphasised and dwelled upon use of local resources such as bamboo, stone which were used in the construction of this property. An old boat which once sailed in the Sukhna Lake is also present as a souvenir. They have rooms as well,in case someone would want to stay in the property which are available at Rs 2500 per night.Lots of tourists from France,Switzerland,USA visit this property. Recommendations: (a) The care takers were not versed with the architecture and failed to impress me. (b) Bottles of water could be kept for tourists. (c) There was a strange musty smell in the rooms, might have been due to the lackadaisical attitude of the caretakers. (d) Outdoor seating could be introduced to make the visit memorable for guests. (e) A souvenir shop selling some memorabilia or souvenirs could be introduced as well. (f) Neem, jamun trees could also be planted. (g) A fountain could be installed to add to the aesthetic value of this house. Overall,I would highly recommend this place on a visit to Chandigarh,I felt happy to visit here.
