Nice place to hangout with family and friends. The view is just awesome. Can see both Arabian sea and Vamanapuram river which are just opposite to each other. You can also see famous Anjengo Fort from here. Staffs are a little bit rude.

Take the coastal road for the lighthouse which even goes towards Kovalam and Airport. Sometimes in rainy season this road can be dangerous as water may come up till the road, anyway i found nothing that sort. Enjoyed the bike ride through this road and reached the light house. It's open from 3 pm-5 pm only. Minimal charges are applicable for entry and also for camera. They won't allow to do parking inside so keep that in mind to get any parking place nearby. They don't have lift, you have to climb steps for that. Once you reach up you will be mesmerized with the view. one side is the sea view and the other is the backwaters view with coconut trees all around, such a treat for the eyes. Must visit if you are traveling nearby to this spot.

The light house is located near Anjengo Fort. It is a very small light house but when we climb up we may it has lots of steps(that is it's so tall). It was built by British people. It will be very good experience if you visit here. In one side you can see river and on other side you can see the sea. In between this you can many trees that is greenery. It is a very beautiful view. The best time to go is in the evening. Good for friends and couples. If you go along with kids, even though it's good you have to be very careful. You can see overall view of Fort also.

Nice view from top of the light house Anchuthengu ("Five Coconut Palms"), formerly known as Anjengo or Anjenga, is a coastal panchayath and town in the Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala. It is situated 9km south-west of Varkala Town along Trivandrum - Varkala - Kollam coastal highway. The town contains old Portuguese-style churches, a lighthouse, a 100-year-old convent and school, tombs of Dutch and British sailors and soldiers, and the remains of the Anchuthengu Fort. Kaikara village, the birthplace of the famous Malayalam poet Kumaran Asan, is located nearby. Temples in the area are Sree Bala Subrahmanya Swami Kshethram and Parambil Sree Bhadrakali Yogeeshwara Kshethram. Anchuthengu is about 36 kilometers (22 mi) north of Thiruvananthapuram. The nearest airport is Trivandrum International Airport. Kadakkavur Railway Station is 2 kilometers (1.2 mi) away. Anjengo is located in an oxbow at the mouth of Parvathy Puthanaar canal.[2] Originally, it was an old Portuguese settlement between Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram, and near Varkala.[3] In 1694, the Queen of Attingal granted the British East India Company (EIC) the right to establish a factory and a fort at Anjengo, which became the Company's first trade settlement in Kerala. The Anjengo Fort was erected in 1694-8.Because of its location, it was an occasional port of call for East Indiamen. There they might leave or get news warning shipping of war in India or Europe. In 1744 Anjengo was the birthplace of Eliza Draper who would become a muse and correspondent of Laurence Sterne. The fort played an important role in the Anglo-Mysore Wars of the 18th century but, by the 19th century, the fort was considered an unnecessary expense. The EIC abandoned it, and the factory, in 1813. In the 19th century, the town remained known for its excellent ropes (manufactured from the local palms) and also exported pepper, homespun cotton cloth, and drugs.

Its worth to visit the lighthouse if you go through this route. The view from the top is mesmerising. You will get an entire view of the Anjuthengu Fort, Beach, Lake, Houses and greenery and it is worth to experience that. Ticket charge for Adults is 10/- per head. But they would collect extra Rs 10/- stating we are having mobile phone camera’s. Footwear’s are to be kept outside, at the entry to the lighthouse stairs. There is no lift as in Tangasseri Lighthouse. Only option is by climbing stairs. The elder people would find it difficult to climb the same. Also there is a steep ladder to be climbed at the top. The view from the top of the Lighthouse is Incredible. They state that the allowed time is 10minutes at the top of the lighthouse and you are not allowed to open any window at on your way.

Visuals from the top of the light house is priceless and very attractive with backwaters, anchuthengu fort and Arabian sea. I strongly recommend to visit here. There is no high ticket charges or something. For an adult i thinks it 15-20 rupees. Remember one thing, the view from the top is worth more than beyond your expectations. Usually everyone skips here while visiting anchengo fort and my question to them is, this precious view is located nearby the fort and it won't consumes your time.If you skip this, you are really missing something. Note that, please visit before 5pm.

Apart from the Anjengo fort, there are many important landmarks that throw light into the place’s tryst with European colonial powers in Anchuthengu. A 130-feet tall light house, which is believed to have guided the ships arriving from Britain, the ruins of one of the earliest factories set up by the British East India company, etc can be seen here as the monuments of a colonial past. You can also visit the ancient churches here in order to get a glimpse of the place’s historical relevance. The churches are built in adherence to the European architectural style. A lighthouse and a convent school which is more than 100 years old are the other attractions of the place. A nearby cemetery has tombstones evoking poignant memories of young Britons who had lost their lives trying to colonise this far off land. You can see tombstones dating back to 1704 here. There is a masonry canal built by the British at Anchuthengu and it connects the place to Kollam. They used it for transporting merchandise by boat. Though the canal still exists, it is in a state of disrepair.

Situated near to Anjengo fort. Ticket costs 10 rupees per person plus 30 for mobile camera. It looks so simple until you start climbing the steps. Last part is a vertical ladder. But the view you get on reaching there is worth the effort.

Good place to visit if you are not afraid of heights. The landscape view of the back water , beach and hanging bridge from the top is awesome. Usually not crowdy. But there are many steps till the top and we have to club a ladder to reach the top part. Overall recomendable place to visit and spend your evening. Entry charge is Rs10 with extra charge for camera.

The views from the top of this lighthouse are spectacular to say the least. With the sea on one side and the river on the other, it offers amazing views all around. For us, it was one of the best places to visit in Varkala area. Keep in mind that it's only open from 3 to 5 PM.

This is a light house located near Anjengo fort, Varkala, which was used during British invasion in India. It is temporarily closed for now, but if open one can walk inside the light house , reach the top and enjoy the view of sea from the top. It was painted with black and white horizontal bands. If you view this lighthouse from Anjenga fort, it will be slightly slanting. You can observe this if you climb up the stairs in the fort.

The light house provides great view of the sea and also the also superb view of the village. The inside staircase view for. Up to down for the photographer is good and timing is for 2 hours allowing each person for 15 minutes based on the crowds. The sunset view for the sea give goosebumps for such a pleasant view. The Anjenjo light house with the fort is also the excellent for tours family and friends.

It's a good light house, no entry fee however there is no lift and it can really get tough to go up. But the view you get from top is breath taking, it's like the city is equally divided between greenish coconut palms and the blueish sea on the other side. Anjengo fort looks even more beautiful from the top. Highly recommend visit.

If you’re new to Kerala, an aren’t used to slightly messy coastal regions with quite a bit of green; you should climb the lighthouse. If you’re used to all that, skip it 🙃

Due to Covid-19, visitors are not allowed and the government notice will be pasted on the gate when visited during last week of December. However google maps says it is open from 3.00 PM.

Place shows open 3-5 but actually it's closed due to COVID-19. Don't waste your time by going here. It's 14kms from varkala beach so you might take a day off from the beach and decide to go here but it's not worth it. Better to chill in your room and then hang out again in the beach in the evening.

The experience to stand on top of a lighthouse and to view the surroundings from a birds eye view is something highly exciting and beautiful. Anjengo fort is the best to get this experience. Sea on one side, lake and greenery on the other, it is a sight to behold

Superb place with the best view from the top of the lighthouse. River on a side and sea on the other side with cool breeze. Simply awesome😌😌. The main problems are no public transportation to that place and no shops or hotels near it🤕.

Top of the tower has got a breath taking view. Can just sit on the top & spend the whole day by admiring the beauty of the nature & the cool sea breeze. Unfortunately only 10mins we're allowed to visit the light house. The ticket is just Rs.10 per head ( IND citizens ) & Rs 25 per head ( Foreigners ) respectively & Rs.20 for camera, GP is also accepted.

The Anjengo Lighthouse was built in 1684 by the British. This lighthouse is 130-feet tall . From top level we'll get a view of the vast Arabian Sea and the river vamanapuram on the opposite side..Lift facility is not here, ,had to climb 250 steps.visitors are allowed inside from 3 pm to 5pm and entry fees is Rs. 10. Nice place to visit nearby varkala beach. Had to park vehicles nearby.

Great place for a ambient 360 view of anjuthengu

  • 3/5 Fab M. 1 year ago on Google
The place is good. Staff wanted to charge more for camera, despite prices mentioned on board. There are about 170 spiral stairs, which are manageable; but metal ones are slightly difficult. Getting only 5-10 minutes viewing time isn't worth the effort, esp on days when there is no queue. Also, viewing time is very restricted- 3to5pm.

The Anjengo Light House is a charming historical attraction located in the town of Anjengo, Kerala, India. As a lover of history and architecture, I was thrilled to visit this iconic landmark during my recent trip to the region. First and foremost, the location of the Anjengo Light House is awsome. Situated atop a small hill overlooking the Arabian Sea, it offers panoramic views of the coastline and the surrounding natural beauty. The picturesque setting creates a tranquil and serene ambiance, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and contemplation. The light house itself is a remarkable structure with a rich history. Built by the British East India Company in the early 19th century, it stands tall as a testament to the colonial era. The architecture is impressive, featuring a tall tower made of red bricks and white trimmings. The lighthouse has been well-preserved, allowing visitors to appreciate its historical significance. Climbing to the top of the Anjengo Light House was an exhilarating experience. As I ascended the spiral staircase, I couldn't help but marvel at the engineering prowess of the time. The view from the observation deck was absolutely stunning. The azure waters of the Arabian Sea stretched out before me, and I could see the coastline stretching into the distance. It was a memorable sight that will stay with me for a long time. One aspect that could be improved is the lack of proper information and signage. While the staff at the site were friendly, I would have appreciated more detailed information about the history and significance of the Anjengo Light House. A guided tour or audio guide could greatly enhance the visitor experience and provide a deeper understanding of the site. The Anjengo Light House is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Its idyllic location, stunning views, and historical charm make it a standout attraction in the region. With a few improvements in terms of information provision, it has the potential to become an even more enriching experience. I highly recommend visiting the Anjengo Light House and immersing yourself in its captivating ambiance and awe-inspiring vistas.

Wonderful views from the vantage point. You can enjoy Arabian sea on one side and River on other side with beautiful greenery around. Difficult to reach this point, need to have your own vehicle or rented. KSRTC buses are very rare to see in this area.

Good light house with a great view of the sea. But what I liked more was the splendid view of the village surrounding the light house. With the lake and all those greenery, it is a splendid sight. The climb is steeper that many light houses, especially the last ladder to top. In holidays, during open times, there are too many people to have a peaceful and calm time on top, it os mostly hard to find space to stand.

It's a small and neat lighthouse that gives an impressive bird's eye view from the top. They open for the public around 3 PM, and they charge a minimal fee for it. The staff were friendly, and they maintain this place clean and tidy. You can enjoy the soulful sound of the sea and mesmerizing views from the top. One should be very careful while moving into the gallery. The parapet/gallery is very narrow, and they put minimal protection for it. It may not be an ideal place for small children.
