The lake is located beside hampi road. The lake has an important role in irrigating the in and around places. The lake is seasonal and attract wide variety of birds during monsoon and spring. The place is located in Kamalapur village next to hampi.

This is must to go place if you are visiting Hampi.This lake next to the main road The view is mesmerizing and this place is so peaceful .Just sit and enjoy the breeze and view

Its a very lovely place for sunset lovers. The awesome beauty of the setting sun can make any one evening grate.

I went there in the winters. It was a chilled morning covered with fog, clicked few pictures. Nice place to stop by while going to Hampi through Kamalapur. This lake used to provide water to the bathing ponds in Hampi (told by the guides). Do stop once here.

The lake is pretty large situated on the outskirts on Hospet town some 6 kms away from the Hampi ruins. While I was there I could see that efforts are being made to make it a tourist attraction. Benches were being made on the banks of the lake for the visitors to sit. A complex was coming up nearby which I am not sure what it could be..may be a food court. It is pretty near to Kannada University and Archaeological Museum. Looks like it would be a place to visit in the years to come.

This is one of the best place to sit and relax and enjoy the view the sunset. The lake is right next to the main road hence you will not miss it. This place had lot of bench put up for you to sit and enjoy the view. There is place to park your vehicle.

Its a beautiful place to relax Till 7 it's feel very much safe not to spend late then that after 7 it's local drinking place . It doesn't seem to be safe.

Best time to spend with loveable persons in evening

Kamalapura kere is a large canal fed reservoir, built in the early years of the 15th century.  Water from this tank was used not only for irrigating fields but was also sent through a channel to the royal centre. Tank was built by Bharamappa Nayaka & was later developed by the Vijayanagar king of the Sangama dynasty, Devaraya II who named the tank after his queen Kamala Devi. The tank is spread across 476 acres & irrigates around 1500 acres Red, iron rich water of Kamalapura kere is due to the sediment contribution from the iron & manganese rich Sandur hills. Fishing in the lake is done & sold nearby.

We visited the place just after sunset and the sky was mesmerising. The water is clean and relaxing. You will also get boat rides if you come in the morning and evening.

A great sunset place in Hampi. On road there are benches for people to sit and enjoy the sunset. In the lake there are speedboating available for nominal fees. A must visit place for only Sunset. To reach here you need to have your own vehicle, or hire an auto. From here you can go straight to Tungabhadra Dam or Hosapete.

It's a huge lake but we were disappointed with the absence of birds in huge numbers. We caught up with some European Wegions, northern pin tail, spot billed ducks and lots of River turns.
