A leading premium research institute on wildlife biology, biodiversity , taxonomy, ecology, conservation in India. It is a central government operated research institute. It holds the legacy more than 100 years. It was established in 1916. Now it is one of the biggest part of Indian wildlife research. it's A 10 storey building near New Alipore petrol pump with all kind of lab facilities & technologies installed to perform varieties of research on abovesaid topics. Research carried out on different taxa of the animal world such as reptiles, mammals, birds, insects, micro-organisms etc. by some of the pioneer scientists of India working in their respective fields. It provides opportunity to young scholars for developing & acquiring knowledge, experience for their future endeavours. Annually job opportunities are advertised for this purpose.
